We stopped here for take out on our way to the campground. Ordered a slab of ribs and steak fries. The ribs were really flavorful but a little chewy, the steak fries were decent. It was nice to get to the campsite and sit down to ribs. No dishes to clean up! read more

We keep a book of restaurants that we want to visit all around the United States and Canada. Many of the restaurants were recommended by friends and others are restaurants that we have seen on TV shows such as Diners, Drive-In's and Dives; Delicious Destinations; Man, Fire, Food; etc. we were traveling through Tennessee and crossed into Alabama to see our family in Prattville. It was lunchtime and we didn't have anything in our workbook that was fairly close to the border between Alabama and Tennessee. We stopped into the Alabama welcome center and a very helpful young man gave me a pamphlet with great food spots across Alabama. Several of them were on our list and I will book but Pruitt's wasn't but it was close by and we figured that we would try it. My wife was in the mood for barbecue and I happen to be in the mood for some soul food. Neither one of us were disappointed. I ordered the catfish, turnip greens, and okra. The catfish was cooked perfectly. Some of the best I've ever had. The okra was fantastic. Crispy and fresh. I am more of a collared green fan but the turnip greens were awesome. My wife ordered the pulled pork sandwich which she said was fantastic. She also had the macaroni and cheese which I tried and it was amazing. We both had sweet teas and it was in a huge cup and exactly how I make it myself. Next time we travel this route to Alabama, we will definitely be stopping in again. read more

Pruett's will always be a family favorite! My 6 year old chose to eat here for his birthday dinner. The service is wonderful and the prices are good. The food is to die for! Would eat here everyday if I could. The menu has a great variety, and something for everyone. read more

Lunch at Pruetts was average at best. They garner a good lunch crowd so they are obviously a popular local bbq spot. The service I received was very good, the server was nice, upbeat and helpful. The atmosphere is laid back, just what you would expect at this type of place. Sadly, the food just did not measure up. I had the combo bbq plate with pulled pork & "beef". The puled pork was fine, nothing exceptional but fine. The beef was tuff and chewy...just not very good. I found Pruetts to be not bad...just not very good. read more

Had a turkey plate with two sides, potato salad and okra. Turkey was soft and the potato salad and okra were great. Comes with a slice of toasted bread which was good too. Ordered a side door of onion rings too and they were good as well. read more

This is the 2nd time I've been treated like this by their sexist, bigoted, all female staff. Yep that's right, all the male-gendered employees are forced to work in the back where no one can see them and the "cute southern girls" are all out in the front. I'm a single guy and this time I got up and walked out because I was ignored AGAIN! 2 times in a row I come to this place and am shunned because I'm by myself. This time, 2 different parties, both families of 4, were seated at least 5 mins after me, and they got served before me... by THE SAME waitress that was supposed to serve me. TWO TIMES this has happened a week apart. I thought the first time was a fluke, but when it happens AGAIN with a week in between, that's totally on purpose. I guess the little southern Belles think they won't get as nice of a tip from a single guy, so they choose to ignore them. ABSOLUTELY disgusted by this bigoted establishment. So much for "southern hospitality"! I'm guessing the owner doesn't even know what yelp is, so the odds of them reading this is minuscule. read more

Never heard of this place before but the parking lot was packed so gave it a try. The meats are perfection here. I had the baked ham ( large portion, moist, sweet and tender, like grandma cooked it overnight!). Hubby had the 1/2 rack of ribs (served only from noon till it runs out on Fri/Sat) huge portion, meaty, smoky,falling off the bone--probably some of the best we'd ever had. The sides were not so great. That's a pet peeve of mine: when a place serves great catfish but it comes with tough little frozen hushpuppies or lousy sweet tea, etc. If you know how to make delicious meats then don't skimp on the sides!! The fried squash and slaw we had was ok but my hash brown casserole and hubby's potato salad were awful. How can u mess up hash brown casserole?! I would go back but carefully pick my sides. read more

Folks- when pork is cut into square chunks it is NOT pulled pork, such is the case with this place. Pruetts Pork is cut into small pieces. It is cut because it is tough and cannot be easily pulled off the bones ! Pulled pork is the result of long and slow cooking over hickory wood Fried squash was frozen and deep fried, slaw tasted ok, but just ok. Waitress was friendly, but had too many tables to provide much service. read more

I had lunch here one day with some co-workers. The decor reminds you of country. The dining area is large with tons of tables. I had a bbq chicken stuffed potato. It was a great deal for the quality. I enjoyed the flavor of the sauce. Unfortunately for Pruetts I wouldn't drive 45 min to come here when Top O the River is across the street. read more

Always pleasant to eat at. Everything is cooked fresh and to perfection, and so far, there's nothing on the menu I didn't like. One of the few places where the teenagers who I've seen working there aren't obnoxious and clumsy. I recommend the "Grandma's original fried chicken" (I think that's the name of it); so delicious. The fried squash and fried okra are good sides to consider. read more

