The people renting the place, complained of a problem that stemmed from under the sink. The response time was fairly quick with them, they came right out. They had to switch out a disposal, and they were able to do it fairly quick. I feel they were reasonably priced, and provided a good service / good rate. First off no issue with the rep that does the follow ups or scheduling. That being said I reached via Yelp for a small leak under a sink. The rep called same day and said they could get someone out tomorrow and get the job done. I told her I wanted an estimate first because I don't want to commit to pay if it is something ridiculous cost. She hesitated and said she would be right back. After about 5 mins on hold she comes back and says ok someone will come out tomorrow and give me an estimate and then if I approve the work they can do the repair. I was like perfect, even worked with them on whatever time worked best for them. Next morning same lady calls me to tell me so it will be $495.00! I said wait how do you know that without seeing it. Some guy in the back goes we are just gonna replace the faucet so that's how much it will be and she repeats that to me. I was like wait what? you guys are going to charge me almost $500 bucks without knowing what is wrong??? The guy in the back said it's the faucet or the basket either was same price! I told her no and to cancel the request. Whoever the business manager is for this business can you please do everyone a favor and remove "free estimates" from anything associated with your business. Obviously I would pay if you came out showed me what was wrong and what needed to be replaced but for you to give me an estimate just so you don't have to come out is a scam. Called to have an evaluation plumber was over an hour late. Immediate quote very expensive for a simple toilet clog. Plumber was a nice man but seemed to lack experience/knowledge often called boss for reassurance. First day, he was unable to unclog the toilet because he did not bring the proper equipment. Second day showed up late as well ultimately said he needed to remove my toilet to drain it and leaves my white tile floors with black scrapes. Toilet itself was placed completely away from original quaking and damaged so will now have to replace as well. Was highly unsatisfied with the $400 services I paid for. Plumber was not able to fix anything or give any result made me believe it was a larger problem like my septic tank or pipes. I didn't know the first thing on how to fix something like this. I had tried to go to home depot to do it myself, but should have called them from the get go. I couldn't be any happier with how we were treated by Preferred Plumbing. My 90 gallon bathtub started draining into my showers and flooding the bathroom. As we cleaned up the mess, I called every plumber I could find that advertised 24 hour service. This was Saturday around 1130 pm. Preferred Plumbing was the only company I could actually get ahold of that didn't want to charge $80-100 just to show up. Brian was so nice and because it was a busy evening for them, got us scheduled for a visit at 9 am for a free estimate. I hate having strangers in my house, but Gene was so polite and made me feel comfortable right away. He kept us in the loop about what he was doing and what he might try next. The fix was way more affordable than we expected. I have no reason to call anyone else if we have any plumbing issues in the future, and I'd request Gene specifically if possible. 10/10 on service, communication and value. read more

I called preferred plumbing at 6 pm on a Sunday with an emergency job. Water was not flushing and backing up into my toilet and shower. I called, and within an hour, they sent out a technician, Gene. He was professional and very nice. He snaked the plumbing and found the cause approximately 90 feet down the line. A suspected root ball was blocking my plumbing and not allowing it to drain, causing the backup. It took him approximately one hour to diagnose and fix the issue. At this moment I can only give one star. I called regarding an issue with my shower faucet. This issue required us to shut off out water, so I wanted someone to fix it ASAP. I called this company just before 8 pm. They took my information and told me a dispacher would get back to me. One hour later, the dispacher called me, told me that they only have one tech on duty who has 2 jobs before he can get to mine. It'll probably be around 1 am before he will be here. I agreed since the other 24 hour places I called could only offer me a 7 am appointment. At 2 am, still no plumber, so I called the number to get an update. I spoke to Brian. He told me that the tech got held up at the job before mine because he went in thinking it was a residential water heater, but ended up being 2 commercial water heaters for a nursing home. He estimated it would probably be 3 or 4 am before the arrival of the tech at my house. He told me he would be checking in with the tech in approximately 20 minutes and would give me a call back. It is now 5:01 am. No tech and no call back. Just silence. