This was not a great experience but what made it worst was the customer service to rectify the bartender and kitchen mess ups. The manager did not even come over to speak with us knowing we had a bad experience. From the inedible raw chicken tenders to the over cooked mushy pasta. Way over priced for a tiny piece of fish on your plate. Not worth it. All they were willing to comp was a $5 scoop of ice cream for my neice since she didnt even get to eat due to her meal being raw. It's a challenge coming from the west to find their parking entrance during road construction. I opted for a paid parking lot across their parking lot. I ordered a dozen raw oysters. I don't know what kind of oyster they have but it was delicious! The only drawback was that the bartender mistook my order as half-a-dozen! I asked for my bill and it reflected half-a-dozen. Went to celebrate my wifes birthday the service in the beginning was not good. After waiting for awhile we got a waiter . He was new his manager realized there was a issue and made sure we where taken care of. So a 1 rating went to a 5 because she and he took care of us and made sure we where satisfied. There is a young gentleman David who cleans up and makes sure your water is filled. He does a outstanding job even though he has special needs. I applaud the restaurant for hiring him . In this world where employers overlook these needs of individuals who need work. I will make this my 5 star restaurant for commitment from management. It was a beautiful day so we decided to try Port Edward (patio) again after a previously mediocre dining experience. We regretted this decision for the following reasons: 1. Baked clam appetizer was tasty, but so rubbery they could not be chewed. If you're a fan of clam flavored chewing gum, order these. 2. King crab legs, how could you go wrong? Well these were cold and dried out as if they were sitting out or reheated. 3. Tuna sashimi bowl. I asked the waitress prior to ordering this if the tuna was quality and fresh. She said it was just added to the menu and yes, they get fresh fish all the time. Raw tuna should be a pink color, but the tuna in this dish was served looking like it had been soaked in soy sauce. I've seen better looking tuna sushi rolls at Jewel. It was stringy and tough. It wasn't served with any dressing, just one slice of lemon. Uninspired. Note to the chefs, try the tuna bowl at Kyoto to see how it should be done. 4. The lobster roll. I can't be 100% sure about this but it looked like there was imitation crab as filler along with a few pieces of lobster. For $31 I expect to see some nice chunks of lobster in my lobster roll, otherwise I'd order an imitation crab and mayo roll. This place has several things that make it a good place to go: 1) Location- right next to the river with a nice patio to hang out in or go for a walk to digest the 4000 calories you just ate. 2) A never ending brunch buffet filled with everything from a omelet station to steamed crab legs and oysters Rockefeller 3) A unique "sea-faring" atmosphere with a boat right in the entrance surrounded by Koi fish However, $33 is a bit pricy for the abundance of food that is not necessarily to the highest standard. Excellent dinner tonight. We were able to sit in the windmill which is a private dining area that seats up to 4 and had some great views of the river. Awesome music seeping through our window of the windmill. Big snow crab legs which were sweet and excellent. BTW specials offered each day. Restaurant capacity was plenty . The fact that they have a lot of square footage indoors offers space with different dining areas it felt separated. Would like to see the bar area have more social distances and masks. Average food at premium prices at an awesome location on the water. The problem is they limit you to 1-1/2 hours at your table. First and foremost, I rate this 3.5. I messaged the management via yelp before going inquiring about reservations. She promptly replied back saying one was not needed.. this was impressive. I ordered peal and eat shrimp (1/2 lb) and it was chilled but not that cold.. they were good but shoulda been a bit colder. I ordered prime rib med rare and an add on 8oz tail. The tail was good as well as the sides. The prime rib was iver cooked more medium that medium rare but it was still good. Overall, I enjoyed my visit and would more than likely return. Management seems to carw hwre thats a plus in my book. I would recommend educating staff on menu items and prices and make sure steaks arw cooked as ordered. Absolutely the worst service and food we've ever received. Unfortunately I don't think it has anything to do with COVID but poor management and lack of concern about putting out a quality product and good service, which is what made it so successful. Been to this place 3 times. My first experience was very good. I always enjoy the marina style decor of this place but the last few times food was mediocre at best. I had a sample of 3 kinds of fish and my tongue and throat has felt really scratchy, itchy and tingling... and not the good kind tingly, more like