Ok, so I'm mixed in this review. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's sort of like lunch room seating and loud inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] But, the food and drinks are amazing. The waitress helped my on friend switch around her food allergies with no issue. So if you don't mind lunch room seating and it soundin[[HIGHLIGHT]]g like a cafeteria then give it a try.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

You ever leave the concert early in hot pursuit of pizza and end up getting more than you bargained for? Me too! I was so happy to belly up to the Porta bar after a long day outside enjoying a concert next door at The Stone Pony. I needed pizza. I didn't want pizza, I needed it. My date and I probably could have stuck to one pizza to split but each decided to get our own in the name of...being starving? I don't know. He ordered the Scampi pizza and I ordered whatever spicy italian meat concoction was on the menu. The crust of the pizza at Porta is perfection and I loved how fresh everything tasted. We didn't opt for drinks but the menu looked solid. I would come back anytime I find myself in Asbury and appreciate how awesome the bar staff here was. Another bonus? Food came out in like 7 minutes and you can see the chefs firing off pizzas in the big wood fired oven. We had leftovers to enjoy!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Nice place, good atmosphere, friendly staff and a decent, fairly limited menu.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Had an old fashioned, shared the fresh ricotta and olives and had the octopus for myself. Everything was amazing. The ricotta was so fresh and a good portion size as was the octopus and the awesome fennel salad. A little pricey but the quality and quantity made for it. I would definitely return.

Porta is always solid. This location is huge, and when we popped in on a random Thursday night there wasn't an empty seat in the house. Love the food and also love the vibes - they just do it right. I always order the bootzin pasta which has a spicy and flavorful sausage ragu and lots of fresh olives. You can't go wrong with any pizza, and their homemade ricotta and fresh mutz are deeeelish. This was the perfect place to grab a bite and a drink before seeing a show at Asbury Lanes!

Pizza was pretty good if you like Neapolitan pizza style. Meatballs and pasta were ok. Good for a quick bite if you are headed to or from the Stone Pony.

Stopped in again on a whim. Quite a change from off-season. Still they were able to seat us with no wait thanks to having long tables with open seating. Loud, but fun atmosphere. Tried the eggplant this time and meatballs, bread and oil on the side. Eggplant resembled a lasagna with multiple layers. It was a hefty portion. Homemade meatballs were solid. Not much to say about the oil and bread, although I really think it would be nice to have it served complimentary on all the tables. Shaker cheese provided on tables was delicious! Gnocchi seemed to be the popular choice (pricey though at $30) along with quick pizzas. If I could rate 3.5, I would. Overall it was good, location is great, but food just ok.

The restaurant was located in a multi-floor home on Wesley Lake, just around the corner from the hustle and bustle of Cookman Avenue. The first floor was more of a bar and lounge, and they had a live jazz band on the evening we visited. We checked in with the hostess and were escorted up to the second floor dining room, which was a charming spot that was breezy and comfortable, yet refined. The floor also had its own bar. Our server was on top of things, but was also clearly newer to the place. Regardless, once we got settled, she took our drink orders, which had taken us some time to decide on since the menu was creative and vast. I went with A Sidecar Named Desire, which included Courvoisier VSOP, Cointreau, Chinola passionfruit liqueur, and fresh lemon juice. I adore passion fruit and had always liked sidecars as well, so I figured it was worth a try, and I loved it! It had a good balance of tart sweetness and smokiness. My friend similarly enjoyed her spicy margarita, and we both imbibed while picking on some bread and herb butter. For our meal, we decided to start by sharing the Greek Salad, which was a massive bowl of romaine topped with tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, red onions, and Kalamata olives. We left off the feta cheese, but enjoyed the seasoned dressing made of red wine vinegar, honey, salt, oregano, and olive oil. It was a fresh and flavorful mix of vegetables that was a pleasure to eat. The entree options were endless and offered something for everyone. I wound up going with the Chilean Sea Bass, which was served over sweet onions and potatoes in a tomato herb reduction. The fish was tender and perfectly cooked. It was a light and tasty dish that seemed perfect for the Spring season. After our meals we were a bit too full for dessert, but we decided to get a second round of drinks, mainly because I was dying to try their Pistachio Espresso-Tini. Wow, was that drink delicious! It blended Ketel One Vodka, Mozart White Chocolate Liqueur, natural pistachio flavor, and fresh espresso. The coffee notes were not super prevalent, but the creaminess, nuttiness was the real highlight. It was a decadent way to end a delicious meal. After we settled the bill and headed downstairs, I noticed several bowls of after-dinner mints, which were a nice touch. From the relaxed atmosphere to the interesting and expansive menu, Moonstruck was a terrific option for our Asbury dinner experience.

