Have not been back here in years as we moved away and tried last night again with my Bride. Seated promptly even though they were very busy at 5:15 pm Friday night. Waitress Jaycie was a sweetheart, great attitude, prompt and attended to our needs through our meal. Ordered Catfish with Potato salad and coleslaw and Bride ordered smoked chicken steak fries and bbq beans. Everything was hot & delicious! Smoked Chicken was some of the best I've had in Years! This is A great local place to go with lots of daily specials and good service and a very popular place. My favorite meal is the vegetable soup with a salad and their homemade ranch dressing which is delicious. I have tried their chicken dumplings which was good as well. My friend had a barbecue plate and he really enjoyed it. So definitely A memorable meal. read more

If southern cooking is your thing, go to Pruett's. The fried catfish was cooked beautifully and was seasoned perfectly. My sides were fried squash and macaroni and cheese, both solid and satisfying. My mom opted to wait for the dark fried chicken dinner. They tell you right upfront it will be 25 minutes, but it is worth the wait. Crispy golden brown and piping hot was how the chicken was delivered to the table. We also got a side of chicken and dumplings which were some of the best I've ever had. The sweet potato fluff was yummy as well. I will be returning to this institution in Gadsden. read more

It should be 3.5 stars, but that isn't an option. 3 pm on a Monday and this place was packed. Meatloaf was the special of the day and it did not disappoint my meatloaf loving husband. It was a bit oniony but good and he received a large portion. His meal was rounded out with two sides (mashed potatoes and black eyed peas) and a big slice of cornbread. Cut pie shaped like cornbread should be. It was a solid meal, but the (instant? surely not in this homemade place!) potatoes were lacking. I ordered the pork potato and while not the best ever, it was good. It was a little off putting when the waitress put a plate that had obviously been microwaved in front of me, but it was fine. If we were locals we would be back as the food is solid home cooking and the menu vast enough to satisfy the many cravings of a large group or two opinionated people. we came from Mentone to visit Gadsden and ended having a crave x BBQ. We went to Pruitt's because of its ratings. I ordered a sandwich with mixed pork and meat, fries, and BBQ beans. My husband ordered the plate of the day: pork, corn, mash potatoes. My pork/meat had a lot of BBQ sauce on top. someone poured more than necessary. it was not a sandwich as I ordered, but just one piece of sandwich bread. when I tasted the pork the BBQ sauce was very sour, which ruined the whole meal. my husband shared his pork with me, and we ate the fries+beans. Mine was not a good experience. food was 2 service was 4 and ambience was good. place is clean and nice space. read more

The waiters are always so kind. There's nothing you can order that isn't good; except I'm not a catfish fan but everyone says it's great. My go to is the grilled chicken with fries and mac and cheese you can't go wrong. It's always clean and if there is ever anything wrong they will fix it. Pruett's only serves ribs on Fridays and Saturdays. You have to get there right at noon to get some. I've been at 1 before and they were already all gone. These ribs were mar-vel-ous. The top was a little tough but the meat underneath was all tender. No wondering if these ribs were not hot and fresh. They are smoking once they come to your table. The waitress gave me a hint and said they are cooked in the pit for 15 hours. And to make the ribs better, Pruett's addictive BBQ sauce goes so well with them. Pruett's BBQ sauce is a blend of ketchup and vinegar. It has a sweet/tangy taste to it. I could eat it for days with almost anything...including dessert (just kidding). I have reviewed the pork before and it was pretty good. Stay away from the beef. The ribs are the most expensive plate on the menu but so was worth the $18 I put down for it with 2 sides. Pruett's have a lot of sides to choose from. I chose Butter Beans and Green Bean Casserole. Both of which were also hot and fresh when they made it to my table. The one side that was on the 100 Things to Try Before You Die in Alabama list is the sweet potato souffle. That's the one I recommend if you have to pick one or you are only ever going to eat at Pruett's once in your life. If you don't like BBQ, Pruett's is more of a down-home cooking place so there are several other choices. I have only had one other thing besides BBQ from Pruett's and that was the phenomenal Meatloaf. I'm convinced that most places like Pruett's that claim to be BBQ but does several other things, is not usually a good BBQ place. Pruett's though seems to be the rarity. read more

I do not like catfish. It tastes a little muddy and has little texture to me, and what texture there is just is not pleasing to me. Until now. Pruett's does something magical with the humble fish. First, it's deliciously farm-raised, so the texture and taste are controlled by what the farmer feeds them, and the farm Pruett's buys them from does it right. I think it's in Mississippi. Then there's the breading - and seasoning. It's perfect. Finished with a nice fat lemon wedge squeeze and tartar sauce, this is sublime. It's crispy yet moist. Crunchy but not too much so. Absolutely delicious. And that's just the catfish - I could go on and on about the sweet potato fluff (a dessert masquerading as a vegetable) and the turnip greens (perfectly salted and porky without being greasy) and ribs (smoky with sauce cooked to a crackly glaze, then more sauce added for extra extra), the ham (they run out every Saturday so get there early), the squash casserole (better than Southeyn Living) ... Seriously. Just go every week. Twice per week. Now that they've reopened, I can't possibly go enough. Their chicken and dressing is amazing, by the way, and available on Wednesdays. Mmmmm. read more

Just do it! There are a still a few things that make retiring in the Gadsden area great and Pruetts Barbecue is one of them. Loved it in the 80's and it's still the same delicious, high quality food I remembered. Can I just say that Pruetts is a contender for the BBQ crown. Tender smoked meats that almost melt in your mouth, hush puppies to die for, deserts that definitely add an extra special finish to a delicious meal. I have never been there when it's not busy. The food still comes up fresh and hot. The staff of servers are very friendly, they could earn points towards a fifth star if they would check back a bit more often. It's a great place for a family night out. They serve other stuff for you non-BBQ eaters like Catfish, chicken and even veggie plates. Give them a try next time you're in Gadsden Alabama. I often visit the drive in location during lunch. Staff is always nice and the food is prepared as ordered. When I do go to the bigger location I usually opt for the whole catfish which is really good. The macaroni and cheese is not the best but it's okay. This place is magnificent. An enormous menu with revolving daily specials that are from a deep Southern home kitchen. This is a real Southern restaurant, having been around since the mid-20th century. I had the fried catfish, greens, mac 'n' cheese, and a two small sides of grits and Brunswick stew. Others at my table swooned over the perfectly fried catfish, fried chicken, hush puppies, dressing and roasted pork. If I lived near this place I would go there every day. I kid you not.
