The bánh tiêu (type of Vietnamese donut) was fresh and still warm. It was still light and airy even hours after purchasing. I surprisingly liked it more than the bánh bò nướng. It had a subtle flavor and wasn't too greasy. Also, if you've never eaten it this way, definitely cut a slice of the bánh bò nướng and sandwich it between the bánh tiêu, game changer! The floor markings and line to purchase is honestly a bit confusing but if you follow the others...I'm sure you'll get to the register some time. After hearing my boyfriend rave about the banh mi's here, we decided to make a trip. It was about 11:30am on a week day and it was fairly busy inside, if you're worried about running into a lot of people. They have baskets full of pre-bagged baguettes, which unfortunately were not the softest/freshest they could have been (according to S/O). The situation was the same with the banh mi. The price is really good though; less than $5 for a banh mi. It could easily be double that price closer to the east side and beyond. This is usually my family's go to foe banh mi, dad still lives in the south end . Usually my mom or dad go in to pick up stuff. My dad sent me in this past weekend. Made the rookie mistake of standing line with people who were just waiting for fresh bread to come out of the oven. When you send me into a new place I tend to discover new things while waiting in line. Ordered shredded chicken and grilled pork banh mi. While waiting I ended up grabbing a bag of pandan sweet rolls and a container of Khô Gà Lá Chanh, this stuff is addicting. When I bought it I thought it was maybe some flavored dried noodles to snack on but it was chicken jerky seasoned with lime leaf, lemongrass, chilis and other wonderful ingredients. So much wonderful flavor packed in to this snack. Would definitely buy it again. Think it's often used to sprinkle on other stuff but we just ate it plain. Still on my quest to find the best banh mi. Checked out Q Bakery - one of the first things you'll notice about this place is that all the Asian grampas are buying a 2-3 bags of bread and that's it. So that alone tells me that the bread is good. I ordered the dac biet banh mi - it's how I establish that banh mi baseline. The bread was good. I see why they have so many bags of it on sale and why so many people are buying bags of it. The sandwich itself was solid but it was just a little on the dry side. Not sure if it was the layer of what kind of looked like pork floss meat or maybe there was less mayo and pate than other places. Q Bakery - Simply the Best (Banh Mi) I love Banh Mi. Crispy French baguette, lightly pickled Vietnamese vegetables, a few thin slices of jalapeno and of course pate' and pork. Q Bakery does all of these simply and with a level of perfection, consistency and care. Q Bakery is a bakery, they sell hundreds of their 10" baguettes rolls to the community and they're a testament to fresh baked quality. I loved the fresh veg, they could have been used by a food photographer as an art piece. As to the assorted pork items, all I can say is they added the texture, unami and flavor profile to blend with the other two elements. A quick note on the Jalapeno, it added flavor and a hint of spiciness but was not at all overwhelming. As Bret Michaels says, "Every Rose has its Thorn". The thorns here are the neighborhood is a bit rough (ex. broken car glass in the parking lot) and the bakery can be (deservedly) packed leading to a bit of a wait. But the crowd is friendly and the neighborhood is safe enough during the day. And for the best Banh Mi in Seattle - well worth it. I'm glad I bought 2. read more

Stopped here to grab some quick lunch. Pork Pate Chaud - This was excellent. I didn't expect something that looked that plain to be that flavorful. It didn't even need any sauce or accompaniment and I'd highly recommend it. Special Combination Banh Mi (#12) - This was very mediocre. The veggies and meat were fresh but the bread was just incredibly dry and mealy. It was begging for some sauce or anything to add some juice to the dish. We literally added in some hoisin and sriracha that we always have in the car and that made it somewhat edible but overall it was an extremely dry sandwich. Some pho broth to dip might have been a game changer here. Veggie Banh Mi (#17) - Same as the previous one, extremely dry. The one highlight here was definitely the king oyster mushroom that brought some nice flavor to the sandwich. This hole in the wall bakery tends to get crowded with folks grabbing bags and bags of fresh Vietnamese baguettes but - I come here for one thing only - their Pate Chaud! This light, flakey, and buttery heaven sent creation is hands down the best item here. Every time we've gotten it, it's been consistently delicious! The meat filling is always well flavored and juicy. Another item, such as their deep fried shrimp cake is wonderful too but it tends to get sold out often. The bakery is tucked away toward the back of the plaza on the left hand side of the giant parking lot. It can get missed but locals already know it well so it's hard to find the place empty. *vegan review* The vegan tofu/mushroom banh mi was the best I've had in Seattle! SO affordable for such incredible quality. When I went, the menu said that they used mayonnaise on the sandwich, but when I asked the person working, they said that they don't use it, so it's worth double-checking when you're there if the mayonnaise is an issue for you. Overall the BEST place to get a Vietnamese sandwich if you're craving and in the area. There's a lot of other Vietnamese deli's but skip those and come here! Whenever I'm around Othello, I make sure to pick up a tofu and oyster mushroom banh mi or two for the road. I've never seen any other place that sautés their tofu with (I'm guessing?) oyster sauce. This is a small bakery on MLK that has a variety of baked goods and sandwiches (banh mis). The baguettes used for banh mis are sold here for those who want to make their own sandwiches at home (I've purchased some for French dips before and they work great). They also have a case with a mix of traditional baked goods like croissants, as well as Asian items like Chinese donuts (which inspired my trip today). The case had a limited selection by the time I got there this morning, but everything that was still there looked good. The service is a little slow and lacking (my only interaction with the cashier was when she pointed at my bag and asked "how many?") but I was coming here for cheap eats not world-class service...and I got my cheap eats, so I shouldn't complain. While I agree with other reviews that their french bread and banhmi are fresh, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, very tasty and good value, their customer service is nowhere acceptable to me. On the day I visited, the shop has no checkout system. People do not form lines and cut in whenever. They allow customers to walk up to the counter and leave the cash without waiting for their turn. Over the 8 mins in line, I had many cut in front of me and not follow any social distance. I feel that though it's their customers that ruin the experience, it's also the shop's responsibility to direct the traffic and enforce the store capacity rule. This was my first time trying out Q Bakery. I must say my sandwiches were quite yummy. This place was definitely more banh mi sandwiches than it was a full bake shop. Lots of patrons going in and out buying bags filled of freshly baked baguettes. I saw maybe two handfuls of actually baked desserts. I ordered two banh mis, #11 and #14. I came here purely on a whim... just following my nose to the smell of bread. I was literally across the street at another block but the carbs beckoned me come. So I went.... Unbeknownst to me, they serve fresh bread that is apparently a thing to grab in the masses in paper bags. So even tho we had no idea that this fresh bread is a thing, we ended up standing around waiting for it and grabbing a bag. 50 cents for the medium baguettes and 35 cents for The small ones... not bad! I grew up with Asian bakeries surrounding me, so I had really high expectations, but this one still hits all the spots. Was yummy, but felt like it was lacking a bit of flavor in places compared to the ones at home that I've had in the Bay Area. The pandan waffle could've been a bit more flavorful, and also gets soggy really quickly as a heads up. Overall, if you're having asian sweets cravings, this'll cover all you bases.
