My gnocchi was delicious and my friend enjoyed his pasta. The portions are very generous. Loved the decor. This is a perfect place for a date. We went during the week and there was still a crowd but no wait time. I love the open concept kitchen and the way the menu is set up. You can tell that the chef puts a lot of thought into his dishes. Plenty of vegetarian options, which is always a plus. Our waiter seemed to be in a rush and it was slightly off putting. Not sure if he was at the end of his shift or having a bad day, but it seemed like we were an afterthought. In my search for Rustic Italian food in honor of "Nonna Cucina Rustica" in Puerto Rico. I stumbled on this place while here in Chicago. No free bread with herbs & olive oil‍ but food was good. We ordered the Tartuffo pizza with mozzarella, tomatoes, arugula& truffle oil. Crust wasn't as thin as I prefer, but ingredients were fresh & flavorful. My husband ordered the Grilled Salmon W/Sautéed Spinach & white wine garlic sauce on the side. I ordered the beet & cheese ravioli. It was both of our best bites of the night & that's saying a lot because he doesn't like cheese. If you live here or frequent Chicago, this is definitely a Must-try, as the menu changes often & there is always something new & innovative to try. I was really craving pizza and my friend took me to this place - was not disappointed. We came in around 7pm on a Sunday night and the place was fairly quiet probably because it was snowing all day. We were seated promptly and the service was overall very efficient. The ambiance was very romantic with the lights dimly lit for dinner and huge windows that I imagine would bring in a lot of light during the day. I ordered the Diavola pizza which was the perfect combination of spicy sopressata and sweet honey. You can order a quarter or half sheet with each quarter being one serving size so you could mix and match a bunch of different varieties of pizza to share if you came with a larger party. The pizza was more like a flatbread but still tasted delicious with a thicker base and sauce and toppings piled up to the very edge. We got the chocolate lava cake to share for dessert (it had some fancier name on the menu but I don't remember what is it...) It tasted good - you can't go wrong with chocolate and vanilla ice cream but I was disappointed that the lava cake's filling didn't ooze out like I expected. Overall, very delicious Italian restaurant with something to offer everyone. They also have blackboard specials that are updated regularly so that you can always try something new. read more

The food here is good, just not exceptional. Average is the best term to describe this place. While I enjoyed my meal, this isn't a restaurant I would go out of my way to eat at. I tried the Ravioli Rossi, Colorata salad, and Diavola Pizza. The ravioli was my favorite, with with nice mix of goat cheese and beet for the filling. They were probably the largest ravioli I've ever seen, so this dish was actually quite filling. The salad was pretty mediocre- could have made the same spinach salad myself at home. The pizza was good with a crispy crust, and the quarter sized portion was very generous. Again, good food, just not wowed. read more

Don't come here if you want your steak medium rare. I unfortunately had to send my steak back three times because they kept cooking it medium well instead of medium rare. For a $44 steak, there wasn't even a hint of redness. To make matters worse, the owner/head chef brought out the third attempt and was blatantly rude to my boyfriend when he spoke up since I was too uncomfortable to do so. I regret not taking photos, but overall I don't recommend coming here if you want your steak cooked properly. read more

We had about 40 people at PR Italian bistro today. For $40 we got a beautiful starter menu and bottomless Mamosa's additionally, we also had the opportunity to pick our own food for our main entrée. My entrée featured two pancakes a fried egg on top two pieces of bacon and fried potatoes. The pancakes were delicious and soft and tender. The egg was perfectly served sunny side up on top of the pancakes. There were two beautiful pieces of bacon cooked to perfection. And the potatoes were chopped up into cubes and perfectly Friday and seasoned. Overall I was very happy with my selection even though I never had a fried egg on pancakes before. The pizzas that we were served were delicious. There was a crostini with ricotta cheese and a blueberry sauce. All were delicious. Now I want to talk about the service. It appears that either the owner or manager was not supposed to be there that day. But because we were such a big group she was there. Our server was fantastic and really worked hard to make sure that everybody had what they wanted and that we were satisfied. Maybe they were a little slow to bring ice water when asked for but that was the only criticism that I can offer. They were very generous with filling the bottomless Mimosa's and happy to fill over and over and over. If you have read my reviews you know that I like my booze. Lastly I just want to say that at the end of our brunch both the manager/owner and our waiter went to each and every person and group to make sure that we were happy with the meal that we had today. You could tell that they really appreciated the fact that we brought a large group of people to the restaurant. It's a Friday night and I don't why they only had one server . We realized it when it took 15 minutes for the server just to greet us. We ordered and everything was fast which was good. Sadly, I was underwhelmed by the carpaccio because there was not much meat ( we are aware it's thinly sliced) but it was not enough and there were no tomatoes at all even the description says "tomatoes ". - it actually arrived 2 minutes after we ordered so we felt it was rushed because we were the last one who came in the restaurant around 9pm. The pasta was good but too much salt on the breading of the chicken. The Patate Rosmarino on their menu arrived like a plain potato slices with so much salt that we didn't enjoy. The lemonade I ordered tastes like watered-down drink. We didn't complain anymore because the server did not even check back how was our food and the kitchen will close in any minute. For this experience , I'm not sure if I can recommend or would be back here. read more

