Q Kitchen did some things really well and others not so well, so the "A-OK" rating is appropriate. We had dinner at Q on a Monday evening. The dining room area was closed, so we had to sit in the bar. We had my 7 year old son with us, but the server advised us that children were permitted in the bar area until 9 PM. We were able to sit in a corner booth that was furthest away from the action, but be aware that this is a bar so depending on how crowded it is you may not want to eat here if you have young children with you. To start, we had the queso and salsa trio. These were largely misses. I would say the verde was the best of the dips, but that is not saying much. The guac was basically mashed up avocado with a hint of seasoning. Non tomato, onion, cilantro, peppers, etc. The queso was too thick and made with processed cheese. I would not order the dips again. To eat, I went with the salmon sandwich and housemade potato chips. The potato chips lacked seasoning and in some spots were not very crunchy. The sandwich, on the other hand, is the reason for the 3 star review instead of 2. The salmon was cooked very well. The BBQ glaze was flavorful and a bit sticky. The veggies were fresh and the aioli was flavorful as well. There was quite a bit of excess bread due to the size of the bun, but I just ripped that off. Very good sandwich, I would order this again. This is their pasta bowl. At least 1/4 of it was jalapeños. The serving size was very small. They weren't sure if they should use fettuccini noodles or macaroni noodles so they just used both. Heck, why not. The taste was horribly bland. This tiny little box of pasta cost about 30 bucks after tax. It honestly looked and tasted like they went to random downtown restaurants and asked them to throw any leftover scraps from plates in this box and called it a meal. There's SO MANY cool things you can do with cauliflower I think they should get rid of the zucchini noodles and focus on the cauliflower. Not enough flavor for that one. The q trio was good, salsa was better than expected. The brisket sandwich is large and was a little too saucy for my tastes but still good. The winter salad was a little too bitter, however. A Yelp event here introduced us to a barely hidden gem on the River Walk that I've overlooked for years. SO glad to have discovered this place. Will be back for dates on future S.A. visits for sure! Most places along the RW are tourist traps, with food typically ranging from mediocre down to hog feed. It's typically not very good and often downright awful, and you always overpay. Q Kitchen Bar had STELLAR food with personable and cool employees, a good vibe, and primo location. The honey ribs - YES! Like dessert. Sweet and savory with a little crunch. Fantastic. The quail ... wow, amazing. SO good. I think of quail as lacking enough meat to be worth the effort. This was fantastic and left me wanting more. (The problem with quail: not enough!) And the queso fundido... to even call it queso is a stretch. It was a magical dip, to die for - liquid brisket and cheese and other magical ingredients with the perfect mix of seasoning... I ate waaaay too much. Wifey had to roll me out of the place. Excellent beer selection. Plenty of local and Texas offerings. Meeting the chef and chatting with her was the icing on the cake. Great upscale taste on classic BBQ. Nestled in the Riverwalk Hyatt, Q is all sleek lines and high ceilings, but they flavor their meat well enough to taste the BBQ soul. I've had the traditional BBQ plates they offer, and they're great, but my last trip here was for the 2nd annual Urban Backyard BBQ. I thoroughly enjoyed the small plate offerings in a way that will pull me back over and over to nibble these noshes. I'm particularly partial to the Texas style poutine. Take some house made french fries, cover them with gravy and local cheddar cheese curds, and plop some pulled pork on top? Yes, please! I would not only like an order of these, but I'm like to be buried in them. The smoked steak sandwich is also incredible. Shaved strip steak, white cheddar, mushrooms, caramelized onions, and roasted garlic aioli served on soft bread. So hearty, but the flavors balance in a harmonious way. I really love the inclusion on mushrooms on this one. It adds some meaty heft without adding any more actual meat, making it really filling and satisfying without leaving you weighed down. These aren't on the website's menu, so I really hope that these weren't one time party offerings. If they are, I would highly suggest they make these regular