This bakery has the best pate chaud I've ever had! I usually order them in large quantities to bring to parties and so even after a few hours, they still taste amazing and fresh. I get asked every time by people that try them, where they're from, and I always refer them to Q Baking Corner. The owner is always very kind and helpful! I usually place the order the day before over the phone and the owner will ask for a deposit if it's a large one. I think it's great that they have the regular chicken and pork option but they also have a vegetarian version of the pate chaud too! The only downside is that you could place an order for 40+ pastries but still be charged full price for each of them. Ok...first of all, those that read my reviews previously, I'm all about supporting local and family own business. Q Baking Corner is one of those businesses, however, when it comes to quality, I tried but cannot find a reason to support this. Honestly, I'm not sure how the rating has been as high on this as it has. Granted that there must be a transferred of ownership recently as I know that there were changes in the furniture and layout of the shop based on previous pictures a few years back. Regardless, being right smack in the heart of the Vietnamese and Asian area filled with high quality restaurants, bakeries, Boba shops and everything Asian, how can anyone compare and give this place anything more than 1 star unless they have NOT tried anything here in San Jose! OK, to be fair, I ordered $60+ worth of food because it was my first time trying this so I thought I'd give it a good chance with different things from drinks to pastry to cake, etc... Let's start with the drinks, I didn't expect much as there were not many selection to choose from and those that available are pretty typical and limited. I tried their new seasonal winter melon drink. The cup was nice, the drink was bleh...pretty much just sugar water with ice. No smell or taste of anything, good thing it wasn't too sweet that would send me into a diabetic shock. Next come the pastry. I tried the pâté chaud. The pastry skin was crispy and flaky but I feel that this was a store bought ready made Pepperidge Farm Puff Pastry sheet rather than home made. There was no taste on the skin and usually, these should have an egg wash taste or feel to give it the golden looks, but these pate chaud do not have that. The meat was just awfully threw into the skin to give it "meat". The meat was overly pulverized where you can no longer feel or taste any texture of the meat and any other ingredients in it. The sweets, this was the biggest let down! I had so much hope and expectations coming to this place due to the pictures and high rating reviews. I love my mom and god blessed her for trying to keep her family fed by always trying to make food for us. She may not be the best and this is why she does not have bakery or restaurants, but man, my mom cream puff, taro cake and any other sweets she made are 100 times better than any of these sold here. The skin of the taro or cream puff is HARD! The cream puff has a huge hole on the bottom where the cream was inserted - signs of newbie and not professional baker. The cream filling was super disappointed as there was no smell, taste of the actual flavor it claimed to be. Overall, 1 star for the quality pictures that fill up my hope prior to putting anything into my mouth. Deducting the other stars for misleading and giving false expectations for the high quality of food as shown in the pictures. There are many other places nearby with better quality of snacks...heck stop by Target next door and you may be more satisfied afterwards! read more

I had recently ordered a tiramisu and picked it up today. I expected the traditional look and taste, but when slicing open the tiramisu the "cake" layers were in these thin slices that formed a circle. What did I just cut open because this is not your normal "two layers of a flat, circle of doughy goodness" cake. These look to be store-bought or pre-made as the browning of the "cake" is blanketing it so I don't even know how long these were made for. The texture is dry and tough, to the point of making me doubt on whether this even counts as traditional cake or tiramisu. The icing also seems a bit too sweet and overpowers the overall flavour of the cocoa powder and the cake itself. The overall balance of the tiramisu has just been cream, cream, grit of cocoa powder, and bricks of dough. I am not returning to see if this applied to every other cake.