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY Late Saturday night in Stockton, Toilet was not flushing. After some serious attempts of using plunger, I went to the clean out (outside) but I didn't have a snake to use so I called these guys. Plumber came out and said he couldn't snake out the clean out since it was a one way and only could be done from inside the house by removing the toilet. 3 hours later and a couple of hundred dollars..no result. He said I needed some heavy duty work outside by adding a two way clean out for $1200. I turned it down . I called another plumber.He came out, went straight to the clean out, used the snake and 25 min later... finished. Problem solved. I am sooo unhappy with Preferred Plumbing & Drain. I got them to come out to help with a clogged toilet. The technician showed up and didn't announce his name nor did they wore booties or any protection on their shoes. They charged me $165 for a job that took less than a minute. All the tech did was shove a snake down the toilet and said it was fixed. The next day I tested it and it still didn't flush. I called back and the representative said she will write up the work order as a recall and I shouldn't be charged again. The tech came out and shoved a snake down the toilet again and says it's working and wanted to charge me another $165 for the same issue that didn't get resolved when I paid the first time. If they had told me I was getting charged again I wouldn't have let them do any work. If I could give this place less than 1 star I would. I had called 6 local companies as I'm a firm believer in helping my small businesses, out of the 6, 1 told me he didn't have time and had too many jobs, another one told me he charges 120 to even walk on my property and 4 didn't return my call. So I called this company, the lady who took my information told me Steve would be out within an hour. Steve arrived in less then an hour, dressed nicely and very professional. He had to crawl under my house to figure out what was going on, which he did without any issues. It appears my issue isn't with plumbing but with an HVAC issue. I called Preferred Plumbing to fix a sink drain plug, bath tub valve, and a small drip in the master bathroom. The guy came and fixed the sink drain plug for $400 which is expensive and tub valve for $500. He did not fix the shower but did make it much worse for a cost of $500. He said it needed a new cartridge, valve, and shower head. He did not have any of the parts so had to visit the store and of course I paid for his time to get the parts. He came back, installed everything and it started heavily leaking. I called them again to fix it and now I am waiting for them to return. I have a few homes and rental properties and so far these folks have been a nightmare. The phone staff is extremely courteous and professional and has assured me they will send a more experienced plumber. I will post again to see if they actually resolve the issue. The Modesto office is one of three core branches that Preferred Plumbing uses to cover the EastBay, Central Valley and Sacramento. I used the Modesto Office for Tracy, CA and will NEVER use this company anywhere, anytime for any price. 2 hr assignment was incomplete after 8 hrs. I wish I saw all the bad reviews on Yelp before a called them. Let's get down to it: they were nice, appeared very service oriented, but very incompetent plumbers onsite. I thought they were a plumbing company but seem more like a dispatch unit that hires local independents or contractors that underdeliver..... Don't believe me.... read the OTHER reviews in the greater area: East Bay, Sacto, and Central Valley. 1. Plumber was 45 minutes late to appointment. I had reminded vendor 30 minutes prior, and called the day before to set appt, and explain problem. 2. Vendor Asked for $135/hr for an inspection, I had thought it was a free estimate.. I negotiated that down, and bundled it in a set price for the job which was estimated at about 2 hours. Overall bundled price seemed fair. 3. Vendor had no step-stool or ladder for work to be done through the ceiling. (I Had advised about the job) 4. Vendor had no professional knife or electric knife to cut through sheet rock ceiling. Used a razor blade to open peep hole. 5. Client did not cover my Washer/Dryer machines he sat and stood on during the job. Result: complete wet mess of droppings and sheet rock, and dirt to be cleaned up. He even sat on my shelf at one point. 6. Vendor used a "pen light" or very small flashlight to scope leak and do the work (soddering, etc..). No lantern used to illuminate the 2nd floor for complete inspection or active work and review. 7. Vendor had no bucket for water pipe drainage/drips.soddering dropings, etc......we used our kitchen pots and pans for him, no kidding, since he was not prepared. 8. Vendor cut, soddered and replaced pipes at least 3 times back and forth, failing to stop leak, then additional leaks. 