Found this conveniently close to the Convention Center, while attending a conference. The atmosphere is....well, what can you say? It's the RIVERWALK! Great views from any table. I had the turkey club (a club sandwich is one of my favorite "go-to's" for lunch at just about any place) with the house-made chips. It came fairly quickly and beautifully presented. The CHIPS were the real star of this plate - even though the fries on the next plate looked equally good. They were hot, extra-crispy and salted just right! The sandwich was plentiful and delicious. Most places scrimp on bacon, but not here. Plenty of bacon, moist turkey breast, mayo, lettuce and tomato. OH! And the PICKLES that came with it were AWESOME - sweet, spicy, crunchy..... My only criticism was the bread not being toasted enough - hardly at all, actually. Our waitress at Cactus Flower was a delight - think her name was "Constance." She was warm, funny and didn't have to write anything down for our table of 4. She remembered it all and was even able to make split checks at the end. GREAT service! The prices were surprisingly reasonable, considering it's located inside a hotel. So, yeah, great service, great food, great prices. You can't go wrong eating here. read more

Conveniently located inside the Marriott Riverwalk hotel. I was able to enjoy one meal here before my trade show began for the week. I'm not a huge breakfast fan, but on occasion I indulge. I ended up ordering the "Texas Broken Yolk Sandwich (2 eggs, bacon, cheddar, Texas toast and side of hash brown). It thoroughly enjoyed the crunch and greasy this sandwich delivered! The yolk wasn't as "broken" or gooey as I expected, but I was still satisfied. The hash brown was well done as I specified. They have a buffet for those who don't want to wait. A waiter will deliver you coffee, juice, water, or tea. From the buffet there is your standard pastry area (nothing exciting) Hot items: scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes and biscuits and a made to order station with a variety of toppings. You can also choose fresh fruit and yogurt from the cold bar. Service was awesome! 4 of the 9 of us ordered off the menu while the rest made do with the buffet. Our server apologized for the wait as we weren't eating with our friends. He was kind enough to offer the buffet to us 4 on the house. He also explained that the hash brown are made fresh to order, hence the time it took for them to arrive. I guess that means they are shredding the potatoes upon order?? I made sure to complement our served and also let his manager know that he was both wonderful and very attentive! Service here was over the top wonderful. Only reason I didn't give 5 starts is bc some details were over looked. There were crumbs under the jelly/sugar containers. Like huge brown crumbs. And the honey was used. There should have been an unopened honey jar w the other condiments. Honestly It was gross. Ok moving on bc the rest is glowing!! Hostess was professional and friendly. Servers were prompt, courteous but a huge shout out to Maria at the omelet/waffle/pancake station!! While she was preparing my over medium eggs (which we're PERFECTLY cooked) we started causally talking. Long story short- it came up we were celebrating our anniversary and she had the cutest cupcake sent to our table! What a thoughtful gesture. THIS is what makes a memory. Thoughtful people. Okay as far as a hotel restaurant goes. For breakfast, they have a buffet or cook to order menu. I was super surprised to get free refills on OJ. That's never happened to me before. I got an omelet and homestyle fries. Both were well prepared and tasty. Given the breakfast options in the area, not bad albeit expensive for a standard breakfast. read more

