Prime Pizza is the place that started it all for me. I've been to all the Prime locations, except Fairfax. Unfortunately, I have had really inconsistent experiences with Prime lately, particularly from their Little Tokyo spot. These experiences compounded, and eventually soured my perception of their brand. They recently had a promotion, which enticed me to finally try their new Altadena location. Upon arrival, I could not help but smirk. It instantly reminded me of the Burbank location (can't believe I drove all the way to Burbank for Prime Pizza back in the day lmaooooo). Horny CRE agents can start spamming Prime now 'cause it seems they have a type: medium traffic oddball intersection with an afterthought of a parking lot. I wonder how often the parking layout changed with each City Planner. Lol. The staff were all very courteous and competent. Even so, I was so ready to be disappointed when I got home. But with one bite, the nostalgia instantly took me back to 2017 when I first had Prime Pizza. Damn, Prime Pizza still got it. They really still got it even with all the new competition. Great chew, great sourdough kick. The drive was quite pleasant as well. My road rage did not activate. I might even order regular sauce next time instead of light sauce as regular sauce + road rage = soggy pizza. Squares are still where it's at. Imo, rounds here are a waste of time. read more

Came here to support Altadena. Got the kids single slices and order a full pizza for the adults. The cashier said it would be 20 minutes. 40 minutes later we still didn't have the full pizza, went to check and they said it had been in the rack sitting for 15 minutes. They offered to make a new one but at that point we don't have another 30 minutes to wait for food. We were refunded, but shorted. I left a 20% tip on an $80 bill, should have gotten some of that back too. All the workers seem stoned and not very friendly. The kids cheese pizza was ok, but that's not hard to do. Garlic knots were 6/10 and churro knots were chewy and hard to bite 3/10. read more

They gave me burned pizza for $32. I ate as I was super hungry but I could not take it. Mushroom topping super salty and I could not find trace of basil. After 1 slice and as pizza gets cold it becomes hard and very chewy. I complained to the staff and they were trying to educate me that pizza was not burned, the mushroom is dark brown. With that response I was extremely unhappy and I asked for refund and they gave me. I had placed huge order for an event last year. It was not best. Definitely one of the best pizza spots in the SGV! My favorite are their square slices, especially the Sicilian. We also got the meatball sub, and it was delicious! The sub's toast was super light but crunchy at the same time, and had the perfect ratio of mozzarella to meatball. Their pizza slices are the closest I've tasted to classic New York style slice, as they are able to balance the flavor of the slice with the texture of the bread really well, while keeping the thin crust. I finally got to try this new and acclaimed pizza spot, and it lived up to the hype. Stopped for a quick lunch, and love that they do pizza by the slice. I got the 2 slices & a drink, and my husband got the meatball sub. The bread on the sub was delicious and lots of meatballs but could definitely use more cheese. He could only eat half! I got a triangle slice of cheese, and it was delicious. Perfectly crunchy. The square slice was amazing! Loved that crust, and the crunchy cheese on the edge. I also liked the descriptions of the slices at the location. They weren't available on the online menu. I took photos of most of them, for you to see. The fresh brewed ice tea was also delicious. We sat outside, and it was very pleasant. As soon as our order was ready, they brought it outside to us. Also, it was after the lunch rush on a weekday so parking and seating were no problem. Lately, I've been on the hunt to find one of the best authentic NYC style pizza in Pasadena and LA. After seeing this online I definitely had to stop by and try it for myself. Food: I came here with the family and ordered the large pepperoni and cheese pizza and Bolognese pasta. The pizza: Came in a thin crunchy bottom which was amazing I really enjoy having a crunchy not burned bottom pizza. The red sauce and cheese was a perfect balance. Yo too things off the pepperoni was a decent amount and large size. It wasn't too salty at all. I must say it's one of the best pizza I've had in a long time. The Bolognese pasta came in a smaller tray that couldn't easily feed two people. The pasta taste like it was homemade which is a plus and if I can have it my way I wish it came in a bigger tray. It was the perfect pairing with our pizza. Staff/restaurant/parking Staff: We came in on a Saturday night for dinner, they had plenty of friendly staff that greeted us and was very helpful. They took the time to answer all questions and recommend popular items on their menu. Restaurant: It's an outdoor eating with cafeteria style wooden benches and had Edison lights hanging overhead. It felt cozy and warm they actually do have several heat lamps for those cold nights. Parking: They have a small parking lot but there's plenty of parking down the street for in the residential area. If you go during daytime you'll have no trouble finding one. Bonus: This is for parents with infants and toddlers. They actually do have a baby changing station and have courtesy baby wipes and diapers from size 4-5 which is really nice of them to do. Conclusion: I would definitely come back and give them another try and looking forward in trying their other types of pizza. I've gone here like 7 times in 2 months, and 6 times out of that 7 they just can't seem to get it right. We keep asking for the pizza to be well done/crispy and they do the exact opposite, I'm talking soggy. Last time they were very nice and remade the pizza, which now we have to sit and wait around longer, then they completely burned that one but ok we will let it slide. They were very generous and gave me a credit on top of it for the next one. Now we go again for the next one and I said WELLLL DONE. They brought out a very cold, completely opposite to well done pizza, like it wasn't even cooked regular. What are you guys doing honestly? It's not that hard to cook a pizza well done, that doesn't mean burn it black and it doesn't mean soggy, a little crisp, we know it's not gonna be perfect but why on earth are you doing it less cooked when we ask well done, you're going in reverse. TELL THE COOK TO LISTEN TO THE CUSTOMERS REQUEST. Well done means well done, people like pizza crispy not soggy and almost raw. Prime Pizza has really been expanding quite a bit recently huh? They have seemingly doubled their location count in the last year, with the latest location in Altadena of all places. Seemed like the perfect time to try this location on a football Sunday! Although I do have a penchant for their white pizzas, on this occasion I went with the Supreme with added ricotta. Gotta have ricotta as it always makes every pizza better. The quality was as I expected. It ain't ever gonna be on the level of New York for New York-style pizza, but it's pretty damn good New York-style pizza for L.A. Very crispy and thin with quality ingredients. It is a bit on the expensive side, but you're definitely getting your money's worth in terms of quality. Staff here are really friendly! Came in, let them know I had a pickup order, and was out in two minutes. Only thing I was slightly annoyed about was that I had set a pickup for 1:15 pm and it was ready 10 minutes earlier than that. Had to warm up the pizza in the oven, but it is what it is. Prime Pizza always delivers and this location is no different! They have a great outdoor seating area as well, so I would definitely love to stop by and eat here when the opportunity presents itself. read more

