    Southerner gluten free
    Allie K.

We stopped into Popover Eatery after seeing all the great gluten free reviews on findmegf. I tried to get on the waitlist, as directed by the website, but it didn't work. There was about a fifteen minute wait when we arrived around 9 am. We opted to get takeout as the restaurant had very loud music inside and out. We ordered coffee and split the southerner. It's a waffle with cheese and bacon and chicken. The waffle was delicious. It was definitely a good call to split it, as it was plenty of food. The chicken was good but a little overcooked. A great breakfast/brunch spot, and great for gluten free.

    Drinks!

Overall, a 4 for this casual breakfast spot. Drinks: The drinks were all delicious: watermelon mint smoothie, neopolitan coffee with strawberry and chocolate, matcha mango. Brunch: The entrees were all good. I had the French toast with bacon and eggs. Others had the brioche BLT with egg, and wrap. The popover bread with honey butter was a little bland for me. Someone in our group had it loaded with Nutella and fruits. I think it pairs well with something sweet. The fruit bowl and Chiara pudding were both very fresh and good as well. Outdoor Dining: Not so great. Lots of bees and the heat/sun was getting to us. Wish the table had an umbrella option.

Went to Pop Over Eatery for breakfast on a weekday. It's a cute spot, with a counter for people ordering takeout, as well as many tables for dining in. Our waitress was knowledgeable about the menu, and friendly. She took our orders, and our food came out pretty quickly. We ordered the corned beef hash plate, the Shoreline Feast, and the Kpop. Shoreline feast was a standard breakfast plate of eggs, bacon, sausage, and home fries. I did like that croissant was one of their options for toast. The corned beef hash platter had the same eggs, home fries, and toast, but included an excellent corned beef hash that actually had fibers from the corned beef brisket. Unfortunately, they do not have cold brewed coffee, but they do make a decent breakfast.

Got to try out a sample of their new summer supper club menus and what an experience it was! The overall meal was laid back---paper plates and plastic cups, but the experience was elevated. Food was served tasting menu styled in the form of 6 unique courses that all were delicious. Service was efficient and kept the meal moving at a good pace unlike other tasting menus I've done that dragged on. The meal included alcohol like canned cocktails or wine, but I also got to try their take on the coral dot cake latte too and it was very good! It was a nice experience to get to hear about the restaurant which is known for brunch and adding this summer supper club, to meet the chefs (one was graduating high school the next day and off to JWU in the fall!) and to hear the owners vision for this already amazing spot. What a wonderful experience! I'll be back for brunch and for another summer supper club!

Enjoyed our breakfast at Pop Over Cafe. We got there just before the rush and were seated right away. The cafe is really cute and well staffed. My husband tried their French Toast which he liked but wasn't anything special. I had the popover with corned beef hash and scrambled eggs. I enjoyed it a lot. We also shared a K-pop which was a popover with butter and honey. I also had a banana chai which had very little banana flavor. I like the concept of the cafe specializing in popovers. It's not something you see often. I'd eat there again if I was in the area.

a beautiful brunch spot and dinner supper club in mystic! i recently attended their newly launched supper club where you get 6-7 courses and unlimited wine/beer! It was peak strawberry season so we enjoyed strawberry rhubarb toast, salad, black rice arancini, cod, strawberry shortcake and more! all the food was fresh and well prepared and the owner, Pam, is such a sweet heart! for $65 a person you enjoy an amazing plated, multi course meal in Mystic!

This is exactly the kind of breakfast and lunch spot that keeps you coming back! Delicious food and super friendly staff. Their popovers are the star: light, airy, perfectly golden, with that crisp exterior and soft, buttery center. The stuffed steak and cheese popover is a must-order and packed with flavor in every bite. The house-made corned beef hash is delicious and clearly made with care. I also loved the loaded breakfast bowl complete with crispy potatoes topped with an egg, onions and peppers, melted cheese, guacamole, and sour cream.

I love this place so much. Perfect food, excellent service, bright pleasant atmosphere, private parking lot, something for everyone including vegan options, what more could a person want? They were so good with my kids and their bathroom was clean too. Perfect experience here. Strong recommendation from me!

Stopped here after a run to re-fuel. Did not have breakfast but appreciated that it has a parking lot (a plus in Mystic) and is a bit removed from the downtown Mystic area. Grabbed an iced americano and love that they use local Giv coffee. Also picked up a Morning Glory muffin which paired perfectly with it. Loved this muffin in their Simsbury location and was glad to see it in Mystic.

