Despite being alongside the Riverwalk, we had a wonderful dining experience with John. I ordered the chicken fried chicken with brussel sprouts and it was delicious. It tasted just like how it does back home in Austin. I drank so much iced tea that John, our incredible server, just left the pitcher on the table. My only gripe was how limp the romaine lettuce on my salad was...it was embarrassing. Other than that, using my birthday $25 reward was seamless and the service was great. If you want a view of the water, the outdoor seating was heavily available at lunchtime on a weekday. The dining area is kind of awkward and there are some tight squeezes (I'm not even sure how this place is ADA accessible). I'm in SA for work and this was my first time at Saltgrass. The food was great and the service was even better. The waitress asked if it was my first time in and she answered the questions I had. But what stuck out to me was a bit later the manager came over and said he heard it was my first time in and he was just checking in. That was an awesome extra gesture that made me feel welcomed. The bread that comes out first was delightful! It was so beautiful too, and the butter had a slight honey sweetness to it. For my entree I got the Bacon wrapped filet and shrimp with a side of broccoli and added an extra side of fries. The steak and shrimp were just slightly over but everything tasted great! Went to a late dinner based on a recommendation. The check in person was awesome, was a little late like 845pm. Sat immediately & our waitress was awesome. The appetizers (fried mushrooms & artichoke dip) was delicious. We had a top sirloin & a rack of ribs with sausage & it was so tasty & a lot. The sides of baked potato & mac & cheese with salads was great. $94 total and was a great meal. Great ambiance as well. We stayed in San Antonio for the night on our road trip back to Arizona from Ft. Worth and I'm sure glad we did! Being on the riverwalk with so many options can be highly overwhelming!!! especially with long waits at just about every spot but I can promise, this place is worth the wait ... and the service! It was super cozy and homey inside and it truly felt like we were transported back to our hometown between the amazing food and great service. the Riverwalk itself is absolutely beautiful -- but BUSY! the wait to eat anywhere was about an hour, so luckily we were able to enjoy the riverwalk with a cocktail before they text us that our table was ready and we got sat. Nicky and V got us sat at the most perfect table by a window so we got to people watch the riverwalk while they took great care of us that night! To start we had the parmesan truffle fries which were so so good and we enjoyed our drinks. For dinner, I had the Prime Rib special with mashed potatoes (although I reallllly wanted the brussels!!! I just am a sucker for prime rib and mash together) and my husband had the filet with mac and cheese. We both absolutely loved our meals and everything was cooked to perfection. We just popped in here to have a drink as we were hot and tired from walking. The bar is all the way upstairs so you have to navigate yourself through the dining space to get to it and it is pretty small when you do get up there The bartender was nice enough, but seem to always be in the weeds. My husband got an old-fashioned with their house whiskey, which is bullet. I really wanted the frozen crown and Coke. I ended up getting there sangrita which is just sangria mixed with margarita. When I first cut into it, it wasn't cooked to the temperature I had requested. However, the server noticed it immediately when she came back to check on the table and took it back right away. While I waited, the manager stopped by a couple of times to assure me they would make it right, which I appreciated. When the steak came back out, it was perfect--and they even brought a fresh baked potato to go with it. The steak was well seasoned and cooked exactly how I wanted it. To finish the meal, I ordered a slice of cheesecake, and it was honestly one of the better cheesecakes I've had in a while. Solid d experience overall. Sat outside on kind of a raised level, like a mezzanine. You could still see the water, which was nice, but there is a sidewalk between you and the river so you are not right on it. Although it kind of felt like you were since you're up from the sidewalk. The views were still really good and it was a nice spot to sit and people watch. Service was good too. Everything came out on time and the server was attentive. Food was a mix for me. I had the grilled salmon with a salad and it was fine, just nothing special. Not bad, just nothing I could get anywhere else. The brussel sprouts were good though. Overall it is a good place for the atmosphere and a solid meal, just don't expect anything amazing food wise....although all I had was salmon so can't speak for the rest of the food. read more

