I've been to Pop Pie in University Heights a few times but this was my first time trying this location. I was in the area for work and decided to stop by for lunch. The service was great! The staff had a great attitude and were very welcoming. They don't have any sitting inside, but have a shared dining area with the other business in the complex. I got the steak and ale savory pie and a slice of the salted caramel apple crumble pie. Both were very tasty. I got a vegetable pot pie and creamed corn! And they were both so delicious! Crust is very buttery and flaky, and cooked to perfection! Filling was very flavorful and it hit the spot on the cold morning. I don't know how they make it, but the creamed corn was so good! I'm a big pot pie enjoyer so I was delighted when we stumbled upon this place. My friends and I got the chicken and aussie pot pies and picked up the salted apple caramel crumble and the lemon curd and mixed berry hand pie. The chicken and aussie ones were very flavorful with a perfectly flaky and buttery crust. I think the only thing is that most of the pastry must have soaked up all the juices so it was a tad bit try but it honestly didn't bother me. No notes on the apple, what I wanted for an apple pie and the lemon curd and mixed berry one was exactly what I needed with a lemony tart flavor and the sweet berries. Everything was so delicious that the next day I went back and picked up a steak and ale pie to try with a side of creamed corn and mashed potatoes & gravy. I couldn't finish it so I left it in the fridge and brought it back with me to the Bay where I stashed it in the freezer. I had it three weeks after I initially bought it and it was still fantastic! I was surprised by how incredibly tender the steak was, the meat was more tender than dishes I've had where the meat was supposed to be "fall off the bone". If you enjoy pot pies, please go here. I'm still dreaming about this place. Next time I go down, I'll make sure to order more to take back home with me to the Bay. read more

My bf and I were actually going to the ice cream place nextdoor, but, Pot Pie Co caught our eye and, LET ME TELL YOU... In my 30 long years of life, I have had many pot pies-- chicken, beef, you name it... I've had it. And, I'd consider myself a bit of a pot pie connoisseur. When I say, this was the BEST chicken and beef pot pie me and my bf have ever had, I mean it. If you haven't tried it yet-- you have to. I got the classic chicken with a side of mashed potatoes as well as a sausage roll. The "pop" pie unfortunately lacked a lot of flavor/seasoning. Specifically the pieces of chicken. They were fairly dry and unseasoned and a little over cooked. The pie crust on the other hand was phenomenal. Extremely buttery and flaky. Not sure if my pie had just been sitting for too long or they messed up the chicken but it was a solid 2.5/5 as far as flavor. I would try again to see if I had a bad batch. Also added hot sauce which made it much better. The side of mashed potatoes were really rich and tasted perfect- 5/5 no notes. Highly recommend. The sausage roll was interesting. The sausage mostly just tasted like rosemary and maybe sage? Kind of the only seasoning and only flavor you taste. The meat itself was slightly dry. I topped it with the mashed potatoes to make it not as dry and make the rosemary less over powering. Again the crust was great. I wouldn't get again but some people may like it. I originally tried Pop Pie at one of their locations in SD a few years back and while the experience was fine it certainly wasn't memorable, so I wasn't expecting anything different from trying this one but was pleasantly surprised by how good the pies I tried were. The location is in the small cute shops in Carlsbad Village square. We tried the Chicken Pot Pie, the Creamed Corn & Mashed Potatoes (which was not a menu item that was available when I visited the other location), the Guava and Cheese as well as the Lemon Curd and Blueberry dessert hand pie. The Chicken Pie was meaty and had a nice balance of veggies and gravy but if there was one minor complaint, it would be that the seasoning used had a bit too much bay leaf flavor, otherwise it was very good and the pie crust was buttery and flaky. I especially enjoyed the mashed potatoes and loved the creamed corn. It rounded out the meal very nicely. The dessert pies were equally delicious as well, with the guava and cheese being a warm dessert and the lemon and blueberry pie being a cold one. Service was quick and easy, ordering online and picking up. This is a great addition to the terrific food options in Carlsbad. Will return for sure. read more

Ok, wow. We are instant fans now. Went for the first time about 5:30 tonight and the line was slightly out the door, but the two employees working did a great job managing the volume of customers and making sure more pies were going in the oven. We tried the chicken and the beef and ale pot pies. We also got the large side of mashed potatoes and gravy and the lemon curd/berry hand pie. The flaky crust is amazing. Both savory pies were great and we loved the mashed potatoes & gravy. The lemon curd hand pie is soooooooo good! We will be back to try all the other savory and sweet pie options soon! read more
