Present is my go-to restaurant when taking friends out to introduce them to Vietnamese cuisine. Present has friendly staff and nice atmosphere with nice lighting. Suggest skipping the usual appetizers like spring or egg rolls (though they do a different wrapping on their egg rolls). Order the Treasure from the Sea which is jumbo shrimp served on a bed of Vietnamese salad inside half a pineapple. Or for something different, order the Rainbow White Clouds which is steamed rice cake served with dried shrimp and crunchy toppings. Most Vietnamese dishes are served with sauce made from fish sauce, water, lemon and sugar. Not fishy at all so definitely apply liberally or dip into. Can't go wrong with any of their appetizers. For main courses, suggest family style dining and order several dishes for everyone to share. I always order the traditional Vietnamese soup (not pho) Canh Chua which is Vietnamese version of sweet and sour served with either shrimp or fish with bean sprouts, tomatoes and other vegetables. If you like shrimp, order the Shrimp in the Fresh Ocean which is jumbo prawns sautéed crisp with salt and black pepper and also served in a pineapple bed. Their Shaky Beef while good is cut into smaller sizes than I like. Highly recommended is their fried rice with shrimp and jumbo crab meat. Great selection of drinks and definitely offer the traditional Vietnamese iced coffee if any of your guests have never tried it before. Stronger than Starbucks and usually served with condensed milk for a great taste. I prefer to go with big groups so we can order more dishes to try. The first time we had tried Present was about 8-9 years ago around the time that we were married, and we would still talk about how amazing the food was till date. Tonight we decided to revisit this restaurant in honor of Valentine's day weekend in an attempt to revive some of those memories. The staff has always been friendly, and they have maintained their restaurant per COVID standards. But that is where the positive experience ended for us. The fried calamari appetizer was cold. The grilled chicken noodle bowl was simply OK. But the duck in orange sauce was absolutely terrible. We were surprised as it came to our table way before the grilled chicken noodle bowl as we thought fresh duck should take much longer to cook. The duck tasted gamey, old and frozen; it was tough, rubbery and chewy. And the "orange" sauce was a thick, gelatinous processed unrecognizable substance. Maybe they were having a bad night, but if something isn't fresh, it shouldn't be offered. Unless something is changed in terms of food quality, we won't be returning to this establishment. It had good flavor. I especially enjoyed the crunchy shrimp bits. Also tried the papaya salad with beef jerky. I've never had this dish with beef jerky and it was excellent. Plenty of choices so we decided to go family style. We were a party of 6. We started with spring rolls, we went with the steamed and the fried versions. Both were great but I preferred the fried. Let me start by saying, we had a lot of good memories from a meal we had around 8-9 years ago at this restaurant. Me and my wife have been talking about it over the years, as we have been away from the area. Now, finally that we are back in the DMV, we decided to go back and relive some of those moments. To start, the place is following really good COVID practices, and people were seated quite far from each other. The staff is very friendly and professional, and attentive to your needs. Unfortunately, that's where the positive feedback stops. The food was just average, left a lot to be desired. The duck was supposed to be crispy, was chewy & soggy. The orange sauce tasted pre packaged. The calamari was OK, but under seasoned, not fully crispy. And the wife's Vermicilli bowl was also average, with over cooked noodles. We used to rave about this place to our friends and have recommended it to quite a few people, but after today's experience, that has changed. The food here is amazing and probably one of the best Vietnamese restaurants in the DMV area. I don't give 5 stars very often! I go with my colleagues to try a new restaurant every month, and this one was suggested to me by one of my colleagues. The restaurant is more upscale and had a nicer decor than most Vietnamese restaurants I've been to. There was even a nice koi pond with a water fountain. It felt very zen. I'm sure it's a nice attraction to keep little children occupied. There is also patio seating and a bar which I'm sure gets used regularly on a lovely Fall or Spring day. We ordered a handful of appetizers and entrees to share so that we could sample everything. I love that each appetizer and entree has a creative and unique name. Of everything we tried, my favorites which I highly recommend are: -Appetizer: #4 - Rainbow White Clouds -Entree: #15 - Golden Crepes -Entree: #46 - Shrimp Ocean -Entree: #66 - Calling the Mountain Dew Drops Multiple servers were bringing food out to us and clearing our table. Is this the best Vietnamese restaurant in NOVA? I think so. It's extremely deliciously good and worth the trip/time. For a place that's not a random quick pho joint, the prices, atmosphere, interior decor, and the service is superb! Were the owners like, "what's a something everyone loves especially in America? Presents!" Then they aptly named the joint Present Restaurant? Probs. Dishes you should not miss out on are: 1) Bò lúc lac (marinated beef tenderloin tips shaken in high flames on top of fresh lettuce and sliced onion) 2) Cha giò re (silken shawl imperial autumn roll) 3) Bánh bèo (steamed rice cake in shallow cup topped w/dried shrimp served w/sweet fish sauce) These will surely not disappoint! I like how the menu is Americanized with lots of pictures and has clever names (I know, it's just marketing, but still) like Bò lúc lac is called "Cow on the open field." I love hole in the wall restaurants, I have a spreadsheet of Eden Center (best thing to eat at a particular shop) that I use to take friends on foodsploration tours. But I try to avoid the fancier Vietnamese places because 1) I'm cheap and 2) why tho when the small shops are so goooood? Yet here I am, eating at Present, which is a gorgeous restaurant in an unassuming strip mall. It's lovely inside, the menu is hella extensive, and holy fuck the food is delicious. Prices are only slightly more expensive than my usual go tos, and have I mentioned that the food is crazy delicious? Also, order the iced coffee. It is incredible. There is something different about the flavor, like there is chocolate or something in it. It tastes different, and it's not hideously sweet. I could drink a couple of glasses without getting sick of the flavor. Don't forget to order the ban xheo and the calamari. Present is a slightly more upscale Vietnamese restaurant compared to most of the other restaurants at Eden Centre. For food we started with the spring rolls with shrimp and pork (GỎI CUỐN-#1). On balance I think these were larger and fresher than most of the alternatives in the area. We also had Present's Yellow Noodle Soup (MÌ PRESENT -#25) and Sophisticated Golden Chicken (CÀ RI GÀ- #33). The soup was tasty and well portioned with similar amounts of shrimp pork and noodles in comparison to some of the cheaper alternatives at Eden. The CÀ RI GÀ, a curry based dish with chicken and root vegetables. This was the greater disappointment for me. It was light on heat and curry and I ended up having to spit out various herbs, chicken gristle etc. It could have used with a bit of a straining before serving to me. It was not untasty, but I did expect more flavor and it was akward to have to keep spitting out food I couldn't/shouldn't chew or swallow. The overall service and atmosphere of the restaurant has more polish than other Vietnamese restaurants we've visited. Staff were friendlier and more attentive. This may be a better choice for a date or entertaining friends if they care more about appearances and looking for less chaos that you often find at Eden. The total price for a soft drink, a beer, large noodle soup, and main dish with tax and 20% tip is about $60. We may try again to see if we can land on the right dish. While not a bad experience, it would take some convincing (by finding the right dishes) for us to become regulars. read more