Our server, Michael, provided by far the worst service we've ever received. He appeared to be under the influence of something, as he spent long periods simply standing around making odd faces while our table and several others waited and waited for him to acknowledge us. We were left wondering if anyone was going to take care of us. When my husband politely asked about our meal, Michael became rude instead of apologetic or helpful. The food itself had good flavor, but it arrived cold, like it was not served right away, which was disappointing. To end the meal, we ordered a cappuccino, but it was so poorly made that it tasted like nothing but warm milk. It was completely undrinkable. What makes this especially disappointing is that I've always loved Moonstruck. It's been one of my favorite restaurants because of its excellent food and outstanding service. If this is the level of service the new owners are willing to accept, I worry about the restaurant's future. I truly hope management addresses these issues because Moonstruck has always been top notch!

Now for the humans -- we ordered the sweet chili wings and a side of the sweet potato fries. The wings also come with a side of carrots and celery along with a choice of ranch or bleu cheese. I loved the sweet chili sauce and kept redipping into it. I wish the order came with more celery and carrots. The food and beers/cider came out rather quickly. The server came by every so often to check up on us and brought napkins without us having to ask! The dessert was amazing; the combination of the ice cream and the ooey gooey-ness of the cookie was the perfect end to our beach day. We barely left any whip cream. Since we went during LDW, the vibe inside was almost opposite what it was outside. But that may carry over during other times. Only downside of this visit was the wait time to be seated...and it was not because there weren't seats available. It was a bit strange standing around while the host wasn't really doing anything :/ But everything else was great!

The space is long and narrow with some stool seating up front and more table and chair seating towards the back. The grill and kitchen are situated in the middle of the restaurant. Case in point - this restaurant has apparently been in the downtown area for several years and I had no idea. I stopped by here for lunch on Memorial Day with the Millennial Chum, and in a totally risky move, didn't make a reservation anywhere and just decided to wing it. The Millennial Chum's only requirement was that it be a place neither one of us had been to before, so after a very quick search/walk, we noticed this place and also decided we had a hankering for Italian. Done. I don't know how to describe the interior, but "yellow" and "modern" comes to mind. This isn't a stodgy white tablecloth kind of place; it's vibrant and hip, I'm sure trying to capture that classic Asbury demo. Really unique. The weather was a little meh, which worked in our favor - although there was a decent amount of foot traffic in the downtown area 70% of which were pooches, only one other table was occupied in here. We were able to sit down and were served very promptly. We were both very intrigued by one of the apps on the verbal specials menu - mango burrata, which sounded like sort of a mess, but also worth a try. Definitely more of the latter. Never would have thought to combine these two ingredients together, but it was really excellent and an interesting palate pairing. The presentation was solid as well, and this...didn't last long, although given that we both ordered entrees perhaps we should have been more responsible in that regard. Something I'd recommend for the regular menu in the future for sure. A lot of the entrees looked interesting and pretty authentic; this isn't just spaghetti and chicken parm (I'm not actually sure either was even on the menu). The one that emotionally spoke to me the most was the Pappardelle (one of my fave pastas and always pleased to see it) Al Telefono Nostro. Really hit the spot, and as you can see a really hardcore portion. The tomato cream sauce was light and flavorful, and the only nitpick I had (just a personal palate preference) was the inclusion of the sliced tomatoes. I'm sure a ton of people love those, and it basically adds a level of authenticity to the dish that a barbarian like me just can't quite appreciate. I made sure the Millennial Chum had a few tomato pieces though. Really good dish and would order it again. Honestly not sure what possessed us to even look at the dessert menu much less actually order from it, but I thought Oreo Tiramisu sounded interesting, despite the Millennial Chum's yowling that she despised tiramisu. It turns out she doesn't, because once this dish arrived she happily helped herself and decided that her opinion on tiramisu was likely based on a traumatic/misleading childhood incident. Bare minimum, this place gets solid marks for rewriting history for her in the Italian dessert department. But it WAS delicious, which was a theme of our meal. The service was top-notch; our waitress was over regularly and had a strong command of the menu (which I think deserves bonus points, given that this was not Americanized and it helped to have a metaphorical lifeguard helping us navigate some of the trickier stuff; I studied abroad in Florence over 20 years ago, but you'd never know it). Very pleasant. BIg recommend; not a ton of establishments under the radar in Asbury, but this might be one of them.
