Have been a regular bringing friends and family since Porta opened its doors. Not sure what changes have been made to BOH but the pies are coming out wet and sloppy. They are also seem smaller in size. The vibe and energy just seem off from BOH to front bar. Today they were out of Kane head high...my fav IPA. Ordered Margarita pie and it was so wet...had to fold it to eat it. Yes it was delicious but not up to Porta standards. The Bib salad was not crisp either, and portion was smaller. I love Porta! I've gone every time I've been to Asbury Park. The food is fantastic, the drink options are plenty, but the decor draws me in all the time. The space is amazing. We were luck to get two bar seats because the table wait was over an hour and not guaranteed. We ordered a meatball and an arugula pizza. No joke they came out less then 10 minutes within ordering them. Their process is quick. Their bartenders take effort in muddling for drinks which is s pain the ass task. The drinks here are very strong! For most that's good but for me I can't handle it. I stuck with Diet Coke tonight but my friend enjoyed his draft. So, we took the advice from a local bartender and went here. I checked the Yelp reviews quickly and was a bit skeptic but we forged on. We grabbed a seat outside in the open picnic area space. Adorned with bocce, fairy lights, and picnic tables, its got a great scene. Inside, the industrial/wood chic is super awesome. Very Brooklyn. Why two stars? The food wasn't good and pricy. We ordered two salads and two pizzas to split amongst three people. It was plenty of food, but I expected more of everything and for it all to be way better. The salads at $14 a pop were teeny. The Gail Salad with strawberries and ricotta had my eye and it was absolutely flavorless. How can that be you ask? I don't know. Someone tell me how strawberries and ricotta cheese can be flavorless. Lets chat pizza. Very thin crust, with flavorless sauce and light mozzarella is how they do. The meatball pizza was solid. These balls were spicy and filled with flavor and that was the best part of this entire meal. At $16 this pie was definitely $3-$4 over priced. The arugula pizza was completely flavorless and had barely any of that delicious mozzarella cheese. It was also very small. I LOVE pizza and I almost didn't finish (almost is the key word here). Again, $4 over priced. Is this Asbury Park or NYC. I'm confused. The scene consisted of lots of children and older tanned ladies smokin' butts. Thursday night was karaoke with a live band and anyone that knows me will know I can't stand karaoke, especially when it's light out. We bounced immediately. On a crazy busy stony Saturday afternoon this was a bustling oasis from the driving rain. Prices are so reasonable for this location. These servers work their tails off to get you what you want in an efficient hospitable manner. Hearing a thank you? Yup! Brick over pizza was delicious and charred perfectly. Where do I start?! This place was not memorable at all. From the food to the service, it was a horrible experience. Our waitress was friendly, but a ghost. We only saw her 3x. When she took our drink order, 2nd when she took our order and then when she brought us the check. Service is non-existent here so be warned. The pizza was nothing special. It's overpriced and the serving size is a bit ridic. A plain pie with Ham and cheese is roughly $15 (which equals to a personal pie.) My favorite part of this dining was the dessert. Don't waste your time on this place. It is always overcrowded and way overpriced. This is Asbury Park, not New York City. $20 for two drinks?????? If you're going to spend a ton of money on mediocre food, you could probably find a spot on the boardwalk, then at least you have a nice view. We sat at the bar since there was a 45 minute wait for a table. We weren't in a rush, just decided it would be better to have a quick seat and get our order in. We waited quite some time before a bartender even acknowledged that we were ready to order. With that said, our food did come out pretty quickly. Two star rating because the pizza was mediocre at best, the drinks were extremely overpriced as well as the food. The place is very chatty and loud and there are a bunch of kids running around outside. I had the Margherita pizza, which I would definitely not recommend. It was completely flavorless. Our table was ready as promised in 20 min. Our server came over and took a drink and appetizer order. Drinks and apps came out quick, all within the same 5 minutes. We finished our apps and our server came back over to take our dinner orders. We all ordered pizza. We waited a while before seeing her again, and when she finally came by, she asked if we would like coffee or dessert. We told her we were still waiting for our dinners. She told us she momentarily confused us with one table over and that our pizzas would be out soon. But then.... no pizza. Minutes ticked by... 20 minutes, then 30 minutes, and still... no pizza. We began to realize she either forgot to put in our order or she gave it to another table. Either way, it became increasingly frustrating as everyone around us was getting their food much quicker. Our pizzas finally came out 45 min later, burnt. They probably would have been good if they were properly cooked. I had to try to remove the black burnt up sections of my pizza. It was so disappointing. That was it. We were disappointed. Burnt pizza and air conditioning duct-work that dripped water onto us while we tried to eat burnt food after enduring far too long a wait for the food to even come out. As in, I don't need to have silverwear being tapped towards me to notion that the bus boy wants me to get up and come get it. I get it's a family