I was looking for a quick chill dinner on a weeknight. And swung by this place on the way home. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's only a few few stools for seating so it's definitely a takeout vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I tried the char siu and it was so good. Balanced flavor, really moist and not dried out. Felt like a healthy yet really satisfying dinner! Can't wait to come back to try the duck.
Got the charsiu, duck, chicken, veggies and rice! We first tried this place from ordering online which we enjoyed, so we had to come see and try the place in person. Everything was 10/10! Flavorful, tender, and juicy. Loved all the sauces, from savory, sweet, to garlicky. Only thing we noticed was the oiliness after a while. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Place is small, limited seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Parking may be tough. Service is kind.
As of Septemer 2024 they are temporarily closed, but Hing Lung is set to reopen later this year fyi... A while back we got their roast duck, crispy roast pork, steamed buns, and veggies for take out. They were all very good. The seasoning they use on the duck is tasty and the crispy roast pork indeed had crispy skin. I enjoyed their different sauces too. Make sure they include the variety of sauces in your bag if you get multiple meats! I look forward to trying their other meats when they reopen. All over social media, people are saying this place has THE BEST roast duck in the country! So I had to check it out for myself.... I got half a duck and this was plenty for my boyfriend and I to share. If I'm being picky, the duck was on the salty side. However, it's very flavorful and savory. Not very sweet like other places. The duck pieces didn't have a ton of meat on them, but the pieces that had more meat were pretty juicy. Overall, not the best duck I've had - but definitely good quality! I'd recommend it to those visiting SF Chinatown.
My husband and I were the second group in line on the day we were flying out of SF. We decided a hearty breakfast of Chinese BBQ was in order since our foray into Chinatown was not as what it could have been. I found Hing Lung on Yelp and decided this was exactly what we wanted. It was supposed to be nice but the early rain set in but I was determined in my goal. We made it there just as they were opening. My husband was in the mood for Peking duck while I wanted to try the crispy pork belly and honey BBQ pork. I ordered the half duck with rice & veggies and the woman behind the counter let me order a 1/4 lb of crispy pork belly and 1/4 lb of honey BBQ pork. Hing Lung, FTW! We were so excited to try our goodies, we stopped in the rain to take a quick bite. We were headed to the Dragon Gate to take a quick picture before heading back to the hotel room where we could enjoy our meal. It was too wet outside for our plan to picnic at the park. The crispy pork skin on the pork belly was crunchy. The honey BBQ was really the BEST I've tried. The duck was juicy and flavorful and reminded me of my childhood when my parents only got Chinese BBQ on special occasions. Do yourself a favor and go duck yourself at Hing Lung. It's worth every juicy bite!
It's quite chaotic here on a Saturday at 11am. This tiny little establishment is Togo and cash-only. I went through a lot of trouble to find parking just to try their roast duck. Despite the risk of stinking up my car, I bravely kept the lids open to maintain the crispy skin while heading to a gathering, and my friends really enjoyed the duck. Surprisingly, this roast duck is the least salty I've ever had. You can add saltiness by dipping it in the five-spice flavored sauce, and add umami with the plum sauce. Although the duck skin may look slightly burnt, the meat is perfectly cooked. Despite the inconvenience, I have no regrets about buying it. The only thing missing is the gelatinous layers of flavor paste that some roast ducks have. Overall, this place is ideal for those who are willing to take the time to find parking, appreciate meat, and enjoy adding their own seasoning to the duck.
