I'm not a huge pretzel fan of any kind, but these are in a league of their own! We started with the garlic knots and chocolate bacon pretzel. Yes that's right...chocolate bacon pretzel. Sweet, salty, soft, chewy goodness all rolled into one delicious amazing pretzel! The garlic knots were amazing and garlicky---Gilroy, CA would be proud! (One improvement opportunity...the marinara for the garlic knots...it could definitely be better). We continued with the lunch order...a plain rolled pretzel beef hot dog, the philly steaksteak on a pretzel bagel, the favorite on the pretzel focaccia, and the 5 meat combo on the pretzel focaccia. The focaccia bread was light and super flavorful and my daughter LOVED her wrapped hot dog. It was HUGE,so we all had a bite and would have been perfectly happy with that for lunch. Three and a half stars. Our last adventure was traveling out to Frederick, Maryland in search of the rare green gem. The three Yelper Musketeers ventured out after a long day of work. Arriving in picturesque Frederick, I was reminded of the small town charm that Frederick holds. We entered Pretzel and Pizza Creations and were warmly greeted by the servers behind the counter. There was a variety of ice cream flavors to chose from. They were kind enough to allow us to sample tastes before we ordered. The ice cream was creamy and rich. I had large chunks of toffee candy in mine. We also ordered the complimentary pretzel. I thought the pretzel was good, but nothing special. Next time, I would have chosen the salty pretzel, instead of the sweet one. I savored my ice cream,enjoying every spoonful. We carried our precious green gems out to the car, thankful to have made the trip. The saga of the three Yelper Musketeers had reached our fourth and final destination. read more

Do you want a hot dog bun disguised as a pretzel? Then this is your spot. This is only for the pretzels, I didn't try the pizza. I'm the offspring of two Philly natives, so when it comes to pizza, hoagies, cheesesteaks and soft pretzels, we don't dick around. A friend and I made a pit stop to Frederick to check out Volt, which was only doing bar service by the time we made it, so we checked out this place instead. We ordered two butter/salt, a cinnamon sugar and a peanut-stuffed pretzel. Also a cheese dipping sauce. There was zero of that pretzel tug, that sheen--you know, when the outer bread skin sticks to your teeth while you're on your way in to the either less-resistant, pillowy (or dry-and-in-immediate-need-of-a-soda-chaser) inside. Either is passable in my book. In addition, the cheese sauce was of movie theater pedigree and the peanuts tasted poisonous. I'm not a regular Frederick-goer, but I see places like this pop up a lot in Old Town Alexandria, Arlington and D.C. A cute idea without the product to back it up and somehow stays afloat, whether due to a lack of competition or the local natives drinking the neighborhood Kool-Aid. I would like to preface this review by stating that I love Pretzel & Pizza Creations, cross my heart hope to die I really do. I am self admittedly new to the wonderful discovery of pretzel dough as pizza/calzone dough and it did blow my mind. Every time I go back and try something else/something new I am pleasantly surprised. So imagine my excitement knowing that my night of a drink (or two, or seven) on Market St. would come to a glorious end by means of a pretzel. Does it get better?!? I didn't think so. But imagine my disappointment when after waiting in line I discovered I had one option: pizza and two choices: pepperoni or cheese. Bu-bu-bu-BUT I was looking forward to this!!! I understand the need for a limited late night menu, but I don't think it would be too much for the PRETZEL & pizza place to add some pretzel options on there. Maybe just one or two. That and the staff seemed impatient and rude, I get it the majority of your interactions are with slightly inebriated people, and that can be annoying. This place is super but I do agree with the previous review that this place has a silly name. Forget the name, the food is great and it shouldn't stop you from going there. There is a very nice room in the back to eat at and they have not only the news on, but also free Internet to Yelp! on! Bored with all of that, well then grab a board game and challenge your friends. I would suggest the chicken pesto sandwich, the rodeo pizza, or the peperoni calzone. I also really like the pretzel dogs, gross? Who cares I love how they taste! Last night I went here for dinner with my boyfriend and his best friend.. I was very disappointed In service but enjoyed the food. The lines were long and when it was my turn to order the lady at the register skipped over me multiple time. I kept trying to order and she would just keep asking other people. It took me fifteen minutes to get to order after I waited in like for 25 minutes. When I got my food it was warm and served exactly how I ordered it. It may have been poor service however the finamial food makes up for the poor service. They are very clean and have extremely clean restrooms as well. I would go here again but not a Friday night because of the lines and the service issues. read more

