Had some friends in town and they wanted to try Popover. We began with a jug of water they gave to us while had large chunks of food in it so we had to request new glasses and water. Immediately following, we ordered our coffees. The hot coffee came out in a clear mug with a piece of spinach draped over the side dipping into the coffee. We requested a new coffee. After that our food took some time to come out, no complaints on the food but hard to stomach any item after having various chunks of dirty food spread throughout our drinks. . I can only speak for the drinks! I ordered the maple cinnamon matcha but I was given a regular maple cinnamon latte with espresso. Not a huge deal, I could tell the guy was new. The latte was really good! My husband ordered the lightning charger and we were both PLEASANTLY surprised. The next day I went back and ordered the matcha maple cinnamon and received the right drink! Let me start by saying the Pop Over Eatery in Simsbury CT is excellent! Clean, friendly staff, good food, and manager was awesome to just say hi to. The Mysric Pop Over is an absolute dump! The place is just gross. There was hair attached to the wall that our table was up against. Dried ketchup all over the bottle, napkins on the floor, and the place was just plain dirty. Staff looked high AF and couldn't care less. Asked the server if she had a cloth and cleaner so WE (not them). could clean our table. She acted annoyed and muttered some stuff to a coworker after. Won't ever be back here. Advice... run it like the Simsbury location. read more

Cute place! I love the concept as popovers are one of the world's most perfect foods. The process to be seated was quick and efficient. The service was prompt but sort of forgetful. We asked a couple times for water refills and never got them. I asked for salad instead of chips with my sandwich and got chips. Asked for a to go box but had to go up and retrieve it myself. Food was very good but I will say the stuffed popovers were more of a hit than the sandwich. I had a turkey club which was supposed to have mayo but there was none on there. The turkey was REAL turkey and very moist and yummy. The popover was the star of the show in all the dishes. Also the salted coconut latte was amazing. I found this place on my "Find Me Gluten Free" app. My family was excited to hear they serve gf waffles and fried chicken. Unfortunately, the waffles were overcooked and therefore very crunchy. The non gf guests in our party ordered the breakfast bowl and were disappointed to find that it was basically a bowl of potatoes for $17. There were definitely some positives...the ambience is bright and fun. Our waitress was very attentive. The maple latte was fantastic. Ever since I heard that Simsbury's Pop Over Eatery would be opening another location in Mystic, I knew I had to pop over to check it out! Well today was that day. Their brand new location has only been open for less than three months. The outside windows are covered in adorable red hearts, in honor of Valentine's Day! The inside is pretty small, but it is very comfortable, clean and inviting. I went here with four others. I got the Beerbutter latte and the Chia Oat Pudding Bowl. Others in my party got the Irish Pop and the Nutella Stuffed French Toast, as well as cappuccinos and the Strawberry Blondie smoothie. They make their coffee using Giv coffee beans, so you know it's quality. The Giv coffee is smooth but rich in flavor. Needless to say my latte did not disappoint. My chia bowl was very fresh, but I wouldn't call it a bowl, it's more of a cup size. It came loaded with chia seeds, oats, granola, maple syrup, topped with fresh strawberries and coconut flakes. This was very tasty, with a variety of textures. The Irish Pop is the way to go if you have a strong appetite. This is a pretty big popover stuffed with scrambled eggs, roast corned beef, cheddar and roasted potatoes on the side. The popover its self is to die for, it's so light, airy and flaky, yum! The Nutella Stuffed French Toast is another winner. This toasted brioche bread is as soft and fluffy as a cloud, then layered with Nutella, fresh strawberries and banana slices! If you have an appetite and a sweet tooth this is the way to go! The strawberry blondie smoothie, which is made of strawberries, banana and honey was also very fresh, but a bit too sweet for my taste. On their specials menu they even had an item called The Swiftie, in honor of the Super Bowl and the lady of the year! We all had a great time at Pop Over Eatery of Mystic. Their food was delicious, and so were the coffees. I cannot wait to return here very soon! read more