offerings. This review is only for the taste and quality of the food. I went to this restaurant with a Hyatt employee so my view of the service and incentives will be biased. I ate at this location before it became Q - I went for the pasta bar, it was over-kill with huge portions and didn't seem that upscale. This renovation has made the Hyatt Regency's Q Restaurant a contender to the many fabulous restaurants on the Riverwalk. I mean hello, the restaurant name is 'Q' how much more hoity-toity can you get? "Q." "Q what?" "It's just Q". We started with stuffed jalapenos which were SO spicy (I haven't been living in San Antonio lately so maybe my tolerance is low). They were good and greasy because they were stuffed with sausage, but they went well with my heavy-on-the-rum mojito. For dinner I had the salmon which everyone said was delicious...but to me tasted like salmon. I guess it's delicious if you compare it to bad salmon. It was good, but it was built up so much it didn't really have a fair chance. The Mac and Cheese was good - very thick, very fattening. They gave me two servings on accident - I will only admit to eating one. ;) Best entree was the ribs. You can get them 1 of 4 ways or all 4 ways. We got them all 4 ways. I grew up eating ribs Dry Rubbed style and Q hit it the bulls eye. Perfection on those for me! The other options included: Tuscan Costine (this had a mild mustard flavor, which was interesting...), Kansas City (meh- why are we serving Kansas City style ribs in San Antonio?), and Jamaican Jerk Spiced (menu warns: "just plain hot!" I warn: 'Not!") So next time it's the Dry Rubbed for me all the way. Meat was smoked with oak wood, so it was very tender and delicious. We came here for happy hour at the end of the second day of a conference at the Hyatt hotel. We were very pleased with the drink selection, unique appetizers, and awesome service from our waitress, Brandi. Brandi really made what could have been "just another happy hour" totally fun and enjoyable, and did her best to convince us to stay with the Q on the Riverwalk for dinner. This review is for the Christmas day brunch buffet they had on offer. We didn't stay in the hotel and we didn't eat their regular menu. Make a reservation. We did on open table. I think they allocate an hour for you, but we weren't rushed out of the table - we tried to savour each plate and enjoy our experience, instead of hitting it hard like the Tasmanian devil and being stuffed after the first course! Lol! It was busier than I anticipated it would be, but not so crowded that you were all up in your neighbours business. $46 + tax and 18% gratuity (or there abouts) it worked out at around $116 for the two of us. This includes all the food in all the land, free champagne, mimosas, fruit juices, sodas, tea and coffee - which we didn't know ahead of time, but we were very happy to discover. I counted 5 courses, but you could probably count more or less depending on how many plates you use and how highly they are stacked ;) All of this is recalled from my food-coma memory, so bare with me! Lol! Salad bar: 3 types of lettuce, 4 kinds of dressing, and about 7-8 pots of "toppings", cucumber, onion, carrots, tomatoes, peppers, bacon and croutons. Behind the soup/bread there were also 3 drawers of salads, broccoli salad, pasta salad and what looked like sweet potato salad but I could be wrong. Fresh, fresh, fresh! As salads go it was delicious. Start small though, you wanna build up... Soup: butternut squash bisque - just a little cup, but dear LORD it was delicious. I could have drank gallons of the stuff! Don't overload on bread at this stage. DONT DO IT. 1 or 2 slices, max. Save the bread for the cheese course. We left the cheese and antipasti station for the moment, but it's right there - so you WILL be tempted. Entrees: carving station (pork loin, prime rib) here you'll find the mash potatoes, apple sauce, mushroom demi-gravy, and - weirdly, bread pudding. I tried the pork, it was great. It wasn't dry, the dude can slice as much or as little as you'd like. Prime rib was wayyyyy too raw for me but hubby loved it. Mash potatoes were EPIC. Hubby who doesn't tend to like potatoes, loved them. It was great to see brown jus-gravy and not thick creamy white gravy. On the other side of the salad bar, you have the other entrees, carrots and asparagus, crab topped rainbow trout, braised short rib, sweet potato mallow gratin, stuffed chicken breast, wild game paella... I'm not kidding, ALL THE FOOD IN ALL THE WORLD!!! I loved the veggies, the braised short