Let me warn all non-San Franciscans about what it takes to find this place... RUN! I kid. We came across about 6 shops that looked identical to this (inside and out) while out walking GPS said we were practically on top of this place. So be warned, it needs to say Go Duck Yourself on the exterior or you may be at a competitor that may not quite match up. You will be parking far from the establishment, so get on your hiking shoes, because it may be an uphill climb. The sidewalk will be bustling with locals, tourists, and people just trying to get lunch or groceries. We got the Half Roast Duck Rice Plate and a Crispy Roast Pork plate. The rave reviews that you see here cannot clearly illustrate the experience your palate will take when consuming their offerings. The savory duck will pour juicy flavorful fat into the rice you were already chewing and you will be thankful of the harmonious concoction that you have unwittingly created. The vegetables challenge the incredible protein for your favorite part of this dish. Ours was Chinese broccoli, and it delivered its own culinary experience. The crispy pork changed the textural consistency of our lunch and provided a salty crunch that you'd be proud of. My kids chose this dish but loved both and wished they had more. (Too late, we're back at the truck and have to make it to our next destination. You're bad for not trusting me when I say my Yelp friends say THIS IS THE BEST!) Inside you will find people hard at work, beautiful proteins hanging for your viewing pleasure, and lots of noise from prepping and chopping. Even though they were busy, service was good but may require a translator if you don't speak Mandarin (a service they provide, free of charge.) My suggestion is order more than you think, as it keeps will, reheats nicely, and you may not be able to make this trip again.
I grew up eating a lot of roasted duck and Chinese bbq so when I stumbled upon this place online, I knew I had to give it a try. This establishment is not a sit down restaurant but a meat shop where you order your roasted items and eat it at home. The roasted duck is delectable and has the perfect fat to meat ratio. I love how the staff offers an abundance of sauces such as plum sauce, ginger scallion oil, and duck sauce. Their ginger scallion oil is to die for! The roasted pork is great but you would need to eat it right away so that the skin stays crispy. Wish the skin was crispier but other than that, the pork is very favorable and nicely roasted. Definitely worth a trip if you are in Chinatown.
Okay, So Hing Lung is also now aka Go Duck Yourself ™ The ROAST DUCK here is SOOO YUMMM!!! Yes, pricey but totally worth it! Hing Lung, who used to sell raw meat (section on the right which is now closed), cooked ready to go meals (like chow mein by the pound), and BBQ Roast items has now completely and successfully re-invented itself by selling just BBQ Roast Items. And let me tell you... their Roast Duck is SO GOOD! It is worth the price (goes by the pound, and about $40 for the whole duck), and worth the wait. Other BBQ roast items are also very good. But the ROAST DUCK here is definitely BOMB!
Placed a large order here for our baby shower last weekend and they are truly phenomenal to work with! They only needed 3-4 days notice and they were able to accommodate my order for 8 ducks and 6lbs of Charsiu! I also loved how I was able to order white rice and garlic veggies from here as well so it wasn't just meat! I had messaged back in February in the early stages of planning just to get quotes and they were super responsive via Yelp! Ordering was a breeze and pick-up even easier! The food was also a hit with our guests! They really enjoyed the duck (which is why I ordered more of it), and how I was also able to order it with buns, hoisin sauce, and scallions. I mean, who can say no to a roasted duck bun?! The charsiu went fast too - like there was literally nothing left at the end of the party! Service, food, easy of pick-up, communication were all top-notch in my experience and I would highly recommend them for anyone looking to cater some delicious bbq!
I can't call myself a duck expert by any means, but I assume this is as good as it gets. This is one of those places that has the duck hanging right there in the window and it's like, "okay, let's see what this is all about." The duck was succulent and juicy. It's not my favorite protein. The crispy pork was good but my favorite was the honey roasted bbq pork. They serve it cold. If it was warm and fresh I could go to 5 stars here. (4.2 Stars)
The roast duck?? So duckin' good ahaha! This was my first stop after arriving in Chinatown for the first time in a LOOONG one. I love eating roast duck so this was a no brainer to visit. Their food was just as good as I expected - juicy duck, accompanied by savory sauces. The duck was seasoned and cooked so perfectly, and it's so nice that you're able to see everything be prepared in front of you. I found it to be a really reasonable price! I'd definitely DoorDash this had I lived closer - they also offer rice if you're just in the city for a day trip and want to try it out. The half order is already pretty large itself. They accept card here! Food comes out quickly and ordering is easy and self explanatory.