I love this place! You go in and though it was pretty warm when we first enter (I guess that's where the oven is), you are hit with the smell of sweet dough cooking in the oven and I am not one to turn away from that. I love the smell of bread being cooked. Everything made with pretzel dough is a good thing =) We ordered the cheese steak calzone and the chicken pesto pizza and both were really delicious. I loved that the dough was fresh and they gave it to us right out of the oven (or at least, I think it was right out of the oven). The dough for both was soft. The dough had a slight sweetness to it not unlike the plain auntie anne's pretzel but very fresh. Loved both dishes! Slightly crispy on the outside, but oh so soft and buttery on the inside... one of the best that I've tasted. I came by here with my boyfriend because well we heard that they make pizza with pretzel dough - so why not? first, pretzel dough is sweeter than normal dough, so if that's not your thing I don't recommend. however if you like sweeter pizzas like me, yay! so we ordered Hawaiian 16' pizza which is a lot - we totally miscalculated the size. we ended up eating only 5/8 (two people). the pretzels themselves are yummy, I like the cinnamon one! it's really big and very sweet. It's a late-night pizza joint, and there are a lot of expectations it fills within that label, but most impressively it has a surprising selection of beers. Not just overpriced Bud-family products like most late-night 'za places are likely to contain, instead a selection of Flying Dogs among other things. That's a winner. The pizza itself is pretty tasty, but nothing E.T. would phone home about. Very frustratingly, Pizza Pretzel does not serve pizza by the slice every night that it's open. THAT'S WHAT YOU'RE FOR! I want to rate the pizza and pretzels separately. For me the pizza crust is far too sweet for pizza and I didn't appreciate it at all. In fact I'm hoping Pistarro's offers good pizza because we haven't found decent pizza in Frederick yet. 4 stars for the pretzels. The pretzels are freshly baked and made to order. I just realized they stuff them too. I always get the Old Bay pretzel and my son gets the sugar and cinnamon. We are both in heaven. They are a perfect afternoon snack. I am in the food service industry. I have been in the business for 20+ years. I also have my ServSafe Certification (70 some hour class) and while I was here today I noted no less than 6 or 7 health code violations. For starters, the wiping rags were not stored in sanitizing solution. They were used to wipe and then left on the counter (two of which had "homes" infront of the preztel ovens. I also saw one of the cooks cut a sandwich and then wipe the knife on a dirty towel she had tucked in her apron. I then saw the same person take the cookie sheets that they bake with and set it on the trash can and wipe the crumbs into the trash with the rag, that wasn't in a sanitizing solution, into the trash can. There were several other issues like propping the front door open, cooks(and I struggle to call them cooks) not wearing any kind of hair restraint, not washing hands, not wearing gloves and the mop being left in the bucket instead of being hung up to air dry If you are going to run a food establishment that is 100% visible to the customer you better d*mn well have a spotless operation or people like me are going to notice. You are two doors down from Volt. Have a little more class or at least respect your customers enough to not get them sick. Oh..and the food? I've had better pretzels at Auntie Em's. read more

I usually get a pepperoni pizza or ice cream. I LOVE their pizza! The dough is like none other! After a night out, I always like to grab a slice or two to take home and enjoy. The dough is kind of sweet and it's amazing. I should probably try the other menu items, and I probably will later on. The slices are pretty large. Although, the price for a slice of pizza is on the higher side...but it doesn't really stop me! I will continue to come here. Wow, who knew there was so much you could do with pretzel dough! The fact that everything is made to order is really nice. I got a jalapeño cheese stuffed pretzel and to my surprise there was cheese in every bite! The wrapped hot dog was also better than expected, since it was so fresh and the toppings were added inside!! Genius. The pizza made with pretzel crust threw my kids for a loop, until they tried it. This place is deliciously fantastic. The amount of dishes these people can make with pretzel dough and staggeringly awesome. It gets pretty packed at night on weekends because the place is also an ice cream parlor, on top of being a busy lunch/dinner restaurant. The decor is right of the 90s, which is when it was established (1991). The servers are very friendly! I would highly suggest the pretzel calzones. Talk about wow factor. The dough is soft and rich with flavor, and the calzone bursts with its filling. Yelper Ben Y and I travel 40 minutes to get to this place just for the calzones. So yum. Another delicious meal today. I had the Ruben sandwich which was very good and my husband and son devoured a calzone. The only down fall was how long we waited for our food. It was busy and hard to even walk in the door, after waiting behind 4 parties we ordered and waited for a table. After sitting down we waited another 30 minutes for our two items. Seems like the wait was excessive for only these two items but as I stated above they were very good. I need to figure out a good time to go when they are not too busy, so many more items on that menu I want to try. read more

I went here last Sunday and ate in the back of the shop. Its so cozy and homey feeling. The ladies were so nice and even recommended the ones that were their favorites. I got a Turkey and Provolone Calzone and it was SOOO good! My boyfriend and his mom got the Ruben Calzone and it was AMAZING! i totally recommend this place. It cost $9.00 per calzone but it was as big as a plate and SO worth it! So go check it out! They also have ice cream! :) read more

