Thanks to Travelzoo and Yelp for finding this place! Ashley and I ventured south for New Years and I, like I always do, was looking for a deal in the Lone Star State. I found the dinner deal on Travelzoo for Q on the Riverwalk and am VERYYYY happy that I did! The Q is located in the Hyatt Regency. The restaurant has an open lay out that lets everyone walking by look in and drool over the delicious BBQ you are eating. Our server was very nice and attentive. The voucher from Travelzoo provided more food than we could possibly ever eat in one sitting, but I tried my damnedest to make it happen. We split the queso fundido appetizer, I had the full slab of STL style ribs, Ashley had the cedar plank salmon, and for dessert we split the chocolate carmel brownie sundae. Each of our entrees came with two GIANT sides. I had the mac and cheese and mashed potatoes, and Ashley did the mixed veggies and potatoes. The food was seriously amazing. I was so full by the time dessert came around that I asked for a box for the remaining two ribs (I know, I was ashamed too). I was hoping to finish them off later in the night back in the hotel, but I couldn't. There was literally no more room in my body to cram food. We rolled our way back to the hotel and crashed for the night. You know how they say everything is bigger in Texas? I had a pizza and salad last night at the QBar because the restaurant wasn't open. The house salad was just a bowl of frisée, which I hate, with a few slivered almonds, sun dried tomato and bottled Ranch dressing.. Yuk! The Caprese pizza was made on flat bread and looked good. The cheese had no flavor and the bread was soggy in the middle. Very disappointed in this restaurant. This morning I tried the Eggs Benedict for breakfast. The wait staff is excellent and so is the coffee. However the muffins under the eggs were not toasted and the Hollandaise sauce tasted like it was a mix. And it was expensive. Went for the salad/pasta lunch buffet. Keep in mind this was a very humid day, as a native San Antonian that's saying a lot. I had my hair up in a ponytail, ditched the blazer and had on flats since my office is a short walk from here. I start with a description of how I look since I think that played a major part in the substandard service I received at the pasta bar. Once seated with my salad I went to order my pasta. I got there shortly before a medium sized group of about 7 other business professionals arrived and stood in line after me. The cook told me aside that he was going to serve these people before me because they were "all in the same party" & not to worry because he had 4 skillets so the food would be ready at the same time. Why would this be relevant if it is a buffet and all the food is ready at the same time? He then proceeded to serve THREE people before me even though I had been waiting there a good minute or two before them and arrived at the restaurant even earlier than that. It was ridiculous and insulting. When I finally got my order (after he asked me again what I ordered because he forgot) some of the chicken was undercooked. The cook was actually fairly friendly and not at all rude about any of this but this was absolutely not how you conduct customer service. Impolite, improper and elitist. I had the cauliflower steak with zucchini noodles and was impressed with how good it was! To be honest I wasn't excited about it but chose it because I needed something gluten free and vegetarian. Q is a nice change from other other BBQ joints on the riverwalk. A little bit more upscale and trendy take on BBQ. What I liked best about Q is that they had BBQ from all over the World. You could try St. Louis, Kansas City, Korean, Thai, Brazilian, etc. I recomend the dinner for 2 where you can pick from several types of BBQ off the menu, split a salad and choose 2 sides. Q is a little more spendy than other Riverwalk BBQ joints, but this is a hotel-restaurant, and its a little bit nicer and secluded than most other Riverwalk places. It wasn't the best BBQ I ever had but it filled me up and the location was pretty fun. We skipped the buffet and salad bar, it looked pretty picked over and old at around 8pm on a Saturday night. read more

I'm giving this 1 star review not because of the food, the food MIGHT be great...the lack of service caused me to leave. Chose to come to this 4 star rated yelp restaurant because the pictures did make it look as though the good would be great. There was no hostess or sign to say seat yourself. Decided to sit at the bar because there were 3 bartenders. In the 16 minutes that I sat there, not one of them acknowledged me and my friend. They weren't so busy that they couldn't have at least said, "I'll be right with you." Like I said, the food may be phenomenal, but I can't rate on something I never got to try. read more