Ate breakfast here one morning - the prototypical hotel breakfast buffet: I had: - Scrambled eggs: overcooked - Breakfast potatoes: undercooked and sitting in water that was dripping down from condensation inside the heating vessel - Sausage Gravy and Biscuits: the runniest sausage gravy I've ever eaten - and no chunks of sausage and very little in the way of flavor. - Bacon. Check! The bacon is the ONLY thing that nudges this review up to three stars. Barely. It was excellent bacon! So surprising to get such good bacon in a hotel breakfast buffet. Thick cut. Smoky. Meaty. Delish! Bacon - the staff of life. They offer other items on the breakfast buffet: pancakes, fresh fruit, oatmeal, cold cereals, juices, and such. Plus a custom fresh made omelets to order. I'm here working a conference and had a short time for lunch so I opted for the hotel restaurant. I wasn't expecting much of an option for vegetarians but they have a black bean soup listed as an appetizer accompanied with fresh baked jalapeño corn bread. It was added to he menu after a recent Seventh Day Adventist conference to accommodate their dietary needs. Thanks to them, I was able to enjoy a hearty portion that was both filling and not too salty. The side of cornbread was equally filling and delicious. Constance was attentive, friendly and so happy to know she made Yelp! Stardom. I'm happy to include a photo of her so you can ask for her, as she was indeed delighted to take care of me. Great place to have brunch when staying at the Marriott. Servers are warm and friendly. All you can eat brunch is the best! I had two pots of chamomile tea with honey, eggs, bacon, hash browns, and housemade custom omelette with mushrooms, spinach, tomato, bacon, cheese, etc. I helped myself to a big bowl of melon, grape, cantalope, and strawberry fruits. The Cactus Flower Cafe in the Marriott Riverwalk Hotel, features casual American and Southwest cuisine. Enjoy your favorite beverage and light fare taking in the River views. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. We were there for dinner and got the fillet mignon and pecan crusted grouper. They do have very good quality meat and fish, which I'm sure is QA standard to have a restaurant within Marriott. The interesting thing was the fillet mignon was tender regardless of it being medium OR well done. A talent very hard to master. Seasoning for the fish was a bit salty but manageable.... just not for someone with high blood pressure, however its quite easy to request for no salt. Staff is extremely accommodating. You can park within Marriott and get validated when eating at the restaurant. read more

Ah , nice to have full service breakfast. Was visiting for a conference and waiting in line has become exhausting and not good for digestion process; hurry up and then stuff your food in your mouth. This lovely little cafe is hidden in the Marriott behind the Starbucks line. My server seemed to read my body language of exhaustion and even sent me with a juice. San Antonio could have been the worst place I've ever been to. I hate to say that about any town, because I know there are people who love their city, but there is seriously nothing positive about this city. What makes SA worse is that the Spurs play here. And the Spurs are the most boring and crappy NBA team of all time. OK, so onto this place. I came to San Antonio for a convention about a week ago. This place and Denny's were the only two places I ate at. I understand it's hotel food. I understand to not expect the best food in the world and I probably should've gone to Foga de Chao across the street. But I didn't want to take a step outside even for 30 sec in that god forsaken heat. The heat is literally that bad. I've been to Japan in the middle of summer and it wasn't nearly this bad. hahahaha ok back to the review. I got the beef dip sandwich for lunch with a side caesar salad. Very standard and run of the mill, but it really did satisfy my hunger while in Texas. Nothing notable from this dish, but if you do come here for lunch, I would recommend ordering this. Although expect to pay hotel prices. Which I believe came out to about $15 for a decent sandwich. We came back for dinner and drinks and got served by one very good looking waitress. Breakfast here was ok food and service wise - how can make a mess of pancakes and I wasn't away enough to pay attention to the waiter anyway. Dinner the night before was terrible. Our waiter was slow, forgetful, and clearly not interested in his job considering how shoddily he was dressed and his manners. The food was ok. The soup was good but the chicken verde was smothered in sauce so much that I couldn't finish it. Yes, the restaurant is in the hotel which makes it ideal for meeting people, but eat in the bar instead. This place was overpriced, as most hotel restaurants are, the food was mediocre, and the service was terrible. read more

Service was good. They took great care of us and helped make sure we were served/paid and ready to leave in time for our meeting. I had fish tacos. The salsa was just ok; I didn't use it. The tacos were served with a grilled like that made a great sauce for the tacos. Very good. I would definitely order them again. Others with me ordered hamburgers. They got medium and wished they had gotten medium well. The meat was ok, but on the rarer end of medium. They did not like the pickles served with the burgers, but couldn't explain why. The one negative was the coffee and iced tea. The coffee tasted like it had been made for breakfast and reheated one too many times. The tea was strong and a tad bitter. read more

OK hotel food. I try to avoid, but it was early and raining on a Sunday and I didn't feel like wandering to find something open so I tried the hotel restaurant. I usually avoid breakfast buffets unless I know they are superior. So I ordered off the menu. I have three breakfast tacos, which are a favorite in SA, so I learned. I had a bacon and egg, ham and egg and chorizo and egg. All three were good, the salsa was nice but not spicy. I know I should have asked for hot sauce, but I just didn't. All in all a better choice than the buffet. I can't remember the price since I charged it to my room, but I want to say it was $15.00. A little high but not bad for hotel. read more

