This place is like a hidden gem but it seems the neighborhood already knew. Came here by chance and noticed a few people already waiting outside to sit. So my party gets in line and we wait. The wait was not too long and the food looked so good there was no way we were going to leave. So we get sat inside. The sitting area is small but they have it set up great. Our server greeted us and was very friendly to my young daughter. Her speed of service was great. We all ordered different items to get a feel for the food and some of the biscuits and gravy to share. The food came out pretty quickly. The kitchen must be fine turned to operate that well. Everyone was cooked perfectly. We had country fried steak, 2 kinds of omelettes, eggs and bacon, and French toast. Everyone loved their meals. Now I tried the biscuits and gravy, chili omelet, bacon, pancakes and French toast. Wow just wow. I can't wait until I'm in that area again. I have been looking for a good breakfast spot and I have found it. Not many places have a good country gravy with sausage bits in it. They do here. the food was bland and i felt tricked by the pricing. one of the waiters was really nice, and the ambience is good, but i just can't wrap my head around how much i paid for the mediocre food and coffee. I asked if they could make the breakfast burrito vegetarian for me, but they charged me for a veggie omelette which was turned into a burrito...because it was wrapped with a tortilla. however, all i wanted was for them to take out the sausage and bacon, and replace it with a veggie (if they can). I overheard the host telling everyone 15 minutes though without really checking. I saw multiple people leave because of the wait. We were willing to wait and see if the food would be worth it. I'll tell you now, it's not. The service was so slow, I even got the menu before we sat down to be ready to order. Our waitress even commented "smart! Not so positive but it's important people know. We visited Pops Cafe. It was a terrible experience. Over the past few months the food has been mediocre. We've tired to be understanding but this experience is not acceptable. I ordered the ABT omelette. My wife ordered blueberry pancakes with eggs. And my son ordered Belgium waffles with fruit and a side of gravy with biscuits. This is the size of the omelette i recieved. No bigger than a jack in the box taco. Actually even smaller. Eggs are expensive you may say? Well this dish is now a whopping $20.00. Yup. They raised the prices 40% across the menu and are serving this up. A hair was found in my wife's eggs, food that wasn't ours was being brought to our table multiple times, my son's biscuits were served cold and mushy, they also didn't add the fruit to the waffle. Multiple items had to go back. When the omelette was remade the waiter sarcastically said it was made with 5 eggs for you. Yet the difference was definitely not seen. When I spoke with owner the next day all she said was I wasn't there and they should have offered you to take some items off the bill. You'd think she'd offer it then? Nope. She offered us some drinks on the next visit and was reluctant to talk about the food that we received every time i brought it up. In other words because she wasn't there she couldn't help me. The owner gave off an impression like she knows she has a mass volume of clients so it didnt bother her. The waiter just kept apologizing over and over with each mistake. Oh man, used to love this place, would come here often but just had a terrible experience this morning. We signed up on the waiting list, party of 6 and we noticed party after party kept going in even though they signed up after us. I asked the "host" to tell me realistically how much longer, he said 20 minutes. We waited 20 minutes and still nothing, then he disclosed there's only one table for 6. After a while we ended up getting seated but the owner was already upset with us because we kept asking about our table. My husband started arguing with him and they kept going back and forth, I thought this was very rude so I did ask him if he was the owner he said "yes" very sarcastically and I told him "oh I've never seen an owner argue with their customer before" and he said "well now you're seeing it" . Then he told us they wouldn't serve us and kicked us out. Overall, a restaurant owner that's going to argue with their customers is a big no for me. Well Pop's is a busy diner that was a clique favorite of older generations. They were consistent and it had a social feel at decent prices. They were diligent-but their reputation really kept them in the cool clique with those born 1940's-1970's. I love Pops! My very first time here was as a jr college freshman at Cerritos, just started driving, so distance was not an issue. Now in my 40's and the appreciation for this establishment is real! A bit later she checked on me again and even told me she'd get my check out as she knew I was in a bit of a hurry, which I totally appreciated her anticipating my needs!!!! As I was eating my food all I could hear was tons and tons of conversations and laughter, as if it was one big party, no one was on their cell phone. I stopped and looked around and every table was full and the people at the tables looked happy to be in one another's company and no one seemed to be there on their lunch break. All these customers appeared to have the day off and sincerely just enjoying a meal at Pops cafe. I recalled walking in to the restaurant and how quiet the street was and then being in Pops cafe- it was like transporting from the busyness of life into a realm of peace, joy, and love.