Lets see where do we start... We had a groupon and it was the last day to use it so we made reservations. They told us they were booked and the earliest was 8:30 which is absolutely fine. We arrived at a restaurant that was almost dead, maybe 7 tables total. We were seated promptly and after reading that the service was horrible i was pleasantly surprised. Then 10 minutes went by and we hadn't gotten a server, it was absolutely a mess. The hostess never got us the drink menu she had promised to bring. We finally had a server show up and took our drinks, which he expressed would be on the house. We ordered our cocktails, Whiskey Dew and something with guava. We waited 7 minutes and then had the manager show up and retake our drink orders and diapered. Seriously these people either are operating on 2 brain cells or have the memory of a gold fish! ( Also they had to "search for a drink menu" since it was packed with 7 tables!) We finally ordered our food had the Q experience ($32) and the Churrasco ($18) Had the Kansas style ribs, Cantonese, Korean and Tuscan. The Tuscan was breaded and inedible it was horrible, the Korean was fatty and hardy any meat, skip at all costs, it is tiny and worthless. The Kansas style was delicious and wet and dirty! excellent and the Cantonese were extremely tasty as well. The Churrasco was ok, it had one of each meat that they promise in a somewhat small size. But it was mostly good. We had 2 sides, both the Baked potato which they boast as soon to be famous and known for...err I believe they will be known for how horrible it is perhaps. over cooked the aged cheese was thick and like a blanket... The rotisserie veggies were pretty good on the other hand. They apologized a thousand times about the service, we never knew who our actual server was, we spent 2 hours! there and were offered a free dessert, which took about 20 minutes to receive. Now I understand BBQ is not made at the time of order since it takes hours to make so there is no need to BS and make us wait that long, Dessert is always pre-made, it was banana rum cheesecake err something, we took it to go. Also if you park in the Hyatt garage across the street keep in mind that it is only validated for 2 hours. We cut it so close, but made it by maybe 2 minutes! In a nutshell some of the food is delicious, there really isn't a happy medium, either you love it or hate it. Service is some of the worst I have ever experienced. We are great tippers and are super fair, but seriously they need to get their whole act together. I don't imagine this restaurant being around for a long time so go for yourself and be disappointing if you want. It is quite pricey for the lack of service and lack of knowledge by the staff. Fancy BBQ doesn't need to take a whole evening to serve! Will not ever return to this place, the Hyatt has made a poor choice in having this restaurant in it's hotel. read more

HOURS ARE WRONG- RESTAURANT NOT OPEN UNTIL 12AM (or they just didn't want to serve us, I hope it's not the latter.) So, after a week of travel and long day of driving, our family finally arrived at the Hyatt (where this restaurant is located). We were famished and options were limited. My husband and I debated while our stomachs growled. It was 10pm. Too late to take our young kids into the city, restaurants were closing and the night wasn't getting any younger. Room service? After being confined to a car all day, we all desperately needed some open space. There's a restaurant at this hotel, they're open until midnight! But is it family friendly? We looked up the menu, confirmed: they have a kids menu! So, we made the trek downstairs to Q Kitchen. There was a group of people seated in the otherwise empty restaurant. No one greeted us, we flagged down a worker who informed us we needed to ask the bar if we wanted a table. We shuffled into the bar (painfully aware of the fact that we had young kids with us in a bar while people sipped their old fashions and wondered why we were even there) and with the FOUR bar staff members-not one acknowledged us until I (again) flagged down someone and asked if we could please get a table inside the restaurant.) One person told us to sit anywhere, another person corrected them saying we could only sit on the left side of the restaurant. There's a certain point in your interactions with staff of an establishment that you just know you won't get great service but, again, we were already there and committed. It's too bad the staff here were NOT as committed. Relieved to be leaving the bar, we sat at a table on the far left side away from the view of the bar. They're trying to maintain a certain ambiance (we get it) we weren't trying to disrupt anyone's evening just get our kids fed. There's also a certain point when it's made very clear that you are NOT welcomed which happened right after we seated ourselves. A waitress actually came up to us (!) and, instead of greeting us, asked who seated us (the bar advised we seat ourselves, on the left, I told her) "You can't sit here" she snapped, obviously annoyed, "these tables are already set for breakfast, there's only open seating in the bar." I looked at the table, all it had was a plate with a selection of jams. We couldn't sit in the bar area due to it's pub height tables and conversational groupings of chairs, not at all conducive to dining with kids. I was taken aback by her abruptness as she basically dismissed us. The restaurant hours posted show it to be open until 12am? Since we obviously were not welcomed at the bar either, we picked up our kids and started to walk out "Why are we leaving?" moaned the kids "I'm sooo hungry" We told them it was closed. So now, still tired and hungry, we picked up our toddlers and left, embarrassed. We didn't want to give Q Kitchen any business (via room service) after that so my husband ended up running out for pizza late that night while we waited in the room. After devouring the cheesy hot slices of za, our bellies were full but the rejection from Q Kitchen still stung. They had many opportunities to offer some great customer service, all of which were completely missed, ignored, not acknowledged. Don't bother coming here. They'll just make you leave or make you want to leave. read more

