we went there for happy hour on monday at 4:00...we sat at the bar and griffin took excellent care of us. we chose to come here after hearing a food editor on npr talk about it. we had three food items- mussels in curry cream sauce, lamb meatballs and a basket of bread. all three were excellent!!! i had 2 drinks: basil vodka gimlet(yum) and a very nice glass of house red. the entire menu looked delicous...very nice ambiance and music. Just finished dinner here w my daughter. We shared everything family style so to speak. We had the pear and brie balsamic appetizer and then the calamari appetizer. We ordered the bread to sop up the sauce. We finished it off w the fungi puzza. The crust was perfect. We enjoyed everything and definitely would come back. It was a little pricey. You should know all pastas can be glutten free and the restaurant adds 18% to the bill instead of you tipping. read more

Nothing we've had here has been bad. The burrata and brie appetizers are delicious. The pasta has been great each time we've come here but if you're looking for a smaller meal I'd 100% go to share an appetizer, a drink or wine, and dessert. They currently have a strawberry rhubarb pie that is perfectly balanced between sweet and tart. Anytime we have something to celebrate or need a fancier meal, we will be back. read more

Very good experience and a pleasant surprise. We had a party of 6 for a birthday dinner and everyone's meals were great. We checked in about 15 minutes before our reservation as we were next door having a drink and wanted to make sure they were going to be ready at the reservation time. They ensured us that we would be promptly seated at that time. So we finished our drinks quicker than we wanted, checked in, and then waited almost 15 minutes for a table. That was frustrating, but they did give us a few complimentary appetizers for our trouble so all was good. The rest of the service was very good and our waitress had great energy and was pleasant. We had the salmon, the pork chop, the ribeye, and a few pastas. All were good portions and everyone said the food was fantastic. I like the farm to fork practices Primo uses and the quality of the food was very good. I will definitely be back again soon. read more

Before they moved to their new spot I really disliked this place. Now, however, they seemed to have stepped up their game. I have been a consistent customer the last five years and am really disappointed to say I will not be returning after a most recent incident when a friend and I were asked to leave, with drinks half full, supposedly so more people could be seated. My friend and I had been there maybe an hour enjoying our happy hour food and drinks sitting at the bar when the hostess came from the doorway and said, "Hey do you guys know when you might want to *made clicking noise and gestured to the door*." For context there were multiple open tables and seats at the bar and she said nothing to the other two couples who had been there as long as we had if not longer. To top it off, my friend pointed out that I was the only person of color in the restaurant, which only added insult to injury in this super inappropriate encounter. Not to mention the fact that right after she asked us if we were leaving, the bartender asked us if we wanted another drink. All we could respond with was "I guess not..." This very unfortunate experience was on 10/21/17. I hope they can correctly train their hostess to have better interactions with customers. read more

I love Primo Grill; in my opinion they are the best restaurant in the 6th Ave restaurant district. I was prompted to write this review after a friend and I ate there recently, after getting a VERY frosty reception at two other restaurants. When we walked in, Primo's hostess said "Welcome!" Yay, because those other two places were definitely not welcoming!! We were seated and served promptly, with good food and drink, as usual in this place. We both enjoyed the Elderflower cocktail, and the margarita was fantastic. The roasted vegetable salad is a classic I always get. We both went for the chicken under a brick this time, which I've had before, and it was just as good as before. Delicious potatoes and broccoli to go with. In prior meals at Primo, I've had incredible duck confit, and one of the best steaks of my life here. Service is normally friendly and attentive. The chef Charlie is personable, as is his wife, who runs the front of house. For full disclosure, I do have to note that I was once mad at Primo for a number of years after a Valentine's meal. The restaurant was mobbed, and Charlie had not mentioned the specials to his staff. So instead of ordering filet mignon (which the server insisted they didn't have, but they did), I ordered a different steak. But I didn't get that steak, I got the OTHER steak dish on the menu; and when I pointed this out, the server just shrugged and walked away. There were other issues with the meal as well. I saw Charlie taking a break at the bar and told him about my experience; he did apologize, but did not offer a free drink or dessert, as restaurants usually do in this case. I was a bit miffed he didn't do anything to "make it right." I didn't go back for several years after that, but I finally relented and am happy to say that my other experiences since then have been fine. I recommend this place! read more