Ordered team lunch and everyone loved it. Everything we got was amazing. Tender juicy duck, chicken, cha siu. Recommend the bun kit to go with the meat. Garlic veg was you choy sum and goes well with other meat. My teammate who doesn't like duck normally loved the duck! Crispy pork is great and still warm and crispy for delivery order. Will order again!

We were excited to try the newly opened Quack House after having eaten at Go Duck Yourself which is their sister dine-in restaurant. Quack House is take-out only and a more modern version of your traditional cantonese bbq take-out spot. Walking in, ordering simple via kiosk and unlike traditional bbq spots, you can't see any of the meats. We were disappointed to hear that the kitchen was closed a little bit after 7pm on a Friday. This was odd to me and it meant that we couldn't order any of the plates as there were no noodles available or dim sum apps (we wanted the glutinous rice balls filled with pork). We ended up getting half a duck ($33), a medium order of cha siu and the watermelon salad. First, I loved the watermelon salad with cucumber, shallots, crispy peanuts and a fish sauce dressing. This reminded me of thai melon salads, really refreshing and the balance of sweet and savory is so addicting. The duck itself was on the fatty side but well seasoned and comes with a savory duck jus as well as a plum sauce. Overall pretty good and I thought there was a decent amount of meat on the duck. Prices are slightly higher than the hole-in-the-wall take-out joints but I'd say the quality is better as well. read more
Just to clarify, this is a review of Quack House on Post Street in the Loin.... I see a lot of photos of the other venues mixed in here. We're happy to see this spot finally open in this area. We need good duck! [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a nice little brick and mortar spot, literally. It's mainly for takeout, but there is some counter space to eat there[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. (I'm not a take out person) I ordered the roasted pork combo, doesn't look like a lot, but it does fill you up with the rice and veggies. It comes with some brown sauce, which I'm not sure what it is, but you need to get the Plum vinaigrette, that sawce is da boss! These plates will always remind me of my childhood in Chinatown SF and NY back when they were $5 dollars! The kid taking orders was new. He needs to up his street cred on duck knowledge! A lot of people don't know there is a legacy story here behind the duck! If you're near the tenderloin, definitely go check it out and if you don't like it, then you can go duck yourself! Been wanting to try this place for a while after hearing recs from friends!! We got the half roast duck (deboned hehe) with rice and veggies and it was really delicious! We went around 11:30am on a Saturday -- there was no line and service was quick. We paid $27 total for all this food that was such a great portion, and took it to the nearby park to enjoy. The duck was a bit fatty with thin crisp skin but the meat was nice and tender, and paired perfectly with the two sauces provided -- one duck sauce and the other a more savory sauce. The greens were also sautéed very nicely and yummy to eat with the savory sauce as well. read more

Surprisingly good bbq - as mentioned, some may be apprehensive about the way things look. It really doesn't look that special but has the legendary signage of Hing Lung. However, once the Sifu picked up the cut of meat, then I already saw hints of grandeur. It looked like a typical, low-fat cut, but it was still soft and tender as he handled it. It was not heated up or anything yet. Then back home, after being heated up, even though it was very lean, it turned out to be darn tender and good-tasting! Surprised and stunned for 3 seconds, I continued to have my very own custom roast pork with rice at home. It was not hardened or dried out at all, and the skin was crispy. The interior design of the place is also typical, so don't worry too much about it. At least a different person was handling the money. read more

