I've literally never written a Yelp review before, but here I am because I feel like Dr. Lodha deserves it and it's well overdue since I've been recommending him to all my friends and family for years now. I've been seeing him at Pura Dermatology for probably 7 or 8 years now. I keep coming back every year, and will be before either I move out of the tristate or he does. He's solved basically every skin issue I've brought to him including some stuff that other dermatologists couldn't figure out. Beyond being a great doctor he's also just someone I actually enjoy seeing, which I'd wager is rare feat for a doctor. Overall I recommend him highly. Beware of this place - total scam! I went in to remove two tiny warts, and the procedure took less than two minutes. After my visit, I started receiving endless emails and letters demanding different amounts of money each time. Despite already paying over $200, I'm still being harassed with letters--now even from debt collectors--asking for more! This is absolutely ridiculous and feels like nothing but a money grab. Dr Lodah is an incredibly knowledgeable dermatologist. Most importantly, he is kind, listens to you without judgment, discusses options, and is honest about expectations and results (today's visit was for alopecia, and the regular check up.) I have never had to wait more than 5 minutes ( unless I was late to the appointment) to be brought into an exam room to discuss the reasons for my visit with an assistant, and see Dr. Lodah almost immediately after. The young ladies at the front desk are are responsible, respectful and have never caused me any excessive wait time. I get written instructions upon leaving, and the information for his practices preferred pharmacy. This particular pharmacy is a wizard at getting insurance to cover things they usually turn down. I was dismayed to see some of the negative reviews below. The clearly have not been going to the same office I have for over 3/4 years. I am really disappointed with Dr Lodha and wish I never got treated by him. I have a cesarian scar, and started seeing him to smooth out the scar that was hypertrophic, so he started giving me the wrong dose of steroid shots to create a smoother scar but instead he created a permeant indent to my scar and made it look 1000 times worst. Now as a result I will need to get a mini tummy tuck and not even a scar revision surgery because of the indentation and Permanant damage he created to my skin! Do yourself a favor and check other dermatologists in the city. I am glad he didn't have to treat my face! read more

I'm very impressed for the first time to find a right dermatologist in manhattan. I guess doing the research online is so worth it and I'm not surprised why Dr. Lodha has so many great reviews. The clinic is extremely clean and nice. Staff is very professional and friendly. Dr.Lodha really cares about his patients. Im already healing so well from today's procedure. I'm extremely satisfied to find Pura dermatology and Dr.Lodha. I feel so welcomed when I arrived by the friendly staff. They also practiced social distancing tremendously well, without making patients feel anxious or awkward. Im also delightful that I didn't have to wait long for my appointment when most doctors office makes you wait for awhile before your appointment time. My procedure was quick and painless. Finding a new dermatologist who really knows what they are doing and talking about can definitely be hard. Dr. Lodha is very knowledgeable and gives you great advice. I went in here for a keloid on my ear which has significantly decreased since the first visit, as well as my acne with the prescription. However there are definitely miscommunications with the front desk employees in scheduling what kind of appointment , appointment time, as well as billing and they could improve on that as it was quite frustrating and confusing at times. I would give a five stars for Dr. Lodha but keep in mind of the front desk and double check the schedule and confirm your reason for the appointment each time. read more

Dr Lodha did not take the time to understand my history and its impact on my situation. He looked at me for 5 seconds before coming to a (incorrect) diagnosis, which was incredibly disappointing given I have a history of nonclassical classical presentation of this particular issue. He did not care even though I mentioned. He also prescribed me a topical MOA which I've already been taking without asking if I've ever taken it. I was so dejected I didn't even bother to argue given he seemed unwilling to understand any nuance and more concerned with conducting appointments quickly. I was so disappointed in this experience. Luckily an opening came up at Weill Cornell today so I had the opportunity to see a dermatologist better versed in taking medical conditions into account who came to different and more appropriate conclusions than Dr Lodha. The timing was impeccable and it was a night and day experience. I would not come here if you have any medical dermatology issues. Seems better suited for surface and cosmetic counsel. read more

STAY AWAY!!! Came in to see Dr. Lodha because I had a very itchy breakout on my arm and several other parts of my body. Immediately he told me he thinks it's eczema and wants to do a biopsy. I have never had any skin issues and assumed a biopsy would mean a light scrape based on things I've heard from friends but next thing I know I have a chunk of my skin missing and he is stitching me up!!! I walk out of the office with instructions for how to care for this new hole in my arm and prescriptions for creams. During a follow up visit I explained to Dr. Lodha how upset I was because there was no explanation of what the biopsy actually entailed and none of these creams are working and that I feel completely taken advantage of and he could not care less. Fast forward a few more weeks, none of the creams worked and I kept getting breakouts so I decided to try a different doctor. This doctor saw me on zoom with pretty choppy connection but was immediately able to tell me it's BEDBUGS!!! NOT ECZEMA! Needless to say I would like to forget my experience with Dr. Lodha like a bad dream but I now have a pretty large red scar on my arm from the biopsy. read more

