On a weekend trip with a friend. We ate dinner at Puffabelly's after walking around the shops a bit. We were not impressed with the cleanliness of the table or condiments containers on the tables. We had pretty good service. Guess I can't complain, we had 3 different waitresses but they didn't seem to know the other had already served us so there was some confusion. My friend's hamburger was pretty good. I had the fried tomatoes and pickles and the plate held a huge amount. Got SO sick afterwards but that was probably my own poor choice. I guess there wasn't much we were dissatisfied with aside from the dirty environment but that makes a big impact when you are eating :-) read more

Good food and service was okay. My husband ordered fried catfish. He said it was the best tasting he has had in a restaurant, even compared it to his grandma's cooking. I had grilled chicken n salad. My only complaint about the food was my chili. It was loaded with jalapenos, so hot my Midwest tastebuds couldn't take it. I ate two bites and that was enough! We would go back. 2.99 for a huge soft drink is ridiculous, chili is 7.99 for a bowl and was horrible. The bowl is a true 5.99 value, burger was frozen patty and frozen fries for $10 which should be a 7.99 meal. Cut a potato and hand prep a patty and 9.99 would be fine. The service is good but the food is overpriced and horribly gross now with zero effort put into buying decent food or cooking it with minimal skill. Puffabelly used to be good restaurant and my family would eat there a few times a month but we have gone less and less and my last meal there will be my last. Plenty other places in Old Town Spring to eat if you must eat in that vicinity. read more

First time to visit. Showing a client in the area and always wanted to stop in, so in we went. Fun, casual atmosphere (client will bring family and kids next time). Food was outstanding. I ordered the chicken fried steak burger. Order the wheat bun (they bake them fresh!). Too big to finish! Man was the good and fresh. Puffabelly's is my favorite Wednesday night music venue. The food and service have both been good each time we are there. Owner Seth is friendly and Davin James is over the top. Davin's guitar playing, song writing, and singing are impressive. I own everything he has recorded and have purchased his music for gifts. Not recommended. Nothing homemade...just all Sysco or GFS food heated up. Place feels really dirty too. Sticky tables, sticky floor, dusty fixtures. Service not great either. We gave this place a try since we were in the area and it was all-around terrible. The food was blah, salads were wilted and my potato was under-cooked. The service was awful! The young man waiting on us seemed new so we were polite, patient and tipped well despite the experience. Poor guy couldn't remember to bring anything we asked for so we just gave up! SUPER cute place! The decor is fantastic. It's a burger joint, but it's really classic yummy food. The cheese puffers are worth ordering just because of how hysterically cheesy they are. We've tried them over the years, about every two to three years since they opened. Each time it's been bad food, bad service, bad parking and higher prices. WHY do we keep going back you ask? Well, to be perfectly honest, I am either not very bright, or I believe that people can and should change for the better. Today was the deal breaker. NEVER AGAIN! I wished I didn't even have to put one star. We need a system of negative stars as well! Let's start off where I did. We had been out all morning on errands and both needed to use the facilities. Three toilets: one was stopped up and I won't go into more detail; let your imagination run wild! One the door refused to shut or lock, and the other one WAS locked. So, I got to go in the one with the open door, next to the stench of death! Then I had the pleasure of getting the front of my clothes soaked and having no towels accessible. The towel holder was broken. The roll of towels sitting on the counter were soaked on the bottom, had other people's wet prints all over the top and of course wouldn't tear off. Now, let us go to the food...perhaps the restroom was better? I think it's truly nice that they give you free peanuts, granted, they aren't the best quality; but they ARE FREE. My only suggestion with that: they are in metal tins that are VERY rusted, on purpose I'm sure, for some kind of 'ambiance' (they want you to throw the nut shells on the floor). But, I was afraid of getting cut & needing a tetanus shot...so just be careful with your kids. Anyway, we got the Friday Fried Catfish basket special for $10. Hubby said the fish was very good! The hush puppies were so hard you couldn't eat them and the fries were mealy. I got the lunch special cheeseburger for $8. I don't think I've ever had a cheeseburger with absolutely no taste...none, not good, not bad...nothing. It was served with what must be the house specialty: mealy french fries. I don't even want to discuss the disgusting mildew that was growing on the bottom of the squeeze jars of mayo, mustard & ketchup. BUT I WILL! I refused to touch the condiments after feeling the gook that was on the bottles. I wrapped a napkin around the mayo, then I see it: the mold and critters on the bottom of that white squeeze jar! Where's my side order of antibiotics I wonder? We also chose to get the Texas Sampler appetizer for $12.99: "A combination of Texas Toothpicks, onion rings, fried green tomatoes, fried dill pickles & Puff-A-Peppers." The Texas Toothpicks were so burned, I had to ask the waitress what they were! They were completely charred...perhaps remnants of when the place burned down some years ago. The three onion rings were DELICIOUS! There were plenty of fried green tomatoes (hubby said they were good). The fried dill pickles had very light and quite unusual batter on them, which was good. But the pickles were so salty I felt like a big ole cow going after a salt lick! We haven't tried the peppers yet and I won't really be able to comment on them, after being warmed up, that wouldn't be a fair assessment of them. After I asked the waitress what 'these' (Texas Toothpicks) were, she attempted to speak to someone in the kitchen. It didn't sound like it went over very well. We heard a disturbance in the force, but really couldn't make anything out. I thought we might get a fresh sample size order of the Texas Toothpicks, or a small discount, a $5 gift card, heck even a free cup of coffee. Maybe, just maybe, a simple, I'm sorry about that. Nope, what we got was an "OH WOW! Let me go tell the cook about it." As we continue on our journey through the Old Texas Depot; we shall now go to the counter, where I have to finally tell the kid how much our bill should be, are shortchanged on our money back, and after that is corrected, ultimately are overcharged by 62 cents. I thought, forget it and we left. Perhaps they should get a real cash register instead of making those poor kids try to add everything up on an old small hand held calculator! And then when he asked me if everything was alright, I was really tempted! But, I had heard the waitress get an obvious a$$ chewing and figured this poor kid wouldn't get anywhere either. read more

