Wife and I went by and had chili cheese hot dogs, onion rings, iced tea and chocolate cake. Hot dogs okay, but expensive. Onion rings same old mass produced, tasted okay for what they were. Stay away from the iced tea. Chocolate cake is good but had a frozen thawed out taste. But my gosh, the noise level is terrible! Employees try to be cute when announcing when order is ready which is constant and manager trying to keep employees motivated, have everyone constantly yelling cheers together. Impossible to have a conversation. May go back and try the salad, drink water and sit by front door where noise level hopefully lower. Recommend? Probably not. This is our first time here here! The lady at the counter, Kaleighann, was PHENOMENAL! Very kind and patient in answering any questions we had! She even gave us a sticker! If you enjoy freezing while eating, this is place for you. The air conditioning definitely works. As for the food, if you like hot dogs, make sure that you have a straw. I ordered 2 hot dogs for myself and 2 for my son. The buns were so soggy that they literally dripped (water I assume) while holding them. I couldn't eat the second hot dog as it was to soggy. Talk about a waste of money and food. I would like to say that they are on a learning curve, but the Surprise location has been open for many many months. I won't go into the hard fries. We have gone four times since they opened. First three times were actually great! Loved the food. Service was below average. But the food was good and they were fast. This last time was yesterday and I brought two more friends with my husband and I. Food was awful and nobody liked it or barely touched it. Very disappointing. The Italian beef sandwiches were bland, barely any peppers, and too wet. I tried the chicken sandwich was very wet and soggy. Fries were limp. First three times they were perfect for a crinkle fry. My friend got a Greek salad but it was packed full and very wet. Not an easy bowl to mix the salad around. Waste of money this last time. read more

As usual, Portillos delivers the finest Italian beef I am Vietnamese Valley. I've been a Portillos customer for over 40 years. I originally was visiting Portillo's when I lived in Chicago area. The new restaurant in Surprise Arizona carries on the fine record of the original restaurant. The Italian beef is well done, juicy and served in an adequate abundance. I would not suggest to people to have the fully dim led sandwich because it falls apart. An option is to ask for a serving of the juice in a cup. The Italian sausage sandwich is great and the sausage has great flavor. I personally like the sausage and Italian beef sandwich. The french fries are adequate, depending upon the cooks sense of what will the right color. It might be best if the owners were to contact McDonals and license the automated deep fryer they use. The hamburgers cooked well, but I don't go to Portillo's for hamburgers. The ambience of the restaurant is nothing but a 1950's diner, but you go there for the food and not for the decor. read more

Portillo's has many different menu items to satisfy your pallet. I'm from Chicago, so I was happy when they opened 5 mins down the road from me. If it's your first time trying Portillo's. Go with a Beef and/or a cheeseburger. A hot dog with everything. Fries...I like them with the cheese. Chocolate cake shake. Many of the salads are good and if you need to bring a dessert home or to a gathering order the chocolate cake. My favorite fast food place. Service is good. AZ just needs to speed it up as a whole. Not only they have burgers, but they also have delicious hotdogs french fries and many other things but I did order the burger. I'm a Chicago transplant (5 years) so I know how Portillo's food is supposed to be. In Surprise, I've found the burgers to be pretty good, the fries average (generous serving but limp), and the beef sandwiches disappointing. Back in Chicago I would order a beef sandwich and could only get through half of it because it was generously filled with beef. Here, not only do I finish the sandwich but am sometimes left somewhat hungry. Come on, Portillos! You charge enough for the sandwiches, how about putting the "Chicago" amount of beef inside! There's a reason your Chicago area restaurants have cars lined up for half a block to order take-out. Not seeing that here, are you? That could be why. read more

My first visit I had a hotdog it was excellent. I also had fries which were great. I love the fat fries because the skinny ones and In-N-Out Burger are cold by the time you get home every single time. Went back a second time a couple of days later because I really wanted to try the charbroil burger, normally I'm a Culver's fan but oh my goodness this burger was huge and good and the condiments were fresh. The tomato and lettuce were fresh and crunchy. It was the best burger I've ever had next to 5 Guys which has priced themselves in this market in my opinion. We went to Portillio's in Surprise for lunch. It has been many years since I've been in Chicago to enjoy beef sandwiches and went to many of the various stands around the City. Portillo's Chicago Beef Sandwich was disappointing. The roll was very good, and the sliced beef was dry. I added the peppers, and what a disappointment! They were OILY and slimy. One person had a sausage sandwich, and that was it. Just a roll and an OK (but dry) sausage, but no sauce. What's with that? The salads were all good. A nice young man came by each table to ask if he could clear the wrappings, etc., and we all commented how great that was. read more

We have gone twice and both times it was just awful; no flavor and when there is a flavor, it has a odd taste to it like a chemical. Their hamburgers were just ok. Whataburger is much better. Had an Italian beef sandwich with a kabalsi sausage covered with the beef. Half if it was pink inside, the outside of the sausage was black burnt. The Cheddar cheese steak on a croissant was soggy, very little cheese or meat and no taste. All in all, it is my final trip there. Over 40 dollars for a crappy meal for 2. The girl who took my order in the drive-thru was amazing, very personable, and patient. Being a new place and new employees I expected to wait a little longer than normal, I have no problem waiting. But when I get to the window and a manager is speaking to what looked like an employee in training and speaking down to her like a she child and then comes up to my car waving her hand and says "what I'm gonna have you guys do!." First off, I was the only person around, and felt the need to order me around liked I worked there. I was then rushed to move forward to help keep the line moving. I don't mind moving but the how she spoke to me was the problem, her tone and body language were not appropriate. I wanted to add adrink to my order (something very simple) but before I could say a word she's waking away.So I moved forward out of the way where she told me to park and I waited... and waited some more. When the food runner came out with my drink and my bag of food I asked if I could possibly add a drink to my order- I had my card in hand ready to pay for it. The kid with the curly hair chuckled and said "its a little to late for that." Every time I visit this establishment, I leave disappointed. I went there tonight specifically to support Willow HS. I placed my order online but encountered issues when trying to apply the Willow code, so I thought I could resolve it in-store. Unfortunately, the manager on duty, whom I've interacted with before, was not helpful at all. He informed me that nothing could be done. When I suggested canceling and reordering, he told me I could only cancel through the website, which was frustrating since that's not where I made my order. Having been a manager myself, I know how easy it is to cancel orders and make exceptions to ensure customer satisfaction. To top it off, my order wasn't ready when promised; in fact, it wasn't even started until I inquired about it. I ended up waiting even longer for them to prepare it.
