The buttermilk bar donut is DELICIOUS, but personally, I was so full after eating just one and that was the first thing I ate for the day. I was still full later into the evening! That said, I was in LA to celebrate a cousin's birthday and found Primo's while researching for breakfast and pastries. Without boring you with all the details for getting there and purchasing the donuts, I will tell you that we were so hooked after the first visit that we returned the very next day to checkout and enjoy even more! Our faves: Apple Fritter - actually STOLE THE SHOW for me, and lasted til day 2 and through a plane ride back to ATL for my husband to just about faint over it! Absolutely decadent, soft and fruity with delightful small chunks of apple. AMAZING!! Butterfly - buttery, soft, flavorful, and melts in your mouth. I brought two of them back to Atlanta and my family hijacked them both so I didn't even get any!! Buttermilk Bar - it's entirely possible that a didn't get the best or freshest bar; but this was just OK for me. It was crispy and buttery on the outside but the inside was a bit more dense than I would have liked. Definitely not as soft as the butterfly was. I may give this another try when I am back in LA. Maple Long John - yummy and well flavored with maple. Soft and moist too! Blueberry Donut - my daughter and her bestie had one and loved it! I'd like to to try the vegan option, based on the reviews. Raised, filled donuts - the guava and apple were good; but nothing I'd write home about. We ordered a Nutella filled donut the first time we went there and were disappointed to realize they somehow gave us a fruit filled doughnut instead, which neither my cousin nor I wanted so it went to waste. We were also unpleasantly surprised that when mentioning it on our second trip the very next day, they didn't offer to give us the donut we had initially ordered and paid for. When I arrived they told me they are known for their glazed buttermilk bar-shaped doughnut. Their selection is comprised of the bar shaped and cake doughnuts. They do not make yeast doughnut (aka the glazed airy & fluffy type). I raised a brow to that, but ok let's see what they were all about. I got their glazed buttermilk bar-shaped doughnut, glazed cake, a crumb cake, and Mrs. Primo threw in a vanilla raised sprinkle for good measure (thank you Mrs.Primo ). Yes, their glazed buttermilk bar-shaped doughnut is great, but for me the starts are their cake doughnuts. Oh my God, how do I describe them? They are the lightest, not overly sweet, melt in your mouth cake doughnuts that hug you the moment you taste them. I was AMAZED! So delicious . Nick the employee on Saturday had great customer service. They were gonna close but he saved our order: a buttermilk bar, a glazed buttermilk bar, & a glazed raised ring donut. The best item in my opinion was the glazed buttermilk bar. Feels like you're eating a non corn based cornbread haha that's adequately sweet. The plain buttermilk bar was dry but moist on the inside. I haven't tried many of their normal donuts, but I heard that they recently added Hawaiian malasada (special kind of filled donut) so I had to gave them a try! I went on a weekday early afternoon and they still had plenty of flavor options. I got the Nutella, guava, and mango ones - the guava one was the most unique (perfect balance of sweet and tartness). The Nutella one was very good as well (who doesn't like hazelnut chocolate in a fried bun...). The mango one was a bit too sweet for my taste! Since they make them fresh every morning, I was told that I should go before 7am if I want to get them hot! Will have to try to get up early to pick some up soon! read more

When I first moved to West LA, one of my first questions was, who has the best donuts? My friends led me here, and I was not disappointed. This is a no-frills, no fluff, donut shop. They know what they are, they keep it simple, and they do it right. I'm not even a typical buttermilk fan, but after trying theirs, I can easily see (or taste) why theirs is a best seller. My favorites are the apple crumb one, and the orange donut. Service is always top notch. If you show up towards closing on Sundays, they will likely toss in a couple extra since they only serve fresh donuts, and rather not throw leftovers away. I happened to be in the area during a weekday in the middle of the day and there was no line- so I stopped by. I got a variety of donuts and I have to say they're all very good. Mainly because they taste fresh. I can see the appeal of this place esp for the price. Cherry cake donut- perfect cake donut. Frosting was just the right amount. Raised apple cin and Nutella malasadas- both solid. Not my faves I've ever had esp the malasadas which I've been spoiled by Leonard's in Honolulu. These are pretty