The food was good. The waitress who welcomed us was lovely. The problem we had was with our service. Maybe it was late in the eve and he was tired-but lackluster service by our waiter. They were out of a happy hour 5.00 item, so he suggested a crab salad 'to make up for the out of stock item' but failed to tell us it was 3 times the price! When we received our bill we asked about the discrepancy and he apologized...kind of...but did not adjust our bill at all... This was our first visit and because of this issue that should have been a simple fix, we probably won't return. When you run out of a food item and suggest another to 'make up' for it, you might want to communicate the 75 percent price increase? read more

I have never been more insulted in my life. I am 8 Months pregnant and was walking down 6th ave and needed to use the restroom. I asked politely if I may do so and was directed towards the back by nice hostess. I was also curious to look at restaurant as a suggestion for my staffs upcoming holiday dinner. A woman (owner?) followed me into the bathroom. As I had the stall closed during this personal time she made ahem sounds and banged. I came out and she was standing there with the door open and a man (cook?) was behind her monitoring me as though I was a criminal. He shrugged his shoulders and smiled, it was clearly her behavior that was degrading. She told me to go out of side door, nearly pushing up against me. Dinners smiled and gave nods ro the absurdity as I was leaving quitely. They could have said no at enterence. No one deserves to be treated this way, but to give context I am a largely pregnant elementary school teacher. Nothing in my demenor was a threat to the establishment and sometimes pregnant women need to pee. :) I was genuinely curious about this restaurant as well and our school hosts an annual holiday dinner for staff. We had discussed Primo as an option. I will be letting ny collegues know that a buisness in the habit of shaming people is one that we need to support. read more

My first restaurant that I used open table feature and I requested that brussels sprouts be on the table before I sat down. They weren't but they had them ready in less than five minutes. Not sure why Primo has slipped on the food quality. Me and some guests were there Monday. I had the pork chop, which seemed smaller and dryer than before. Normally I love it, but this time...not so much. The squash hash and veggies underneath were great, as was our starters and drinks. The peach/pear compote on top tasted from a can...maybe it was. Maybe they got some new folks on the grill who are learning. But the ho-hum food combined with the automatic 18% service charge convinced us we gotta find a new favorite place to take friends and family. We have been loyal to Primo way before they moved to their present location few years ago, but need to find another sweet spot. read more

Amazing! I was actually thinking this would be a Mediterranean place with things like gyros but this was Italian food. It was probably the best Italian food I've ever had. I had the fungi pizza which may have been the best pizza of my life. Ambiance was awesome, cool, hip, industrial, clean, with garage door windows open to give an outdoor feel of its a nice day. I've eaten here a dozen times and it's worth the drive from Portland. The entrees don't always hit the mark as a 5 star rating, but there are some choices that should be a six! If they have mussels, they are the best I've ever eaten. Tasting menus are creative and can be fantastic. This may sound like feint praise, but it is not. They do not serve the same old thing. It's never tired, nor pedestrian. The food always is prepared with thought, care and skill. read more

My husband and I rarely go out to eat. I cook, a lot, and we're very picky when it comes to food. We don't go to chains and we like locally sourced fresh seafood and vegetables/fruit. Primo Grill has all of that and more! Local shellfish, salmon, and local meats. All desserts are made on site and the pastas are fresh made, not dried. We love to sit at the cooks line where we can watch cooking theater and talk with the chefs. Charlie is the executive chef/owner along with Jackie who works the front of the house. It's friendly, fresh, and the food is the best! Tonight I had lamb chops with cous cous and grilled vegetables and my husband had fresh house made ricotta with local, wild leek ravioli. If I could give this a no star review I would. On the 24th of July, 2015, my husband and I were out and got hungry. I wanted to try either Primo's or Asado's for awhile now, just based on reviews I've read and the ambiance I observed as I drove by them. Primo's especially because of the tables along their open window front. So, we were walking and came to Primo's first and I pull my husband in. We were met by a lady in the front door who immediately looked us up and down and said, "I have the perfect table for you. Its in the back, by the kitchen, in a cubby." There were open tables everywhere, including the open air tables. So we follow her back and sure enough, they have a table that is in between two walls right next to the kitchen. You are absolutely hidden from sight. I was livid. Apparently, we were wearing jeans - which is a no no. I also have blue hair and my lip is pierced, so I needed to be hid as I'm not the right 'clientele'. While they wanted my money, they wanted to make sure nobody saw us. I was humiliated and offended, needles to say we just left. I was on the verge of tears. I ended up at Asado's, which I've also reviewed. read more