A buddy who worked on Wall Street highly recommended Prime Pizza and said it was as good as the pies back in NY. With that type of recommendation, I headed up to Altadena the next day to check it out myself. Placed an order for 3 pies and made the quick 10 min drive up. Didn't realize Prime was just down the street from another buddy's house. The parking lot is kinda small and only offers a handful of spots. However, there should be street parking nearby. Was lucky and snagged the last spot and headed inside. Had to wait a few extra minutes which was cool as I could see them baking 2 of my pies. For those that order individual slices, they happily reheat them in another oven off to the side. Sausage round pie - Definitely lives up to the hype. Though it's been a few years since I've been back to NY, this was damn tasty. Added garlic which elevated the overall taste in my opinion. Grandma square - Another great pie and probably will skip the basil next time. The crust was flavorful and had nice crispy edges. Spicy pep - Also added garlic to this which was great but damn it was hella spicy. Perfect for those than can take the heat but a bit too spicy for me. As others have mentioned, these pies need to be eaten hot. The slices were even tastier the next day after reheating in our Balmuda. They sell by the slice or by the whole round/square, and you can do half and half which is a great way to try multiple options! Prime Pizza is a good solid pizza joint! I've been wanting to try them at some of their other locations, but glad to have finally tried them at this location. My fave is the white pizza and the spicy pep square pizza. You definitely cannot go wrong with either one of these! Prices are reasonable and they're pretty large, so it'll be able to fill you up. They have some really cool merch available too that are Altadena specific. If you come on a weekend, you can grab your coffee (Bevel Coffee currently has a pop-up here) and grab some pizza right when they open at 11AM making for a perfect start to your weekend. read more

Great variety by the slice. Should keep the seasonal heirloom tomato pie on the menu full time. Location specific issues at the Pasadena location...Pizza is dry; not enough sauce! While perusing the pizza case, numerous fresh hot pizzas were brought out & placed on chefs racks directly across from the pizza window. It was frustrating to see fresh piping hot pizzas just sitting on racks while the pizza being sold was the old cold pizza in the pizza window that had to be heated a second time before serving. I ate my slices while watching the fresh out of the oven pizza pies just sitting & getting cold. This was a sacrilegious act to me as it was so wrong on so many levels. read more