ribs rocked my world, like freakin' amazing. The trout was perfectly cooked too. Least fave was the chicken, I just didn't care for the stuffing inside. Next it was the cheese, bread and antipasti/cold seafood. If you have room. The breads were fresh and delicious, the cheeses were just sitting right there - it was tempting to take an entire block, and hubby could have camped at the antipasti table all day....and night. If you've any room left, the dessert table is round the corner beside the bar. I had a small piece of cheesecake with raspberry couli which was light and tasty. I thought the cake was chocolate cake, it wasn't (unfortunately), it was the strongest coffee flavour EVER. Pass. Not my bag. I also managed half a slice of the key lime pie - hands down the single best key lime pie i've ever eaten...and wished I could have taken the other half back to the hotel in a box to eat whenever i'm eventually hungry again. Hubby also tried a swiss-roll type thing that he said was nice. Things they need to improve this fab meal: stuffing (it's CHRISTMAS dangit!!!!) custard and/or whipped cream and pleeeeease label stuff, you'd probably reduce waste if people know what they are picking up!! I came here as I was staying at the hotel. Twice while I was staying I had the pasta lunch special. It was a great deal and included the salad bar, which was very good and offered unique choices of premade salads. Also included your creation of pasta with lots of different ingredients to add. They make it right there for you. Additionally they have chicken, which looked good but I did not try, hot veggies and an assortment of desserts. I was pretty impressed by the meal especially for the price. On Saturday I had a burger and fries which were OK but nothing great. First Impression: When I stumbled into the building from the street, I saw the hostess warmly smile and take our groups table reservation. Not 10 minutes later, we sat down and I really got a chance to see the place. There were 2 chefs making your pasta to-order and they conveniently placed some buffet style proteins and veggies to the side with whatever sauces you wanted with your pasta. Also note that we went during a rotor club meeting so all I saw around me were little old ladies wearing large pins on their lapels chatting about who knows what. Food: The pasta I chose was cooked just past al dente which was fine, I'm easy to please as long as it's not boiled to death and falling apart. The sundried tomatoes went well with my chicken tortellini alfredo dish. I sampled the grilled veggies which were pretty good for buffet style and also the fish which was equally nice, light on the seasonings but delicate to the fork. The desserts later were the real Achilles heel. I sampled a few things and nothing really screamed fresh or signature. The cupcakes were a bit stale and the other desserts just seemed very much an afterthought. Service: The chefs were trying to get food out quickly understandably but I saw how short they were with one of my coworkers ahead of me so I'd make sure to have your order ready to avoid this altogether. Our waiter was fine and checked on us a couple times but otherwise left us to our cuisine. Not much else to tell. Final Thoughts: If you're in the area and want something less like McDonald's and more like a sit down restaurant without the typical waits, this is a perfect medium. I really liked this location and I love the upgrades. The staff was very friendly and quick to get your orders completed. The food really good and the serving size was enough for two people. The reason for the 3-star rating is that the bar area smelled like gross bacteria, like they needed to clean the beer drains or mats or whatever. This restaurant was in the lobby of the hotel we we staying in. The food and service were excellent. I can only vouch for the dishes we ate. They made us a custom veggie flatbread instead of what was in the menu. The street corn fritters were awesome. The Buddha bowl and cauliflower steak dishes were ok. Hello, So I am not sold on how the Q Kitchen Bar has gotten 4 Stars. The wait staff is not all friendly or welcoming. I really dislike saying that it might be related to either the color of my skin or how I am not in evening attire, but I am gonna have to go with the first because the others are not dressed their best. But, their color does fit what they project as this Bar's favorite customers. We were not greeted properly. There was a waiter cleaning a table behind us and never offered help until we commented if anyone would