9. Vendor went back and forth to hardware shop 3 times to get parts. Last time was for 45 minutes. 10. 5 hours into the job, I called Modesto Mgr concerned Vendor is not skilled to do or complete job. He reassures me he is competent and not to worry. I called him again a few hrs later, just after 5pm, and he had left for the day. Was hoping he might check in to see how the job was progressing. He may have with the plumber, but not me. 11. 3 hours later, Vendor was still working on job 8 hours into assignment, with no clarity upon completion. 12. Vendor was fired at the 8 hrs mark, and told to leave so I could take my family out to dinner, since the water is shut off, and not usable. 13. My family used public restrooms that evening and morning before work and school, and did not shower until after replacement plumber saved us the next day. Preferred Plumbers work was still leaking. 14. Modesto manager called me. Phone call not returned. 15. Main office called me asking about service, told them a small fraction of above, and we ended the call politely. Not expecting to hear from them again, and dont want to. Again, nice and pleasent folks there, but the onsite experience was unacceptable for a professional plumber. 16. Felt obligated to post this honest review. read more

My hot water tank was leaking so I called these guys out for an estimate.. The guy came out within the hour, says we needed a new tank.. I ask how much... He says $3600 to $3800.. I told him he was crazy.. I ask how much is for the tank and how much for labor.. He says @ 2k for tank and $1600 for labor.. I tell him I can buy the tank at Home Depot for $1100 (75 gal tank) and it shouldn't take more than 2 hours max to install it. So I told him he could leave. I then called my propane company that also does installs. Paid them $1300 total (tank and labor) on Xmas eve. Would Never think of calling preferred plumbing again. read more

Dave was absolutely great. I had him quote a water line for a new fridge and a gas line for a new stove. He was the third I had quote, I always get three quotes when I have the time. Like the rest, he climbed into the crawl space to inspect for the quote. He was the only one to inform me that there already was a gas line roughed in for a stove, just capped off in the wall. Good thing the office called us to confirm. First the tech was nice, but then he locked his keys in his car. He had to go to Home Depot to get the one part he needed because the store he needed to get the parts from was closed. He was gone for over an hour. Then he gets back works for 10 minutes and wants to charge us for an extra 30 minutes. When he was all done I was charged for the parts and all he did was reuse what I already had under my sink. My home warranty company chose these flakes for me after my hot water heater went out. Day one, they made an appointment for 7PM, but never showed up. I called back and was told the tech wasn't answering his phone, so they didn't know what to tell me. I made a new appointment for 10 am the following morning. Day two, no show for 10 am appointment. They called back and said to give them an hour hand a half. Finally at about 4 PM they showed up, confirmed the obvious that I needed a new hot water heater, and made a new appointment for 9am the next morning. Day three, no show at 9AM. After 11, I called and was told he should be here any minute. a few minutes later, they call back and say its more like an hour and a half. Joe, Sal and Frank came out to our house and dug up all the pipes that led from our house to the city line and replaced them. The pipes were old and collapsing and almost flattened. They replaced the pipes with new ones and got everything running. They did a great job and we got our plumbing back. read more

Alex kept me informed on what he discovered and how he was going to resolve the issue. Once the task was done we did some test runs to ensure the plumbing issue was resolved. Big mistake! after he took the shower apart he changed the price to $750. That I could either pay or Be left with no water in the whole house. I had no choice but to pay. I called again.They offered a fix at another $300 and refused to take responsibility for a job not done properly.. Look elsewhere! Only money matters to this company. I have been using Preferred Plumbing and Drain for many years. They have always been there in a timely manner and have always completed any of my plumbing issues quickly and efficiently. Because of the size of the building I manage, I have had many plumbing issues that may happen any time of the day or night. Even when called at late hours, the plumbers always show up on the time they have indicated to me that they are going to arrive, and have gone out of their way to take care of the problem in an efficient and timely manner. They always go above and beyond and they are respectful and courteous to the tenants in my building. They always clean up any mess that is made from any plumbing leaks and are efficient in explaining exactly what they are doing and how they are doing it.