DELIVERY GOODS I work in a hybrid schedule - 2 days at home and 3 days in the office. When I do come to office in the Financial District there aren't a lot of eateries near the building where I work. For lunch if I didn't bring anything from home I tend to have food deliver to the office where I work. How often do you get great quality food from delivery? From my experience not very often. There's one eatery that provides excellent quality food from delivery - Go Duck Yourself. I've ordered three times from Go Duck Yourself for delivery (via DoorDash or Yelp). Each time I've ordered the food have been exceptional. The first time I placed an order was on a Thursday exactly one week before Thanksgiving. I ordered two items: 1) half roast duck rice plate 2) honey glazed BBQ pork. The roast duck I ordered from Go Duck Yourself stood out from most roast ducks I've ordered due to the plum sauce, which I've never had before. This plum sauce cuts the richness of the roast duck. For the duck au jus I recommend pouring it over rice to enhance more flavor from your meal. The roast duck from Go Duck Yourself isn't oily or greasy. You can consume the roast duck without feeling queasy. Yet that wasn't the best item I ordered that goes to the char siu. The char siu I ordered was tender. Too often from Chinese eateries the char siu I get are too jerky. Not the char siu I ordered from Go Duck Yourself. The leanness from the char siu made it easier for me to consume without feeling bloated. The second time I ordered from Go Duck Yourself was the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. As last time I ordered two items, but they were different: 1) honey glazed chicken wings 2) crispy skin roast pork belly rice plate. I always like my chicken wings as whole instead of drumette and wingette served separately. The whole chicken wings absorbed the flavor of the honey glaze. The hype was the crispy skin roast pork. When I placed an order from the menu it stated on the description that the pork isn't boiled then roasted. When I got this item from delivery I was amazed at how the skin was still crispy. What impressed me was the meat. The menu was correct when it stated the meat wasn't boiled. Too often I get crispy skin roast pork that is boiled first. The process of boiling and roasting the pork makes the meat overcooked. I can honestly say from eating that the crispy skin roast pork from Go Duck Yourself wasn't boiled as the meat was tender. The best part of the crispy skin roast pork is the rendered fat that makes the skin extremely crispy without the oiliness. The next day I placed an order for one item, which was the honey glazed BBQ pork jowl rice plate. I mentioned how I was impressed with the char siu from Go Duck Yourself. The pork jowl is even better. The pork jowl has a combination of rendered fat and meat. Yet the pork jowl isn't too fatty. The ginger sauce tastes better with the pork jowl than the char siu. In summary my rating is based on three times I've ordered for delivery that more than met my expectations. My problem what items do I order again. Do I get the crispy skin roast pork belly, roast duck, or pork jowl? They are all delicious and great. read more
Finally, I got to try Go Duck Yourself today! It's GOOD and yes it is expensive but you get what you paid for. I ordered soy sauce chicken over rice with veggies. It comes with a side of soy sauce and sour moy. It was plenty of food for lunch, excellent flavor chicken. I love that they are a family business and their 2 sons have taken over, learn the trade of making excellent meats. I love that they are paying fair wages, breaks, etc. I will definitely come here more often for lunch and try their other meats! Go duck yourself now! read more

Duck is hands down one of my favorite types of meat, and go duck yourself gets it perfectly juicy and crisp every time! The duck itself is extremely tender with a sweet and salty marinade, and the skin, aka my favorite part is crisped to perfection. The half duck rice plate is definitely enough to last two full meals and even more if served with veggies. The plate comes with two side sauces of sweet chili and a tangy savory soy blend. I cannot recommend go duck yourself enough. Keep in mind though that duck is quite fatty so I do highly recommend ordering some veggies on the side. Just stopping by to show some more love to THE absolute best Duck in the city (dare I say state and even country)! This is a no frills, get what you order and pay for kinda place. Each member of the team gives stellar service even when communication is a barrier. I appreciate that the charge is by weight and that they debone if you ask, for an additional fee. I've tried it all there and while everything on the menu is great, I just can't not treat myself to the Roasted Duck. Do take out as it's a lesser charge than ordering from the delivery apps. Since it's a Sunday I decided to venture to Chinatown for the rumored best duck around! Google maps will lead you to Go Duck Yourself! I think