Every time i tried speaking, he would dismiss me and tell me to stop talking. I couldn't believe the disrespect i was receiving from this so-called doctor. When he told me to stop talking for the third ti e, i got up and told him, "You stop talking". This is no way to treat patients!!!! Have no clue how this place has good reviews. Dr Lodha seems like a smart guy, but the administrative element of his practice is really, really sub-par. You have to call several times to get an appointment and even more frequently to get any response or follow-up from his assistants. For example, once they gave me an appointment for 10:00am, I showed up, and the doors were locked. The secretary finally showed up at 10:30am and said she was sorry, she didnt know why I was given a 10:00am appointment since the practice didn't open until 10:30am. Several other times, Dr. Lodha wrote a prescription to be sent to his office. To this day, his office has never once called me to say that the prescription arrived. You have to call his office multiple times to follow-up on even the smallest detail (ie a prescription, a referral, a follow-up appointment). If you have time and an incredible amount of patience to slog through the lack of administrative structure for his practice, go for it. But if you need a practice to be diligent and responsive, you can definitely find better. read more

If I could choose negative stars I would. If I had the time I would send a formal complaint to the appropriate dermatologists control board (if there is one). This "doctor" abusively scraped off a mark on my daughter's back, without her authorization. She had this mark since childhood. A former dermatologist had told us to have it looked at every five years or so, and that's what we were doing. This guy just scraped it off without even telling us he was going to do it. She started to faint as she got up and he immediately knew what to give her, (it looked as if he had put other people in the same situation). He had a student by his side looking at the procedure. It definitely looked like he wanted a "teaching moment" and simply used my daughter. read more

Dr Lodha was great!! Our six month old baby had a pretty bad case of atopic dermatitis which would just not go away with the standard home remedies. He provided us with a treatment plan that included both immediate relief and more maintenance regime to treat her skin conditions - within days we had a beautiful pink baby again. And thanks to the maintenance therapy plan we have not had any major setbacks since. He also saved us money by directing us to a small boutique pharmacy which delivered the drugs directly to our house and was much cheaper than CVS! read more

Well I had my first visit to see Dr. Lodha after my fiance gave rave reviews about him. The office is far... FAR west... and by far west... all I would have to do is sneeze and I would be in Jersey. But its a very cute and very new doctors office with a very urbanite flare. The clientele is young and friendly as is the staff. The wait wasn't long and I was lead by Brittany into a room at the end of the hall. Again very clean and new but that's a big plus in my head because I feel doctors offices who are maintained inside and out care a lot about their image and reputation (which they should). Too many doctors offices get decrepit and they just don't care... and in general the staff is always bitter and rude which is definitely not the case here. The walls are a tad thin because if I listened closely I could make out what the other examination was about... but since there is one doctor at this practice, its not like multiple consults happen at once. Dr. Lodha is really nice and has a great energy about him which I like. ( Makes me feel a little bit like a 5 year old every time he gives me high fives but to each doctor their own. ) He definitely listens and doesn't make you feel rushed. So he nixed some products I use and recommended others for me to swap out for. We'll see how it goes... I'll update my post in a month with my results. But so far so good :) Inside tip: He's on zocdoc so making appointments is really easy. Stays open late on certain nights. read more

I've seen Dr. Lodha for years now as a patient and his office is always immaculate, his staff is friendly and well-trained, and his knowledge of medical dermatology seems unmatched. Dr. Lodha sees me predominantly as a cosmetics patient but he always recommends I do the preventive, not-as-fun stuff too. On every visit, I am seen quickly and efficiently and Dr. Lodha himself is kind, personable and professional. In fact, he follows every standard of ethics and professionalism I can think of. If and when prescribing medications, he always takes my personal budget into consideration and gives me advice on what to actually spend money on, and what isn't really worth paying much for. He is attentive; he asks a lot of questions and listens patiently to my answers before any treatment is administered. He always spends a lot of time in the room with me and I always look forward to my interactions with him. If you want to feel terrible about yourself, this is a great place to go! I went to this establishment looking for some guidance on skincare and it turned into an evaluation of several thousand dollar + ways to slice and dice my face. The dermatologist had a trainee in the room with him and proceeded to belittle me asking me if I even knew what retinol was, multiple times. With 3-5 cosmetic recommendations costing upwards of $4500 and telling me I would look MUCH younger (I am in my early 30's and take pretty good care of myself), I left there wondering what just happened and felt for the patients that go there looking for guidance on skincare. The doctor was rude, kept offering me his homemade products for sale, and It felt like a used car salesman for the face. I went for a few other opinions and had the opposite experience, which is the only reason I am writing this review. Treat your patients better, stop trying to upsell, and don't make them feel dumb. I do not work in the skincare industry so I may not know as much as you do about it, that is why I went to you for education, not belittling. Great way to train your staff by showing them how condescending you can be to your patients. read more

