We had lunch there today as we do quite often, and saw the same guy working the tables that we have seen several times. When he came over to check on us, I asked him if he ever got a day off, since he seems to be working whenever we are there. Part of our order was wrong, and he went to the counter and fixed it. We thanked him and chatted for a moment, and then he went about checking up on other tables, cleaning up along the way. His name is Mark, and I hope you realize what a valuable asset you have on him. Now I know why the Italian Beef Sandwich is a classic favorite at Portillo's! It's sooo good. I love the hoagie bread used. It's tough enough to hold up to the hot, wet beef and marinated peppers, but soft inside. Fresh with a great taste. The beef and peppers are done just right. The beef is tender and the veggies add crunch, acidity and heat. Everyone already knows about the famous cake shakes here. They had a sign up at the drive thru for a seasonal Salted Caramel Cake Shake that sounded really good, but I needed that Chocolate Cake Shake today. Usually I go through the drive-through, but this time we decided to go inside and there was plenty of seating available. The atmosphere has a cool retro diner vibe that feels like stepping back into the 50s. Our food came out within about 10 minutes after ordering, even though they were pretty busy with both the drive-through and indoor customers. I am newer to eating at Portillo's. I have heard of them but I never go here to eat for multiple reasons. Well today was the day that. Hangers that. I orders myself an Italian beef , wet, and an order of chicken tenders as a combo for my daughter . My restaurant experience was good until I went to grab my drink at the self serve machine. The Dr. Pepper was out. There was a young lady who was restocking the area so I informed her. She said ok. After she was done restocking , she left. I thought she went to retrieve the syrup for the drink but she came back with her arms full of lids to stock. There were plenty of lids already but no Dr. Pepper. As I stood around the machine waiting for her to stick lids, I also was waiting for my food and Dr. Pepper. I tried the drink again and it was still out so I noticed it was another machine on the other side so I tried that Dr.Pepper. Nope they were out too. So I told the young lady again , there is no Dr. Pepper. Once again, she left after stocking. About 10 minutes passed and I'm waiting to be made aware of something with the drink but she never came back. My food was at the counter so I asked them if they can please give me some Dr.Pepper because the fountain was out and I informed a young lady and she left and never came back. They were more than happy to help me. After I got my cup back , I went back to the machine area for a lid and a different worker texted the Dr. w in which it worked perfectly. I got my food and left. I said all of that to say this, a response of more than ok would have been nice to tell me what is happening because I am standing there waiting to get my drink . Next time perhaps come back and let me know it's been refilled . Anyway, my sandwich was amazing and I loved it more than I expected. I would have given a 5 star but the whole Dr.Pepper thing ruined it. The place was also decorated very nice and was very clean. My family & I went to this location a few different times since it's close to our home about 20mins away. It's located in Prasada shopping center across the street from Whataburger & Costco & many other stores & restaurants. This location is very spacious, staff is friendly & food is made fresh to order. My husband ordered the Italian beef sandwich but have to add peppers which should be already added to an this w/o an additional charge of $2 & can also request for extra dip & or on the side combo w/ fries & drinks for $17. read more

I was been eating Portillo since I was young. I'm a huge fan and this location has always been friendly and clean. Unfortunately the last year and a half. I have been eating at this location always feeling like the beef sandwiches were very dry and not very much cheese when you ask for cheese. The fries are hit or miss as well. I went back over to the one by arrowhead Mall and it was made just how I expect it. Basically I have to remove a star because they are not quite as good as the other locations. Also, I have to remove another star for the fact that every time I go, it seems like they jack up the price. It's now about $18 to get what I used to get with $14. This place is terrible. We've given it three different chances ordering pickup/takeout and they have screwed something up each time. They throw everything in the bag with no thought to how that's going to survive the drive. The wait is always minimum 10 minutes in the drive thru even when you're the only one there and times are consistently missing. Just terrible service for overpriced food that's just alright. My husband and I were looking forward to going to Portillo's so much. We couldn't hear or understand what the girl said when she was taking our order. She kept talking to someone else in the kitchen through the microphone. It was really weird. Anyway, the was dogs were good. Fries were good but the chicken tenders were tiny and basically not worth the $. The place was a complete mess and disgusting. Every single table was dirty, including the seating. There was food all over the floor and the trash cans were overflowing. It seemed quite obvious some sort of manager was not around. I'd love to go back but it was so gross. This Portillo's just opened up about 2 months ago. Nice sized restaurant with all the colorful decorations and signage. I am happy that Arizona is getting some Chicago eateries. Our cashier was nice, friendly, and patient! Hot Dog (jumbo): Chicago-style hot dog with everything, which includes mustard, relish, celery salt, freshly chopped onions, sliced red ripe tomatoes, kosher pickle and sport peppers piled onto a perfectly steamed poppy seed bun. This brings me back to when I ate a Chicago hot dog for the first time. So good! Fries: Portillo's famous salty crinkle-cut French fries. Crispy, hot fries. Delicious. Strawberry Lemon Cake Shake: Their strawberry milkshake perfectly blended with a slice of their famous lemon cake. My wife dug into this, and I didn't get to take a pic. read more