I've been a loyal customer for years and regularly order the Vegan Spicy Pizza with light Calabrian chilis--a simple request they've always accommodated. Unfortunately, on May 24th, I was told they could no longer make any changes due to a corporate policy requiring two scoops, and that if there's no button for it in the system, they won't do it. I asked to speak with the manager, Andrew, and the interaction was incredibly frustrating. He interrupted me several times while I tried to explain that the full portion of chilis makes the pizza so spicy it's not edible. I told him that if it came out that spicy again, I'd likely ask for a remake. His response? "That would be fine." Instead of trying to help resolve the issue, he disappeared into the back and returned 15 minutes later to tell me he had decided to make the pizzas with one scoop--not because we came to an understanding, but just because he chose to. He also said the company is fine with customers requesting remakes rather than allowing basic customizations. That logic makes no sense--it wastes food, time, and leaves loyal customers feeling ignored. James's customer service was poor--his tone was rude and dismissive, and he showed little willingness to listen or help. When the pizzas finally arrived, they weren't vegan. I brought this to their attention, and the staff took the pizzas back to remake them. Honestly, I was surprised they accepted the pizzas back, since that seems unsanitary. They apologized, remade the pizzas, and comped the order, which I appreciated--but the entire ordeal took over an hour. And for reference, the two pizzas cost $86. While we were waiting, another customer nearby said he was upset they wouldn't let him remove parsley from his pizza--so this inflexible policy clearly affects more than just us. To be fair, the pizza itself is absolutely delicious--some of the best I've had. But between the long wait, lack of flexibility, and lack of basic customer service, I'm not sure I'll be returning. Again, if I could give halves, this would be a 4.5 out of 5 We got a plain cheese for 23 and supreme for 30.. I think both pizzas were a reasonable deal, due to, they tasted great!! Order online and wait like Ten mins from when your pick time is, I order on a Friday and there was a long wait. I ordered at 625pm with scheduled pickup at 715 and my pizza wasn't ready until 735 but to me it was worth it. I got there at 720 so didn't wait long. Parking is good, even with so many people there and the staff was super nice!! Don't worry, I'm resourceful--I sprinkled my own chili flakes like a boss. Then, there's the veggie slice. I approached it like a detective trying to solve the mystery of "Can this place even handle vegetables?" The answer: Heck yes. Between the kale, mushrooms, and garlic, it was so good I didn't even miss the meat. (And if you know me, that's saying a lot.) I love a good pizza and I was hoping to love this too. But for me not this time. I had their gluten free. The positive was that it didn't taste bad or good , it was just ok. The negative was it was too oily, the dough was like rubber and I was questioning myself if this was gluten free cause the crust was too thick. Usually, gluten free crust is thinner. Giving this place a 4 star based only on the fact that the fam said the pizza was good. Just a heads up: their pizza can easily feed 4 adults. Finally found a gluten free crust that is soft and easy to eat! The only downside is if you put anything oily on it (pepperoni, extra cheese, etc.), the slices are very greasy. It is a small pizza with four square slices. The meatball sandwich is huge and very good. It is easily enough for two people. The non-gluten free pizzas are also very good. The price-point is a little high, but that is the case for everything at the moment. There is a cute little patio in the front that is perfect for a nice evening. It definitely has a family vibe, so don't give this a go if you are looking for a quiet or romantic evening. The only downside we found is the staff's attentiveness. One time we picked up things went well - food was ready on time, we were acknowledged as soon as we walked in, someone else made sure we were being helped while we were waiting, and the food came out hot. The second time we ordered delivery, which went fine (but, yikes, the extra charges were almost $30!). Our most recent visit we arrived 5 minutes before our pick-up time. We checked in and then after waiting half an hour, checked in again. We were told it was almost ready, but "almost ready" ended up being another 25 minutes. Meaning - our food was ready 50 minutes PAST our pick-up time. It was busy that night, but not crazy busy. One of the two pizzas was barely warm - we had to heat it up when we got home. We've tried out Prime a couple of times and will definitely be back, just hoping for an experience more like our first visit. read more

Solid pizza joint! As with all cool things that are new to Altadena, it's packed. Great add for the area, on a Thursday night, it was swarming with happy people enjoying their pizza. The staff was friendly despite it being obvious they were struggling to keep up with the demand. You'll have to place your order early. The patio is welcoming and was buzzing with families with their children and dogs. Seating is limited to the outdoor patio lined with picnic tables. Tried out their gluten free pizza and it's pretty good. Their gf pizza comes in squares of like 10" size and sliced into 4 squares. They have gluten free category, vegan category, and gluten free vegan category. So keep that in mind if you do order in particular to accommodate certain allergies. I ordered their gluten free vegan Grandma pizza and ordered with extra veggie medley (which consists of mushroom, garlic, red bell pepper, kale, radicchio) and extra sauce. The gf bread crust was not super thin and came saucy and dripped when i lifted it up - which is supposed to be. Please keep in mind that if you do have celiac - to consult with them. They have outdoor bench picnic style sitting with some shades/cover. There are few parking spots in their lot but not too many. Found parking on the street easily. read more

Came here cuz I saw Dave portnoy review it and say it was the best pizza he's had in LA (based on his preference). It was good, but I don't know if it's the best in LA. We tried the vegan cheese, vegan sausage and kale, and the chopped salad. The vegan cheese was recently changed from follow your heart to be hive. While the be hive pepperoni and sausage are delicious, sadly the cheese lacks any flavor. The sauce is tasty. The chopped salad comes with romaine, radicchio, kale, red bell pepper, cannellini beans, pepperoncini, celery, persian cucumber, and house-made italian vinaigrette & parmesan cheese on the side. Sadly part of what intrigued me was the cannellini beans in the sadly, but it had none and no one said we are out of beans when I ordered. I also wish there was a half size option. I'm glad this place exists but we'll be sticking to more tasty vegan pizza options in the area unless they change the cheese they are using. read more