Our experience very disappointed considering the mostly high reviews. We were looking for some BBQ and the brisket on the menu attracted us. Price was very reasonable at about $20 but apparently that was for the lunch menu which was still displayed outside when we went in. Dinner menu had it for $40. Once seated, it seems we never did get a real waiter. There was one, but she attended to other tables. She had an apron on and carried a order pad. Instead we were served by 3 different staff who were more formally dressed. One was the hostess who showed us to our table. She presented us with our menus. Then a staffer in coat and tie came by. We asked if we could order drinks before we ordered our meal. We were never offered a drink menu despite an ad in the lobby extolling the extensive beers and wines offered in the bar which fronts the restaurant itself. I ordered a frozen strawberry daquiris. The staffer asked if I wanted alcohol in it. Absolutely! My mate was having a margaritas. My drink came with whipped cream and a cherry on top! In 50 years of drinking cocktails from coast to coast, never have I ever had a drink with whipped cream and a cherry on top. I could not taste any alcohol in it. For $8 I trust it had a little. My wife's margaritas did clearly have alcohol in it but cost $12. For that price I would have expected a live band and maybe a strip show. (I later learned that was the large size as opposed to the standard size which we were not informed about.) A 3d nicely dressed staffer took our orders. When I complained about my drink she offered to fix me another one herself but I thanked her and passed. We ended up doing appetizers and salads since we could not justify $80 plus for some BBQ. The food we ordered was good. And the staffers we serviced us were nice and friendly but not really wait staff. No one came by to check on our progress, refill our water or see if we wanted any desert or coffee-- unlike the table next to us that appeared to have a real waitress. That's wait staff 101. I ended up having to wave both hands to get the attention of the hostess to get our check. When we were later asked by front desk management if all was to our satisfaction and told our story, we were immediately compted the entire meal which is a tribute to Hyatt in pleasing it's patrons. My-oh-my whereveah do I start *in best Scarlett O'Hara voice* I am staying here at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in San Antonio which is where Q is located. I wanted a quick salad and some dessert to go so I walked in and saw that there was no one in there. I was a bit surprised with the many conferences going on right now that the main restaurant in the hotel was closed. A hostess came by and saw me looking around like a lost little puppy and asked if there was something I would like. I said, well, you look closed. She told me that the restaurant was, in fact, closed (it was 6:30 pm on a Wednesday), but that the bar was open and yes, I could get something to go. She brings me the limited bar menu. It wasn't the same menu that was here on Yelp, and the one thing I was looking for (BBQ salad with Ahi Tuna) wasn't on it. I told her that I must have been looking at an old menu and not to worry about it. I was ready to walk away. But she was amazing. They brought me the full menu, and made it up for me fresh right then and there. As if that wasn't great enough, the Ahi was AMAZING. And there was no shortage of it, either. VERY generous with their portions. The service was spectacular and the food was top-notch. I think I'll eat there again tomorrow... read more