PR is a hidden gem, right under the Sheridan red line! It's great for brunch and for dinner. I'd recommend going all the time, honestly. For brunch, I got their bottomless mimosas (why not?) and their frittelle. Their food is delicious. I was slightly disappointed in their frittelle- it's a pancake, fried egg, with bacon and maple syrup. I didn't love it- the egg with the pancake. It's my fault for ordering it, they made it correctly but I didn't love. On a more positive note- their pizza and pasta are great here! I've had their diavola pizza- nicely spicy, not so spicy that it's overwhelming. The honey on it adds a whole new level! Beautiful. Magnificent. Their pollo chioggia. Came here to celebrate an early Valentine's day dinner and had excellent service! The place is dimly lit and has a romantic vibe, so it was a great choice. Would've been a five star experience, but we both experienced discomfort later that we attributed to our dinners. However, I wouldn't go as far as to say it was food poisoning... it might have just been too much cream;l, etc. We would still give it another try, as our dinners were tasty and not overly expensive. Went to PR after a long several year hiatus and thinking about how good everything was. Went for dinner on a Wednesday night and the place was pretty full; don't expect any social distancing as the seating area as are pretty tight. We ordered the pizza, halibut specials, and kids pasta and meatballs. The pizza was as expected and very good. The fish was generous portion and good, the dish could have used more sauce and better dressed pasta. The meatballs were a bit dry and when we asked for a side of marinara sauce they brought that tiniest dressing cup, which was comical. We would have preferred the meatballs were served in a separate bowl with a generous amount of sauce. Dessert options were limited, therefore we passed. Service was solid; our server was quick to get our halibut in before it sold out and the runners and bussers were attentive. In conclusion, the food itself was a bit lacking from my past experiences and memories, but still some solid options and great pizza. read more

I found this place on the Lakeview East Instagram page and just thought I'd explore their menu to see what they offered. The pictures do not do any of their food justice. I swear there is a magician in that kitchen because the bread was good and drove us wild waiting to see what our pastas would taste like. We did all but lick our plates! The environs make me want to while days away here, eating, drinking and dishing. The staff - friendly, helpful and cute. Attentive without being overbearing. Fantastic. The staff were absolutely great. The day I went in, there was a Stiegl beer tasting. Points 'cos they have this delicious beer available. Stiegl beer guy was friendly, cute and generous with the samples. My cousin-sister and I ended up ordering two Stiegls, so his tasting worked. Yum The pizza. It was good when served hot. We got the Quattri something, with ham/artichokes/mushrooms and the meat pizza with pepperoni/sausage. A half of each, and it was an embarrassment of food for two chicks. A half pizza is A LOT here. I excitedly and giddily texted a pic to a fabulous pizza snob I know, and a few other people, all "this is delish!" The crust that people talk about here is delish, buttery, garlicky - it really is pretty special. It was just a *touch* too thick and cornmeal-y for me, though. Very filling but good. What made me frown. One way a pizza gets points with me is being a good leftover. We had so much food left, that we packed it up to eat later. For me, this means dinner the next day. I tried to eat the leftovers the next day, and they had completely died. Like, it was terrible. Soggy and mealy. This made me sad, because it really was great pizza when it was fresh. Maybe that's a bad way to judge a pizza, but it's something that is important to me. That said, I'll come back here. The pizza WAS good, I just won't order too much food again so I can consume it all in one sitting. And they have Stiegl, and it is a great bar and location (right near the Sheridan Red line - DON'T DRIVE!). Look for their star rating to improve from me, it is worth it to try this place. read more

Just moved to the neighborhood and were super excited to try this place. We always pick a "go-to" home base restaurant every where we live and then turn into frequent guests. Sat at the bar and the two male bartenders seemed completely annoyed we were there. Would not acknowledge us, we had to call them over each time. Wouldn't give any eye contact. When we tried to order dinner they turned away before we were done and had to call them back to add a vegetable two times!. They were like snarky mean girls. It was THE WEIRDEST experience at bar seating ever. Shame because we are big tippers too. The only thing that saved them was the owner came over to apologize for our meals being late, which we completely understood. They were busy and everyone is still trying to build up their staff. Someone needs to tell the bar divas that rude behavior does not encourage repeat visits. Ambiance is adorable though. read more

