Around 11..11:30am On The Tuesday The 18th, I Walked In This Place To Place A Pickup An Order. The Individual Who Was Behind The Counter Was An Older Caucasian Female Was Not Courteous Or Professional. Though She Saw Me Enter The Door She Walked Away From Her Station. I Didn't Want To Assume So I Waited A Few Minutes. She Returned Without Greeting Me Then Proceeded To Ask What Did I Need? The Energy I Was Receiving Felt Riddled In Racism! I Also Felt Her Demeanor Is Nasty In General. Now I Could Have Returned That Energy By Judging Her On Her Oral & Physical Appearance But The Universe Handles All. Anyways I Placed My Order Which Was A Ham Club Sandwich With Regular Fries. She Walked Away To Give The Order To The Cook. I Sat At An Empty Booth To Wait. She Swipes & I Sign Then Leaves. Normally I Will Not Take My Receipt Or Will Throw It Away When I Order Food. This Time I Kept It Cause I Just Felt I Should. Now Here Comes Wednesday. I Check My Bank Statement & It Shows $22.23 For Rj's. She Wrote Herself A Tip...I Was Hot!!! I Called The Restaurant & Explained What Had Happen. The 1st Response From One Of The Evening Shift Females Stated "We Don't Do That"...I Replied Obviously The "WE" Do! She Then States Had To Be A Mistake. I Replied "Honey The Only Mistake Was This Thief Stole From Me"! She Stated The Owners Are Not There Right Now To Unlock The Door Where They Keep All Receipts. She Wanted A Screenshot Of The Charge. Being I Was On That Side Of Town, I Went To Rj's & Showed Them From My Phone. She Took My Info & Told Me To Expect A Follow-up The Next Day. The Next Day Came & NOTHING. So I Called Back & The Manager Answered. I Let Her Know What Was Happening. She Then Went To Talk To The Owner. She Relayed A Message From The Owner To Screenshot The Charge & Send To Her Phone. I Let Her Know All That Was Done The Previous Day. Also Informed Her That All Info Collected Was Placed On The Side Of The Register. She Found It & Took It Upon Herself To Try To Amend The Criminal Act. I Asked Her Could I Speak With The Owner But The Owner Did Not Want To Speak With Me At No Time Not Even Later On. For Me This Showed The Owner Is Very Aware Of Gloria's Unlawful Acts!!! I Told The Manager, I Was Pressing Charges Cause 1 Thing Is Sure If I Had Stolen Anything From Rj's I Would Have Been Arrested. I Told Her Being The Employee Stole From Me She Surely Has Stolen From Others & No Telling For How Long!!! Needless To State I Will Never Go Back To This Place. Also I Now Check Any & All My Receipts!!! I Also Filed A Commerce Complaint Against Rj's. Trying Figure Out How To Get The Right Department To File A Complaint Against This Restaurant Not Just A Criminal Complaint Against Gloria. read more

I must say I've been coming here only on and off but for many years. We won't be coming here any longer. The food isn't bad and it isn't great. The prices are a little high but they are a little high everywhere now. This last time we went; however, will be the last. We always go and pick up a few meals and bring them home to eat. We have a disabled family member and it's much easier for them to eat at home. We always got the senior discount and no one ever gave us a hard time - until this last time. Now we're told that in order to receive the senior discount we must eat in the restaurant. If we get it to go we won't get the discount. We're all either on disability or retirement and on very low fixed income so we rely on the senior discounts at the places that offer it so it may sound trivial but to us it adds up. Honestly, once we purchase our food, where we choose to eat it is none of their concern - in the restaurant, in our vehicles, in our homes. We get the senior discount at the drive thrus of virtually every fast food place in town and don't have to eat there to get it. This is an asinine rule that is hurting both the elderly and the disabled who frequented this restaurant. It may even be in violation of discrimination laws by only offering the senior discount if you eat inside the restaurant. read more