She showed me the menu and I ordered from it. Notes for the manager. If someone says it's their first time, please readily state the regular things that new people don't know. Like the Wi-Fi info. I'm so glad Pop Over caught my eye before I headed over the draw bridge into Mystic yesterday. I checked out Yelp and their menu and saw they offer vegan options, so after visiting a few shops, I headed over to check it out. Pop Over just opened about a month ago and I felt welcomed by the staff in a cheerful space with bright blue walls and fun framed hints. I ordered the vegan 'egg' and 'sausage' sandwich. There was also a vegan soup option, but it was already out. My sandwich - and iced coffee - came out pretty quickly. Called the "trendy vegan sandwich," it includes an egg patty, plant-based sausage, vegan cheddar, sliced tomato, avocado, all on perfectly toasted sourdough bread. It's a great combination and, honestly, even a carnivore would enjoy this sandwich. My iced coffee was excellent too. I definitely want to get back to Mystic soon and I'm sure to head to Pop Over again to try other menu offerings. Congratulations on a great addition to Mystic's food options! read more

I'm a sucker for popovers and a restaurant that has a lot of potential. Luckily Pop Over Eatery combines both. It's clean and orderly on the inside and I can only imagine that as the staff finds its footing on timing, the overall experience will be wonderful. This seems to be the fast casual brunch experience that Mystic seems to be missing so I think the warm and welcoming staff may be have been a bit surprised by the demand during the first month. The menu is fresh, with a wide selection to satisfy a wide variety of palates. While the popovers are a bit denser than I'm accustomed to, I'm giving a four in hopes of the further success and growth this establishment has the potential to achieve as it matures in the next few months. read more

My review addresses only vegetarian and vegan options here, so if you are interested in neither, I suggest you skip my review. You might feel disoriented the first time you visit. Its décor is that of a fast food franchise, yet Pop Over has only one sister site. As at a fast food joint, you might proceed to the counter to place your order, yet this café offers full service. After you sit down and look over the menu, as a vegetarian or vegan you will feel right at home here. This new eatery clearly identifies with "V" the vegan (not just vegetarian) items on its menu. Thank you, POE, for making life easy for us finicky vegans. Do note that while the V appears on some menu items, other vegan items sometimes puzzlingly lack V. Instead, the word Vegan is either included in the descriptions or listed right in their names. For example, no V for the outstanding Vegan Power [Salad] Bowl. The salad bowls are fresh and nourishing, whose quality surpasses those served at nearby Mystic Salad Co, so the salads alone provide incentive for dining here. My first time here, my sweetheart who is vegan raved over the Vegan Mediterranean [salad] Bowl. On my second visit, I enjoyed the Vegan Power [salad] Bowl, while my omnivore friend equally enjoyed the Southwest [salad] Bowl. While the Southwest comes with cow cheese, vegans can omit that or substitute with Green Goddess Dressing. Other dishes labeled V are sauteed or fried. The Fried Brussels [sprouts] are fried as advertised, but crisp, so not dripping with oil. Usually I shun fried foods, but my fondness for the Brussels sprouts at two all-vegan café's prompted me to order it both times here. Beware its overload of salt. It totally ruined this dish my first time. On my second visit, I ordered it without any salt, and savored it. In the excellent Roasted Veggie Hash, the veggies are sauteed, not fried, and served elegantly in the iron skillet in which they were cooked. The Buffalo Cauliflower is roasted, not fried, but too sugary and spicey-hot for my tender palate. My girlfriend, however, liked it. My first time, the Sweet Potato Burger was an amorphous glop of oily mush plopped atop a spongiform bun. On my second visit, I had it as a side without the bun, and it was much improved, crisp and unified. The staff here are all friendly, accommodating, and helpful. Special thanks to Pam P., the owner, who wrote a very graceful response to the criticisms in my original review. Her benevolence inspired me to visit a second time and, for instance, to order the Brussels without salt. POE's interior is bright and clean. When crowded indoors during lunchtime, two outdoor picnic tables perched on an incline beckon hardy folks, who can eat while laughing at drivers in the long line of stalled cars stuck in their own self-inflicted traffic jam while waiting for the upraised drawbridge to lower again. We visit every time we travel to the area and have always had a good experience. This week's experiences weren't the best. It's is a very crowded /popular establishment so every seat is filled, yet it seemed pretty chaotic this week. For the number of seats, it doesn't need to seem/be/feel as chaotic as it is. The staff seems overwhelmed, maybe more training is needed so they can display confidence? It's also a bit of a slower kitchen which is OK when the meal is excellent and hot, but not so much when it's lacking. We visited on Wednesday and Friday, both late mornings with the same orders but very different experiences. On Wednesday, the food was piping hot, fresh and my Cheesy Pop was so creamy and delicious. Eggs were fluffy and perfect. We did notice at the end of the meal that there was food garbage (? not really sure what it was to be honest) stuck to the bottom of my daughter's plate. It was pink, looked like a plastic cap but also the end of a tiny head of romaine - very odd. The ice water was nice and cold. It was so busy, the owner was on the floor helping as well. Today, the water was warm/room temp. My eggs in the Cheesy Pop were dry and overcooked (the scramble was browned). Definitely not hot, but it was warm. The K Pop today was cold. Inside at the top and middle, it was room temp but the bottom (where it's baked in the pan) was cold - like from the refrigerator cold, not just room temp. Barely any maple syrup on it and there was a pool of liquid butter in the center. It was clear our meal sat a while before served. The Nutella waffle was delicious both days but plated differently. The ice tea was delicious and refreshing as always. If today had been our first visit, we wouldn't have returned but I think this experience was an anomaly based on all our previous visits over the past few years. (Also as we were arriving today, a group was leaving who had luggage with them and it really was annoying to have to wait and walk around them and their bags. Then when we were seated, another group came in with luggage, too. I'm not sure that the size of the restaurant can accommodate the amount of customers it does plus their luggage. No owner wants to turn away business but this was off putting.) read more

