Pretty much fantastic sums this place up...only delivery place in Bham open till 2 on the weekends...they have actually delivered me cigarettes upon showing proper ID at the door...I am also sure they would pry deliver anything in the store but booze-althou they should! Pizza is the bomb...you will never get a bad one and slices that are always ready for when you are the way home from the bar-that is if you can safely drive. Staff making your food is a little sketchy looking, but one bite and you are over it. I also love it cuz this is NOT a place you have to order double cheese on the pizza to get enough of it! First time we had their pizza that everyone raved about. We had it delivered and would never had accepted it if we picked it up. Two large burnt pizzas and a small borderline burnt. I've had some people tell me this place was great in the past. We tried it once in the past and wasn't impressed. Tried it today with a pretty basic order: a large round Margarita pizza and a large Caesar salad. The pizza dough was pretty thin for a regular style, the flavor wasn't anything great either. It felt and tasted like a pretty thin cheap pizza frankly. The Caesar salad was a medium size bowl of lettuce with some small croutons from a box by a grocery store, and one plastic cup of average Caesar dressing. For this we paid 37 bucks plus tax. I don't see the attraction of this place, maybe their other food has more uniqueness and flavor and value, but I would say this is at the bottom of the pizza offerings in the Birmingham area from our experience. I think this is the best carry out pizza in the area. They make a great thin crust and if you add jalapeno peppers it's a little bit of heaven(or hell). They have been here for years. Always great and they sell beer and wine. This is only a carry out spot. read more

What can I say about Primos Pizza that hasn't already been said? This place has great pizza that always tastes fresh and great and never disappoints. The slices are cheap and you are almost guaranteed a corner slice if you get more than 2. The best thing about Primos though is the atmosphere of the place. In an area like Birmingham, Primos is that rare independent eatery that sticks out like a sore thumb which makes it even better. I just moved into the neighborhood and live on Hazel. I was really looking forward to trying Primo's. I thought, "Gosh, it will be nice to have a locally owned, tasty pizza joint right around the corner." I popped in on Sunday, August 7th. I was with my mom and husband, looking for a place to have lunch. We didn't know if it was a sit-down or pick-up place. The owner said literally, "Welcome to the neighborhood." And he handed me some coupons. Today, August 11, 2011 I walked in to order 3 X-Large pizzas to feed the crew of landscapers working on my home. I explained to the owner I'd just been in on Sunday, but didn't have my coupons with me that day and that I'd really appreciate it if he'd honor a coupon price. (I just dropped $11K treating carpenter ants on my new house.) He was totally unsympathetic. He said he "only gives coupons to his SPECIAL customers and they MUST have the coupon." He reminded me of the soup nazi on Seinfeld. For 3 x-large (12 slice) pizzas and 5 drinks the total was $65. While the pizza was good, I will not go back b/c the guy who took my order was unfriendly. read more

Service was slow. Pizza was nearly repulsive, and the owner is a real ungrateful guy. My wife and I had ordered a pizza and a salad for pick up. I called the pizza in 30 minutes before I had to pick it up. Reasonable amount of time right? We'll I guess not! I arrived only to be asked to wait an additional 10 minutes. (The box mind you guarantees delivery in under 30). As I waited I asked to speak with the manager. The manager turned out to be the owner John. He told me if I didn't want to wait, I could go elsewhere. Claiming he didn't need my business. I was so disgusted by how I was spoken to, I decided to leave and take my business elsewhere. Do not go here!! Horrible customer service!! Once ordering I asked him what was in a house pizza. The guy described the ingredients and said anchovies are added upon request. I did not ask for anchovies to be added or even mention anchovies. I received the pizza with anchovies which gave it a fishy flavor. Horrible combination. When I called back the manager refused to do anything about it and blamed me for the mistake. I told him to replay the phone call and check. Which he could not. Primo's is the BOMB. Love the pizza here, although it is definitely unique and you may have friends that don't. They have a decent beer and wine selection, definitely the best I have ever seen at a pizza joint. The breadsticks here are AAAMAZING! Salads I'd pass on next time. I have a feeling that the best thing about this place is its late night hours, and nicely renovated interior. A lot of people really seem to love their marble countertops, but I am pretty sure that I don't really care too much about the interior of a takeout joint. That said, they have a serious pizza operation going on there, and that's pretty cool. It's connected to a kind of liquor/grocery store, so you can grab several different kinds of pop or wine or beer to go with your pizza, which is fun. Of course, the main draw is the pizza itself, and that's where I have issues. The photography both on this site and their own makes Primo's pizza look, well, primo. But for my money - and money is the key word here, this is not necessarily cheap pizza, but it sure tastes like it. I suppose if you like thin crusts that get harder than your average cracker quick, then there you go. Personally, I like my crusts a bit thicker and I like a denser layer of toppings than Primo's is apparently willing to put down. I might stop in to grab a beverage or something, and maybe on a late night it might be a snack savior, but as a go-to pizza place there are better restaurants within a mile of Primo's for as much or less. If I can say one thing about this place, it's their hours. For those of us that work late or don't get home until late evening and realize there is nothing to eat, their hours are awesome, and they deliver pretty far too! Couple that with a good pie and we have a winner. I live their pepperoni and the way it crisps up on the pizza. Had the ribs and they are good as well. Oh, eating a slice from here brings me back to the (good) days of high school... walking down from the school with my friends to get lunch. Primo's pizza (this location) is very busy. I consider this a very good thing. I ordered the pepperoni pizza and the cheese bread. Let me tell you the cheese bread taste as good as it looks. Amazing. The pizza is so far the best in the area (Birmingham) when looking for a "TRADITIONAL" style crust. It was also very good. It's a little more expensive then other places that offer the same type of pizza but, I think it's worth it. I waited in line to pick it up while the parking lot was full. Not a big deaL to me because it gave me a chance to take in the rest of the store. They have beer, and wine here and a club you can be part of to get a discount. While the pizza was very good I'm not giving it 5 stars because it didn't blow my doors off. Not that I expected it to. It was VERY GOOD though. The cheese bread though... After waiting for 10 minutes behind an overly talkative order, some large order that seemed more difficult than it should be, then a lost order and yet another person ahead of me in line I walked out and called Jet's from the parking lot. First, Primo's is the best pizza in Birmingham. That's is indisputable. Second, for the reviews saying "it's a little on the pricey side" - relax, it's a pizza, so it's $2.00 more than the alternative - go get a hot and ready if you want something simple and cheap. The pizza at Primo's is always on point. I typically get the ultra thin crust with pepperoni and mushrooms and feel extremely satisfied after. The sauce is great, the dough is well-made and the various ingredients we get are as expected. The staff inside is always very cool too - they're typically busy on a later night but get you in and out without being rude and make sure you have everything you need. read more

some of the best square slices come from this joint! it's a total "joint" - open late for slices and delivers late as well - primo's is the "birminghamers" original square pizza. i grew up eating this and although the round is still good, the square is crusty and chewy without being too doughy and if you're lucky enough to snag a corner piece, you've got it made, it's the best slice in the pie! also, try the ribs and fries - they're a good option in addition to the pizza (be a total fat ass, who cares!?) dirty, divey and damn good! read more