If you plan on getting blood work you'll be chasing down just to get the results. I had an appointment on 12/2 with Dr. Brown and today is 12/19 and I still have not received a call. I was experiencing significant hair loss so it was suggested I get blood work done to ensure there wasn't anything wrong with my thyroid. Dr. Brown mentioned that once she received the results via email she will contact me as well as provide me with information on PRP. After 2 days of getting my blood work I had not heard back. I called, and front desk reception suggested I have it emailed. I did just that with zero response. I called two days later and was told there were very busy and someone will call me back. Several days have past and have yet to get a call. Considering that there's a possibility that something might be wrong with my thyroid and I'm not being treated properly for it is an absolute disgrace. I'm in the service industry and the fact this can possibly be a medical issue I'm undergoing and I cannot get a call back is beyond. read more

Went here hoping I could find a solution to my reoccurring skin irritation. Upon immediate entry into the exam room Dr. Lodha was pushy and arrogant. He cut me off from speaking about my concerns multiple times and also felt the need to tell me "I don't take care of myself or my skin." Very unprofessional and genuinely uncalled for?! The entire appointment turned into a pitch meeting for his line of acne care products, which had nothing to do with my reason for me being there in the first place. With lots of doctors its really easy to feel like you are on a conveyor belt, like you have 2 seconds to get a word in before they tell you to leave, but this is NOT the case with Dr. Lodha. Given that I am meeting clients every day, I have a very high standard when it comes to my skincare. Dr. Lodha is an extremely skilled, patient, and knowledgeable dermatologist. He was thorough and patiently took the time to explain multiple solutions to my questions. He didn't try to oversell me; instead, he gave me a sample to make sure it was right for me before I committed to buying a prescription. Dr. Lodha has done more for my skin in three visits than my previous dermatologist did in two years. As another reviewer mentioned, He was very quick to put liquid nitrogen all over my face. This derm office is run by great staff but the doctor himself acts very disingenuous. After seeing him for the second time, I decided it will be my last. My first visit seemed okay and I thought i'd give him another try because of the great reviews. You will have no privacy in the room because there is always an assistant or someone else joining him. Both appointments were extremely fast and he barely asks any questions or seems interested in any remarks you may have. He decided to change one of the pills I was taking. So a day or two after my second appointment I went to my home Duane Reade and they told me I don't a new prescription on file. when I called them they told me they had sent my script to another random pharmacy who would mail it to me!! I did not ask for this to be done..... Gideons pharmacy called me about 10 times during work hours in the span of four and I finally couldn't take it and just paid over the phone to have it mailed......... Might I add that I requested to get the refill done at Duane Reade and it was actually CHEAPER. Very SHADY business . Their alliance with pura seems very shady in my book. In my 30 years of living in NYC i've never had an experience like this with any doctor. I have three coworkers who still see him and all had similar feelings about the gas and how they push to have your scripts mailed to you. Dr. Lodha really took the time to dig deep into the root cause of my acne. He tried several treatments until he found the right one and my skin has finally recovered after 6 years of cystic acne. I am still undergoing the final stages of my treatment to make sure that the cystic acne does not reappear, but my skin has been clear for a few months now. I will be back for treatment to remove the acne scars. Prior to finding Dr. Lodha, I had seen 3-4 dermatologists but never went back because it was clear that they were not concerned with finding the cause of the problem. They all jumped immediately to a solution that I did not want to pursue - Accutane. A million thanks to Dr. Lodha for solving a problem that had a largely negative effect on my self confidence. Follow-up on my first visit. By the way, this place deserves a 5 star however, one of their employee is ruining their reputation (see my previous review). I went in and was greeted by a pleasant young man who I had seen during my first visit. He was extremely professional and polite. I checked-in and soon after the doctor's assistant came to escort me into one of their private rooms where the doctor came and met me. Both the assistant and the doctor were very pleasant this time. Totally different than my first time. He even gave me a couple of pounds which I though set the vibe. I want to the front of the office when I was done to wait for copies of my biopsy when I see Taylor approaching the door (seems like she was getting back from lunch). She sees me inside the office through the glass and rolls her eyes at me when she noticed it was me. I'll leave it that since that was the only eye contact or "interactions" we made. The doctor's assistant gave me my copies and I left. I don't think I'll be going back to this office again since my concern has been answered however, if I do go back it'll be between the hours of 1pm-2pm when Taylor is on lunch. It's sad to have people like her working there ruining their reputation. I wish I would have had a better experience with her but not everything in life is going to be perfect. This place really deserves 5 stars but my experience with one employee wouldn't allow me to click on it. I'm only here to voice what happened to me and to use this platform as a source of venting and possibly forewarn anyone of what may happen to them. Don't let my decision deviate your choice.
