We were passing by Harrison for dinner and Googled "best restaurant Harrison NY," and Quenas was listed as the second and fifth hits. And deservedly: Our dinner was phenomenal. The standout was Tiradito de Pescado, an appetizer of cold fish marinated in lemon juice and Peruvian yellow peppers. It was very lemony and very spicy, and my mouth is watering just remembering it. Delicious. Also, this might be trivial but Quenas's restroom is one of the cleanest, neatest, and most hospitable that I've ever seen in a restaurant. This is just one of those small points that tell you, yes, the owners really do care about your experience in their restaurant. The whole restaurant's decor was lovely, the service was warm and attentive...everything you want from a small restaurant. And of course, great fresh food. The food, friendly service and very different favors would warrant a 5 star but..... This isn't a 5 star restaurant. We sat outside which was pleasant but not 5 star. The inside was nice but simple. for what it is our entire party was very happy with each dish. Their rice was cooked perfect as was the fish special we ordered. Their wine was a bit expensive given their physical plant. All in all, as NYC restaurant patrons, we will definitely return. Just don't bring fancy schmancy snooty people here. Finally, I've found quality Peruvian cuisine in Westchester that is both delicious and special at the same time. I have been on a quest since our favorite spot, Cholo's Kitchen, (in New Rochelle), closed about a year ago. Now I have found another place that features traditional dishes like ceviche, Peruvian fried rice, hearty huge bowls of soups loaded with seafood, amazingly fresh salads, creamy rice pudding, a wide selection of seafood and chicken specialties, and more. The soup, salad, rice and pudding we had during lunch tasted as if someone's mom was in charge in the kitchen, producing comforting, comfort food, with the just right addition of seasoning and love. What's also lovely here is the gracious and friendly service that we received on a recent afternoon visit. I will have to return to sample more food before I give it give stars, but I will be happy to do that, as I plan to return often. So glad to have found you, Quenas! read more

It's a smallish restaurant so if you have a party bigger than 4, I'd try to call in advance to make sure they can properly set you up. Will definitely come back. First-rate service, charming atmosphere and wonderfully flavored dishes has pushed Quenas to the top of my list of favorite restaurants in Westchester County. I spent a lovely two hours on their patio enjoying Shirley's attention, banana nut kuka beer, and some delicious Peruvian cuisine. The Aji De Gallina was outstanding - just the right balance of flavors, with the chicken cooked to perfection. My dinner date had the Peruvian Paella, and I know she loved it because she only shared one bite with me. We finished it off with picarones with lucuma, which came served on a plate with honey, and a little rose made from cake icing. I hope that Quenas does well in the future. The residents of Harrison should be thrilled to have such a charming restaurant run by such nice people in their neighborhood. My first review and Quenas deserves it. The place is small but it feels "authentic" (Button down shirt feel, but not jacket), even though I've never been to Peru, so take that comment for what it's worth lol. The food was great and the waitress was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. We got the empanadas to start with, really good with the awesome green sauce. For dinner I got the Lomo Saltado (spelling?) and my wife got Tacu Tacu (spelling?), both were very flavorful. The portions are perfect, I'm a big dude and I was full but not stuffed after eating. I forgot the name of the beer I got, but it was a Peruvian beer that with a little sweetness, it's very good. My wife and I both have Caribbean backgrounds so we are accustomed to well done flavor combinations. WHY I WILL DEFINITELY GO BACK: I got a $20 for $40 coupon from Yelp and I presented it to the waitress (I'm pretty sure she's one of the owners, but I can't be sure). She brought us the check but along with the check she brought a beautifully presented piece of flan with a fan sliced strawberry on top of a chocolate drizzled plate, on the house. She said she couldn't let us leave without trying it. It was the best flan I've ever had, and although my wife wasn't feeling well from work and she was pretty stuffed (she's much smaller than me, she had leftovers), she couldn't stop taking additional bites. This is one of my restaurants in Westchester. The food is delcious, the staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is incredibly charming. In the warmer seasons they open the backyard for dining. It is lit up with colored lights and as always there is Peruvian pan flute music playing. The indoor seating is year round and the space is small, but cozy. The food is so tasty. I would eat here everyday. There is a lot of Peruvian food in the area, but I like this place because the dishes are fresh and the seasoning and presentation are superb. Pollo Saltado is my favorite. The service is good. Shirely knows the menu inside and out and is cheerful and accommodating. The service can get slow so go with the intention of spending a luxurious evening out. read more

