Punjab Palace is a classic Riverside staple. Been coming here for years, and it's my first time since I moved away 6 years ago and I will definitely say this place is still amazing! I called on a Friday evening and ordered to a chicken masala and garlic naan to-go, and they said it would be ready in ten minutes. Got there in in less then ten minutes and it was good to go! The staff was super friendly and served us very promptly. When we got home the food was still really warm. The chicken was really tender and packed with flavor. I, for one, LOVE chicken tikka masala. Fortunately, the bf and friends love it too. So yesterday, for dinner, we went to get our favorite chicken tikka masala from Punjab Palace. They were closing soon, but the workers were still very kind and accommodating. We knew what we wanted so we ordered right away. We ordered 2 orders of the Chicken Tikka with 2 garlic naans and 1 regular naan. I was originally tempted to order my own dish, but later decided to share with my friend, and thank God for that. Initially the dish looks fairly tiny and you wonder if it'll be able to feed 2 people, but it can. The rice is actually more filling than it looks. And we all left stuffed and satisfied and very happy. The chicken tikka is delicious and the chicken is tender as always. The garlic naan is to die for and the interior has a very home-y feel that makes you feel as if you're eating in someone's living room. I am not a vegetarian, but I find myself reaching for vegetarian options, they are all so amazing. Saag Aloo is cooked spinach with potatoes, Paneer Masala is homemade cheese (paneer) with a tomato/bell pepper sauce, and Aloo Paneer consists of cheese, potatoes, and peas. I really can't say enough good things about this spot. Their lunch specials are really good sized and priced well. I always order chicken tikka masala here with garlic naan and it has NEVER disappointed! Rice is automatically included, which is also nice since many places have stopped doing that. If you're ordering for to go, make sure to request napkins and silverware if you'd like it, because they don't put it on unless you ask (which I personally like as it's better for the environment). Punjab Palace is quite honestly the best Indian restaurant I've tried. I've been to every Indian restaurant in riverside and Punjab Palace always takes the W. Flavorful and consistent. I've ordered from here just about once a week because it tastes just like a home cooked meal made with care. If you're new to Indian food I'll make some recommendations that I've liked from Punjab. Grab the Sampler it has some great comfort food starters. Vegetable Pakoras are my #1 go to with the tamarind sauce. Chicken tikka masala, chicken tandoori (Indian bbq chicken), Bengan Bharta (delicious eggplant dish), the Mulligatawny is aromatic and wonderful, and chicken curry are some of my favorites. Always get Naan, my favorite ones are the cheese, and garlic one. I believe they are made traditionally in a tandoori oven because it's spot on. Finish off with some Gulab Jamun As far as customer service goes they're very nice, and just remember this is a family owned business you won't get chick fil e customer service. I'm really giving THREE STARS, but they were all nice and so I'm just telling YOU and them, it is 3 stars. Yummy food, nice staff. The deductions come from having to eat our (NOT cheap) dinner paper plates with plastic utensils. Accompanied by cheap napkins. The server explained why, so sure. Other small things were, the shrimp in my otherwise delicious masala was overcooked. A common but unfortunate thing. The goat pieces were chewier selections than I am used to. And medium spice here is definitely HOT. No problem, lessoned learned. I'll do mild here in the future. And further, the place could use some cleaning/maintenance. A good cleaning of the booths, and a clean up outside by the handicap ramp. A plant and debris are all in the walkway. But the real bummer came when I spilled one of my delicious entrees on my table. it was the outside of the table and onto the floor. We had barely served ourselves so it was a super bummer. She Kindly offered to replace the dish, so that was great. But then she came to clean the saucy spill off the table with just a few of those cheep napkins. Leaving a good amount of the sauce still swished all over that side of the table. ok.. I figured that was a temporary fix and she was gonna come back with a wet cloth and clean the table. After watching for a good while I realized, no. She's not. So I called her over and asked if I could have a wet cloth to finish cleaning the table. "Yes, yes" she goes off and comes back with ... two more cheap napkins. (Befuddled.) Why not bring a wet cleaning cloth? She proceeds to wipe and swish the sauce around and off the table as much as one can. I didn't understand. It was only my mother and I there at the table so we didn't have to use that side. Still, it just gave me extra side eye. If we had another person at the table I would have gone to get a wet papertowel from the bathroom to wipe it off decently. NONETHELESS... The food was yummy and well seasoned, and the staff was essentially nice. So I'm technically giving 4 stars and hoping there might be some little improvements if I go back again. This is a typical buffet that is available all over Southern