BLUF: service was friendly and good. The food was a definitely mixed bag. Don't recommend the veggie dishes. Went here is part of a party of four on a Sunday. We ordered a variety of food, half of them vegetarian half of them duck-based. In short, the vegetable ones were very lacking in flavor. We found ourselves getting some chili sauce from someone else to put on the food and also even mixing in some the peanut sauce. It's a shame because it certainly looked good. I can't remember the exact name of the dishes but both of them contained eggplant. In terms of specifics, the papaya salads were quite tasty and very generous size. The calamari appetizer was delicious. It came on a bed of lettuce which normally you would dismiss as just being decorative to carry the calamari, but the salad itself was actually very good. If you get it be sure to put one piece of calamari and then a fork full of the salad on your fork at once to get the full experience lol. All the spring rolls we tried were quite tasty as well. I got the duck in tamarind sauce and it was amazingly good and came with some nice steamed broccoli. I would recommend however getting a side of rice with it because it tastes better If you put the meat in the broccoli with some rice. For all the entrees, they were cucumber and tomato slices which again you would think were pure garnish. However in this day and age given how much fresh veggies cost I wasn't about to just ignore them. That said, they were incredibly fresh and very tasty. Go ahead and chow them down. I would have given a four for the duck dishes and a two for the vegetable based dishes, so I'm rounding the rating to a three. read more