This was a very cute place in the area. Highly recommend if you're looking for a brunch spot. Food was good and service was friendly.

The pop over with the honey butter was delicious My hot honey iced latte was also delicious though I didn't taste too much spice and it was a little too sweet, but not overly so (for reference I typically just get an unflavored unsweetened latte). My pop over was good, but felt a little too savory. I wish I had ordered the pop over on the side rather than as the container for the veggie scrambled egg dish. Also, we ordered a specialty smoothie to support pride month, which was delicious as well. Our server was attentive and engaging. We loved our little table by the window. The atmosphere was bustling on a Saturday morning and I can see why. We had eaten at several hotel properties earlier this week at no cost (and could have had our breakfast included at the hotel today) but chose to make the trek this morning somewhere new and it was well worth the $50 breakfast for two.

Small and charming breakfast/lunch spot in Mystic! I had high hopes for trying the "pop overs" since I've never had one before. I tried the veggie popover and it was just okay (it looks exactly how it tastes, nothing bad by any means but also didn't blow my socks off!). I would definitely come back and try something else on the menu! The home fries were delicious and the blood orange aperol spritz was a hit!

What a find. Was in the area on Mother's Day looking for bite to eat. Lucky find, I couldn't believe it wasn't crowded. Staff super friendly and helpful. Place is nice has good amount of tables. Plenty parking. Busy area. Food was Amazing. Had nice variety of drinks, menu was interesting. Couldn't believe how good it was I ate mine and stared at my plate wanting more. Love finding different unique places. Definitely worth the try, we will def drive all the way back to this spot to have again. Thanks

I am absolutely obsessed with everything here. I made reservations for 5:45 pm on a Monday night…read more We actually came a little before 5:15 pm, because I was absolutely starving, and they were so kind/accommodating. They seated us right away! I love the vibes of the place, it's beautiful and inviting, but not pretentious. Our waitress was the best. She knew it was our anniversary and gave us a little bubbly to toast to. We also made it for happy hour (5 pm - 6 pm on weekdays, and 5 pm - 6 pm on weekends only at the bar)! All the small plates on the left side of the menu were half off! We immediately ordered drinks (the $10 happy hour cocktail - a blackberry bourbon smash for my husband, and a mocktail for me). We then ordered the shishito peppers, 2 of the pickled beet deviled eggs, and the roasted oysters with chili oil. They came out super fast, and it was delicious. The shishitos had that great char flavor along with a great dipping sauce. You can never go wrong with deviled eggs. Then we decided to order the fried oysters and the bread with corn butter. The fried oysters were the star of the small plates. Cooked so well. Freshly fried, you bite into it and it was juicy and delicious on the inside. Just so good. The bread and butter? Ugh, my dream butter and bread. Just so delicious. The butter was slightly sweet from the corn and had flakes of sea salt on tip, making it the perfect sweet and salty combo. We also got the salad (local produce!), and our waitress knew we were sharing ao she had the kitchen put it on 2 plates. Such a great touch. The salad was fantastic. After eating lobster rolls for a day, this was a much needed salad. It was refreshing, bright, and light! For our main entrees, we got the seared local squid and the strip steak. It was INCREDIBLE. Everything had so much flavor. The squid was cooked well, wasnt chewy. Just delicious. The crispy rice was the BEST THING I HAVE EVER EATEN. I wish we could order bowls of it. My husband finished it, couldn't get enough of it. The steak was fantastic as well. The potato with the bearnise sauce was so dreamy. The little onions on the steak, all the little touches were so well done. We knew we had to get dessert. We got a scoop of the black raspberry ice cream, a scoop of corn and blueberry swirl ice cream, and the lavender honey panna cotta. Guys. You 100% must get dessert. The corn blueberry ice cream was unreal. I dont know how you get all that flavor into ice cream. They dont skimp on the honey on the panna cotta. And it went so well with the more mild panna cotta. The black raspberry was a little icy because they froze whole blackberries in it, but at least you know they were trying to make sure you got blackberries in there. With happy hour, the bill wasn't too bad. This was hands down our favorite meal of our week long road trip. I can't wait to come back. I would 100% make a detour to eat here. Parking is pretty difficult around here. I would probably just Uber if I was coming here on a weekend. I need to come here for breakfast at some point.