Went here last weekend before Michelle Obama and it was great. A tad pricey and didn't like that the auto gratuity was added pre-tax with no ability to adjust based off service level. Came again tonight with my dad and our experience left me questioning if I'd come back. We were seated in "counter seating" because the tables were full. Had I known HH was bar only, we would have sat there instead. Ordered Brussels sprouts right before HH ended. When they came out, there was NO bacon. I told my dad it was probably because it was HH and maybe wasn't included. So we didn't comment to the waiter. Fast forward to our bill coming (note if you order the sticky toffee pudding, either asking for extra Carmel or getting a small scoop of ice cream will cost you $3 extra-- there was a random $3 up charge on our bill) and I notice the Brussel sprouts were full price. I asked the server who tells me HH is bar only. That would have been fine had we not got a portion of Brussel sprouts from a larger batch to serve several orders that had NO bacon. When mentioned to both the server and owner who was working the door, all we got was an "okay thanks for letting me know". I think this is where the unadjustable auto-grat frustration came in. I work part-time at a restaurant and would never leave a customer complaint unaddressed, especially as an owner. Considering we spent over $350+ coming here two weekends in a row. Not sure we'll make the trek from Des Moines again. read more

I was less than enthused when I had a meal here for a friend's birthday sometime back. I had Spaghetti Carbonara, something I've found difficult to lose with in the past at most Italian spots. Maybe I've been at too many truly authentic spots family owned for years around the world- but I can't say this would even qualify as carbonara. First I need to say my wife and I come here a fair amount and love most everything on the menu. One of the items, Steak Frite, I've never been able to check out is because they are NEVER available. I mean NEVER. If they are NEVER available why have it on the menu? The brussel sprouts and polenta are amazing but I really want try the Steak Friete. That is why I can only give 4 stars. Ambiance is casual elegant, open windows to the patio, good lighting, and modest selection of drinks. Menu looked decent, ordered sazerac and ribeye with potatoes and brussell sprouts. Steak tasted great but potatoes were inconsistent and burned crispy in places. WAY too much grease on all three items; you could drink grease off the plate! I'm not one to write a review without telling the management my feedback directly to their faces, but I felt really weird trying to have a conversation with the two lesbo bartenders (I sat and ate at the bar) who were apparently disappointed that I decided to spend my money here. Zero personality or even a sincere hello; nada! 1 star for uncomfortable cold service and excessive grease, next two stars for Harris Ranch steak; which by itself was great. read more

They've expanded their happy hour menu and changed the prices. However, there are more delicious options to choose from and the prices are still very affordable! We tried the chickpea frites last night and they were accompanied with two perfect combinations of sauce. The penne pasta alforno plate was still bubbling and steaming from the oven. Only thing missing for this dish is a small piece of bread or breadstick to soak up all of the savory meat sauce. The female bartender was very attentive and offered to answer any questions we had. I appreciate a simple curt offer for a refill and more so a quick one. read more

We decided to splurge for our NYE dinner this year. We were excited to try Primo. We were unfortunately very disappointed by our experience. The hostess' tone was short and unwelcoming. Our waitress was a bit scattered and inattentive. Beverages sat empty for far too long, including water. I requested the bacon be omitted from the side dish. When I was served my plate, there was a rather large piece of bacon. The waitress saw me scooping it off to the side as she assured me it was the "shallot looking like bacon". I assured her it was not a shallot. She didn't offer to fix, remake, etc. I told her I would give it try and let her know if I wasn't okay with it. She didn't come back to check in on whether it was satisfactory. There were multiple chunks of crab shell in my crab cakes. My daughter's meal had butternut squash on the side. It was cooked and served with the skin on, however wasn't cooked well. The skin was hard and sharp making it difficult to eat. The cauliflower appetizer, pizza and pumpkin ravioli were good. My husband ordered a dessert that never came, but we also weren't charged for it - so perhaps just a miscommunication (although I specifically remember the waitress asking my husband what he wanted and him answering). Lastly, there was a rather large piece of plastic in the toffee pudding dessert. I enjoy a long leisurely meal, but the time that passed without any communication from the wait staff left us feeling forgotten (and thirsty and wanting to address the missing dessert and eventually just wanting our bill). With the automatically applied 18% service fee - I expect an exceptional experience. This was a massively disappointing evening. read more

