Ownership? 10am on a Sunday there was zero wait time and many empty tables. Coffee good, bacon beyond crispy, waffle was cold and never even melted the butter. Big turn off for me. I was in the mood for a good heartening meal and I came across Poor Richard's Cafe. This is Plano's oldest restaurant and also among the most popular. Poor Richard's is located in a strip mall on K Avenue with plenty of parking spaces. Wait times can be long but I was seated quickly. I ordered a Chicken Fried Steak special with biscuits and gravy. This restaurant serves up huge portions. The Chicken Fried Steak as huge and delicious. For someone with a huge hunger strike I would recommend the Big Tex which is a larger chicken fried steak with 3 eggs. Despite a busy day the servers were upbeat and friendly. If you are in or pass through the North Dallas area I would highly recommend this place. Keep in mind this is only a breakfast and lunch establishment. I am looking forward to a return trip soon. read more

The manager on duty was very unprofessional. I called in to say my door dash order was missing an item. The original worker who answered apologies and was more professional than the manager. She mentioned she'll get a manager to speak with me. While I was on hold, I was not muted so heard a bunch of background noise. I heard the manager in the background speaking with multiple customers on random topics and the worker telling her whom is on the phone as well as my situation. The manager said alright and kept talking to some customers. Then I heard something I thought was extremely inappropriate, "I gotta go talk to this upset angry lady on the phone"...and then call got picked up. I wasn't even angry or anything till I heard this. I couldn't help it but to say "hi this is the upset angry lady on the phone you were just referencing too". Manager said hello and then said she was telling a customer that so she can get them to stop taking. She said if she didn't they would be talking forever. She added "don't take it personal babe". I was shocked to hear that. I told her I didn't appreciate that still because it comes off very unprofessional and rude. She repeated "don't take it personal hun". It was very uncomfortable. We just continued with situation and she told me I'd have to call door dash directly. In the end, I just wanted to make a comment here that the manager needs to learn more on how to respectfully talk to customers. read more

Great as ever. The new owner is keeping everything as good as it has always been. The staff is very friendly and efficient. The food was like homemade except we did not have to cook or cleanup. So me and my wife have been coming here since we moved into the area about 1.5 years ago and we've always loved poor richards. We can't go here anymore because the staff don't wear masks anymore and since covid still has a heavy presence we both feel like the environment isn't safe. I am writing this review for my handicapped brother who lives in the neighborhood. Earlier today my brother went to Poor Richards to order a meal. Before he ever saw a menu he was asked to show his money. Granted my brother does not look like a typical Plano resident, he can't speak clearly and is in a wheelchair, but he did not deserve to be treated as he was. Furthermore, I am also sure his response to such treatment was not polite, but if many went to any restaurant or cafe and asked to prove that you have money before ordering many of us would have responded in kind. I am more than willing to have a dialogue with this place of business regarding diversity training. The bottom line is don't judge a book by its cover. read more

Had a taste for breakfast, but didn't want IHOP so my mom found this place. Saturday was pretty crowded, but the wait moved pretty quickly. The chicken friend steak was good and just the right amount of crispy. My moms pork chops were juicy. Can't forget the soft biscuits omg. I liked everything, but my eggs. We came here for Sunday breakfast. My husband ordered the smoked sausage and eggs. When the waitress brought us our food we noticed a hair attached to the sausage. We told her about it and she took it back to be fixed. When she brought it back it was the same sausage that had been scraped and the hair still attached. We definitely won't be back. Note - This review is for my visit prior to the recent allegations: I seriously don't get the hype. Great reviews on Yelp, a line out the door, apparently this place is a gold mine. Our group of 6 only waiting 3 minutes during prime time on a Saturday. We actually passed by other smaller groups because they had a big table open that they were saving for larger groups I guess. The service was a bit slow, but we eventually got our food. I had the Texas breakfast which for $8.49 was quite a deal. The chicken fried steak was a large portion and wasn't bad, but was nothing to write home about. The bread was plain and came pre-buttered. The ambiance is on par with your local IHOP and there was a short line to pay. It is a convenient location and parking was fairly easy in this large strip mall. read more

