This place is amazing and different. The extremely welcoming owner and his family take special care with everything. Immaculately clean. Warm and welcoming. I love coming here!. This is NOT your run of the mill sandwich shop or restaurant, it is a Hybrid of an American Coffee Shop with great ethic and traditional American food, sandwiches, and salads that are truly home made. The Chef/owner worked for many years in a popular cape restaurant after coming here from Nepal. Now he has created his own place with a unique menu. Found a great new spot during my yearly trek to Chatham when I Looked on Yelp and found this place. We were pleasantly surprised with the hospitality and interesting conversation from the very congenial owner Hari. I had the Cubano sandwich and it was delicious. Hari was very kind and offered us a few samples of his delicious soups & desserts! All which were yummy! The seafood chowder is a definite choice the next time I go! Also going to try the Momos as well. Hopefully this place will succeed and remain a staple for Chatham center. Just as a word of caution there are a couple of places that have the Same address which is very strange so just keep looking for the restaurant sign and you won't be disappointed. read more

Had lunch here yesterday after seeing a movie at the nearby Orpheum Theatre. What a fabulous place! Great menu of soups, salads, sandwiches, and main dishes - and very friendly service. You order at the counter and then they bring your order to your table. My friend and I had the chicken vegetable noodle soup - delicious, with a subtle Thai influence, and clearly made from scratch. We observed other peoples orders of salads and sandwiches - all of which looked equally well-made and flavorful. Stopped in for lunch with a family group of 10. The variety was good, food was flavorful and prices reasonable. The owner was the only one working so it took a bit for things to come out but we weren't in a hurry. We picked this spot based on the reviews and found out later there are only a few options in the off season, so we just lucked out. Don't be fooled when you walk in......this is not a typical coffee shop the menue is small but is the definition of variety. My boyfriend had a Cuban panini that he describes as the best he has ever had. I had the pork bimibap and ate every bite of the generous plate. read more

Breakfast Burrito and Seafood Chowder were both excellent. Some small tables outside make a pleasant place to sit on Main St., right across from the Congregational Church. Large public parking lot in the rear. Only dissapointment was the bathroom: they don't have one. Instead they send you down to use the public ones in the parking lot -- which were fine and not far away, but would be difficult for people with limited mobility or small kids to access quickly. read more

Have been coming to Chatham for ~10 years and it's always been hard to find interesting flavors if you don't want more traditional seafood. I came here twice on my last visit and had the Hola Burrito and the Tikka Masala plate. The latter was outstanding, certainly the only food of the subcontinent you're going to find in these parts. The burrito was even better, I think, for the way it combined usual burrito fixings with savory Nepalese seasoning. Such a great addition to the food options here. Service maybe a little slow but the atmosphere is nice and there were lots of people there both times I went. read more

We've been coming to Chatham from RI for 25 years and have eaten at most restaurants in the area. The Public Cafe is the new cafe on the block and unless they find a larger space in Chatham, they are here to stay! My husband and I ordered the Mediterranean Veggie Panini and the Avocado Grill Cheese and shared. OMG. Delicious! Both came with Cape Cod Chips and a pickle. Fresh Sourdough bread for the Grilled cheese and Multigrain for the Veggie panini. Both had a crunch from the grill. I'd have to order them again but they have a good selection of other options I'll need to consider. We both ordered cold brew coffee. And they gave me a small cup of the seafood chowder that was so good. And the people working here are so pleasant. There will be a queue out the door when summer returns. read more

What a great hidden jewel! Lucky for Chatham that Hari, former Executive Chef at Scargo Cafe, decided to branch out on his own and open the Public Cafe. I love his sandwiches. Personal favorites include the avocado and bacon grilled cheese, Mediterranean chicken and the cuban. I recently tried the Hari salad and was not disappointed. We were visiting the area for a week and my husband stumbled upon this cute little cafe! I must say it's probably the best thing we've had to eat all week! The seafood chowder was delicious! After hearing that Hari Rai had just opened his own Cafe in Chatham, 4 of my friends and I came by for lunch and were blown away by how good it was. We all sampled each other's food and couldn't decide which was best. The seafood chowder was great and the special chili soup was also, so we instantly renamed it "The Soooo Good Chili Soup", perfect for a cool, breezy day. We shared Momos, Paninis, the Hola Burrito & the Chicken Masala was to die for! Dessert was Hari's special recipe Giant Cookies with perfect Cappucinos.
