A week ago, I asked my mom what she wanted for dinner. She said Korean. Our usual Korean restaurant, Minji's, was closed on Sunday so I Google'd and found R.O.K. They didn't open 'till 5 so I went to the nearby Asian market to browse. We had already decided on BBQ. Usually you have to cook the food at your table, but at R.O.K., they bring the food out on fajita platters, sizzling, perfectly seasoned, and hot until the next wave comes. After trying both methods, I prefer this way. Everything was hot, tender and flavorful. The banchan were made there and included mook, kimchi (radish and napa), bean sprouts, fish cake, and omelette. The salad was simple, but with an amazing dressing, unlike other dressings I've tried. We tried the fried chicken gizzards with shracha and sambal sauces but were told that the stir-fried gizzards were much better...and they are!!! The ssam wraps were red leaf lettuce and big enough to hold the portions I wanted to fill them with. We met the chef, Mike, and his sister Sandy who does just about everything there. The homemade mook (both regular and acorn), kimchi, and kongjaban are prepared with Mikes mother's recipes. Delicious. The kimchi is the best I've ever had...so far. That was the FIRST day. Second day, Stir-fried chicken gizzards (moist and tender), whole fried Cornish hen (flavorful and juicy), and the smoked salmon croquettes (light and smoky)...with a bottle of dongdongju...carbonated, unfiltered sake. Spicy ROK tuna and avocado salad with wasabi creme fraiche (think tuna tartar), homemade taro chips. This isn't a pre-made, mass-produced ceviche. He tosses it with just enough citrus right before service to firm up the shrimp. We were really excited to try this place out because it's the only all you can eat Korean bbq around here that we know of. Each table has the option of everyone doing all you can eat or everyone doing a la carte. If you're ready to chow down, I think the all you can eat is a pretty fair deal price wise. We ordered the one with the unlimited pork belly, spicy pork, beef, and chicken. The pork belly was our favorite, especially with the dipping sauces. Wish I would of upgraded to the option with the short ribs because the chicken was just okay & the ribs would have been more flavorful. I tried a soft drink that was yogurty (I think its called milkis), but I didn't like it too much. Service was pretty good, though it started getting busy. There's a button on the table that you can press when you want anything. Overall, I think this is a good place when you're in the mood to eat a lot. When my friends asked me if I wanted to drive an extra 20 minutes from the place we were already at to grab some food, I was hesitant. I found a few places nearby with good reviews, but then my buddy said something that changed everything: Family owned Korean BBQ. I was in. All in. In Miami, real Korean BBQ is hard to find, but we were in Broward now, all bets were off! As I opened the menu, the first thing I saw was 'Unlimited Korean BBQ - $27'...what? Clearly I was dreaming, but nope, it is true. The options include short ribs, spicy beef, BBQ pork, chicken thighs, pork belly, and possibly other options. Unfortunately, I wasn't hungry enough to commit to the unlimited plan (though, after trying my food, I should have). I decided to go with the BBQ Pork Belly plate. It was accompanied by onions, rice, and all the fixings you would expect from a Korean restaurant (Try the spicy Kimchi, so good!). Listen, I LOVE Pork Belly. Who doesn't? (Don't answer that, for my own sanity). The Pork Belly at R.O.K was definitely one of the better variations I have tried. The pork belly was full of flavor, crunchy and not overly fatty tasting (a huge problem for pork belly). The onion is really the secret ingredient that sends this plate to the moon. If you have ever tried a Cuban Vaca Frita, imagine that texture but in Korean BBQ with more flavor. Yes, MORE flavor. Despite the portion size being large, I wanted more. Oh, sweet pork, how I love thee. One more thing: R.O.K has a Karaoke room in the back! You could hear people having the time of their lives in the back room and, next time, I will be there as well. R.O.K (which stands for Republic of Korea) is a simple restaurant, no crazy decor or upscale environment. As I said before, this place is family run, the staff (and chef) will come to check on you throughout your meal, and the waitress is the owner's girlfriend. I don't understand why the very few Korean restaurants in south Florida are all located right next to each other. This place is located next door to Manna's. I felt like I was cheating on Manna's by going in here. I even parked a little down the way. The waitress was super friendly and sweet. The food was legit. I got the dduckbokki cause I have not been able to find a decent one in FL and I gotta say, they do make it pretty well. (not NYC, LA or Korea standard but pretty good. Better than the other restaurants near by) The banchan (side dishes) were good; some I haven't seen since living at home with my parents. The pork belly was really good with the onion scallion salad. I even liked the chicken. (which is not traditionally Korean) As far as food goes, I would say they are one of the best in south florida. I will definitely be back to try other items on the menu. They're open til 2am which is nice since my family eats late, and we only drive this way when I need to do Korean grocery shopping. SInce a visit to a Korean BBQ restaurant is usually a special occasion due to the high prices, I was excited to discover a new Korean BBQ that looked affordable, and gave it a try. What a pleasant surprise! ROK is clean, spacious, and without much decor. We ordered the Korean BBQ - but without the Beef ribs (an extra $5... I would have, but just wasn't THAT hungry). It came with everything to make a beautiful feast! Green salad with sesame dressing, Crisp Spring rolls, scallion salad, an awesome Miso stew, banchan (at least 8 types), and 4 types of grilled meats (beef, pork, chicken, and pork belly) with rice, lettuce for wrapping it up, and dipping sauces. As Korean BBQ, I was really pleased! everything was fresh, hot, and well seasoned. Nothing outrageously spicy (which I like too), and the Waitress was so friendly and helpful (She's the owner's daughter and sister to the CHEF). After we had stuffed ourselves to the point of loosening our belts, we were asked about dessert. "Oh, No, thank you, we are so stuffed - couldn't eat another bite, really!" UNTIL.... we found out that the CHEF actually makes all