I was born and raised in Chicago. I've lived in Minnesota for all of 30 years. I've always loved Chicago fast food. But last night at Portillo's Maple Grove which is the better of the two. We waited in line to order for thirty five minutes only to find out at the register that they were out of Italian sausage for the beef&sauage combo which is why we came. WHAT A COMPLETE JOKE!! We went to Portillo's tonight for dinner. 7:30pm, so just on the tail-end of dinner time. The line to order wasn't long, maybe 2 minutes. Ordered Big Beef with Mozz and peppers and 2 cheeseburgers, fries and o-rings and 3 choc malts. Then we waited....and waited.....and waited.... and then we waited some more. Our order number was 294, and it took about 10 minutes to get up to numbers near ours, so that wasn't too bad. Then they started calling numbers past ours. And finally when I went up to inquire about our order, they pointed to bags of food and said they were just waiting on our malts. Our food was sitting there and it took them 7 more minutes to make the malts. In all, it took over 25 minutes to fill our order. Both burgers were so cold that the cheese slice didn't melt. The burger patties were not even close to warm. The Big Beef didn't have the cheese I ordered for it. During our wait, I watched how inefficiently this restaurant was run. Huge number of people in the kitchen, but less than half were doing anything close to what you might call work. The others laughed, joked, walked around trying to look busy. It was ridiculous. I'll never go there again. There are so many better options for better food. read more

Wow. Amazing dogs. Great salads. Good prices. A mix between fast food and a sit down restaurant (order and pick up food at a counter) but everything was made to order versus sitting under heat lamps. All in all, I'm sold. read more

First time here and we will be back!! It was delicious. We got Italian beef sandwich, dipped and the Italian beef with a sausage link... super tasty and fresh:) also you need the chocolate cake shake!!! It is chocolate heaven. Service was great all of the staff were super friendly. It was clean and loud but not so loud that you could not hold a conversation with your table... Real whipped cream on the strawberry shortcake which is a big enough to share. read more

Great place for Italian Beef and chili dogs. It's a piece of Chicago that we can get locally. I've been to a few Portillo's in Chicago and this feels just like those. Even though it was my first time here I have to say that it was well worth the price. Even though everything was priced seperately I feel that this would be worth another visit or two. The italian beef sandwich was fresh and hot just the way it was supposed to be. Even though I had to wait 15-20 minutes it worth it. Overall pretty good food, Italian beef was good. I would have went 4 stars. The only reason was the wait. I understand it's new so that my get better with time. I will be going back for sure, I think with some training the staff will get much better and faster. read more

Fun place, the building is amazing, busy and hopping, more employees than I have ever seen at a restaurant. Hot A Portillos beef dog and an Italian beef sammie. The sammie had a lot of meat and was pretty good, the dog was ok. Didn't really leave me feeling overly healthy afterwards, but for others it is probably the bomb. To each their own, something different, reasonable prices, probably a great place to bring kids who like hot dogs, but for this kid, it just wasn't quite what the doctor ordered. In line with other fast-fresh locales, like Chipotle, Noodles, etc., Portillo's offers a niche menu of Chicago style fare. I enjoyed the beef and cheddar crossaint, fries, and strawberry shake. Each were of a reasonable size for a fair price. The beef and cheddar was tasty. The fries were lackluster. The shake hit the spot. It's a relatively new restaurant, so expect a long line for ordering and getting your food. Service is acceptable for this style of restaurant. read more

With all the hype I don't really get it. As someone who is good and free all they could eat was a hotdog and french fries and a milkshake. That is a naked hotdog. The chili dog looked OK and the cake looks delicious but I have no idea since I couldn't eat anything else. The wait to actually get your food is about well it's longer than going to culvers that's for sure. Let's just say I wouldn't be going back anytime soon. read more

Really good chicago dogs for being a fast food joint. They have a ton of other food as well. The burgers are really juicy as well. Although they are known for their italian beefs-I dont care much for them. The Maple Grove is a new location so expect to have longer wait times. read more

Best hot dogs and beef sandwiches in town. Every time I go it is amazing and brings me home to Chicago.

Went on a Thursday at 5:30, grabbed a table and went to order. There were 3 lanes to line up in but only 2 cashiers. People were trying to take turns but it got annoying when some people budged. Should of had 2 lanes to line up. Took about 20 minutes to order then another 15 to get the food. Was really disappointed in my Italian beef sandwich, the bread was total mush. I ordered the dry version with peppers, but they forgot to put the peppers on it, didn't want to walk up to get them so ate it plain. My sons beef cheddar croissant was the same soggy mess. The fries were good. I don't think I'll go out of my way to go there again. Just another fast food chain, but it's definitely NOT fast. read more

Love the brat and Italian sausage sandwiches. The fries are nothing to write home about. The hot dog buns are amazing, soft and fresh. Only drawback is that it's always so busy that its hard to find seating and the drive through speaker is so bad. For a treat enjoy a piece of cake...so yummy. read more

This place was crazy busy but it just opened so I'll be nice. My food was good and I'm hoping the longer they are up and running the more the little kinks will get smoothed out. They forgot some of our food and the staff was pretty rude but like I said they were very busy. Not that that should be an excuse. A few weeks later I went through the drive through, during lunch time, and that was as a smooth process! It was not very busy though.
