I used to love proper bagel and come very frequently. Even though the inside hasn't been open since the pandemic, this usually was an issue. Unfortunately over the last couple of months things have changed. Either the menu has gotten smaller or they are always out of certain things. The waits are getting longer. I know a lot of places are short staffed right now so I want to be sympathetic, but something just feels off here lately. I tried to go on Sunday and they were out of every single for breakfast sandwich. I came again on Monday and ordered a plain bagel. After my order was accepted and paid for, they said they were out of plain bagels and only had like 4 options to choose from. I ended up getting a bialy with cream cheese and it took 40 mins. The online order system had said it would take 10 mins. There sign says the inside is opening soon so I think I will wait to come back until they are fully reopened. read more

As someone from the New Jersey/New York area, I go into bagel places in other cities expecting them to be just "meh." Proper Bagel turned that expectation upside down. Best bagel I've had outside of NJ/NY. I ordered a New Yorker sandwich with bacon and a fried egg. Portioned perfectly, and the ketchup and cheese gave it a perfectly rounded flavor. Sweet, savory, salty. It also came with a side of mashed sweet potato which was a pleasant addition. I also tried a couple of their cream cheeses (they do it ice cream style tasting) and they were delicious. Ended up getting a Raisin bagel with blueberry pie cream cheese to go and it was fantastic. Great service and beautiful interior. Only getting 4 stars because, well, it's not a New York bagel. But it's the best you can get elsewhere! read more

I was pretty disappointed with today's visit to proper bagel. I just moved back to the Nashville area so it's been two years since I've been back here, and I was so excited to bring my parents who are visiting here because I talked it up so much, but it's seemed to go downhill since I've been last. They only have to go orders with the option to sit out front due to Covid, which a lot of restaurants still do, but proper's system was extremely insufficient. You have to order on your phone, wait for them to "accept" the order you already paid for, then wait for them to bring the food out to you. The menu online isn't really user friendly, and doesn't showcase all the items they have to display, and I know they have a lot of great product for consumers to enjoy. It took us almost 45 minutes to get our food, and our order wasn't correct. We paid $55 for 3 bagels and two coffees and it just was way too overpriced for the quality of food we got paired with the lack of service. The employees were busier inside cleaning the restaurant (even though no customers can step foot in there), than taking care of the customers who overpaid for their food outside in the heat. It seems like the upcharge in food is because of the packaging they're using. The Tupperware for the sides and toast we got were nicer than Tupperware you can find at the nicest grocery store. Honestly, I don't see myself spending my money here anymore. There are other great places in Nashville who sell bagels with reasonable prices, better service and bigger portion sizes. read more

(This was in May so might have changed) We drove up and were told we had to order online- which was a hassle. They wouldn't even take our order in person. When I came back to pick up my food I was left outside waiting for 5-10 minutes without even being acknowledged. Not the best service experience but at least the food was good. It is located in a neighborhood and I am quite jealous it isn't my neighborhood. We arrived quite early to already find a line, but it moved fairly quickly. We places our order for a New Yorker sandwich on an everything bagel as well as a pastrami nova. I could not resist the s'mores bar and I am so happy I I got to enjoy it. Our service during our visit was super friendly and welcoming. Once we placed our order, we found a seat and they brought the food out to us quickly. Both bagel sandwiches looked phenomenal and they tasted even better. The s'mores bar was complete heaven. The only bad part about it was having to share. What a surprise to find a fantastic bagel shop in Nashville! We arrived here early on a Friday morning and it was worth the short wait. We were a small group and were able to sit at two tables. The open faced bagel with smoked cream cheese was delicious, as was the smoked whitefish salad. If you want a treat in a cup, try the hot chocolate/espresso drink. It's fantastic. When proper bagel opened, I was hesitant. Another white tiled, overpriced, basic restaurant was not what Nashville needed. I don't usually like to be wrong, but I could not be more thrilled to be wrong about proper bagel. They make some of the best bagels I have ever had. They are the perfect size, not too doughy, and have awesome flavor. The cream cheese selection is awesome and I have liked every flavor I have tried. Do not let the garlic rosemary pass you by! Their breakfast and lunch sandwiches are also not to be missed! They have a variety of salads and lunch spreads in the case to choose from!