She was attentive, helped us pick out entrees that went well with each other, and checked in on us often. we really enjoyed our meal because of her. The food was absolutely delicious. Good, not great food and service was kind of slow considering there were only 4 tables with people at them. I ordered Vietnamese Coffee which was shaken then poured over ice at the bar. I much prefer it when they set up the French drip coffee at the table and let it pour into a cup which you can pour into the glass of ice yourself. The coffee I got was even sweeter than usual, they must have used a ton of condensed milk or they added extra sugar. Ok, but not great. I ordered Cha Gio/Spring Rolls and Mian Xao Cua/Cellophane noodles with crab meat. The Cha Gio was overcooked and bland and the nuoc mam couldn't save it. Not a good dish. The Mian Xao Cua looked good, served in a bowl of cabbage leaf. But it was very mild, almost bland. I had to ask for nuoc mam and chili paste to liven it up. All in all, a decent meal, but not the best Vietnamese in Falls Church. Spellcheck is definitely not your friend if you are trying to spell Vietnamese dishes correctly.... read more

I've passed by Present numerous times and finally decided to give it a try. I wanted to take my parents to a nicer Vietnamese restaurant and the reviews suggest so. Upon entering, I noticed how beautiful the inside of the restaurant is. It has a gorgeous fountain and the ambiance felt very cozy. I enjoyed the Imperial Autumn Roll -- it was super crispy and the inside fillings were flavorful. Basking in the Summer Sun was an interesting dish because they set a fire underneath the dish in front of you -- quite a show! The beef in the dish was very good as well. I also ordered my standard Vietnamese dish -- the Crispy noodle with seafood. This dish was alright in comparison to the other dishes, it wasn't memorable to me. Unlike other Viet restaurants, the service at Present was awesome! Our waiter was very attentive of us, always checking back in and offering refills. One thing to note is that the prices are also higher than other Viet restaurants, but the quality of the food and the service makes up for it. read more

Went here last month after seeing this place listed among the 100 best restaurants in Washingtonian magazine. It was good, but honestly, I've had much better Vietnamese food and for less money too. The names for the dishes are kind of interesting and creative and we had fun chuckling at al the descriptive names. The service was decent and they brought the food out rather fast and the ambience ok too. But beyond that, I can't say it was anything special. It didn't live up to the hype. read more

No. 2 was like a Vietnamese version of Korean BBQ, and the dish was on fire, literally. Dish 3's not for the meek! It's made with coagulated pigs blood so I hope you're adventurous. It's honestly some of the best noodle soup I've ever had so you should just give it a try regardless of the non-traditional ingredients. Who knows, you may end up loving it =P Dish 4's on there because who doesn't love a solid duck dish! Anddd last but not least, Mosaic Pathway's like a Vietnamese japchae (traditional korean noodle dish) but yummier. ...I feel comfortable saying that because I'm Korean, haha! Our waitress still upsold us on their specialty appetizer, but the autumn rolls were just okay-- pretty to look at and moist filling, but the meat inside was a little bland. The Cow on the Open Field was good (4S wins over this dish for flavor and tenderness of meat), but the Open Field In The Sunset edged it out to be the winner of the night: multiple fillets of tender fish, variety of veg and fragrant aromatics, light but reasonably tasty broth. All the Americanized names are cute, and the food hit the spot without having to wait in line at Four Sisters.