the annoying kind. That really turned me off about this place. I've eaten in the cheapest of sushi restaurants and never had this kind of problem. Our first time there. We had heard good things in past years. We loved the view. Service was friendly. But the food was average and over-priced. I think this may have more to do with the quality of the locally available kitchen help and cost of labor than the actual food or restaurant. Nothing tasted like it had a chef's touch. The asparagus tasted like it was dropped in the hot coals and scooped back out: I paid extra for it but it was not edible. Love the ambience here but recently went and the server forgot my three year olds dinner. It was literally the easiest thing to make on the entire menu. Everyone else had gotten their food and was done eating by the time my daughter got her food. At this point she had already taken bites of everyone else's food since she's three and hungry and needs to eat. Best to order the prime rib rare or it might be a bit dry. My date and I came here for Valentine's Day and, according to my date, it was pretty busy. This review is only for Sunday Brunch. $35 for all you can eat and bottomless champaign. This might be the largest Sunday buffet in Chicagoland. We've been coming here since I was a child, (so there might be a slight biased/nostalgic element to my 4-star rating). Port Edwards offers lots of seafood including: crab legs, shrimp, jambalaya, crayfish étouffée, 2 soups and several other offerings. The carving station typically has turkey, and one other meat (this past week the beef had outstanding flavor). Adjacent to the carving station is usually dressing, mashed potatoes, and gravy. Another section of the buffet has typical breakfast fare including an omelette station and an eggs Benedict station. There is also a section with an enormous variety of desserts (including a chocolate fountain for dipping fruit). The service is always very attentive and constantly filling the glasses (champaign, water, etc). With such a large selection of food negative people will find food to gripe about. To that point I personally think the creme brûlée is lacking, (but I'm a bit of a creme brûlée geek). Likewise positive people will find plenty of food rave about - The eggs Benedict is eggcellent, and I love the crayfish étouffée. Overall, I recommend going here because they have something for everyone, and good service. read more

On Thursday, June 20, we had appetizers at new outside restaurant with wonderful service by Caitlin who was friendly and helpful. Also, before we sat down we enjoyed the river walk adjacent to the restaurant. After our appetizers, we went inside for dinner. We asked for a river view and our hostess found a table for us that provided all four of us with the view we asked for. Port Edward has changed in recent years. We lived in Algonquin for 12 years and dined there sometimes weekly. The food and the wait staff was fantastic. The restaurant manager retired in the past year or two and she was the first person you met when you came to the restaurant. She knew who you were and took great care of you. Now, they have several 20 somethings that don't have a clue how to treat a customer. We made a reservation for a booth in the bar and due to rain, someone was sitting at the table that was reserved for us. Did we want to wait? Ridicules. We were seated in a different section and got a seasoned wait person that we had in the past. Service was bad and food was bad. Slim chance we will dine at Port Edward in the future. read more

This has been on my bucket list for quite awhile....and it did not disappoint. I went with a girlfriend who likes to adventure out now and again. And the 40 minute drive from my house was worth it! I had something called Gift of the Sea - calamari, mussels, shrimp etc over a bed of pasta which could spoil me from trying anything else on their menu. Started off with the conch soup which was a tasty version of minestone, the bread came with a crab spread that was also very enjoyuable. Our server, Maggie, knew just when to appear and when to give us space to visit over lunch. It was obvious that she really likes her job, is good at it - and I complimented her on this when we left. My family has gone to Port Edward's for Mothers Day brunch for the last 20 years. The food and service has always been good. This year no different we booked our brunch for our family of six four weeks out. This week my wife received a call from Port Edwards explaining that they need us to pay $10 per person for a total of $60.00 To secure the reservation we made over two weeks ago? My wife explained that we have been coming for 20 years and never heard of anyone asking for money to secure a reservation? My wife then asked to speak with the manager who got on the telephone and explained that if we didn't want to pay the $60 that they would cancel our reservation with a rude tone? It saddens me to have to change a 20 year tradition but that is the direction we were forced to go. I'm guessing Port Edwards is under new management? Or maybe needs to be. read more