It's very delicious and everything we had was made fresh to order including the Irish Popover. It was one of the best breakfast meals I've had. I wanted to take a photo but I ate it immediately I just couldn't help myself. Even the corn beef was made fresh in house and was tender and delightful. They don't skimp on your portions either. I love Pop Over Eatery! The staff is friendly and the place is filled with locals. I love that I can get yummy vegan and gluten free food here. The gluten free rolls and English muffins are home made and so darn good! It's a casual, bright, inexpensive place to eat in Mystic. And there is parking too! At night they have fun events like open mike night and speed dating. For the March 23 parade pre-game they will have a band and a tent set up so people can be out side, eat, drink and watch the parade too! read more

We've enjoyed the vegan options here before, so we Popped Over for late breakfast yesterday. We were however, very disappointed this time. We both ordered the vegan version of the Loaded Breakfast Bowl (which we've had before) that promises Home Fried Potatoes , cheddar cheese, caramelized onions, chorizo, avocado, sour cream and a sunny side up egg. It's been a while, so I asked the lovely waitress a couple of questions and she told me instead of a sunny side up egg it came with 2 JUST egg patties cut up and pico de gallo instead of sour cream. Sounded great. I LOVE potatoes, but what we got (for $17 a bowl) was mostly a bowl of roasted red potatoes. Not home fries, just potatoes. There was only one JUST Egg patty (not two as the waitress described), a tablespoon of crumbled vegan chorizo, a teaspoon of vegan cheddar shreds, no caramelized onions and a tablespoon of guacamole (not actual pieces of avocado). Couldn't believe how little chorizo, cheddar & guacamole there was. Not at all what we got when we ordered this last year. I was really hungry, so attempted to eat it all, but as someone who's never left a potato behind, I couldn't manage it. I felt like I was going to be sick for hours afterwards. Couldn't believe we paid over $40 for basically a pound of potatoes and 2 Just Egg patties. Maybe the staff needs training on how to portion this dish? But until then, we won't be hurrying back anytime soon read more