I've passed by Go Duck Yourself dozens of times without taking a second look. The nondescript building blends in easily with the dozen other Chinese BBQ spots in Chinatown, so make sure you're at the right one! Look for the Go Duck Yourself sign under the original Hing Lung Company signage and if you see a line of Grannies... you good! I arrive with a handful of others before me. I think I was the only non Cantonese speaker this early lol. Insider Tip: Yelp listings say 11:00am open, however it's actually open "around" 10:30am. I enter around 10:45am and order a Roast Duck Plate. Nowhere to sit so be prepared for take-out. I was really tempted on the Honey Glazed BBQ Pork but wanted to start with signature duck on my first visit. Roast Duck it is! Employees speak Cantonese, but don't be afraid lol as most speak fluent English. I was told to wait a few minutes because the Garlic Bok Choy was still being made. No worries, I'm down with fresh greens;) The Grannies were buying Roast Duck and slabs of BBQ meats of all sorts so it validated the authenticity! My order complete, bagged up with Au Jus sauce and Plum sauce! Bonus Insider Tip: Order in person vs. Online, it'll save a few bucks! Trust! CC accepted! I decided to picnic a few blocks away to a smaller park because I just couldn't wait getting to GG Park! The moment of truth... let's start with a mmm! It's all about quality at Go Duck Yourself and after I devoured the first few pieces it was clear no traces of MSG to be found. The skin was thin and crispy the way I like it with just enough fat for flavor. The meat succulent and tasty. Oh that Plum sauce (with a hint of citrus?) was heavenly to my curling tongue! In the end, I highly recommended Go Duck Yourself, a Chinatown second generation family business, offering the best Roast Duck around! Then consider no MSG is used, the quality of the meats, the freshness of the Bok Choy, and that Plum sauce... good luck finding anything more Ohhhhh baby! read more

You know it's good when there's a line of Asian aunties / grandmas waiting to order. Chinatown location is take out only and we usually get the roast duck and lean bbq pork. They accept cash or credit cards & it's cheaper to order in person vs via an app (Yelp, DoorDash, ubereats, grub hub). They used to do Too Good To Go and it was an awesome deal, but I haven't seen them available lately. Happy to hear that they are expanding and opening up a sit down space in Bernal Heights. read more

From what I can understand, this place is mainly a take-out place so I decided to get it from UberEats as we were craving some duck. The packaging and delivery were good, as we got our food intact and it was still warm when it got here. There weren't any delays, and it matched the estimated time of arrival pretty well. My girlfriend and I decided to get half a roast duck each for ourselves, along with some white rice to share. For $20 the portion of duck is good, as it'll definitely fill you up and probably leave some left-overs for later. Honestly, I feel that we probably could've just shared one order of the half duck between us, although it depends how hungry you are. The actual duck itself is great, as it's very fatty (if you like that) and comes with some delicious sauces for dipping! If you're a big fan of Chinese style duck, this place definitely won't disappoint. Highly recommend checking this place out or ordering from here if you have the chance! read more

Lived in dtsf for 6 years and I can't believe I haven't gone here! It's almost a shame for me to review this place on fear it will become expensive. It's basically a take out window because of covid. I came and there was no line. But one started to form behind me. They are very meticulous here and take pride in their food. You basically scream out your order though lol. I've gone to SEVERAL Chinese bbq places and no one does duck like they do. Every place has their own technique and secret recipe and this place takes the cake! The duck here is not greasy at all. I've cooked duck myself and it is quite impossible to render all the fat. I don't know if this place has a vendor that gives them ducks with less fat and more meat, but it's quality Everytime for such a great price for locals! Absolutely! Our whole hogs are from Olson Meat. Our BBQ pork is from Danish Crown, and our ducks are from Tasty Ducks. All of our product uses all natural ingredients. Salt, sugar, spices. No MSG, no nitrates or anything shady like that.
Can I call in and pick up?
Yes, but it's on Stockton Street and there is no street parking.