Catching the tail end of happy hour, I stopped by to get some work done. The weather was absolutely beautiful and I was able to get a little table on the outside patio sans a reservation. I started with a Pinot Grigio followed by Prosecco accompanied by their potato pizza flat bread - which was delicious and a perfect appetizer to snack on. My server was helpful with suggestions and courteous with allowing me to get work done while having a light meal and beverage. Since I decided to stay longer, I thought it would be considerate to purser an entree and decided upon the gnocchi. I asked for half of it to be boxed prior to being brought to the table since I wasn't truly hungry, and ordered another Prosecco. I received the full plate which was then taken away afterwards to be half boxed, but when it was returned, my fork had been taken and not replaced. By the time I was able to ask for a fork, my gnocchi was cold. I was pretty disappointed because I only ordered the extra drink and entree to be considerate. I figured I wouldn't be charged for my last Prosecco or at the very least he charged the happy hour price, but alas, that was not the case. I'd love to be a regular here since I live nearby, I'm sure this was just an irregular fluke. I'm giving 5 stars instead of the 4 I'm inclined towards because the head chef/owner is not responsible for an oversight like this. The chef came out regularly to mingle with the guests which I really enjoyed to watch. I will also add that when I told my server he did take my pasta back to the kitchen to be tossed again and warmed up, which I truly appreciated. The only thing that could've really made this a five star experience is if my last drink had been on the house, seeing as I spent $80 to mainly sit and get work done. I had wanted to try this place for a while since I saw it on Instagram I believe. The food very good I would have given it 4.5 stars. My biggest complaint was with the service. I hate it when a server walks by a table with dirty plates and doesn't take them away. The waitress walked by my table numerous times and missed it. The busser did eventually remove them. PR Italian Bistro is an Italian oasis in a neighborhood of sports bars and take out pizza places. It is an intimate, cozy restaurant on Sheffield right by the red line stop. There are no TVs to watch the game and the ambiance is kind of chill - a real anomaly for just a few blocks away from Wrigley. Despite the recent success of the Cubs and subsequent modernization of the area around the field, the area North of the ballpark is relatively unchanged from when I lived there 15 years ago. The owner is part of a community effort to beautify the area and bring in new businesses. He seems very involved in the business and interactive with the customers. You can see him and the team cooking away in the small, open kitchen. The menu isn't too extensive, but they are all solid options. We just split an order of burrata and the Pollo Pesto pizza. The burrata tasted and looked great - it just seemed a little firm. The pizza comes out in a thin crust square. The crust is thin, yet buttery and dense. Toppings are pretty abundant and all mixed well together. A large sized pizza was more than enough for 3 people to share. The entrees at other tables looked pretty good too. This is a great place to check out if you are in the area and want a low key place to enjoy dinner or drinks. read more

This is probably my favorite Italian food in the city. The blackboard menu items are always a delicious rotating list of dishes. The prices are more than reasonable, and the staff is always welcoming. Of course, it is not RPM Italian, but it is also not a huge, corporate chain. This is a neighborhood-owned, intimate restaurant where the kitchen puts real emphasis on the dining experience and customer appreciation. 2 years ago I used to frequent this restaurant when it was called Pizza Rustica. The pizza back then was amazing. They had a buttery, crispy pizza with delicious crumbled sausage. Also they used to make summer sangria with fresh fruit but I guess they stopped doing that as well. Last night we were so excited to order pizza, but we were very disappointed. The crust was undercooked and soft. The Hawaiian pizza had thick slices of what seemed like cold lunch meat. We also ordered a pepperoni style pizza that was below average. Overall, dissatisfied with the new menu at this restaurant. Not sure if there was a change of ownership or head chef over the past couple years. I really want to like this place and support the neighborhood but my experiences have just not been great. I have dined there a few times and my most recent take out order was the last straw. The $10 Cesar salad was worse than a grocery store salad kit, the $24 salmon was a small piece with two bites of spinach as a side, the worst was the spaghetti & meatballs. All I wanted was noodles, marinara sauce, and meatballs and was charged $25 for that! Was beyond disappointed when receiving the food. Hands down my favorite Italian place in Chicago. Yes, all of Chicago. Amazing food at great prices with super nice staff (especially Juliana and David). The head chef/co-owner Stefano is born and raised in Italy, and if I had the money, I would hire him as my personal chef. I am a regular and get it all the time, but if I could have one meal the rest of my life it would be their Pollo Chioggia, the prosciutto adds delicious flavor to the perfectly crusted chicken and the best pesto sauce I've ever had. It is beautiful. They also have one of the best daily specials (blackboard) menu I have ever seen. I've had kangaroo steak, wild boar ragu, and imported wagyu from Japan among many other amazing, ever changing selections and they are always outstanding. They have delivery, offer takeout, and are genuinely nice people who make great meals.
