Yeah. It's official. The best Indian food in Bakersfield is in Tehachapi. We took a fun drive up to Tehachapi the back way and found this gem right next to the truck stop. Often a good sign for Indian food in Central California. The Onion Pakoras were crispy and not greasy. The flavor of fresh turmeric was excellent. The Onion Kulcha was almost like a pizza. My favorite part though was they have goat! The Goat Vindaloo was amazing. Spicy and herbal. My wife's Goat Karachi was also great and a little more veggie forward. Service was fast and friendly. Pricing was actually quite good. This one is definitely worth the drive. We'll be back for sure. read more

We absolutely love this restaurant! It's become one of our favorites in town. The food is delicious and the staff are always so nice and welcoming. It's such a cozy atmosphere. We always get our food at a number 2 spicy level and it's perfect for us (not too hot but still has a nice kick). The tikka masala is amazing and we always get three cheese naan to dip into it. Their chai tea is delicious in winter especially next to their fireplace and in the summer, their refreshing lime soda is just sweet enough to satisfy and quench our thirst. This place is exceptional and the fact that it's in a small town makes it a gem. We had the Tiki Masala, Butter Chicken, rice and veggie Samosa's. We were craving for some Indian food and decided to give Prime Bar and Grill a try. Parking was no problem, there are plenty of spots outside the restaurant. It's a relatively new restaurant (opened in 2020 during pandemic). There's indoor as well as outdoor dining. Inside: the dining area is different and bar area is different. We were promptly seated in the dining area. The tables were spaced out, so it is easy to maintain distance esp during Covid. We ordered mango lassi, aloo cutlet, and Malai kofta. Aloo cutlet came with chana. Malai kofta was served with rice. The gravy was super yummy, koftas very luscious and tasty. All the dishes were delicious. We also ordered aloo paratha and mix veg parathas to go. It's Punjabi-style parathas, so it's pretty big, 1 was enough for 2 people. The owners are nice and very friendly. Overall great service, delicious and authentic Indian food. If you are in the area, give it a try. Would highly recommend it. Plenty of vegan and veg options. read more

The cauliflower was done perfectly. The sauce and crunchy veggies complimented it perfectly. The veggie biryani was very tasty with a good variety of veggies. The dal tadka with the black lentils was lovely. And the roti scooped up the dal nicely. Beer was on tap and served in a wonderfully chilled mug. Service was prompt and attentive. I was super excited to try this food, I love Indian food and Prime bar & Grill has amazing reviews. However, I'm just not sure why this place has 4.9 stars. I've tried a lot of Indian restaurants & this was my second to worst I've had. The food was okay. Mediocre at best, but my garlic cheese naan was completely burnt. (no exaggeration) the butter chicken was okay but lacking flavor. I was dissapointed. I expected it to be a bit pricey & was okay with that, as long as the food lived up to expectations! Unfortunately it didn't. I've had better Indian food from a food truck in ridgecrest, California. Which says a lot. read more

Mango chicken - so flavorful. Nice balance of savory and sweet 3. Chicken tikka masala - great flavor. Fresh. 3. Panner tikka masala - excellent 3. Samosas were beautifully cooked, great balance and freshness 4. Samosa chaat - okay, but there wasn't enough yogurt on it. 4. Malai Kofta - a little too sweet for our taste 5. Chicken vindaloo - bad. Didn't taste anything like vindaloo. Sauce was not cooked enough and only had chilis. The butter garlic naan was excellent. Rice was great. Lime soda was great. Also, the place could get loud, but nothing you can't handle. They ought to hang tapestries on the walls and drape them on the ceilings to absorb and soften sound. read more

My oh my! We're we ever surprised at our delightful and delectable experience at Prime Bar and Grill in Tehachapi. Especially since neither of us had ever eaten this type of cuisine. We ordered the Butter Chicken and Tika Masala. It was delightful and the portions were more than adequate. In addition we tried the garlic naan which was tasty. Service was excellent and very friendly. We got to sit by their lovely fireplace. Very comfortable. I would recommend this lovely place for anyone for a great dining experience. PS. Among the best Indian restaurants I've ever been to! FOOD: Malai Kofta (5 out of 5): This was among the best malai kofta I've ever had. The veggie balls were perfect, and the creamy sauce was full of flavor. Veggie Pakhora (5 out of 5): Perfectly crisp, and I really liked the tamarind sauce. Fish Pakhora (5 out of 5): Crisp outside, and very soft and flakey fish on the inside. Spiced very well. Lamb Vindaloo (4.5 out of 5): Tender chunks of lamb in a deep and rich dark curry. Mixed Grille (4.5 out of 5): An assortment of meats sizzling hot on the cast iron platter. The lamb and Salmon were my favorite. Comes with a creamy tomato-based sauce for dipping, similar to malai kofta sauce. Shrimp Biryani (4 out of 5): I personally tend to go for the curries, but this was an excellent biryani. My friend said, "it's good Indian for Tehachapi" but that's selling it short. It's good Indian food, period! The tandoori, tikka and naan were great! They also have American foods like burgers and Mac n cheese for kids. There's a full bar so order whatever drinks you want. Good service and a nice environment. read more
