This rental store is conveniently located in a Northwest corner of the parking garage on Leidesdorrff and Reading street. The one person who runs it has an extensive knowledge of the bikes, he is always courteous, and makes sure your rental experience is excellent. At times the line is long for rentals, but you can see that he is working hard to get to you without rushing people ahead of you out the door. Each person gets the attention they need. I live in Colorado and I am writing this review after witnessing his consistent performance during several visits renting bikes. I hadn't really been on a bicycle since I was a kid. My commute to work was only 8 miles, so I thought I would toy with the idea of buying an electric bicycle. I didn't want my commute to be a huge ordeal involving special clothes and showers, so I figured an electric bike would be easier to add to my routine. I test rode 2 other models from other bike shops that also sold conventional bikes. I liked the other bikes, but I wasn't loving on them. Finally, I test rode a Pedego City Commuter from Practical Cycle in Folsom. I was very impressed. The other bikes didn't have a throttle control; just a response to pedaling. Also, the other bikes have a mid drive instead of a rear drive. The result is the ability to start from a full stop at any gear setting; making left turns in traffic from a stop (especially for a noob) much easier. Flying down the bike trail is a blast, making sure I "drop out of warp" to respect the space of others. My commute is now my favorite part of my day! Tim was very helpful with my questions. I wasn't sure if my bike was going to fit in the bike locker at my work, so he let me ride it out there to confirm before buying. I brought the bike back for the 100 mile adjustment and Ed was very helpful about getting the work done timely. I would definitely recommend them to anyone who is nervous about getting into the electric bike world. read more

When I was researching ebikes, I saw many references to the higher premium to buy a Pedego, however that the quality of the machine and the exceptional dealership support would more than make up for the price difference. Well to validate this point, I just had my excellent customer experience with Practical Cycle, the Pedego dealership in Folsom, CA. I bought my City Commuter at Practical Cycle in Folsom and had a very good shopping experience there. I drove two hours just to buy my ebike after researching for months and settling on Pedego. Tim the store manager was very patient and answered all my dumb questions. Don't know why the one stars?! He was even willing to stay late so that I can pick up my bike that came on order. Wow, what a great shopping experience and I rode my beautiful new e bike for two hours today and still didn't want to get off it. It is so easy to use, so fun and it'll be perfect for commuting to work and for sightseeing on weekends. After doing a LOT of research on electric bikes, I decided to purchase one from Practical Cycle in Folsom. I have to say, my experience at this shop was FANTASTIC! Tim was available to me right away, and brought the bike that I was interested out immediately. He was very knowledgeable and answered all of the questions that I had. One bonus is that this bike shop is located at the entryway to the Folsom bike path, so I could take the bike out for a test ride safely, experience both straightaways and hills, and go for as long as I needed. SO FUN! Then, Tim went out of his way to make specific modifications (upgrades) to the bike that I wanted, even though it was at the end of the business day. AND, as if that wasn't enough, he actually DELIVERED the bike to me at no extra charge, working with me on a complex errand schedule. Now that I'm home, I just took the bike for a test ride on local roads here in the foothills of Nevada City - HILLS being the operative word. I was able to ride all the way from one end of town, into the neighboring town of Grass Valley, and home again, and the charge/bar indicator is still full! With the steep terrain here, my main concern was whether the Pedego Platinum Interceptor would have enough power & range to get me all around my area, and it did so with absolutely no problem. I tend to be a conservative rider, using all my gears and keeping the assist level fairly low at an average of "2". I still got a pretty good workout, but it was at my own pace, at a healthy level, on my own terms. Thanks so much to all the staff at Practical Cycle. We bought a Pedego Stretch electric-assist cargo bike a few weeks ago, and it's THE BEST! Great product, and amazing service at Practical Cycle in Folsom! I posted a longer review of the bike we bought on the Practical Cycle webpage, but here's a quick summary of the important points: The Stretch is straightforward and easy to use, and makes me feel like Superwoman. I feel like I'm still biking on a normal bike, but there is an invisible force giving me just the amount of help I need when I start struggling to pedal up a hill. Even with 3 kids (ages 1,3, and 5) on the back! During our initial test ride, the kids might even have been more enthusiastic than I was. My 5-year-old son couldn't stop yelling "I love this electric-assist cargo bike!". We bike to school, to soccer practice, to the farmer's market, to restaurants, to grocery stores, on the trails just for fun; pretty much anywhere we need to go we can take the Stretch instead of the car. Sometimes I don't use the e-assist function, when I'm feeling like I want to work harder, and sometimes it's on full throttle (yes, there actually IS a real throttle on the handlebar grip!), like when we're late for practice and the field is all the way at the top of a mile-long hill. The beauty of this bike, for me, is that it eliminates the stress and intimidation of biking longer distances, while enhancing a host of other positives that you get with cycling on a regular bicycle. And all while doing it WITH my children. Even when the kids have outgrown the bike, it will still be a wonderfully useful tool for carting around everything we need and getting to where we need to go. Here are a few more benefits I see using this bike: * Bicycling is way cheaper than owning a car, and by effectively using my Stretch as a second vehicle we are saving a lot of money every year. * Both the kids and I love it and we are more engaged with our surroundings. We have the best conversations while we're riding together and observing birds, construction equipment, or chatting about whatever we're passing at the moment. * I can carry SO MUCH on this bike! It easily handles two kids in the back, and I found that a milk crate fits perfectly in the front holder and easily fits 2 backpacks, a diaper bag, my purse, a bike lock, and other miscellaneous items * There's no argument that bicycling is better for the environment than driving. It's much less resource-intensive to build and maintain compared to a car. * Hills are no longer the intimidating inconvenience they used to be, which makes me more inclined to take trips by bike than by car. * Even with the e-assist function, bicycling still gets you out and moving, and exercise usually makes you feel better. * The electric assist is QUIET. * It's user friendly and can accommodate a variety of different configurations to meet whatever your carrying needs are at the time. * It's easy to adjust the assist levels to accommodate changing speeds and terrain. Though the positives far outweigh the negatives, there are still a few issues. Although I mentioned above that it's cheaper than owning a car, it's still expensive for what most people consider spending on a bicycle. The initial investment is currently usually at least $4K for the bike I have, and more if you want to upgrade or add features. Related to the initial cost is also the replacement cost of the battery, which is only expected to last 2-4 years officially. With proper care it will likely last longer, but replacements are also not cheap (estimate more than $1K currently). It's a HEAVY bike, and if your kids decide to have a dance party on the back seat, or rock-out to an imaginary song by swaying back and forth, it's obviously hard to maintain good balance on the bike. And the bike is so fun that they WILL probably want to party! read more

If you're going to rent a bike that a customer is paying for, make sure you rent equipment that can function correctly while rented. Out of the 8 bikes rented one bike made a constant screeching sound and another kept shutting on and off without us knowing. Not our first rentals of electric scooters and bikes but for certain our last with this company. Upon check-in we were instructed to sign a waiver. The tablet was not plugged in and functioning. We were then told to go outside and not crowd the inside of the shop. Then when we were about to leave we had to wait and sign the waiver, but could not do so until the tablet was charged. Lack of preparation and attention to detail made the customer service of this experience one of the worst ever. Furthermore, upon return we were asked if we skidded the tires because they were worn down. We didn't get new bikes to begin with. Word to the wise take photos of the way you bike looks upon renting or they will accuse you of damages upon return. read more