We had good lunch today at the Saltgrass. Christopher was our server. He was professional and said 'yes, no problem' to all of our requests. We started with fried pickles and peppers (4/5). Crispy batter and served with ranch sauce. It was a good start. Entrees came out of the kitchen in about 20 minutes. We ordered the chicken fried steak (4/5) and a bacon cheeseburger (4/5). We had dinner yesterday for my son's birthday, we were a party of 10 , so I don't know if because the gratuity was automatically included but our server was horrible! We had reservations for 8 so it wasn't super late and we ate on the patio. He wouldn't come check on us for long periods of time and was rude. I ordered my steak med well and it came med rare they said they'd correct it (not our server because he never even came to ask if everything was ok) and it came back well well done. We tried to be so nice and understanding because to be fair the food runners were actually nice and attentive. I was just over it and declined my plate after all because my family was already done eating by the time they brought my food back. I always loved Saltgrass and loved eating on the Riverwalk but will never go back. It was that bad tonight. Save your money and eat elsewhere. read more

We came late, after doing the river tour. Service was amazing, our waiter was awesome. I only have the picture of the bone in Ribeye, which is a melt in your mouth steak. He also ordered the potato soup so so good, the ribs and the shrimp pasta, all so very very good. I had the 8 oz sirloin with mashed potato and garden salad. Never got our food and after waiting almost an hour, we got up and left. Our waitress Angie was not even apologetic. At one point she said they were traying up our meals, but another 10 minutes went by and we had no food. All the tables around us who came in after us had their meals and in some cases were finished eating. When we questioned Angie, she said she wasn't the cook and shrugged her shoulders. While touring the Riverwalk, we stopped at this restaurant for dinner. Since this restaurant is on the Riverwalk, it is extremely busy. We were greeted at the door and sent to the second floor for a drink at the bar. The bar has a great selection of spirits and a few beers on tap. The wine list is decent and includes several types of wines at various price points. We were seated along the river after about thirty minutes and we put in our appetizer orders. Shrimp poppers and a cheese bowl with chips. Both appetizers were delightful. I ordered the New York steak with a baked potato. The steak was delicious. Cooked to perfection. For being a tourist trap area, the prices for the meal were not bad. The steak prices were no different than any other steakhouse I've been to. Sitting on the river at night was quite enjoyable. Watching the boats that are lit up with lights and people watching was entertaining. We didn't order desert because the portions of food were quite large. However, we did see some cheesecakes ordered by another table, and they looked fabulous! If you are on the Riverwalk, this place is great to have a meal. We initially walked into a restaurant across the Riverwalk, while being taken to a table the manager told the hostess they were closed and there were no more seatings (another story /review for them). Ms.K greeted us with a big smile and the usual pleasantries as she said into the mic on her head set, get ready for another dinner rush. Ms.K was calm, cool and collected as guests poured in. One group had 17 ppl. You could tell the restaurant was being pushed but she never lost her composure. Once 11pm hit she began to turn guests away, since the restaurant was now closed. We never felt rushed our hurried in any way. Now for the food. @ 10:55 when a restaurant is getting ready to close, you take what you can get. That being said our food was EXCELLENT! Might I say "THE BEST" Saltgrass meal we have ever had. We ordered the following: 2 waters, queso fresco $13.49 (chips and queso), 6oz center cut filet with grilled shrimp $42.27 12oz Ribeye $32.89 and the usual accompaniments of bread, salad and both orders had a baked potato. Total with tax $94.88 Remember this placed closed @ 11pm and we walked in @ 10:55 PM...both steaks were cooked to perfection, perfectly med rare, both baked potatoes were fully cooked and fluffy soft piled with cheese, butter, chives, bacon bits, fresh bread was soft & so steaming hot that the butter melted as it was spread. Only to be told upon arrival that "a third party" had reserved all the prime view tables. OK, I understand the profit motive, and selling those seats at $150 a pop was impossible to resist. I highly recommend this Saltgrass location. The Riverwalk experience was absolutely magical the staff was so accommodating, from reserving and preparing a table via phone call to my liking, to catering to my tables requests. We got a seat outside, the weather was nice, shaded patio and even a heater! Very clean too. The food was absolutely delicious, buttery, moist and bursting with flavor. 4 out of 5 of my party ordered either the pats ribeye or shrimp and steak off the early dining menu. Going on a weekday before six is so worth it. The meals were decently priced and came with the usual salad and side. Good portions. The chips and queso were also very yummy and queso was hot! Bread is of course complimentary. My waitress appeared to be new but was so kind and sweet and the rest of the staff was so helpful in getting things she may have forgotten. Only compliant- I didn't earn points for this purchase and as a member if the Landrys select club I feel that's important to honor... especially with such a costly purchase.