I go with my husband at least once a month. The food is lovely and portion size is not huge aka proper which is perfect. The gnocchi, trofie are good dishes, as well as their pizza which is lovely. The polenta and cheese app is wonderful. The must for us is the sticky toffee pudding. They most recently had a specialty drink with house infused rhubarb which was lovely. As we have been there often its been nice to come in and the staff/owner even remembers who we are and asks about our life. Jacqueline is lovely. The food can be a bit rich but well worth it. We had a party of 14 for our Christmas dinner. We were in the main seating area. Our server Jack was extremely good, he took good care of us! The food was very good, the pork chop was wonderful as well as the duck appetizer. The ribeye was also very good. Somewhat thin but they managed to cook it medium rare. So good! We had the mussle app on servers recommendation, which are a must try you'll wanna lick the bowl and definitely get the bread for dipping! I have no idea why this restaurant doesn't have five stars. There is literally not a single restaurant in Tacoma/Gig Harbor area that is as good as this. If you are a ribeye lover like me, you NEED to order their rib eye dish. It is DELICIOUS!! I am an EXTREMELY picky steak eater and this steak tops the steaks my husband and I make on the charcoal grill. And we only buy prime rib eye steaks. They are extremely tender, flavorful, and the brussel sprouts are amazing. My husband got the salmon fettuccine dish and it was also VERY delicious. We ended up getting another one to go. We went to Primo on a Friday night. The restaurant was fairly busy but we were seated quickly. I ordered the paella which was bland and the sausage had a weird consistency/texture. I was very disappointed because I had high hopes for it considering how much it cost. My husband ordered the spaghetti nero which was delicious. We also ordered two drinks and dessert. Service was good though. All in all the meal was okay but was not worth the $116 bill. read more

Every single dish from the starters (fresh salad with a citrus vinaigrette and saffron mussels) to our entrees and then desserts were beyond special and surpassed any expectations that we might have had. This was my first time at Primo Grill, and everything was amazing. The bartender recommended I start with the Brussels sprouts, which were, obviously amazing! Rather than choosing one of the standard item menu options, I opted for the special of the day -- which consisted of -- Alaskan White Salmon, Asparagus, and an Olive Tapenade scattered along the top of it. The dish was amazing, served rare, it remained moist and flaky. The presentation was somewhat different than what you would experience along most of the waterfront restaurants that tend to lack originality in both aspects of presentation and execution; so obviously, I have to commemorate that. I ended the evening with a Panna Cotta, which was garnished with fresh fruit preserves and fresh strawberries. Additionally, I ordered an Old Fashioned with 'Four Roses Small Batch' a bourbon that is adored by all whiskey lovers for its dark fruit, spicy, sweet and cinnamon flavor notes! I have always been a Primo fan, until last night. The service was slow and a bit pushy, and the meals that followed were less than exhilarating. I ordered the king salmon, which was a $30 plate. I received an over-cooked tail section that was dry, charred and bitter. It sat on an oily pile of potatoes. The new space is interesting, but very loud. I am very selective on awarding five stars because the restaurant must have superior service, quality food, atmosphere/vibe, and yes; clean bathrooms. Five stars in all areas. It was a balmy night so all the windows huge garage door like windows were open letting in a Pacific Northwest breeze. Our waitress was friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable about everything on the menu. The meals were prepared to absolute perfection. When you are done walk across the street and check out one of the few legal Marijuana stores in the area. We will be returning. read more

We visited recently and had a good experience. We sat at the bar and the bartenders provided really great service while also staying busy making drinks. We ordered the calamari and it was delicious and definitely the best thing we ate. We wanted to lick the plate. It was perfectly seasoned and well cooked. My partner ordered lasagna and I ordered lamb shank with polenta. The polenta was pretty textbook and the second best thing about the entire meal. The lamb shank was super gloss and glazed. It was shining like the top of the Chrysler building. It was legit. It fell off the bone like nothing. The lasagna had a fresh flavor. The only thing missing from the two main courses was some salt. With a little more salt, there would have been nothing to call out in the whole meal. The lamb could have been phenomenal with some salt, but again, it was still good. The food and drinks came quickly and we were checked on several times. This is a great date night spot. read more