laidback spot, but there are some things that follow restaurant normalcy. Like bringing silverwear to a table. This place is so talked up in the area ...maybe because its one of like four restaurants/bars in the whole boardwalk area. Anyways, after hearing a couple friends rave about how good the pizza was and that it was a cute, hip environment on the shore I had to go try it out. Upon arrival, the inside was PACKED. The hostess said it would be about a hour wait to be seated inside or to go outside to the benches and it was first come first serve there. It happened to be that one day of the summer where it was pretty cool outside, (60's) so no one wanted to sit outside. Win for me. It wasnt too bad with a jacket on. The waitress took her time getting around to all the tables outside. Maybe another waitress to the area would of helped, I swear we saw her once every 30 min or so . Not the best of service, but she was trying. For apps we had the meat and cheese plate and the octopus. The octopus was cooked nicely and it was more tender than I expected. Nice oil drizzled on top. THe meat and cheese plate was just average, it didnt come with enough bread and as we asked for a few more pieces we were charged an extra $2. . . Star downgrade for that. For main we had the porta porta and another vegetarian pizza, the name escapes me right now. The middle part of the porta porta wasnt cooked all the way.... I know some people like their pizza doughy but not me. It could of used a good 5-10 extra min in the oven but I guess with the volume of people in there they are just cranking out pizza after pizza. In the 30 seconds of ordering my drink from you last evening, you watched me turn around holding the beverage while a puppet version of Snooki frolicked across my path and knocked my entire drink in my hand all over my clothing! I know bartenders tend to be pretty bad at handling customer complaints...and the reason is that most of them aren't taught how to deal with them and often they are just expected to be able to handle these situations on our own without any training. So, my lovely friend Alyssa, the bartender who refused to replace my drink - and - proceeded to be an unprofessional, incompetent, and rude b*tch about this situation, I hope to give you some knowledge for similar scenarios in your future. Your catty like high-school cheerleader attitude provoked me to help you become a better person, not a bigger bitch...and a better bartender! 1- the entire night you did not wipe the bar surface once - nor did any staff- Nothing says unprofessional bartender (or one who simply doesn't care) more than a dirty bar! It's gross to have to lean over and feel your elbow drip in disgust 2- you simply do not handle customer complaints by rolling your eyes and ignoring them by avoiding eye contact after a customer just voiced to you that their drink was just spilled all over them...and then proceed by deciding that it would be a good idea to tell the customer's fiancé to purchase her another drink at full price. Bad idea in your favor, told him not to tip you after your attitude! So Alyssa - if a customer has a bad experience in your future Bartending nights, do your utmost to turn the situation around - try and turn it into a positive experience for them. My husband and I had a nice visit here a few weekends ago. They don't take reservations, so we put our name on the list and enjoyed a drink at the inside bar while waiting for our table in the "park". Overall, the atmosphere was great- lots of families, great band playing music and a very cool, casual vibe. Unfortunately the kitchen was backed up so we ended up waiting 90 minutes before any order of food arrived, but in the end they were tasty. We enjoyed the pizza and seafood dishes. Our last waitress was very odd in the way she approached us and in her responses. I've been here a few times for pizza, salad, pasta and drinks. The pasta portion size is very very small. The single is like an appetizer or less for one. The large is not enough to take home at all. The homemade pasta is very good. The pizza is good too depending on what you get. Porta is a destination. Porta is much more than a pizzeria. Five of us began by sharing two appetizers. The first appetizer was the formaggi e salumi. There were 3-4 different meats and maybe 3 cheeses. There was some honey. There was some sliced raw pear. There was nothing but an empty white plate in the end. The second appetizer was The Hemingway. Roasted bone marrow, fleur de sel, garlic rubbed crostini, warm cherry tomato compote with parsley gremolata. It was the first time several of my companions have tried bone marrow and I am 100% sure it will not be the last. The selfish side of me wants to go back asap to have this appetizer all to myself! Since there were five of us we ordered 4 different pizzas! 1. Mary Maria. Potatoes, rosemary, garlic, olives,caramelized onions, chile flakes, and extra virgin olive oil. The potatoes are sliced extremely thin yet their flavor was robust. This was my second favorite. 2. Winter Betty. Roasted prosciutto, braised escarole, goat cheese, garlic, thyme, and pecorino. 3. Dr. Robert. San Marzano tomatoes, broccoli rabe, Luganiga sausage, garlic, mozzarella, chile flakes, and extra virgin olive oil. 4. 