Before I do this review, I have to say that the Hyatt hotel is my fav on the Walk and The Landing (below the Hyatt) is my favorite bar on the Walk. That said, it wasn't a surprise that I wanted to try the new Q restaurant in the Hyatt. But putting my bias aside, this is an honest review of the Q restaurant on it's merit. So... We had a reservation for 1pm lunch, but it wasn't needed; the restaurant was pretty empty. Being a new restaurant and the start of spring break, that's not too unusual. We were promptly seated by the hostess. The ambiance is very comfy; kind of a modern look but not so much to take away from the relaxed atmosphere. The menu at first tested my acumen. It's a bit daunting to decipher but the wait staff is greatly helpful on walking you thru it (perhaps I am not so good at ordering anything past "Whopper with cheese... Onion rings... Large orange drink!" - it may be just me, my wife did just fine with it...). Our waiter was extremely polite and very diligent with his duties. Could not say anything bad about the service. Not only was he on top of things, the manager and hostess were making sure that our experience was good. I'm big on getting good service; and they were fantastic. The food: Very Impressive! We ordered a big wedge salad, a cilantro based dressing with salmon. Probably the best wedge salad that I ever had - honestly! And we split it and still couldn't finish it. It could have been the lunch all by itself. Next we order a half rack of ribs with a side of "Mac & Jack" (mac & cheese with jack cheese); delicious. The only downside was the brisket taco that we ordered as well. It was just plain. I was actually surprised after everything else was great (that's why this gets a 4 instead of 5). And the time it took to get our food was very fast, but I can't state that as a consistency because we weren't there during busy hours. Oh, btw - did I mention that all this food only cost us $25! Now that's a deal! Besides that, it was a great experience. Nothing else to say about it. Great food, comfortable ambiance, fantastic service. What else could ask for - oh! and access right from the lobby out to the Riverwalk. Which is where we are heading now for a Riverwalk tour boat dinner. Absolutely no idea why this place is ranked at 4 stars. Granted, I only had breakfast here but it was pathetic. I love the hotel - I stayed here for 3 nights, and it's arguably one of my top 3 favorite Hyatt hotels I've ever stayed in. It's embarrassing that the flagship restaurant is so bad. Ambiance - nice, the whole lobby of the hotel is fantastic and it carries over to the restaurant. If you "hate" being in a fish bowl you may hate this ambiance but I think it's fantastic. Furniture - what the hell happened?? I am a 6 ft tall guy with normal body proportions and when I sat on the chair I felt like I was a 5 year old trying to act up all grown up. The chair was too low compared to the height of the table so you have your shoulders lifted up in order to place them on the table and/or use utensil to cut stuff. Fix it - it's not rocket science. Food - Just meh. I make French toast that is at least 10 times better and I don't charge people $15 for it. For the price this better be fantastic - and it wasn't. It was dry and just flavorless. The fruit helped a tiny bit. And pecan? Really? There was perhaps ONE pecan slice that they crumbled into 10 absolutely miniscule pieces. The dish should have come with a magnifying glass to help find the pecans. Drinks - Hot chocolate with WATER. Enough said! It will cost you a grand total 20 more cents per order to make it with milk and make it right. I think you should if you want to charge $5 for this overpriced crap. So again hotel itself - great. This place is the absolute opposite. DO **NOT** GO HERE FOR BREAKFAST! read more

A decent hotel bar with great food too? Where does that happen? Well you'll find it at the bend in the Riverwalk where the Hyatt Regency sits, with their awesome Q Bar and Restaurant. I stopped in here twice during a recent visit to San Antonio, and was blown away the first night by one of the finest BBQ meals I've ever enjoyed, their dry rub ribs accompanied by a delicious carton of slaw and some awesome baked beans with chunks of meat. They are in the process of transitioning to a bourbon bar and had a barrel of something called 1792 from Buffalo Trace Distillery which was far better than the usual well bourbon. The only reason this did not earn that 5th star was the inconsistency of the service, not atypical in a hotel establishment, and the somewhat limited spirits selection. But much better than what you've come to expect in a hotel. read more

Really enjoyed the drinks at this place. I did not eat any of the food, but that looked oto be pretty good as well. They had a lot of local texas brews on tap that I really enjoyed. Also, the majority of their wine is Texas wine located in the hill country. They also had some California wine. Like most places the wine was over priced, but nothing out of the ordinary there. THey also had a good selection of cocktails. I had the lemon raspberry martini which was really very good. Sugar rim made it a little too sweet for me, but you can get it without the sugar rim. They also had a watermelon margartia with a spicy salt rim, it was also tasty. Overall this place has good service and I would return to the bar. read more

Very classy bar with a great staff and a great view. At night its even better with the bar very decoratively light which sets the mood for a nice relaxing night cap. Great seats with comfortable couches and private televisions as well. I recommend this place for a quiet and affordable drink without the hassle of the noise outside. read more

After a futile search for "authentic Mexican food " along the Riverwalk during my 3-day stay in San Antonio, I finally found "pretty good" Mexican dishes in the restaurant of my hotel .... The Q restaurant in the Hyatt Regency. I had the 3-salsa sampler -- salsas were very good, chips okay (I like my chips a little thinner and crispier, but I guess it's a matter of personal preference). Then I had their tortilla soup, which was surprisingly and amazingly delicious, The soup liquid (creamy tomato slightly spicy base) was poured over seemingly freshly grilled chicken, large chunks of avocado, and fresh finally chopped onion and mild peppers. I don't really know if it could be classified as authentic Mexican cuisine, but I enjoyed every bite/slurp. Service was friendly, efficient, and attentive. read more
