Pow Pow is amazing! I was introduced as a member of Ohev Shalom when they certified it under DC Kosher. This is the first time we dined in person at the new location after an interview with Honeymoon Israel (which we got into and are going in February) upstairs in this building. The original location is on H Street which we have ordered from to our area but never dined in person or picked up from there. We got the Thai Pumpkin Soup with crispy wontons, a regular sized Natalie Porkman, and a regular Orange Sunshine Chick'n without the peanuts. We had plenty to take home for leftovers. The prices are extremely reasonable and the staff are very friendly. Everything is kosher and vegan, and our out of town friends are surprised how affordable this place is compared to kosher or vegan places in NYC. There is a good amount of seating for the lunch or dinner crowds. We look forward to returning! read more

I personally am not vegan or vegetarian, but I do eat a lot of tofu, make a lot of vegetarian curries and use alternative milks frequently, so I'm very comfortable with meals not requiring meat. A vegan friend was visiting from out of town and only had a few hours before her flight, so I found Pow Pow for us to lunch at. I legitimately enjoyed my bowl. Although I was sorely tempted by both the dan-dan carbonara and the Korean friend "chik'n", I decided to go healthier and had the Yoda Dragon bowl over salad instead of having a rice or noodle based dish. The "grilled chik'n" was pretty good, it didn't have a strong flavor of its own but soaked up the yummy peanut sauce and sriracha that was generously applied atop everything. There were lots of edamame and black beans, various veggies, and fresh salad, with as I said a lot of sauce. If anything, a lot more sauce than I normally put on a salad. But it worked. I neither missed the meat nor the dairy, and the small serving was more than enough for me. I finished it, mainly because I hadn't eaten breakfast; otherwise I might have gotten full before finishing it like my friend did. She had a cauliflower based bowl, I forgot what it was called and I didn't see it on the online menu - it looks like they had a lot more options in-store than their website showed. My friend LOVED not having to worry about what on the menu was ok for her to eat. If you're vegetarian or vegan: run, don't walk, to give them a try. If you're not, I still recommend giving them a try for some fresh, healthy and tasty food. They're only a block from MacPherson Square metro stop, and there's a delightful park across the street for some outdoor dining (only four tables with umbrellas, and those were taken, but it was nicely overcast today). The staff was very friendly, and they had a nice selection of Maine Root bottled sodas (ginger beer and blueberry 4tw!) and other beverages. There was plenty of indoor seating and the bathrooms were clean. Price wise, I think the small bowls were around $12 a piece and although they have appetizers I'd be too full to eat them with one of these so I'd save those for when I just wanted a snack. I'm not sure how often I'll be in this part of town but I actually really want to try some of the other dishes that sounded so good so hopefully I can find an excuse! read more

I have been here before and had a previous great experience at this location . Today we encountered a very rude and racist owner named Margo who made our food to go after ordering dine in. It all started with asking for the bathroom code and being rudely questioned if we were paying customers after ordering $80 worth of food. Stopped in for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Place was chill, maybe four or five of their diners, upbeat music and lots of places to sit. Staff was friendly and patient, giving us a heads up that there would be a longer wait for one of the items that we chose. Our food came relatively quickly, freshly prepared and nice and hot, delivered to our seat. We got the Disco fries, giant eggroll and fried dumplings. I would say the phrase for my favorite. They were really well dressed and had a good mix of spicy, savory, creamy. The dumplings were good however I was a little perplexed because they tasted like they had been fried with something sweet which was not mentioned anywhere on the menu. The Giant egg roll was very novel and I like the sauces that came with it however it kind of sat in its own oil after being fried and was really greasy. If it had been served on something other than a plate, maybe something to soak up the oil or sat that for a few minutes to drain it would have been more enjoyable. It's hard to find plant-based menus that are Asian fusion so this is pretty cool. Definitely have to go back because they were out of the mozzarella sticks! read more

I don't think l "fast casual" is intended to mean that the restaurant will be casual about making you wait for over an hour for a salad. 72 minutes. With no explanation. I sat, stood, and sat again as fellow customers, all facing the same absurd wait, become increasingly hangry. It felt like some kind of social psychology experiment. Toward the end of my wait normal social graces had begun to fall away. Rather than scaring other customers with my tummy rumbling I shyly ate some vegan cheese I'd purchased when I ordered. Then I brazenly ate it with some crackers I purchased from CVS. Several people apparently gave up entirely and abandoned their orders. The women who had ordered just before me loudly announced they were claiming the fries from such an order, spoiling for staff to challenge them. It's awfully lucky that the customer base of this establishment are vegan and perhaps a bit less likely to get violent when hungry, but I was relieved that I had ordered it to-go and would not have to have to wait around and see if Pow Pow was going to go full- Lord-Of-The-Flies. My salad was fine. However, there is no fast-casual salad worth an hour of my life. I'm not so much angry as I am disappointed in myself for having waited as long as I did instead of shrugging off the $15 (that included a 20% tip! Hah!). I went to visit this location for lunch again today before a work meeting I had. I ordered using their kiosk assuming the wait time would not be as long. Unfortunately the wait time was longer than I had hoped and they had to end up comping part of my order. Came back for more. Initally I was going to order the Dan Dan Carbonara but that was sold out, so I ordered the General's Chick'n and Kung Pao Fingers. The General's was alright. Tasty plant based meats but weak on the sauce department. I was expecting my rice to get bombed by black beans like last time, but when I ate today I couldn't find any. Considering the amount of beans I was eating last time I found this to be easier to take in. On the other hand, the Kung Pao Fingers was a total bomb. The thick sauce that coated the fingers were overwhelmingly sour to the point where I wasn't able to tell the other flavors that were going on in there. I tried to sike myself into liking it but it just wasn't happening, it was too much. Maybe if the sauce were milder I would've enjoyed it. Anyhow, the customer service here is alwayswonderful. I brought up that the Kung Pao Fingers were inedible to one of the employees,then they replaced it for me without saying another word; by the way, they were delicious as I paired them with the firecracker and sesame dipping sauces (it's basically sesame aioli) that came along with it. The food here is absolutely amazing. I can't even describe the incredibly complex and delicious flavors. We met the chef and owner, and she was so helpful in guiding us through the menu. We wanted to order everything but ended up ordering one of the egg rolls and dumplings to start, followed by the Natalie Porkman and dan dan noodles. The portions are generous. But we boxed some, and it reheats beautifully. I love how the restaurant incorporates fresh ingredients and plenty of veggies into each dish. It was such a joyful experience.