Come for the food stay for the experience. I grew up in a rural community and this cafe is reminiscent of such times. The cafe is clean, folksy, comfortable and a nice change of pace from the brunch spots throughout Dallas. If you're looking for an Americana type experience I'd recommend. One con is the waitress was a bit flighty and kept chatting up the regulars - so requests were forgotten. I've been coming here for a few years and it is consistently on point. Excellent food, insane portion sizes. I usually get the Eggs Benedict or chicken and waffles, both are more than enough food and always amazing. My boyfriend likes the chicken fried steak, which is huge and delicious. The service is great. Even when it is packed, the food comes out fast and I never have an empty coffee cup. Everyone is friendly, and a lot of the wait staff have been there for years. The customers can be a bit slow and elderly. Just today, I had a man probably in his 60's lean in my direction from about 4-5' away and fart LOUDLY. I did not order farticles with my eggs Benedict, sir. But clearly, this isn't the restaurant's fault. When my co-worker wanted to have breakfast here, I was happy to try a new restaurant. Located in a lower-end strip mall, I didn't have high expectations. Inside, the restaurant is clean and well decorated... and busy. (That's a good sign!) the menu was well organized with many different items. The waitress took our order using a tablet. The food came out so quickly I thought they had food for the wrong table. Nope! It's really fast. Verbal requests, however, weren't as well handled. I asked for salsa and it didn't arrive with the meal. I asked the server for some and she told me it was 75¢ extra because it was "homemade". When I received it, it tasted like off-the-shelf Pace picante, which isn't bad, but maybe they can save some time and buy some Pace. My co-worker asked for a small orange juice (another verbal request) and it was forgotten too. If it ain't in the tablet computer, it's probably not gonna get delivered. Overall, the food was very good, the service was fast and friendly, and I will be back sometime soon. read more

Another place visited based on Yelp reviews. Their website boasts of long lines and fast seating. Both were spot on. When we arrived this Saturday morning the line was doubled over inside and down the sidewalk outside. Had we not read the quick seating even at the busiest times, there is no way we would have waited. True enough, 17 minutes later we were being seated. I was Hungry Like the Wolf so I ordered the Big Tex. And it is. The chicken fried steak was the size of the plate. Three eggs cooked to order, home style potatoes and a pancake. The first bite of the chi-fry was awesome. About half way thru it seemed bland. I wasn't sure if it was really bland or if I was getting used to the flavor after so much of it. Turtle summed it up perfectly when she pointed out the gravy needed sausage. That was the bland part. The potatoes were ok. Some were nice and crispy, others were a little undercooked. Flavor was good though. Either the pancake, syrup, or both had a pecan flavor to it. Nice taste. Service was great. Never had to ask and considering how busy, food came out in good time. I would go back, but only if I was in Plano for something else. read more

Another Saturday, another breakfast joint. Today it was Poor Richards, table of four. The fourth star in this review is for the business model. You get in line to score a table instead of signing in with a hostess and waiting to be called. This was efficient, and the line moved very fast. On a Saturday at 10am, when EVERYONE wants to go out for breakfast, it worked well. The line was well out of the door when we arrived but we only had a 17-minute wait. During our visit, the staff worked as a team to ensure that we were properly fed and watered. Someone made sure our drinks were always topped off, and if we needed anything (we didn't), we wouldn't have to chase down a server because one was always checking on us. I ordered my usual pork chop, eggs, biscuits, and grits, and Bear had his usual chicken fried steak. The kids had French toast and steak and eggs...their usuals. Everyone was satisfied with the food but not blown away. My pork chops were a little tough and lukewarm at best, for example. Honestly, if the service had been merely as adequate as the food, this review would have been in danger of receiving just 3 stars. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back, but next time I'm meeting the kids in Plano for brunch, I'd consider returning to Poor Richards. read more

Highly disappointed in this place. I wanted to give this place a shot due to the reviews and food looked tasty. I ordered about an hour ago through Uber eats super excited about the chicken and dumplings special. When it arrived and I opened the to go box it was the worst chicken and dumplings I've seen and had. There was large blobs of un-shredded chicken just piled on top of some flat dumplings with a watery sauce. No vegetables, no thickness to it just a mess. After taking a friend to the airport extra early this morning, I decided to treat myself to breakfast at Poor Richards as it is on my way to my job. I've eaten there numerous times; I lived about 2 blocks away for 10 years. I arrived shortly before 7:00. Walked in. Picked up a menu. Asked a dark-haired server if I should seat myself to which she replied, "Sit where you like." I did. In a booth. Looked at the menu and made my choice. Figured she'd be by to see if I wanted coffee or water. She didn't. I wanted both. After a few, two men - obviously regulars came in and joined two others already there. She greeted them and went off to fetch coffee etc. Returned to their table. Expecting her to swing by mine when she was done, I was shocked when she returned to the kitchen, where she stayed. All the while, two other workers were puttering around, filling sugar dispensers or whatever. They paid no attention to me. After about 10 minutes I rose, put on my jacket and walked to the cashier telling her that I supposed that in order to be served, one had to be a regular good-old boy. And I left. I later recalled that on my last visit, I experienced difficulty being served. So, this was my last ever visit there. And I shall tell everyone who will listen. Unfortunately, I have to give one star to post the review where the joint deserves zero as they provided me nothing. read more
