The location was in a quiet are a bit farther than the busy college neighborhood. Parking isn't too hard to find but just expect the usual street parking costs. I was surprised to find such a cute little shop nearby. We were immediately greeted and seated the moment that we came in, which was amazing. We ordered quickly and they brought out the sides right away. However, they didn't have any chicken? I originally ordered the spicy chicken bowl but they came over to explain they ran out of chicken so I ended up getting a kimchi bowl instead. The bowl was pretty good, I would say a bit bland but the portion sizes were generous and the employees came over the check multiple times. The inside was a bit dim and quiet but clean. Everything was pretty mediocre & was always expensive & tasted okay. To get some good korean food, I would go to San Jose when I had the time. I was excited to see Pyeong Chang Tofu in Berkeley. If you put yourself on the waitlist through yelp, you wont have to wait at the restaurant which is great! I was pleasantly surprised by the broth of the (galbi tang with lettuce) because it was very authentic and delicious! The biji jjigae also tasted very good and I would highly recommend it! However, the bulgogi was a bit too chewy and tasted more like a galbi than an authentic bulgogi. Their rice was also in a sot (different type of pot), so it tasted extra good!! read more

The complimentary banchan and tofu soup made this a hearty and reasonably priced meal! They served the best banchan I've had outside of Korea. The service was fast and attentive. Even though it was busy, the noise level was low; it's a nice environment for a casual dinner. Second visit: We split the bulgogi and were not disappointed. This was a lot of food for two of us! The banchan was a little different and all delicious again. Korean cuisine is social and meant to be shared, so portion-wise, two people can split a bbq or bibimbap. My boyfriend and I have "good appetites" (ha) and this was definitely enough. If you have a table of three or four, consider one bbq to share and 1-2 other items on the menu. Like, pools of oil greasy. It was also pretty expensive and it felt like the food had been sitting out for some time when I went to pick it up, which was right when Yelp/Grubhub told me it was ready. I enjoy going to the Pyeong Chang in Oakland so was very excited to hear that a location opened up in Berkeley! I generally order some variation of the tofu soondubu; however, last night I opted for something I haven't tried before which is the Al-bibimbap (basically a hot stone bibimbap with masago roe, oyster, kimchi & pea shoots). It was definitely tasty but personally not something I'd order again. I like that there is soondubu given as a side dish with the bibimbap, which definitely left me feeling very satisfied and full. I also shared a mung bean pancake.. I usually like these but I found this one to be primarily vegetables and flour and not as much mung bean as I would have expected. Next time, I'd probably opt for the kimchi pancake since it definitely looked crispier than the one I had. Service was pretty good with checking in on our table; however, on this particular night, they seemed to be running behind on making barely and mixed grain rice so was kind of bummed since they didn't seem like they knew what to do to alleviate that situation. Since this was the soft opening, there are definitely kinks that need to be worked out but the 10% discount helps! I'll definitely go back when things are looking to be more in order as I'm optimistic about their outlook. read more

Was driving by a few days ago and happened to notice this place I haven't noticed before and decided to stop by. We ordered the Kalbi Tang and Seafood tofu soup. Both was excellent!!! Both the beef and seafood had the authentic taste I'm accustom to getting only when I'm eating at Korean joints in the LA area. (Y'all know what I'm talking about, K-Town flavor.) There was a slight line but we were able to get seated in under 10mins. The greeter was nice and friendly. Our sever was constantly checking on us between taking care of the other tables. This is the first review I ever write on Yelp. I do not understand how this place gets so highly rated. I am originally from S Korea, and this place so overpriced given the taste of their dishes is meh and the quality of service, especially by the owner's son, is awful. - Taste: Their tofu soups are tasteless. They do not have any deep flavor that a Korean spicy stews have to have. Their side dishes are good, and the boiled rice is also unique but their main menus are not good enough to justify their price. I visited the original Oakland restaurant and it was much better there. I don't know what is going on in this branch. - Service: This is the most awful part of this restaurant. This restaurant is operated by the son of the owner of the Oakland Pyeong Chang Tofu House. He is just so rude and clueless about serving customers. I once asked to get some more side dishes, and he kinda yelled at me that they cannot give more unless I finish the side dish, which had one small piece on the plate. I expected he will just bring one more plate with the side dish. The worst part is that he unpleasantly touched my shoulder after yelling at me. Wow... I have never experienced this type of awful service in a restaurant before. If you want to have a quality Korean food in this area, go to a Bowl'd in Albany. Pyeong Chang Tofu in Oakland is also good. Gangnam Tofu in El Cerrito is awesome if you are fine with a short trip. If that rude Korean guy continues to operate this restaurant, I do not expect this branch will have the same taste and the quality of service as the Oakland one. read more

We went on a Saturday night around 7:20pm and waited about 30 mins. However, food was AMAZING! 5/5: We ordered the bulgogi beef and it was so tender and flavorful. Even though it was pretty pricy, the beef was so tasty. The portion was so big that even shares between 2 people, we were very full. It also comes with a side of Tofu Soup, which was also as good. Would definitely recommend and will go back. Also, they are giving out coupons for 10% off by the door. read more
