I'm a Portillo's fan! We've come here a handful of times over the past year, and I think what puts them a step ahead of other similar spots is their service. I am a Portillo's rewards member, so pretty often, I get a coupon for a cheese sauce with a fry order or BOGO sandwich or similar. The staff is always so friendly and helpful getting the put in. I've even been there when they are bringing around free samples for folks to try new things. That's just a level of service you won't find at other fast casual chain spots that sets them apart. What I LOVE here: - Hot italian beef of course (sometimes I get as a bowl) with the hot and sweet peppers both - Cheese sauce - fries are simply a vehicle for this perfection - Shakes - cake shake is classic, but I love their others too like the peppermint seasonal one - Of course, can't go wrong with a Chicago dog. To me, the ambiance here is great too. We always end up eating in since the hot italian beef can get messy, and for this type of place, they've put a ton of effort into the decor and ambiance. It feels like you're in Chicago with history all over the walls. BTW - don't sleep on their burger, it's so good!

I really liked the polish dog with chili, cheese, and onions. The dog was grilled and had a nice snap to it. The fries were hot and seasoned well. I'd skip the onion rings; they were a disappointment (I hated the coating on them). The strawberry malt/shake tasted of fresh berries and was thick.

I really enjoy this Portillo's location. Every time I have visited, the food has been good and the service has been solid. The inside has that classic Chicago gangster theme that Portillo's is known for, which I think adds a lot of charm. This location does not seem very busy though, and I have barely ever seen the upstairs seating open, which is a bit of a bummer. It can also feel a little eerie when there are not many people inside. I usually go for the Italian beef sandwich and it never disappoints. I would skip the burgers since they taste a bit plain to me. I also recommend trying the birthday cake slice, it is really good.

The last time we visited the food was better. Don't miss the fries. My cheesesteak was okay but only a little cheese on the top and a lot came off with the wrapper. Not as good as last time. The chili dog was okay. The onion rings were very plain without any seasoning. How come the staff always look bored? Also, the tables were not wiped off. The place was almost empty and we had to hunt for a clean table.

We went for dinner. I thought I would try a dbl cheeseburger with bacon this time Also had the large fries with the cheese sauce on the side. As always the food was pretty good I thought the burger was a little greasy and to me the fries could have had a little more salt. This why it only gets 3 stars from ne today

We recently visited Portillo's and tried a mix of items: onion rings, fries, chicken sandwich, and the classic Chicago hot dog. The standout? Definitely the onion rings--crispy, golden, and full of flavor. The rest of the meal was solid, but nothing particularly memorable. We also grabbed a slice of chocolate and lemon cake to go, and honestly, dessert stole the show. Both cakes were light, moist, and packed with flavor. If I return, it'll be for the sweets. Portillo's knows how to end a meal right.

Absolutely love Portillos and this location was great. I got the Italian beef sandwiches and it was delicious. I got it dunked and with hot peppers which is definitely the way to go to get all the umami flavor with some spice. The staff is very nice and helpful, they missed my order so it took longer than expected but their customer service was great in response. The ambiance is always fun inside and I love the vintage signs and decor.

It was ok tonight. I ordered the beef and cheddar on croissant. It seemed like a regular bun. The fries we got were nice and hot and the cheese sauce was good. My husband liked his burger he got.

Food is amazing as always! My only complaint was the cleanliness of the restaurant. Not sure if they clean at the end of the day or when it's slow, but the bathroom was pretty messy as well as some booths and tables. We came around 4 pm, so not too busy but it did take us 5-10 min to order since the people in front of us took a whole. There is upstairs and downstairs seating. Employees were all friendly.

Fun place to bring the grandkids on a date! Atmosphere allows for "louder" kiddos and lots of movement.

Italian roast beef with sweet peppers and a slice of chocolate cake would be appropriate for your last meal on this planet.

It comes out in a cake dish just filled with smoke from the smoker. As the waitress takes the top off, she swirls the top around and makes the smoke go around the pizza. The pizza was so delicious! The space is quite large with open seating - something I'd expect is great for a large group. I asked if we could combine some tables and the staff said they'd do it for us. We ended up having a table for 8. While more people in my group showed up than expected, we ended up adding a few more chairs. With the open seating and lots of tables available, we thought it would be fine. However, the staff didn't seem to be too happy with us. Our group had not gotten together in a while, so a couple of us had switched chairs to talk with different people. The server said in a very rude way, "You guys need to stop switching seats. I can't keep track of your orders and you want this on separate checks, right?" We had never asked for separate checks and I would have offered to pay on one check if it made it easier, but she left right after saying that. Towards the end of our stay, after paying and enjoying some last minute shakes (around 9:15pm, they close at 10), the same server started putting away the metal chairs VERY loudly and carelessly while we were still finishing up. We all watched her throw the chairs on top of each other as we stayed silent because we couldn't hear each other over her stacking them. We took the hint and left. Everyone inside the restaurant followed after. I assume because they, too, felt awkward as she was loudly cleaning up. The food was mid at best, the beer selection and unique combinations are great, but the bad service made the experience miserable. I didn't notice the server treating any other guests as bad as our table, so I am just not sure why she treated us the way she did. I definitely won't be back.

From the hostess who graciously held the doors open for us in the 95° heat to our incredible server, David, everything was outstanding. We started with cocktails. I had what may have been the best bourbon Old Fashioned I've ever tasted, and my wife enjoyed a wonderfully refreshing cocktail (whose name I, unfortunately, can't remember). We began our meal with the roasted Brussels sprouts. Normally, I'm not much of a Brussels sprouts fan, but I happily cleaned the plate. My wife and I shared the 12-ounce filet mignon, cooked medium rare, and it was absolute perfection. Chef's kiss. David recommended a bottle of wine to pair with our steak. It wasn't inexpensive, but it was worth every penny. But wait... there's more. As incredible as that wine was with the filet, it somehow paired even better (yes, I know that sounds impossible) with the slice of heaven they call chocolate cake. I'm sure it has a much fancier name on the menu, but "slice of heaven" seems more accurate. If you've read my other reviews, you know I have a tendency toward hyperbole. If there were ever a time to lean into it, this is it. THIS MEAL WAS FANTASTIC. THE AMBIANCE WAS PERFECT. THE FOOD WAS EXCEPTIONAL. AND THE COMPANY WAS DIVINE. We will absolutely be back--and when we do, we'll be asking for a table in David's section. (He works Tuesday through Friday.)

I started with the tequila and mezcal Old Fashioned, and it was fantastic. It was well-balanced, beautifully presented, and garnished perfectly. The food was equally impressive. The wings were delicious--crispy, well-seasoned, and cooked perfectly. My only small note would be that the celery was a little limp. The Caesar salad has officially been added to my regular rotation. The jammy egg was cooked perfectly with a rich, yolky center that was still easy to slice. The Parmesan crisps were thoughtfully sized, adding great texture without being so large they scraped the roof of your mouth. The salad was evenly dressed, making every bite flavorful. Overall, excellent food, outstanding cocktails, and warm, attentive service. I'll definitely be back.