I called the day before to update our count to 10-12, the restaurant rep started hemming and hawing...she actually said what if only 8 or 9 come? Sounds kinda silly to me. I always order jalea the first time I go to a Peruvian restaurant. In fact, I chose Peruvian because I had a strong hankering for a heaping pile of fried seafood. This was a stammering disappointment. The calamari rings were inedible - so chewy and flavorless - I chewed and chewed and couldn't get them down to swallowable proportions. The kitchen snuck a bunch of under-seasoned fried yucca onto my plate to beef up the dish. Lame! Some of the fish and shellfish was fishy - I mean in the way fresh fish is not supposed to be. They deep fried hard shell crab legs. What am I supposed to do with that? The meat inside the shell is dried out to nothing under such high heat. I can't very well much on the hard shell legs for sustenance. There was a single, lonely shrimp among this mess of its over-fried, under-seasoned and not-so-fresh sea dwelling brethren. The shrimp was pretty tasty. But all alone. I used a yelp coupon here. I think we got $10 off our bill. With this discount, if applied fully to my plate, I think it cost $13. Still not worth it. If I had been expected to pay the full $23, I might have had a fit. read more

There were plenty of moments during dinner where I felt like I was either on vacation or in a friend's backyard enjoying a meal. It's not a typical experience of dining in Harrison, NY. While some dishes were better than others the food on average was certainly worthy of checking out, but I wouldn't say it was the best Peruvian meal I ever had. I liked the vibe of the outdoor backyard seating but the tarp over the motercycle and noises from a nearby air conditioner took away from the experience. Food was good but delivery service will make you think twice getting food from here. Left instructions for delivery person to call when arrived in front of my house. He failed to do that. So when deliver man handed me the food and he asked me "are you not going to tip me or is it on total?" So I asked to write the tip on my receipt he told me it wasn't an option. I unfortunate had no cash and he stood front of my door just starting as why wasn't I going to look for some cash. It was an awkward situation, when my initial intentions was to place a tip on the receipt. the man left with a nasty and when I open my food it had spilled all over bag. Liked but did not love. We go to Inca and Gaucho in Port Chester and found that to be a better value with better food quality. We were given the choice of sitting inside (very small-cramped feeling) or out on the patio, we choose the patio. It was a beautiful day they had music playing (lots of Pan flute.. is that big in Peru??), But we were off to a good start. Service was on the slow side and the first waitress was unable to answer a number of our questions. The second waitress was much better. We did order a pitcher of Sangria, which was good not great but certainly enjoyable. The Mixed seafood ceviche (main course that we shared as an app) was tasty and spiced well. Wifey was a bit disappointed when she asked for bread and was told "we don't do bread"..we found that to be a bit surprising. Main Course, I ordered a steak dishes smothered in onions peppers and tomatoes. While the veggies were good the steak consisted of two very small, very and very tough pieces of skirt steak (not a good combination). When i say small I mean very small. Wifes dish was shrimp in a hot red sauce which again was very tasty. Took a long time to get the waitress back to request our bill.. when she finally arrived it again took an extremely long time (10 min) for her to show up with out the bill, but with a complementary flan dessert. The presentation (with dry ice) was noteworthy but the flan itself just meh. I wanted to like this place as the patio is very cute, but unfortunately there are too many restaurants to try, to give average restaurants a second chance. read more

Visited 7/23, 7pm Superb patio. Food was good. They had 3 tables seated with couples already eating. We ordered drinks and food. 45min later we get the appetizer, tiradito, which is prepared in advance and cooking is not required. In this restaurant food is delivered to the table and you dońt see your waitress unless you call her. There ´s no interest to find out if all is good or if you need anything else. To get a second round of drinks I had to get up and walk to the waitress. We finished eating and waited and waited. I had no patience to wait another 20min for dessert. I had to get up and request the bill. Given the lack of service I was generous enough to allow the waitress to enter 15%tip on the credit card terminal. She informed me that the minimum tip listed in the terminal was 18%. I will give this place a second try in the future because od the cool patio and hope that the service improves the second time around. read more

Cute little place... great food!! The seafood was very fresh, best crab I've had in a while. Their sauces were very unique and flavorful. I had a spicy seafood something or other, and it was really amazing...very spicy though, so be careful. Good thing I could handle it.... It was seriously spicy, not like the Italian fra diavolo sauce but comparable to unbearably hot Thai curry. The fried donuts were unbelievable, as for the flan... Was looking for a new place to try for dinner and came across Quenas. My wife and I absolutely loved the place, small and cozy but very casual. The food was great and our waitress, Shirley, was incredible; she took the time to explain the food (this goes a long way for us). We started with the fish and shrimp ceviche, it was one of the best I've ever had. We also had the two specials for the night, trout which was perfectly fried, and some seafood dish (sorry, I forgot the name) that had mussels, squid, octopus, crab, and shrimp, this dish was lacking a little for us but still very tasty. House made hot sauce and toasted corn is addicting! The only downside was the glass of Malbec we ordered, it was ice cold and near its prime. We can't wait to go back and try more! read more