This has been one of our favorite restaurants but after today, we won't be going back. We had reservation at 4pm and were seated by the main street window. We ordered off the main menu NOT happy hour, and we having a lovely meal, the chef came over to ask to raise open the windows and (we were the only ones by them) we asked not to. We were just finishing our entrees when the woman who I presume is the owner came by to raise the windows, we again asked to wait, and she asked us to move, explained it was their "advertising" and they wouldn't have seated us there. Now, we've just been through a week of poor air quality from the wildfires, there's noise and gas fumes from the street, plus we were almost done. We left without dessert, assured the waitress she was fine, but I will have to say that "advertising" also includes HOW YOU TREAT EXISTING CUSTOMERS IN YOUR RESTAURANT. You must have assumed we were only paying for happy hour? You must be really in financial dire straits to treat people this way. Our bill was over $100 before we left. Went here for dinner last night, I like their new location. The food was pretty good. I had the chicken , which was prepared nicely, but for $23 it was quite small. It looked more like a small hen. It also came with broccoli, which for the price I would think they could splurge for broccolini at least. Anyways by no means am I saying I was disappointed, because the food was good, just a little overpriced for what you get. The service was good, cocktails a bit steep as well all being $10. My goodness. What a great dinner I just had. Ordered the ribeye with au gratin and Brussel sprouts. My friend ordered the chicken under a brick. Both were perfectly cooked and seasoned. So fresh! For dessert the hand pie for me, which was apple cinnamon with whipped cream. He ordered the pomegranate panne cotta. Pie crust was light and fluffy. The panne cotta perfectly firm and delicious. Never liked the old Primo Grill but this one is really good. The service was outstanding and the food A plus. The Margherita Pizza tasted awesome. I had the lamb shank which was excellent. My date and attorney friend had the chicken under the brick. No bruck ohvwell. Lol. I tried it and the chicken was incredibly moist and tasteful. A little bit noisy but you can hear a conversation. This was a terrific experience until we got the bill. Unlike most restaurants, their menu warns you of an 18% service charge on all orders. Fine. It does not tell you that it charges sales tax on the service charge. But it does charge sales tax on the service charge. It is a small amount on a small bill but there is something wrong with that and it is an unfair advantage over other restaurants that do not have a mandatory service charge. It left a bad taste at the conclusion of an otherwise nice meal. I think Primo needs to be more transparent read more

Been going here for years - love the place! We did the happy hour on this visit. There was nothing that wasnt very good or better, including the house wine! 4 of us ate here on New Year's Eve (Primo is now at 6th and Oakes - yelp needs to update the address). Service was good (which is commendable, given that it was New Year's Eve and busy. The food was fine but I didn't think it was extraordinary. We had a reservation so were seated right away. The prices here are a little high for what you get - the prices are higher than they were at the Pine location. They have a menu online, which I had looked at, but the prices aren't on it. Unless you're getting one of their cheapest pizzas or noodle dishes ($15), entrees are more in the $20 - $30 range, which is high for Tacoma (where rents are lower than the prime locations in Seattle). read more

This was an experience I care not to repeat. We sat at a window which was great. Our server was really nice but slow. She disappeared for long periods of time. It took quite awhile to get a wine because we had a question she didn't know the answer to so she went to find out. Almost 10 minutes later she came back. We were celebrating my bestie's bday and I have her a gift which she placed on the floor near her feet. The hostess came by to seat another couple, bent down & moved the present and was rude about it. Eyes rolled, not only from is but the new couple. Then bestie's ordered a drink before dinner came. 20 minutes later, hostess shows up with the drink after bestie went to find server to get our check. My girlfriend and I popped into Primo for Happy Hour after doing a similar stop at Marrow down the block. We were curious to compare the two restaurants and see how the prices, small plates, and cocktails stacked up. Honestly, I thought the ambiance and service at Primo surpassed Marrow, and the food was possibly even better! We ordered the brussel sprouts with crispy pancetta and the polenta with gouda. For cocktails we got the mint julep and Rome with a View. The brussel sprouts were the hands down favorite. The polenta was extremely rich and definitely left us satisfied, though it possibly had... dare I say it... too much cheese? The cocktails were both solid and while not quite as high end as the Marrow drinks we sipped earlier they were larger and well poured. At the end of the day we ended up spending just under $30 compared to over $40 spent at Marrow, but had just as wonderful of an experience. We will definitely be back to try more options on the menu! read more

Wanted to like this place! We did have a lovely server and no issue with the 18% gratuity (there is nowhere to put an extra tip on the receipt), but, unfortunately, I had two problems; 1.The atmosphere of the back room. I was incredibly excited about getting a reservation here with my partner for a birthday date as I love the ambience and nice lighting that you can see when you are walking by, as we often do on the way to Redhot. I did not realize, however, that there was a back room that feels as though it is an altogether different restaurant. When we came in promptly at our reservation time we were led through the main area and placed at an awkward table set up for four in the very brightly lit back room with turquoise and white walls. In my experience this is the kind of room I have been placed in when I am with a larger party or a bunch of noisy kiddos in tow, and for the price/quantity of the food it felt inappropriate; part of what you pay for is the environment, and this is sorely lacking in the back room. 2. The food itself was alright, however the portions are incredibly small, i.e. we asked to split a salad and were each given four pieces of lettuce with two croutons. To each their own, but it would have been helpful to be warned as there was more plate than food. Our conclusions: We would recommend that if you are going for a more romantic vibe, the back room is not the place to be, in hindsight I would have at least tried to request a front room table. I would also say if you are really hungry or just tend to eat a more substantial meal, it may make sense to be prepared to order more than a main meal/half salad (and the accompanying price tag) as the portions were generally not very big. read more

We went there for our anniversary, not sure what to expect. For the record, it's kind of an upscale bar with exquisite food. Not a place to show up in jeans and a t-shirt, but also not a place for a tux. The wait staff is very attentive and knowledgeable. Our server was on his second shift but steered my wife away from the Pinot Noir because it wouldn't pair with her food selection. She really wanted to try the wine, so she changed her food selection to match. The had the Fungi Pizza and raved about it. I had the chicken under a brick and it was quite possibly the best chicken I ever had. We'll be going back, with friends. read more