The restaurant, helmed by James Beard-winning chef David Standridge, topped several Best of CT lists and, while staying in Mystic, we grabbed a dinner reservation. (Reservations are a must unless you come here early enough to luck out at the bar. When we got there at around 5, the couple in front of us was told that the next available slot was at 9!). My favorite of what we ordered: the bucatini. All of their pastas come in either an appetizer or an entree portion. Now that I'm reading their online menu description online, I think they switched it up based on seasonal availability of ingredients. Ours was a mushroom cream based-sauced and it was heavenly - thick and luscious without being too one-note or overwhelming. The pasta itself was also cooked just slightly al dente, which is my preference. I went with the skirt steak. This was a highly out of character moment for me, as I almost always opt for the seafood option over the steak, particularly at a restaurant known for its seafood, but hear me out. My favorite part of a steakhouse is always the sides. The sides that came with the skirt steak included shishito peppers, a beautifully "feuille" style of potatoes (think the crepe layer cakes, only in deep fried potato form), and a seacoast mushroom (with the most beautiful precise knife cuts). Truly a feast for all of the senses. Also tried my friend's squid but I preferred the skirt steak. The crispy rice was good but extremely greasy. We were too full for dessert in the moment and then ended up getting ice cream from the place over the drawbridge.

So that means everyone loves Nana's. Which means that, on a very rainy weekend early afternoon, we ended up waiting quite a long time to order and then to get our food but ... I suppose it was worth it (this is high praise coming from someone who almost never believes waiting in a long line is actually worth it). My friend and I split the spicy Caesar kale salad as a starter. I cracked up when I saw "massaged kale" as one of the ingredients. But all jokes aside, this was one of the best kale salads with abundant dressing and, in lieu of croutons, breadcrumbs and cashew parmesan. It tasted pretty indulgent and rich but you can certainly fool yourself into thinking it's actually healthy. I got the tomato sandwich plus bacon (so a BLT without the L) and it was pretty good, though I do wish they cut the bread a little thinner so I could pick it up and eat it as a sandwich. As it were, I just used my knife and fork - certainly more civilized. The pizza was also not bad, though I wish there were some more of the toppings - heard it's leagues better than Mystic Pizza. There are a few tables inside but be prepared to wait. When it was peak rush hour, there were two lines inside, one for the bathroom and one to place an order. Even though they were so slammed, the staff couldn't be friendlier. Our waitress in particular came by often to see how we were doing. Parking lot also filled up. Fairly busy Sunday afternoon but we were quickly seated at the raw bar with a great view of the kitchen, which BTW is a well oiled machined and fun to watch, not quite as crazy as the Bear, but impressive. Tuna tartar to start followed by some delicious cherrystones then we split the Mussels in coconut milk with lemon grass and cilantro and some amazing sour dough bread for dipping. 10/10!!!

Goodness this used to be our favorite place for happy hour but today we were grossly embarrassed…read more This was the first time my husband and I brought guests to the Oyster Club and naturally, it was a total shite show. We were panicked, trying to squeeze a party of 6 in at happy hour can be impossible here... or at least it used to be. I was pleasantly surprised when they were able to seat us at 3:50 pm on Friday. Thought we had won the lottery. Things took a turn quickly. A waitress we had never seen before quickly parroted the beers on tap. My husband, who is hard of hearing, asked her to repeat the list, to which she replied "I just listed them". Woof. After that awkward encounter she eventually returned to take our food orders. As we waited for the food, dust fell from the ceiling. My dad, slowly getting more and more worked up compared it to the scenes from Stranger Things in the Upside Down. We all turned our heads and to our horror saw the intake vent for the AC... caked in dust. Dust was literally "snowing" down on us. My father, who I've never seen act displeased with a beer in front of him, brought it to the attention of the nearest server. Multiple employees, all standing there swatting at the flurries as they fell, referred to them as "lint" or "just a few dust bunnies". One waitress even said, "weird because I saw someone cleaning it last week". An hour later, 2 of 3 soups had been delivered, 1 of 2 orders of mussels had arrived, and no smash burgers had made it to the table. We asked for our order to be cancelled and the manager kindly comped 2 of the things we ordered. Two stars because of her. Long story short we will be taking a hiatus and inspecting the vents before we decide to return.
