I got the Egg's Benedict w/ grits and toast. The Egg's Benedict was on point, and the best I've had in awhile. The grits were instant. Overall, I'm impressed with the food and would come back. I sat at the bar, and the service wasn't great. The waitress was nice, but barely came to the end of the bar. First of all I love the old retro looking diner! The menu is full of all choices of comfort food with breakfast served till close. Daily specials are good and come with a small dessert! Service is great and fast! Booths with an old soda bar and stools to sit on to watch the action behind the counter. Takes me back to when I went with my Grandparents to the old Woolworth cafes. We're in Corpus Christi dealing with an unexpected family emergency and required the clarity and certainty a hearty breakfast brings. Price's Chef delivered exactly that. I'm a two eggs, breakfast meat (sometimes sausage, sometimes bacon), hash browns and toast girl (though I especially like when the toast can be converted into a biscuit and that biscuit can have gravy). My partner is something of a connoisseur of chicken fried steaks and Price's iteration of this classic item was spot on, tying for first place with Shortcakes in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The wait staff and kitchen staff were good humored, sweet and attentive. We liked it so much we returned the very next day, ordering virtually the same menu items. This is often a dangerous move when you've enjoyed a meal--to return immediately and hope the experience is replicate-able--but again, Price's Chef delivered big time. My standard breakfast meal gave exactly what I needed and my partner's Chicken Fried Steak held it's tied place in first, chicken fried steak category. read more

In total honesty i've had very good experiences at this restaurant and some not. Today i decided to get take out which apparently they charge just for getting it togo.. Well i got a soup and the put it in a styrofoam plate and it spilled out! Almost half and the worst part is that they put that one soup plate on top of the other two plates. First off, look at my past reviews, I rarely rate any business poorly. I ordered the French toast combo which supposedly consisted of french toast, one egg and sausage. This actually was to small small small pieces of French toast, my guess is extra thin bread. One extremely small piece of bread cut in half and that was the extent of the French toast. French toast has traditionally been at least Texas toast size. It came with a choice of sausage, ham or bacon and I chose sausage. My guess is this sausage have been cooked several days ago, it was so hard you could've probably broke glass with it. I had to ask for it to be replaced and it was. But, a good waitress would never have served it to me seeing what I saw on my plate. The egg didn't have any yellow that I could see. The price $7.95 which was about seven dollars above what this dish was worth. I have eaten here several times in the past and was looking very forward to eating here again today. It was one of the worst experiences I've had in a restaurant in a long time and will never ever be back. I totally don't understand how It can have a good rating with my experience? read more

this is a great place if you are looking for decent food without the big chain name :) i used to go 2 twice a week in the mornings before heading to class at TAMU-CC. i loved the affordability, friendly staff and yummy food. you walk in and the place feels quaint. The best deals are the "specials" which is posted on a board. Waitress asked us what we wanted to eat and drink, brought it out and that was the last time we saw her. I had to search her out to find my ticket. Price's Chef is a local institution and has been here for a very long time. It's a "greasy spoon" by every possible measure and, if you didn't know the date, you'd think you were stepping into the 1970's. It's a real trip. The walls are lined with celebrity photos signed by folks who came and ate there at one point or another. The building is old and dated but it's clean and well-kept and the service is always friendly. Many of the staff have worked here for a long time and the faces are familiar. The food is all pretty much standard diner food and it's all fairly good. I don't come in here expecting finer dining but what you get is good food, a good atmosphere, and good times with friends. It's loud and noisy just like an old-school diner. There's a bar where you can eat if you're by yourself and want to face the kitchen and they have booths if you're in a larger group. The wait can be long at prime times and there isn't much space in the waiting area so folks often spill out onto the sidewalk. I like to come on Sunday and get the Turkey & Dressing special. I typically order one of the specials whenever I come in and it never fails to disappoint. The omelets are very good and they have a decent burger. On days when the hot dog is on special, give it a try if you like hot dogs...They're wonderful. There's only one toilet for men and one for women so waits for the bathroom can be long at times. That's about my only complaint but after coming here for years I've gotten used to it. read more

This place is AMAZING. We were just visiting Corpus Christi this weekend and decided to pop in for breakfast.. every morning we were there. The service was incredible, it had such an amazing feel and vibe to it. They've been open for 80 years! Not only was the staff extremely friendly, the other guests there were so nice too. I had a simple breakfast cause I'm a plain Jane, and the fiancé had a Western Omelette. These were the best hash browns i have ever had in my life, no exaggerations. The omelette was fluffy, the bacon on my plate was thick, and cooked to perfection. The chef brought us out a pancake with cooked bananas on top... oh my goodness. It was so delicious! And he was SO nice. The second time we went in it was packed for Easter Sunday so we took some omelettes to go to enjoy on the beach before heading back to San Antonio. Even to go the food was amazing. Alex and his mom really made us feel welcome with incredible service and food. If we are ever in Texas again we will definitely make the drive to come back here. What a fun place to stop for breakfast/lunch in downtown Corpus! It's a little shabby on the outside but don't let that stop you from going in to eat. It has been around since the 1940s and I can see why! The food was delicious. I went with a Reuben with onion rings while my boyfriend got the patty melt. We weren't feeling breakfast but another in our party let us try their pancakes and they were so delicious! Very fluffy but super filling. My Reuben was delicious. It came out a little slower than the rest of the meals for some reason but the wait was worth it! It was over done with too much sauce and was just greasy enough. The onion rings were okay but they needed a little extra kick of flavor. The decorations were nothing special but it was cool to see a wall dedicated to their loyal customers.