We were very disappointed. We love Old Town Spring. Our favorite place was not open so we tried this place. Food was very underwhelming. Mushy French fries and the burger was very blah. No flavor at all. Take out advice and go to Wunsche Brothers Cafe & Saloon. It's the best! read more

Wow, It takes a lot to dissapoint me this badly. We have driven by for years and after finding an online deal we decided to give the cool looking place in Old Town Spring a try. We went on a Thursday evening, which we found out was open mic night for the local musically inclined. I liked the old rustic interior that fit well with the Old Town Spring area. We noticed that they attract a lot of groups for each night (live music and open mic nites) to draw in the regulars. This place seemed more like a groupie hangout for the typical hippie Austin crowd than a professional restaurant. We asked for water with lemon or lime and ordered from the menu. The water came out with a dried up little sliver of lime clinging to the rim of our glasses, the first sign of things to come. 5 minutes later the waiter comes back and informs us that they were out of the jumbo shrimp that came with the grilled catfish and could they substitute hush puppies? We agreed, but I was dissapointed that wasn't told to me before I made the meal selection. Then to our amazement, the waiter came back and informed us that they were also out of the baked potatoes I had ordered as a side. Then to our amazement, he asked if we were ok with just the salad(which had not shown up yet). We asked if they had fries to substitute, they did, so we told them we'd have that. The waiter then went to the table next to us and told those patrons that they were out of fried okra! Well, they brought out the "salad"...wow, a saucer sized plate with a tiny amout of iceberg and what appeared to be a couple remnants of carrot shavings, really pitiful. The main course arrived and the trend continued. The substitute hush puppies were ok other than only being 2 small hush puppies inplace of the 3 jumbo shrimp they were out of. The grilled catfish was greasy and under seasoned, the fries were ok. Our other dish was Chicken Fried Chicken, the batter was crispy on the outside but total mush inside with the chicken breast swimming in grease. The mashed potatoes had a hint of a burnt taste to them but were otherwise ok, and the corn was plain but tasted fine. We are never super critical of restaurants that may have an off dish or night but this was such a poor experience we had to complain to the staff that we would not be returning and why, then we decided to share our experience with you guys to help you avoid a similar experience and possibly encourage the kitchen staff to raise the bar. We just strolled along Main Road, to shop a bit for Christmas and got hungry, so we stepped in. It is an old depot and i looks like it. We saw right away the peanut shells under the tables and it looked a bit dirty all around. An atmosphere as such you would not expect at lunch time, wouldn't you? So service was good and we could quickly ordered the meal. And than we tried the peanuts from the tin. Break the shells, eat the nuts, wipe the shells from the table to the ground. Always wanted to do it :-) The portions of our meal were quite large enough and the french fries have been the best I have eaten so far. Crispy outside, and with the right consistence of the potato inside, not too big, so they would stay just mash, not to thin so they would be baked through. Real good one.The baked potato was nice as well, fully loaded and inside just firm not too soft. Good cook they have their. By the way, we went there on the day after and had the Chili and french fries. Good and big enough for a meal and the Chili was very tasty with the right amount of spices. The best part of the meal was the sweet tea. I ordered the catfish and shrimp. I ended up getting a to go box and gave the catfish to my dog. I figured he licks his butt and this was about the same equivalent. The fish was little strips that were over cooked. I've had better shrimp on the side of the road out of the back of a van. The meal also came with fries, that were probably swept up off the kitchen floor. The hush puppies were just mediocre. This was a major disappointment. Will not be going back. read more