We came in about 3pm right around shift change, Didn't take too long for our order. We got the Burger with Cajun fires. The Cajun fries weren't very Cajun but they were good. The burger was good, cooked correctly not undercooked. Our servers name was Beth , great attitude. They took our drinks off the bill since it took a little while to get out, since it was shift change. But overall the food was good. The food was more pricey than most little dinners like this. Service was real with us n didn't both us too much which was cool cuz after working all day it was nice to not have to talk a lot. Food was cheap n really good. A lot food for yr buck. I have been here many many times! I would give the place a 0 if I could! I used to do the night life scene and would go I late at night and there was a sweet sweet little short waitress her name was Tamara or Tammy, that's the days I would have given this place a five star! She was so kind and always got our order correct! The last few times I've been in there the server was rude and seemed intoxicated on some sort of substance. She just kept standing there talking instead of turning our order in, my children were crying hungry. The cook had an attitude and I seen a roach crawl on my table! This restaurant has the BEST HOMESTYLE BREAKFAST IN SHREVEPORT/Bossier. I searched for a local place that has good breakfast. After several Google searches I saw pictures. I was a little concerned about the outside appearance in the pictures but gave it chance. We were welcomed the moment we walked in. Great Customer Service and amazing food. Is was a little grungy dive diner with sticky floors and menus but the food was surprisingly good. Friend got biscuits and gravy that she liked and I got the chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes which was really good. The rest of the group seemed to like their food too. Kinda small. Ac is very good.. its cold here... no complaints about that. Server was very fast as restaurant was pretty crowded. My family of 6 arrived at 1230pm on a Sunday. We have lived in Shreveport for years and just tried RJ's for the first time tonight. We should have come sooner! Don't let the outside fool you. From there it looks like the kind of place where you could only get a greasy burger or a dried up ham and cheese sandwich on white bread. Inside, you will find this is an old-school diner with hot sandwiches and southern comfort foods. My husband and I ordered one chicken spaghetti (the Saturday night special) which came with a side salad and toasted rolls. We also ordered a veggie plate which comes with four veggies and split the two platters between the two of us. The cook and waitress were kind enough to divide the chicken spaghetti portions between the two of us without us even having to ask. It came out piping hot, had a subtle kick and was good enough to compete with Grandma's. The green beans were alright if a little plain, very soft and cooked with potatoes rather than pork and vinegar - a style a bit less common in the area but still true to southern cuisine. The black eyed peas were a pinkish variety but otherwise standard. I had a nibble of my husband's fried ocra and it was right-out-the-grease hot, crisp and yummy. The chocolate pie I ate for dessert was topped with heavy cream and definitely rocked my socks - perhaps the best chocolate pie in town. You'd think a southern city like Shreveport would be teeming with little places like this but it has surprisingly few. Strawn's and The Cotton Boll are two big players for southern style home cooking here. RJ's is far less well known but totally competes. Tonight's meal at RJ's had a less processed taste than Strawn's and less grease than Cotton Bowl. I'll be back again to see how it compares all around. read more

The menu has been updated and prices have changed. RJ's has been in business for over 30 years; lots of regular customers. It's kind of a hole in the wall but not really! The food is amazing! Closest to a home cooked meal you will find in Shreveport! There is lots to choose from on the menu and the daily specials are delicious and reasonably priced for the quality and quantity of food you get! Chicken Fried Steak and Chopped Steak with or without eggs, are top selling plates. The burgers are out of this world and if ya choose breakfast, you won't regret it! You will never leave RJ's hungry , the portions are very healthy and never lacking! The 3pm to 11 pm shift is the best to eat on! The waitresses are funny and friendly and will always try to find a way to save ya a few cents. The graveyard shift waitress is usually working alone but has it under control! It may take a little longer, but worth it!They have video poker and stay open 24-7! It's a very comfy place! Ya either love it or ya just haven't been at the right time!! I ordered a cheeseburger and fries. Meat was real, no pre made stuff. My waitress ran around the entire time incoherently mumbling to herself. If you sit on the right side of the bar be warned it's where the dishwasher and sinks are so you will smell the slop trashcan and the dishwasher which neither is pleasant smelling. This is not the place you should take your girl on the 1st date unless she's the type that dips snuff, does her own engine work on her off road pickup truck and....well you get the picture. This is a greasy spoon and a darn good one overall and I am rating this