Don't come here if you're a vegetarian or vegan. I paid $14 for some beans on a tortilla chip. Had to ask twice for vegetables and paid $5 for three slices of avocado without being warned of the price. Crunchy French toast sounds delicious but tasted incredibly stale and not crunchy. Service was - had to ask for menus and waitress said "I just work here" when I asked why she didn't tell me the avocado slices were $5. :( sad. read more

Fabulous gluten free options. I was staying at this hotel and had difficulty finding good breakfast items. I heard that this restaurant had gluten free bread and went to take a peek. It was one of the best breakfasts I had but it was very pricey. I got bacon, eggs, gluten free toast, coffee, and orange juice. read more

Located inside the Riverwalk Marriott, this breakfast buffet is typical of what you might expect in a nice hotel. Unexpected was the very friendly staff, especially as their first customer of the day at 6:30am. Everyone said hello as I passed by, and the lady who prepared my omelette even brought it over to my table when it was ready. (I had gone to the table with my other items I had picked out from the buffet selections, and had fully intended to go back and pick it up myself.) Free refills on the orange juice was very nice, and they don't skimp on the size of the glass it comes in. (Other places I've been use something only slightly larger than a shot glass for their juices.) To top everything off, my waitress even offered to prepare a beverage to go (coffee, tea, or juice) without me even thinking of asking! That is exceptional customer service, especially for a $20 hotel buffet where I usually am not expecting much. Great job! read more

Annette remembered us each time we stopped in. She was welcoming, efficient, kind and very hard working. It felt like visiting an old friend. This is the restaurant inside the Marriott Riverwalk hotel. My wife and i stayed at the hotel for the better part of a week recently to attend a convention across the street, and while we never had dinner at this restaurant we did try their buffet breakfast one morning. So this review is entirely based on that buffet. Overall, we had a good meal here, but at 20 dollars each (plus tax and tip, making the total approach 25 dollars each) we both felt the meal was overpriced (as are, of course, ALL hotel restaurants). The buffet consists of pretty standard fare: a waiter brings you juice (I thought the orange juice was excellent, and it tasted fresh-squeezed; refills are free) and coffee or tea. You then select from a variety of hot and cold items on the buffet. The croissants were OK but wouldn't make you think you were in Paris. The muffins were pretty good. As for the hot items, I had scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes and biscuits; my wife had a made-to-order omelet that she thought was very good. My eggs were better than i expected, considering that they were in a warming tray, and the bacon was great, reasonably crisp but not burned. The potatoes were pretty good too, and so were the biscuits, which are generally served with gravy but which make a nice bread accompaniment to your eggs even if you skip the gravy, as I did. One complaint I had about the eggs and potatoes, both of which were in covered metal bowls, was that when you opened the top cover, a large amount of water (condensation from the hot items inside) ran down the cover and into the bowl. I could, and did, scoop some food out of a different area of the bowl that wasn't drenched by the waterfall, but it still wasn't the most appetizing thing in the world to see. Nevertheless, I managed to make rooms for seconds. I was also pleasantly surprised by the service. It can often be pretty spotty at a buffet but here it was attentive without being obtrusive. My coffee and juice were refilled promptly and dirty dishes were whisked away before they became a nuisance. So, all told, this was not an unforgettable meal, but it was a perfectly pleasant one, and if I were staying at this hotel again I'd probably eat breakfast here at least once during my stay. read more

Just missed the breakfast buffet but was very happy about that. I ordered the American Breakfast which was cooked to perfection and was a great value for the amount of food given. Arrived at 12:15 on a Tuesday. No line, empty tables. Hostess said there was a 15-minute wait. Wearing a large boot instead of a cast on my foot, I looked pointedly at the empty tables, then back to the hostess. No offer to sit, even after she saw standing for a while would be uncomfortable/painful for me. At 12:25 she seated our group of 5. A waiter brought us water and, ten minutes later, when I asked him for chips and salsa, he brought a tray that had been sitting on a nearby table. He took our order then at 12:35. We all ordered sandwiches, hoping it wouldn't take too long. At 1 p.m., we asked him to check on our food. He never came back. We left at 1:10 p.m. with no food, no explanation, and no apology. Something is wrong here. We heard several waiters on the other side of our partition conversing most of the time we were there. Only one waiter seemed to be working hard. The rest were hardly working. One member of our group was with child, and obviously so. I felt horrible for her since we returned to our convention session with no lunch at all. One would think that common courtesy would at least dictate an apology, but this must be an uncommon place. If you go, be sure to ask for wait times and watch those waiters! read more