Wow! Pizza made with pretzel dough? Yes, please! Their pizzas are so delicious! The dough tastes like a soft pretzel. Pizza and soft pretzel? What a great combination! I tell all my non-local friends about this place and they all want to come eat here with me. I've also had one of their pretzel dogs, which are also delicious and HUGE! I got their homemade honey mustard to dip my pretzel dog in, and that was super tasty! I will definitely be coming back. The only drawback is finding a close spot to park since they're downtown on Market Street; a very busy street in Frederick. Be aware if you come here late on a Saturday night, you can only get pizza by the slice, and the line is usually out the door. I had very high hopes for this place, I love pretzels and pizza...it seemed like the perfect match!! We went there on Sunday 3/23/14. We had to wait right at the door for a long time before the line moved. The people working there moved at a snail's pace and every time someone came in or went out we had to move around since there's no room to move with the very narrow hallway you have to stand in. My wife started with the sweet pea and chicken soup -- it tasted sour and was inedible. About 30 minutes after we left my wife got sick, she believes it was the soup. I ordered the chicken pesto pizza and my wife got a chili dog. The pizza was very bland and only had flavor after I added crushed red peppers & salt. The only good part of the chili dog was the actual hot dog. All of the pretzel dough had a sweet taste to it -- and didn't pair well with anything. I don't know why they would add such a sweet flavor to their pretzel crust, for a non-dessert pretzel. The pretzel crust for the hot dog was very soft and a bit under cooked. the pretzel parts of our meal were just bad, they had a sweet taste and didn't have the outer hard "pretzel" crust -- which every other pretzel I've ever had in my life has. Eat here. The food is delicious. This review however, is for Sean (with no H). My friend and I went here 2 nights in a row and Sean was the only FOH worker both nights. Outdoor seating is available but we just wanted to grab food to go. We walk up and Sean is running around (literally ran down the street to let some customers know that their food would be ready shortly), efficiently taking care of multiple customers at different points in their dining experience. As he is walking some checks out to a table, he notes us walking up and is sure to let us know he'll be right with us. His situational awareness is 10/10. This dude embodies customer service. He takes our order, calmly fielding our questions about the menu and making personalized recommendations. All the while acknowledging other customers walking up. I'm impressed. He gets our names during checkout and lets us know they will text when the food is ready. We come back the next night and he welcomes us back, greeting us by name. Again, customer service PRO. I have a stuffed pretzel obsession, so I was very excited when my mom's friend happened to tell me about this place the day before I had to be in Frederick-town, anyway ... and got some three of my friends to try it with me. I'm sure no one in the world will ever agree with me on this (but this is about my taste, so what does what they say matter?), but for me the pretzel I got was way too huge. I am much more a quality over quantity kind of person. I thought sunflower seeds as a topping would be nice even though they offer it as a stuffing, was told I could get that and I did ... all over my plate. Even though they put butter on to keep the sunflower seeds in place, it didn't work. I'm not saying I'm that picky (though you might!), but I guess I'd rather have something that works and if something doesn't, I'd rather be told in advance and why. That would be helpful. Okay, so they didn't know and made an exception for me. I guess I should be grateful. The thing is, most of what they offer stuffed-pretzel wise is on the sweet side which is not what I wanted, so I was really searching for a topping that I thought would work with my chosen insides (nacho and jalapeno). I was told it would not be very spicy, and I have to say it was -- not only for me but my Phillipino-American friend (who eats spicy food!) as well. Okay, that was just the pretzel and a prelude to my real deal with this place: the oh-so-famed pretzel pizza. I don't even care how it tasted, truth be told. All I have to say that's important is: yuck. Why does the taste not matter? Because it sat like a lump in my stomach the whole subsequent sleepless night. I wasn't sure if it was just me and wondering, I asked another of my dining compatriots and was told he had gotten a stomachache, too. Good, late night pizza and beers in downtown Frederick. What more can I say? It's what you need when you need it. They have a sit down place inside to eat your slice, pepperoni or plain are the main choice. I'm sure you can order more, but we didn't. My slice was pretty cold, but you take what you can get - although it was only 10:30 on a Friday - warm wouldn't have been that crazy. We did not get the pretzels, although I hear they are amazing, so please ignore this review if that's what you're ordering. read more

This was one of my favorite places to eat for years. But they discontinued the veggie and provolone sandwich, which I got every. single. time. I tried to order it and was told they "don't do that anymore" and to instead try the calzone. But the calzone is very different from the sandwich, and I'm not sure why they removed it from the menu--it was 1 of only 3 vegetarian sandwiches they used to have.