I've only had Portillo's one other time at the Arrowhead location. I got a chili dog and wasn't aware it had a poppy seed bun, I don't care for poppy seeds. I never went back after that but since one has opened here in Surprise I decided to give it another try. During this visit, I asked if all the buns have poppy seeds and sadly they said yes. I guess poppy seed haters can just f*ck off then? Okay. So I got an order of the chili fries and a slice of the chocolate cake you hear so much about. Chili cheese fries were okay, they honestly didn't have much of a taste? It was weird, I should be tasting chili and cheese but it was just so bland! Fries were a bit soggy, they didn't seem to have ever been crisp to try and prevent the soggyness. The cake was the most disappointing part, especially hearing everyone clamor about it. It tasted pretty much like a regular box cake. I won't be back to try anything else. Portillo's is an experience and has a following. This was the first time here. We went through the drive thru the day before the Grand Opening. The traveling trainer was helpful in answering questions asked of the new team member. We ordered the #2 which is 2 Hot Dogs, small fries and a drink. We also ordered a Spicy Chopped Salad. The hot dogs meal came out first. The drink was too full and running over. We asked for napkins to wipe the cup. One team member went back in for the salad. I enjoyed my salad. It's enough for two meals. It's super spicy. The house bread is delicious especially with the soft butter. My husband wasn't impressed with his order. He asked for no ice but there was ice in the drink. Attention to detail is key. Welcome to Surprise! I may try a burger next time. read more

I don't mind driving to the other locations, but this is literally a mile or so from my house! I drove through, and got 2 dogs with everything except pickle, and a large cheese fries (my usual order). Staff was friendly, food was great, service was fast. Can't beat it. Always, and I mean ALWAYS fill out the receipt survey. You get a free large fries on your next visit. So with the coupon, you can get 2 loaded Chicago dogs and a large cheese fry for about $10.00. Portillo's is fantastic! I've tried so many things on the menu at this point and nothing disappoints. My favorite is the Maxwell St. Polish Dog, which has caramelized onions on it that are just delicious. Service here is pretty solid, and the place is massive! Very easy to find a seat when dining in and not have to be packed in with others. The walls have tons of cool old posters and memorabilia, which are super fun to look at. read more

Worst customer service I've experienced in a long time, I don't usually leave reviews, but this was unacceptable. I found a hair in my food from Portillo's, which is already disgusting enough. I called the location to let them know, hoping they'd at least apologize or offer a solution -- but the manager was incredibly rude over the phone. No apology, no concern, no offer to make it right. Just a dismissive attitude like it was my problem. Totally unprofessional and honestly unsanitary. Four of us went there because I'm from Chicago and I have an out of town friend that used to live in Chicago and does not have a Portillos in Virginia. We ordered a wide variety of foods, including french fries and onion rings. The order was so messed up we ended up going back to the counter three times to get it fixed. The excuse was that they had a new staff person on the line who was learning. OK. They gave us a piece of chocolate cake for our trouble. The food was, well, Portillos. Delicious and consistent. The restaurant was clean and inviting. I could barely finish my italian beef so I took my Chicago dog home for later. When I unwrapped it, it was a Maxwell street polish. That would have made for a fourth trip had I known, but the polish was good. Everything you would expect from a Chicago Portillos, but the service is lacking, at least on this visit. It was just okay. The chicken tender breading reminded me a bit of KFC, which I want a huge fan of. They weren't very crispy but were still juicy, which was good. The fish sandwich was very disappointing. It turned to a soggy mess in a couple of minutes as did the lettuce because of an overload of tartar sauce. The fish was also smaller than the bun. This felt like a slightly elevated Filet-O-Fish. The chocolate eclair cake and chocolate cake were both very good. The chocolate cake was very sweet and the eclair cake had a pretty nice balance. I wish they had more than one cashier as the line was close to the door for a good 45min. Otherwise, great service. I would go back to try a some of the other items. Had their Chicken Pecan salad with bacon, and shared some onion rings with my companion; had a bite of her hamburger. The salad was well-prepared, but it just wasn't my cup of tea. YMMV. The onion rings were good, and we asked for them to be extra crisp. Yum!. The hamburger's bun was what made it better than most burgers, making it a candidate selection for the future.
