I had always wanted to try these but their line is INSANELY along. Thankfully the Minnesota location opened. There is a line with a bit of a wait for the food, but it's totally worth it. The toppings that are provided for the food provide an extra flavoring that's in addition to the flavor that's already in the meats. Their menu offers variety and I'm always tempted to also get dessert from them. We had Portillo's delivered tonight. We expected the hotdogs to be sweaty, but they were completed squished - placed at the bottom of the bag under several other food items - so we had to scrape off the bun to eat the hotdog/sausage. It tasted ok, though I bet in a bun it would have been better. They also missed an item we ordered, but the food delivery service credited their error. (Thank you Door Dash!) The chocolate shake was good, but the chocolate cake shake contained chucks of really dry chocolate cake. Our guess was that maybe it is the pieces that are stuck in the pan when they try to remove the cake that is on their dessert menu. Mixed feelings on if we'll ever try it again. Visited with four adults and one toddler on Sunday, August 12 around noon. We found a table indoors, placed our order at the window, and headed back to our table to wait for our number to be shouted out. The line at the ordering window was not long, and neither was the wait. Our order consisted of three Italian beef sandwiches, jumbo dog, double stuffed cheese ravioli, cheese fries, and three malts. We all enjoyed our meal. The dining area was clean and well decorated with Prohibition style pictures, memorabilia, and signs. Ok so tonight is the first time I ever tried portillos. I went to the drive thru and it wasn't too bad...there were 6 cars in front of me and my wait was less than ten minutes. I ordered the big beef sandwich with mozzarella and hot peppers. People this is NOT your average hot sub. It was nothing short of AMAZING. I have had my fair share of hot sandwiches and this one is beyond good. Not to mention this baby is huge and enough for two people...so next time I will get the regular sized one...maybe....yeah probably not. Give these guys a try! Portillo's never disappoints. I grew up on Portillo's dogs and beef so I was thrilled when they opened one in Maple Grove. The quality is consistent. Service was excellent given how packed the place was and, people, give them a break.....they just opened. The Chicago dog is one of my favorites as is the Chopped Salad and Italian Beef. Please read the menu....a Chicago dog does not have ketchup on it but has many other things. Also, if you're new to Italian beef, I would strongly suggest ordering it "dry" with juice on the side. By the time you get your sandwich the bread can be a bit soggy which could be off-putting to some people. Their burgers are also delicious and the chocolate cake is a must. Enjoy! read more

I was excited to try this place, the menu looked delicious and I'd heard great things about their Chicago locations. The experience ended up being very disappointing. This place is huge and chaotic. I was expecting it to be a "place your order, they bring it to your table" kind of situation. Stood in line about 10 minutes to place order, then stood around another 20 waiting for a small, simple amount of food (all the while being herded around by employees). I had the Chicago-style dog, cheese fries (they forgot the cheese, so I had to make my way back through the throngs to get it), and a shake. Dog wasn't very hot, flavor was just okay. Fries were standard. Cheese had no flavor at all. Shake was just okay. For just over $12 and the wait, I would have expected more. Dining companion had a burger, which looked like cafeteria food - sad, dried-out patty. Other weirdness: - There's no kid's menu, which seems odd for a place that apparently wants to be family-friendly. - I don't understand why they put the food for dine-in, in bags. Wasteful. Also what's with all the Styrofoam? - They don't have a place to refill pop. I think you can get a refill if you go back up to the counter where you pick up food, but having the person who fills orders refill your pop not only seems inefficient, but also kind of unsanitary. I've been to Portillo's in Chicago so I knew what all the buzz was about and expected a line however ordering was quick. We did have to wait awhile for our food to come up so it'd be nice if they'd bring the food to the table instead of having everyone crowd around in one spot. It'd also be nice if we could fill our own soda, it sucks when you get all ice and there isn't easy spot to get up and refill it, not sure if they even offer refills. Definitely get the cheese with your fries (there is enough in one order that you can split it with table) The chicago dog is my go to, I also enjoy the chili cheese dog and the bacon cheese burger. We decided to give Portillo's a try while making a pit stop on a road trip. As a Midwestern girl, I have always been a big fan of Italian beef, and especially Chicago dogs. I ordered the Chicago hot dog meal, and my husband ordered the Italian beef sandwich meal. I'm glad we got the regular size, because the portions, and especially the drinks, were plenty large. The food itself was just okay. My husband didn't care for his Italian beef- it was very greasy, with barely any cheese, and no flavor. His favorite part of the meal was the crinkle-cut French fries, which were very light and crispy. The fries were also my favorite part, along with the cheese dipping sauce, and the Chicago dogs were just okay. Pretty typical in taste, nothing special. The real let-down of my meal was the lemonade, which tasted sour and watered down (without ice). We also didn't get any napkins or ketchup packets in the bag, so I had to go in and grab some. Overall, it wasn't an awful meal, but it wasn't good either. For a total of $28, we excepted a lot more. read more