I moved out of state many years ago but never come to visit without planning a family meal at Pruett's. It's the best food around! I highly recommend the fried chicken and squash. Table for four. In town for a family funeral and looking for a home cooked meal. This restaurant did not disappoint. The service was good. The atmosphere was appropriate for this style of eating. Our table ordered the fried chicken dinner and the rib dinner. The food was hot, delicious and seasoned well but not salty. The staff was courteous. I would have given it 5 stars but it is a little pricy in my opinion. If you're in town and have the opportunity I would recommend Pruetts if you're looking for a home style relaxed atmosphere with some good ol' Southern cuisine. read more

Last week I pulled into Pruitts to get a barbecue sandwich. It was the worst barbecue sandwich I've probably ever had except for an airport. Call talk to some woman who tried to get rid of me instead of helping me. Left a number for owners to call me. No one ever called me. Call back spoke to another woman and left a message for the owners to call again. No call back again. I really question the integrity of owners who are too good to call customers back. Evidently they don't need any business. The sandwich was so soggy feel like it set around for three days. And I guess the owners are not worried about any customer satisfaction. Then also had a complaint about them charging an extra math use my credit card. Be aware these are tax deductible business expenses. I guess they're double dipping. who does such an act is deceiving you. Guess I'll have to write a letter to the editor to warn everyone. Unbelievable after two calls and no one cares! Would have given a negative chancen but can only put one star! read more

BBQ that does not have ribs. Since it was made clear that pond raised catfish and Baked Ham where my choices, I opted for the hamburger and onion rings instead. Save yourself McDonald's is a better place for a hamburger. The Patty was frozen fried and unseasoned. The onion rings were fresh from the bag from the freezer. My wife had hamburger steak that was equally unseasoned. Fried okra was frozen. There's not really much good to say about this place except the service was really good. Overall I would recommend staying home and fixing something from the pantry it would be a lot less expensive and tastier I'm sure. read more

Okay...Pros, the food is pretty good, especially the bbq and the wait staff are excellent. Con, the seating is very "cafeteria" style. So if you don't mind the "con", you will LOVE Pruetts. We have had both take out and eaten in. This is a pretty popular spot, so you might plan to wait on busier nights. Great place overall! read more

Family owned and operated restaurant in Gadsden. My wife's family loooooves some Pruett's. Today I became a believer. The menu is diverse and they have daily specials. Today's was ham no one partook. Instead my wife had their legendary chicken fingers, my son and I had catfish. Other popular choices from the in laws included BBQ, burgers salads and hamburger streak. It doesn't appear you can go wrong with whatever you choose. My son orders Brunswick stew and turnip greens with his catfish. I snaked a few bites of the greens and to my surprise they were legit real homemade turnip greens. He and my wife loved the Brunswick stew, I'm not a fan. Tastes like you spilled Worcestershire sauce when making soup. Blah, but that's all Brunswick in my opinion. I tried the house made BBQ sauce on the perfectly crisp steak fries and I was shocked. It wasn't sugary molasses flavored ketchup, it was good, spicy, tangy vinegar based sauce. Which is the only way to go for me. Next time we go I don't know if I'll try the BBQ or the homemade fried chicken, but I do know there will be a next time! If for nothing else for the peanut butter pie my wife and son declared the absolute best ever! The service was friendly and prompt. We had a bit of a wait with a big party on a busy Saturday at lunch time. You're going to have a wait virtually anytime you go there from my understanding. It's a super popular local restaurant. If you can't be patient go elsewhere. You can get catfish at the more widely recognized nearby Top O restaurant; however you don't get the same quality, variety and service. In addition to the family restaurant Pruett's also operates the former drive thru across the parking lot. In what I've come to realize as typical Pruett's fashion there is always a line and today it was wrapped around the building. The sign boasts .99 cent BBQ sandwiches. According to my father in law it's the same quality product in a smaller portion. Order 2 and you've still got an absolute bargain for the flavor and quality of product. If find yourself in the Gadsden area this is the place to go. read more

We are regulars at Pruett's and love the chicken fingers and the veggie plates. Wish they would change their daily specials or at least add a couple of options on the daily specials. We know exactly what they are having on special each day. We'd love to be offered more meat options on the specials. Pies are to die for! Not a fan of their BBQ, but the BBQ salads are great. However, we really enjoy going there, have made friends with several staff members and always given excellent service. Atmosphere is country/BBQ style and fun staff. Must try if in town. read more

Despite being in the heart of BBQ territory, Gadsden lacks a premium BBQ joint. Pruett's food is solid, not great, but it gets high marks for service, price and for having a drivethrough for to-go orders which make it the best BBQ spot in town. read more

Ate dinner there on 01/25/11. I got the BBQ pork plate and it was good. I like the steak fries. The BBQ beans are not bad. My wife and I really like the Lemon Pie. I will go back and eat there again for sure. The one complaint I would have is there BBQ sauce is not too good in my opinion. read more
