This review is for store #4209 at 22nd and Kolb in Tucson. We have had prior poor experiences at this store to include them running out of chicken and sides and being completely forgotten at the drive through after being told to wait in the parking lot. I decided after about a year absence to give them another shot as we had a coupon deal. So we go through the drive through and order and are told they are out of cole slaw, so we order the beans/rice. When we get up to the window, we are told they are out of butter...not a big deal. So we get our chicken meal and take it home, open the box and it doesn't look right at all. A lot of the coating was missing, parts of it looked burnt. We each take a piece and the skin where the coating is missing is hard--we can't even chew through it. The beans and rice looked like something my dog barfed up and tasted even worse. So, I call the store and speak to the manager who insists the chicken can't be overcooked because it's on a timer...I offer to send her pictures. She tells me if I want a refund I have to bring the entire meal back to the store. I tell her we already threw it out but regardless, I'm not making another trip down there. We don't do a lot of fast food, but Popeyes makes a darn good spicy chicken sandwich. I had been out most of the day and the hub isn't a dinner maker, so I placed my order on Popeyes' app at 4:45 to pick it up at 5:30 at the drive through. Arrived at 5:30 and was the fourth car in line. When it was my turn at the speaker, I told the voice I was there to pick up my online order. I told him three times because he said he didn't understand. I gave up when the cars moved ahead in front of me. FIFTEEN minutes later I arrived at the window, somewhat disgruntled. I told the employee what I wanted to pick up and she told me I should have told the speaker and now pull up to the front while they prepared my order. Now I was definitely disgruntled. My order went in over an hour before and I asked why it wasn't ready. The woman had no answer and told me again to move ahead. I asked her just to put together the two sandwiches and I'd be on my way. She insisted I move up or they would call the police!! I pulled up and sat there for ten minutes or so. A kid from inside finally came out and said they weren't going to make my order and I should just leave. I argued that I had already paid for my food and he said I could get a refund through the app. Furious, I left. It's way too late to make a long story short (sorry), but when I got home I filed a form online, telling the whole thing. I received an automated response saying they'd get back to me within 48 hours. They didn't. However, the charge was removed from my Apple Pay. I haven't had a bad experience at this Popeyes until today unfortunately. I regularly do food deliveries for this store, and order ahead for myself using the Popeyes app. However, I decided to eat my order inside the restaurant this time. I requested a water cup, and whoever the manager was on shift denied me it. They then explained they couldn't give me one because they charge for them now .... Which completely goes against Popeye's policies. So a few seconds later I ask another employee how much a water cup costs, and she simply says they are free and hands me one! I asked them about the manager's statement about the price, and she stated it might have been a mistake, which it was not. The food is good, but today was the last straw. Every time we come here, we're waiting 10+ minutes for food - after we order ahead - but we eventually get the food fresh. Frustrating, but fine. If you're going to resort to eating here, and I can't stress this enough, make sure you check your bag before you pull out of the drive through!!! Even if you ask if everything is there! Because apparently the staff are so completely miserable and careless that they'll give you a dirty look and deliberately lie to your face and send you off with only half of your order you still paid full price for. This happens **every single time** we come here. This is the last time I'm coming to this location though. I've just had it. Our drinks were wrong, we were missing half our food, they didn't give us straws, and the fries they gave me were somehow cold and almost empty. I had maybe 7 fries in the bag. There's no way this just happens by accident every time. This sucks because my family and I really enjoy the food from popeyes and while being a good 15 minutes from my house it's still the closest one to me. I received my order relatively quick and even had the employee confirm my order back to me. The Popeye's on 22nd is the best location. Staff is friendly and get the food out as fast as possible. The drive thru is a little small and makes for an interesting time during the busy hours. The cashier refused to serve behind-the-counter lemonade; they were out of half the fountain drinks. Employees were ignoring the front/ people waiting to be served. Popeyes at 22nd & Kolb is going down hill, and apparently now refusing to do anything about substandard meals. I have been a fan of Popeye on 22nd and Kolb, but this last time the order was horrendous - chicken that was both overcooked and cold, as well as sides that were skimped on. Clearly someone was scraping the bin to make sure that numbers went up, and passing on food that should not have been sold. I called the restaurant and politely made my complaint and gave them the ticket number. I was assured that the meal would be replaced. Fast forward a few weeks. I went into get the replacement meal and was told that it was never recorded, and they had no intention of actually ever replacing the meal. This was done in the front of the store with customers and employees watching. When I asked for someone higher up I was told that this wasn't worth calling the manager. Because of their bad management and untrained staff I was treated like some sort of con artist angling for a freebee. This is the last time I will go to that Popeyes. I urge anyone who goes there to check your meal and see if it is substandard before you leave. Or better yet, find a different place to get fried chicken where the food is reliable and the management is interested in keeping customers. read more