I went back to Portillo's after enjoying the experience and the food during their grand opening. While they have now been open for over a month, they still don't have the process figured out. We ordered our food quickly, but then it went downhill very quick. We waited for our food for 40 minutes, standing in a corral of people unsuccessfully listening for our number to be called. During that 40 minutes, there were more people then I could count that came back up to the counter to complain about: missing food, long wait times, cold food, incorrect items... Once we received our order, the food was cold as well. After speaking with a manager, he was insincere and gave a half-hearted apology. My 25 year old daughter is the one who told me about this place. Mom, I think you could eat here, she said. I i have multiple food allergies, so eating out is difficult. She had checked out the flamed grilled hamburger, and fries for me to try. I was ecstatic that their fries were in a separate fryer with a canola/ olive oil mix ( be sure to always double check on food items if you have allergies as they can change). I hadn't had fries in a long time that I could just conveniently grab on the go..so I was intrigued. When we went there, everyone was friendly and answered my questions readily. The hamburger was a good quality ground beef and cooked over their flame grill..no oil. I only had ketchip (Heinz) on it and no bun. At first, I thought. This is pricey for just a relatively plain burger, but when i got it..I learned, it was worth it. It had just enough grill char marks and juiciness to it and was really flavorful. Not like burgers on hot tops. They had coke products, which I could also have..diet coke with ice please. I was so happy. Now when I want something fast, I know I can treat myself here. This was my first time eating at Portillos and my wife and I were excited to try this place. First and foremost the parking lot is a cluster. There is no flow and feels like the lot was jammed into a space that was not designed as such. We almost got into an accident twice. The wait to order was not bad at all. It was nice they had employees in the line to help take your order. Unfortunately that is where the organization and flow ends. Once you order your food you need to wait until it is called. It took us about 45 minutes to get two burgers and fries with cheese sauce. They don't even cook the burgers they come off of a conveyor belt like pizza. Numerous other customers had missing or flat out wrong orders. Once you get your food the real frustration begins, finding a place to sit. This is by far the worst part of Portillos. Other customers scout out tables to making seating very difficult to find unless you do the same tactic. You have to practically hover over other people when they are looking like they are leaving or interrupt their meal and ask if you can have their table. Once we were seated the food was cold and we found out that we did not receive all of our order. The food overall is not bad. It's standard Americana food, so nothing worth all the hassle we experienced. Unfortunately this was our first and last time coming to Portillos. read more

The girl taking orders could barely be understood and she seemed clueless...couldn't answer basic questions about menu items. Our food was terrible. The French fries and onion rings were cold and barely full. The beef sandwiches were very dry and flavorless. The ribs were disgusting. They had no color or grill marks as it states they should...literally grey in color...and they had a funky flavor like the meat was old. Plus we waited over 20 minutes for them. Absolutely gross!!! The bread side was dry and hard, and no butter offered. We took the items back and were given a refund, but when the manager says, "That looks gross,"you know something's up. This place needs to get it together or they won't last long here. The people next to us took a bite of their burgers and spit them out, then threw them down. We have gone to the place 5 times and each time was worse then the time before. This restaurant had so much potential... the training of the entire staff needs to be redone., including and starting with the manager, Paula! Why this company thinks it is appropriate for a customer to wait 45min + to order your own meal and stand in a cattle car environment to wait for untrained teenagers to finally call your number and carry your own meal to your table... all for the delightful pleasure if spending $50+ for 4 adults. If you have a glitch in your order, forget about getting it resolved.. this staff is not at all concerned about making the paying customer happy. The standard line is.."what can I do to make it right..".?... make my car payment? Buy my groceries? Note to management..TRAINING YOUR MANAGERS TO BE PROACTIVE.