help us. And he was rude that our waitress would be around to help us. The waitress was polite but it felt forced. I asked her what desserts they have to offer but she quickly pointed me to page 4 of the menu in a rude way. This is my first time at the Hyatt here in San Antonio, but this bar is a tart taste to the atmosphere here at the Hyatt. Very disappointed. Would have been 5 stars if not for the slow service. There were only 3 tables of 20 occupied and yet food was slow to come out. With the exception of the kalbi ribs, everything was already pre-cooked. Should have taken but a few minutes to cook the kalbi ribs, as they are thin and cooked medium rare. Reheating the other ribs should have been quick as well. Not sure why it took 40 minutes to get our order. Shared a Q Experience (BBQ sampler platter) with my wife. Chose the cantonese ribs, korean bbq ribs, texas dry rub ribs and Kansas City style ribs. All of them were excellent. Stand outs for me were the cantonese ribs. While they had been cooked and then deep fried, they were tender and juicy, but somehow not greasy. The asian spicy glaze had a was thick and delicious. My wife loved the texas dry rubbed ribs, which were wonderfully smoked and tender. Dipped into a little of the BBQ sauce, it really enhanced the smokiness of the meat. The Kalbi ribs were good as well. Cooked medium rare, they were tender and juicy. Lastly, the kansas city style ribs were well smoked as well. We really enjoyed our experience at the Q restaurant and bar. While we stayed at the upstairs Hyatt, we didn't think we'd take the easy option out and dine downstairs but we ended up happy with our decision. The ambience in the bar seating area was nice and relatively quiet. Service was fantastic as the tables were extremely cramped thus plates were removed promptly when finished. We had the wings (both flavors), rib appetizer, tacos, Cobb salad, and the whole wheat pasta. Wings were great and really satisfying. The meat was tender and the sauces were very flavorful. The ribs were also excellent, and had a nice Asian zing to them. The salad was decent and the pasta was just average. Definitely worth a visit regardless if you're staying in the hotel upstairs, as the food was very tasty and satiating, and the service was on point! read more

We wanted a non-Tex Mex option that was close and provided an easy escape if we needed it (we were staying at the Hyatt Regency at the Riverwalk, and had our 2 year old daughter with us... you never know when you need to take a walk with restless 2 year old). Petty tasty stuff. My wife and I typically split meals because we just can't eat as much as we're served in most places. We split a house salad, which was pretty darn good, as far as salads go. It had some sundried tomatoes in it, which I love. I could have eaten a bowl of them. For the main course, we split the half chicken with mac and cheese and fingerling potatoes. Really flavorful chicken, and the chicken jus made a great sauce for the potatoes. It was the perfect amount of food to split, but I could have eaten more simply because I enjoyed the flavor of the chicken. The mac and cheese was ok. Nothing to rave about, but our daughter enjoyed it. The layout was very open, and it was easy to jump up with our daughter for a quick walk to keep her entertained. The service was not great, considering the place was empty. Our waiter didn't come by very often, and I had to hunt down a spoon to scoop out the mac and cheese to split up. My wife ordered a glass of white wine. She wasn't a fan. The waiter never asked if she liked the wine, which I found odd. She didn't make a fuss because she didn't really care to try another. The waiter also never cleared our table of our salad plate and bread plates, so we piled them up in the unoccupied table space next to me. The table became a crowded mess, and that's difficult with a 2 year old that likes to grab whatever is in reach. Overall, I'd go back if others I'm with suggest it. I joined a friend here for a few drinks, HH is until 7pm, before dinner as she was staying at the hotel, pretty natural choice. Hubby joined us later and we ordered a Vegetable Flat Bread that was amazing; purple onion, squash, asparagus, goat cheese and olives made this dish totally full of flavor and the colors were super appealing as well. Like, "Don't you work for tips, I can't believe we need to hound you down, Babe please bring the guy behind the bar the credit card so we can leave, Uch I can't believe I need to call Tre and push back our reservations" slow.