good but nowhere near that level. I love donuts and always try to go after the most sought after donut spots in LA. This one was one of the most recommended but I personally didn't think it was THAT good. It's not bad though! First off I think it's dd that they close at 4PM everyday which makes it so difficult to get to! I've been meaning to come here for a while. Some people consider this the best donut place in Los Angeles. I got their most popular item , the buttermilk bar. My expectations were kinda high and not met. It's more of a 3.75 for me. It was good, which is why I'll round up but I don't think it's something I'd ever go out of my way to get again. The bar itself was pretty sweet and cake like on the inside. I guess I prefer a more airy donut, but that's more personal preference. Especially since my move to Los Angeles from New York has made me more picky on LA food. But being across the street trying Tripp Burgers for the first time I sat in my car and looked across the street only to see Primos. So of course I had to come in. Walking in I was greeted then ultimately given fantastic customer service from a young man named Henry. Or Harvy. At this moment I can't really remember Haha Sorry. I explained to him it was my first time and I wanted to know what they have and are about. He did a good job walking my through their flavors and what their popular for. Unfortunately for me I walked in around noon so their selection wasn't that big. It didn't matter I still ordered about one of each they had left and a few of my all time favorite, the Old Fashioned. Henry went ahead and suggested I come back soon this time earlier to have more of a selection to choose from. Between his customer service and their delicious, soft and flavorful donuts, they can count on my business for a long time. I say it all they time, customer service is key for my family and I returning to an establishment and they won me with that. Paid almost $4 for a buttermilk bar and a chocolate donut. Both donuts tasted good especially that Buttermilk Bar. Not sure if they were worth the price tag, though. Well, the positive is that Primo's was staffed by two incredibly friendly women this morning. Both greeted me upon entry with a hello and a smile. However, that's not enough for me to write a positive review nor return. I sample donuts all over, like literally all over. I've recently decided I should start reviewing my stops, and thus lately I have. Today, I opted for Primo's. As stated, the staff was very courteous and welcoming. That's not a problem. My first issue was price. I got the yeast raised maple bacon (I always sample the maple bacon), and after being rang up at $3.25 I was a tad puzzled, for it wasn't an artisanal donut, and I wasn't in a nice part of town per se. I've seen this type of donut across the United States, and I've never paid $3.25 for a standard maple bacon. Before you go calling me cheap, just know that I'm basing this off of my past experiences (I have plenty). I'll pay whatever for an artisanal donut, something creative, something that takes time and meticulous decorating with the finest ingredients. It wasn't a huge uptick, but surprising nonetheless for the standard. It should at least be worth $3.25, right? Sadly, it was not. The bacon was soggy and soft, like ultra soft. That was the worst bacon I've ever had on a maple bacon donut (my favorite). I hate to write such a review, but I have to, honesty is the best policy. It's like when you add bacon to an already hot pan and it seizes up, trapping all of that congealed, unrendered fat, because it looked to be well done. Perhaps it wasn't strained and sat in grease for however long. The donut itself was a bit dense, so doughy or "chewy" as some people refer to it as. The sweetness from the glaze kept me engaged though. Did I eat the entire donut? Yes. Was I satisfied? From a hunger standpoint, yes, it was dense so it satiated my morning hunger. From a taste and experience standpoint? No. The bacon was just grossly soft. Not a hint of crunch was to be found. The maple flavor was affected by what I presume was the grease runoff from the soggy bacon as well. Sadly, I can't vote for this place. 2 stars for customer service alone. Their other donuts are also tasty, but I tend to just stick with the glazed buttermilk. Got to try a box of donuts from Primo's yesterday. Really yummy doughnuts! The buttermilk bars ( plain and glazed) were nice and substantial but not heavy. The cake doughnut with chocolate glaze was tasty with a hint of nutmeg or something extra. The yeasty raised glazed twist was also yummy. As was the sugar donut- can't decide on a favorite. It's nice because they taste fresh not greasy and they definitely use fresh clean oil because you don't have that aftertaste of oil.