restaurant within that category, not comparing it to an expensive fine dining establishment. So much of Shreveport is shut down and dead by 10pm so you have very limited options close by...Whataburger, and there is a very good Waffle House nearby but the night shift is not stellar and there is a much wider array of menu choices here. RJ's has been here forever it seems like and while all those highfalutin eateries have either avoided this area like the plague or abandoned us for the glitter of Youree Drive, RJ's has stood fast because they are a kindred spirit. They are there for us 24 hours a day serving up delicious and hearty meals in generous portions. They work hard at what they do. Service is always decently good. Sometimes you may not get as many smiles and pleasantries as you had hoped for but try to realize that those servers are often busting their buns from table to table and have had to deal with some unsavory characters before you came in as RJ's gets all sorts. Pancakes made with grill cleaner We've eaten here before with mediocre results, but breakfast this morning was the worst. We split a big breakfast that came with pancakes, and the pancakes tasted like they were made with industrial cleaners. Now we're both sick, throwing up, and it feels like we swallowed fire. I absolutely love this place! Best coffee! Great service! If you go in the morning time during the week a waitress named Crystal works here. She is the best! I love these little diners! I have never had a problem and they have 24 hour specials and lunch specials during the week days! They are also open 24 hours. I work overnight sometimes and this place is the best! Been over a year since last review...check ins here typically follow an evening at TimeOut...something about it gets me going for a Chicken Fried...however my welcome is mighty thin cause the lady that's the night manager don't really care for me all that much, I think....maybe has to do with my flirting with her daughters who waitressed here in the past and maybe still do...plus the Po Po is usually well represented after 2 AM... Great place to grab a southern breakfast. The portions are large. Just check out one of the breakfast items on the menu offering 5 pancakes in addition to the traditional eggs, and breakfast meat. The waitress served our table well. There were 5 of us eating at the table and she made sure our coffee was full and promptly served our orders. I was looking forward to getting a biscuit with my breakfast (eggs, bacon, and hashbrowns (yeah, yeah, but I ate my grits the previous morning)) but was surprised that I received 2. :) My husband had ordered the chicken fried steak and it was as large as the plate itself. He said they had perfected the chicken fried part with it's seasoned crispiness holding its own up to the sausage gravy. Love RJ's. Been eating here for years. It's not fancy by any means!!! It's a basic diner setting!! But the food is delicious and the portions are generous. It is not expensive ($7.99 for my meal). Drinks are always promptly refilled and waitresses are friendly, fast and efficient. I ordered the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes. Chicken fried steak was crispy, hot, tender, well seasoned and delicious. Large serving of homemade mashed potatoes covered in homemade white gravy( also well seasoned) was delicious. My diner companion ordered the liver and onions. This was also tasty ( and I'm not a huge fan of liver!!! So this surprised even me). RJ's is open 24/7 and is definitely worth the time to enjoy a great meal. Would have given 5 stars, but the atmosphere is pretty ordinary. I only gave it one star because I can't give it lower. The food was good, but they nickle and dimed me so much that I paid $14.95 for a $7.95 hamburger. It was the old fashioned hamburger, that is advertised to come with an egg on it, fried and a drink for $7.95. They charged me extra for the egg, that is supposed to come on it, as well as other stuff, to include $1.85 for adding jalapenos. I got 4 jalapenos on my hamburger and was charged $1.85 for those 4 jalapeno slices. When they got done nickle and diming me for stuff, my bill for a old fashioned haburger, (with jalapenos) fries and a drink that was advertised for $7.95 turned out to be $14.95, plus tip. Good food, good atmosphere, friendly staff, huge portions, and fair prices. The chicken fried steak is good, and I'm a big fan of the spaghetti. Chopped steak and eggs is another favorite (you gotta try the home fries, add cheese. DO IT.) You'll never see the bottom of your drink cup, either. All in all, I think it's a great place for a quiet dinner with the wife, a midnight breakfast after a night out, or a quick lunch. read more