14 1/2. San Marzano tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, homemade ricotta, hot sopressata, Calabrian chiles, oregano, and extra virgin olive oil. This was my favorite of the night. It was spicy in the best way possible. The heat did not overwhelm the pizza. Overall, nobody is doing pizza crust as good as Porta. They are in a league of their own. Dessert? Of course. Somehow we managed to save room. There were several gelatos: very dark chocolate, almond, acorn squash and I think coconut. JB had the Apple Crostata (huckleberry compote, ginger gelato) I did not try it but I did see another all white plate at the end. My dessert was Seared Pear with brown butter, vanilla bean custard, almonds, amaretti, and red wine-rose hip reduction. This was the best dessert I have had so far in 2013, and probably most of 2012. I have been thinking about this dessert for the past two days and would love to have it for breakfast. I came here Memorial Day weekend and had such a great time. This review is solely for the nightlife. This part of Asbury Park is really nice now. We found paid street parking. There was no cover charge. They had a dj in the back room playing dance music. By the "restaurant" area, they had hip hop music going on. So you get the best of both worlds. When we got there around 10, they still had a band performing outside. They have outdoor seating and indoor seating. I think this place is super cute, and i definitely want to come back! read more

I really enjoyed Porta in Asbury! Although you can eat inside, I ate outside. There's colorful wooden park tables with an umbrella for shade. There also happened to be live music when I was there, it was a great vibe. There was both families and older/younger trendy crowd so it's definitely open to everyone. The food was great, it was fresh and very tasty. The drinks were also great, I got a gingerly and it wasn't too strong nor too sweet, it was just right. Only thing I must add is that the pasta portions were a bit small, however the pizza was big enough to share if needed. Great foot and vibe, forget eating on the boardwalk, instead go to porta. I actually had a great experience here. Although we were told that "they could no longer guarantee seating" we were able to snag a picnic table outside. Across the street, Sugar Ray, Smash Mouth and the Gin Blossoms were playing at the Stone Pony Summer Stage. We were able to hear them clearly, which added to our great time here. Our server was friendly and prompt. We ordered an assortment of salads and pizzas to split amongst 5 girls. The portion sizes were great and the prices were affordable. The pizzas were cooked to perfection and the toppings were evenly dispersed. The dressings on the salads were flavorful without being overwhelming. The meatballs were large and great for sharing. Between 5 girls, we all had several drinks, 3 pizzas, 2 salads and 1 side and it was about $50 with tax and tip per person. After we were done eating, we had the option of enjoying 80's music in one room or fist-pumping club music in the other. Nonetheless, after an hour or so of dancing, we decided to take off b/c everyone was in their early 20's and we were the cougars of the place. I asked for some Parmesan to put on it. 2 minutes later I'm brought a little thing of Parmesan cheese, half full, and full of the food from whatever table it was at before. I am truly disgusted. Word - we've lived here for almost 10 years now and have been Porta regulars throughout. Pandemic brought us here more often. We were there the other night and talked to one of the bartenders about the place and they told us about some comments in reviews. I was amazed to find that I hadn't reviewed this place yet. So, the short is I cannot believe that I can get pizza and salads (and now pasta) this good with just a short walk. It is big - you can almost always get a table or have a short wait (except the summers, but hey, that's life). A hot Porta pizza is on the short list of best things in life. They mix up the selection reasonably frequently. The salads are really underrated. All really well thought out and very tasty. And the pasta is way better than you would imagine. Oh, forgot the appetizers. Meatballs are special. The octopus is absolutely fabulous. We travel and eat all over and haven't had much octopus better than this; at a local pizza place in Jersey! Friends of ours told us how amazing this place was and we finally went there with them for brunch today. There were 4 adults and 2 children in our party. We were not disappointed! Our waiter was friendly and helpful. I was having a hard time deciding between two dishes and he decisively recommended one of them. He was so right. I ordered the Gospel Sunday -braised lamb, fried egg, fried potato, lamb gravy and it was one of the most delicious dished I've eaten. The portions here are not big but it was very satisfying. At $14, I thought it was priced reasonably. The Bloody Marys were delicious. We did ask for a little more horseradish to spice them up a bit but I am sure we could've just ordered them spicy. We ordered the Nutella pizza as a dessert for the table. I am not a fan of Nutella in general but this was really tasty. The "crust" was light and flaky. The ricotta on it was great too but to serve a sandwich that thin should be an embarrassment for any establishment. you can cut it 4x as thick and a 2nd slice and add only .20- .30 cents cost to the sandwich. staff was obviously hustling and it was brisk business on a beautiful Friday at lunch. The meat and cheese plate is the worst I've had while dining out. It would be nice if the bread was somewhat sliced so it would be easier to pull apart when sharing with others. The meats were not the finest quality. Wish there was better quality prosciutto. The cheese portions were also not to my preference. I love brie, but this was the smallest amount on the plate. Bleu cheese is my least favorite cheese, and this was the largest block on the plate, it was like a nightmare to me. The peppers were a nice addition though. The menu overall seems somewhat limited in flavors and options. For not being your basic pizza place, they surprisingly had pretty basic options.