California for $8.99. Vegetable munchies (Samosa, Pakora) and non vegetarian munchies (Chicken Tandoor, Fish fry) Vegetarian curries (Daal, Potato Cauliflower, Palak Paneer, Mushroom masala) and non vegetarian curries (Chicken curry, Chicken Tikka Masala) Dessert (Gulab Jamun, Kheer, Kesari) Salads, Fruits and complimentary Naan. Total for the three of us was $30.00 including taxes. Pros: Naan was delicious. (+1) Very prompt service with removing dishes, filling water, requests about naan, paper napkins etc. (+1) Adequate seating in 2 rooms, and adequate parking. Cons: Chicken tandoor as well as Chicken Tikka masala's meat tasted stale. However the chicken in the Chicken curry was fully cooked and tasted very delicious. The lunch special is good and also at a decent price. Their naan is sweetly toasted and has a subtle garlic taste. However, their service is slow. We asked for the naan, then waited for a long wait of probably 20 mins. We asked again, and then they finally brought it. Unfortunately, the worst part of this experience was the metal we found in our meal. We were eating the chicken masala when we found a huge piece of metal, almost like a nail in it (Pictured included). It was disappointing. Furthermore, when we told them about it, they barely gave a care. They acted as if this was normal. He saw it, shrugged then walked away. Nothing more. No apologies, no discounts, nothing. After ten or so visits, most of which were for the buffet, I can conclude that these guys do it right. For $8.95, the buffet is outstanding! Even a vegetarian could get stuffed on somosas, paneer, and other non-meat options, but they can have that, I am unabashedly carnivorous. Sometimes there's goat, sometimes there's lamb, but always 2-3 types of chicken, plus rice, dal (lentils), fruit, salad, fresh naan, and dessert. I am glad this location opened as it is much closer to me than their original restaurant by the Tyler Galleria. Strongly recommeded. I will order off the menu for dinner though, as the buffet usually ends around 3pm. TL;DR : A must stop location in Riverside! Punjab Palace is high on the Yelper radar because it has a nice rating. Indian buffets usually have solid rating because well it's Indian and it's a buffet. I went with a friend during dinner and it was so delicious! Our waiter was attentive and would notice right away when we needed more water. The prices are reasonable as the portions are pretty big! We didn't even finish our dinner and we asked for a box. We received plastic containers, not the ones that you get at Denny's or Chinese food places, they were round with lids. The pictures so far on YELP depict this restaurant as fast food style and don't do it justice for dinner. Although dinner prices ($12-$17) are much higher than the lunch buffet, it is indeed a full service restaurant with elegant dishware and glasses. Complimentary to every table comes these taco look a like items served with chutney / tamarind. The "tacos"are light and are reminiscent to complimentary salsa and chips at a Mexican restaurant. Besides the typical entrees, if you are feeling mighty hungry try the combination meals at the end of the menu. They are a few bucks more but you get more variety and even the garlic naan ( 4 pieces). I ordered the Punjab special which came with chicken tikka , lamb , saag ( spinach) , chicken tandoori ( came on the side) and came rice with dessert as well. The naan was tasty though I'll admit I've had had better. I would have preferred more garlic On this and less burnt areas. For everyone wondering how the chicken tikka masala was ...it was so delicious. It was dark red and buttery. Chicken was all meat chicken cubes. For spice level choose mild , medium and hot. I chose medium and decided I probably could have went with hot. Medium was not spicy at all, in my opinion. It's equivalent to a "3/4" in most Indian restaurants. Service was fantastic. Water was refilled Everytime. They were polite and attentive. Some don't speak English that well so be patient ! I asked a few times what certain items were and I couldn't quite understand them and I think they were trying their best to tell me they couldn't tell me exactly except tell me the name of the dish. I have been coming to this place for the last 7 years or so. I'm addicted. Sometimes I would go 2x a week. I know I have a problem and I'm not gonna get help for it. I LOVE this place. They have the BEST naan (not too doughy and not paper thin and hard). Their chicken tikka masala is perfectly creamy with the right seasonings. It doesn't taste like some cooked chicken dunked in mediocre sauce like other places. Their paneer tikka masala is amazing too! The saag paneer, the palak paneer...ALL OF IT! As you can see I'm a regular. And that lunch buffet! Can't be beat. They are also so warm and welcoming. When I moved from riverside to LA I tried multiple Indian food restaurants from Hollywood to Artesia and none of them could compare. I have driven to riverside when I'm craving it especially bad. Participated in a delicious dinner with a dozen of us: we sampled several classic dishes from vegetarian curry to seafood and goat specialties. All were tasty. The naan and rice were also fine. This fine restaurant deserves more diners. It is located in a worn down neighborhood mall with several homeless wandering about, like India.