Haven't been here in over 2 years thought i would try it again. Never coming back. Had to wait forever for a table even thoigh there was well over 10 tables empty. Took 20 minutes to get an ice tea. The bar didnt have 2 of the beers i tried to order. Food was subpar and i thik my shrimp either was undercooked or not fresh. Ran out of potatoes (it was 1pm when we got here). Restrooms were dirty. 1 light in womens. Non flushing toilets in mens restroom and smelled awful. Asked server to bring me water before my food arrived. It was delivered till the server brought my check. Needless to say skip this place. read more

Great Texas comfort food. Had the chicken Fried Steak and loved it. The waiter was a young man and did fantastic job.

The food was terrible. My husband and I were looking forward to good, authentic food. I got the hamburger steak, green beans and fries and he got the chili and a dinner salad. The salad was old, bagged lettuce. Green beans were from a can and the chili also came from a can. The grated cheese had white film on it since it came from a bag as well and was old! The fries tasted like they had freezer burn. They did give us a break on the price because it took 45 minutes to get our food. Super disappointed and disgusted!!! read more

Was there for 1st time w/friends on Sunday. Wanted CFS but since we'd be walking OTS, decided a salad was better so I wouldn't be weighed down. Ordered grill chicken salad, others ordered mushroom burger & cheeseburger. They loved their burgers, my salad was so-so. Chicken a little dry around the edges making it a bit tough to cut & chew. Also asked for bleu cheese dressing but they were out. Also believe I was suppose to have eggs on my salad but none came w/it. Just a big bowl of iceberg lettuce, carrots, toms, purple onions, grated cheese & chicken. For $10.95, I was expecting better. Now seeing the CFS on other tables, I'd come back for that. The atmosphere is cute & the sweet tea hit the spot! Service folks also friendly. read more

I've eaten here many times and have only been disappointed once when they were out of their Texas Toothpicks. I normally get a hamburger, but the chicken fried steak and chicken breast (I don't remember if it was grilled or baked) are also good. I have always had good service, and they have been especially helpful when we have been there with small children. read more

We had a late flight so decided to go to Spring TX. What a great place for shopping and walking around. We ask around for a good place to eat and Puffabelly's was recommended. It was a great place. Very roomy and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I had the Chicken Fried Chicken it was wonderful, gravy was delicious. My sister's had hamburgers and they loved them. My other sister had some Catfish and Shrimp. I tried the shrimp and it was as good as any Southern fry I have ever had. I also a Not your Father's Root Beer float it was delicious. Would recommend to any friends and family. As a side note I left my phone in the public bathroom :-( and did not discover till about 30 mins later. Ran back to restroom and one of my sisters had called my phone. Some very nice honest people answered and were looking for me. I got my phone back with everything CC and ID. I was so thankful. Wish I had thanked them more than I did. read more

My first and last experience with this establishment was extremely disappointing. After being seated, our waiter passed by our table without an acknowledgement twice so after 5 minutes I asked the hostess if someone could get our drink order. Someone came over and we got our drinks, and finally our waiter made an appearance. By this time a large table had been seated, as was another two top next to us. I waited fifteen minutes for my salad, and noticed the two top that was seated after us already had their meal. I asked about my salad and the manager brought it out, as I watched our waiter taking the food order for the large table. Probably the best time to do that would have been after he brought my salad out, which was close to room temperature when I got it. As I suspected, my entree came out just a few minutes after my salad, something I do not like. I prefer to enjoy my salad first, and guess what? My entree was room temperature as well. I spoke to the manager who was apologetic, and I paid and left. If my experience is typical, I can't recommend this establishment.