the desserts himself, and that he really wanted to have us try one - what would it be? House made Key lime pie? or Creme Brulee? We reluctantly went with the pie, but when it arrived - OMG!!! it was awesome! Silky, Bright with plenty of lime, and a buttery graham crust.... (we ate it ALL!) The Chef came out to introduce himself after the meal. Turns out, he's a classically trained French/Mediterranean chef, who happens to have worked in some of the finest restaurants and resorts all over the world. And he's a really nice guy, who is clearly passionate about all things food. He's serving up killer Korean, but he's got quite a few tricks up his sleeve, and some non Korean dishes are snuck into the menu here and there too. The tables also have a button the rings for when you need a server to come back to your table for something. When we last visited they did not have the do it yourself grills but we're in the process of transitioning! So that should be exciting! Ive always gotten the AYCE bbq with or with out the calbi. I am always impressed by the quality and consistency if this place. The banchan taste homemade and its delicious. You also get a miso soup and a lRge salad to share. You dont have to grill yiur own meat they bring it in sizzling hot plates which takes a little away from the fun of cooking your meat then and there. First time there, I tried the all you can eat BBQ, there are two kinds, the 27 dollar one comes with short ribs, I think it's a 5 dollar upgrade so it's totally worth it. Don't get me wrong, their BBQ is excellent, it's just I don't do soy sauce. I've been trying to go "paleo" for like a whole two years now and soy sauce was one of the things that I could do without. Second time I went there with my mom, she fell in love with the place. She swears it's the best bang for the buck for their "Soon Tofu." It's a mildly spicy Korean soup with no kidding, a LOAD of seafood. I've also tried their "Jap Chae" noodles, I really like it! The portion is big, it's got beef and clear noodles. It's different than mei fun, which is rice noodles. These clear noodles are made from beans. Yeah I know, Asians and their noodles lol, I stopped questioning their methods the day my mom made sure I knew I have Taiwanese blood flowing through my veins. They've also got some not so Korean dishes on their menu, at first I was like why? But then I ordered it and I was like ohhhh that's why. The service is extremely slow here and my original server left in the middle of our meal without letting us know. I ordered a red Raspberry wine and had a chipped glass. Knowing myself, I would be the girl that forgot and cut her lip so I asked for another glass. I didn't receive that glass till more than half way through our meal. I went with the all you can eat BBQ and asked for Kalbi. I asked how many pieces would I get for take out, so he said 12 Kalbi, banchans, and rice. He said to give him about 15 mins. They gave me extra rice, and brought out the banchans first so I was picking at these while I waited, consisted of bean sprouts, fried egg and scallion strips, fish cake, Nokdumuk, and kimchi...YUM. Brought everything home and the Kalbi was great, very thinly sliced, and very flavorful and tender. They must grill the kalbi with alot of onion and scallions it was delicious. Where do I even begin? It's amazing and you will find yourself craving the food the day after. The first time I went there was to celebrate my birthday. My friends and I reserved the karaoke room first because sometimes it isn't available. We all went all out and decided to do the all you can eat BBQ. It was so delicious! The side dishes really do compliment the main dishes quite well. I'm seriously addicted to their salad. Well anyways there were seven of us and mind you we were all people of big appetites. I mean after the first round of the BBQ we were getting full and by the second we were stuffed. It was worth every penny though. I soon became a regular. I came back for the pork belly itself and soon found out there was even more amazing food beyond that. I tried the scallops pasta which was creamy and very flavorful. The hen.... my eyeballs rolled back once my tastebuds got a hold of it. The skin was crispy and the meat wasn't dry at all but very tender and moist. My goal is to try everything on that menu because whatever I've tried so far I've came back for more the next time. The service is so friendly. All you can eat Korean BBQ? Let's do this. I stopped in around 11pm on a Saturday, because most restaurants in the area are closed at this time. R.O.K. caters to the late night crowd for sure. They have two karaoke rooms available, but they seem to be booked early, so make reservations ahead of time if you're thinking of getting one. We tried the kalbi and bulgogi, and both were delicious. I love the call button on the table, which makes summoning your server completely hassle free. I wish more restaurants would do this. The great part of this is at the table they give you a little button that you can call the waitresses when you need something, I thought that was a really neat feature. I went last weekend with my husband and we already want to go back. Perfect for your big eaters and those who love Korean food. We had the all you can eat dinner, I believe it was called Expanded? So it came with extra sides, miso soup and short ribs. The manager that evening was a young woman, she recommended for us to try the onions with the Pork Belly. And we were singing her praises again and again for it. It helps to cut the fat of the pork belly and allows you to fully appreciate the flavors. Besides the pork belly, the short ribs and Marinated Chicken earned my heart. Every cut was soft and perfectly seasoned. It comes with white rice, fish cakes, onions, salad (their ginger dressing is the best), kim chi, lettuce and a couple of other sides. Every single side was great. It's hard enough finding good Korean food in general, so imagine my excitement when I found an all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ restaurant in Florida. R.O.K is different in that the buffet is made to order instead of having a self-serve tabletop grill. The advantages are that you don't have to cook and you don't leave smelling of BBQ the rest of the day, but you give up the control of how you like your meat cooked and how quickly you're turning over each round. For $22, you get a decent variety of banchan, miso soup, rice, lettuce wraps, salad, and four meats. I loved the mung bean cakes, which were new to me, and the traditional fishcakes. I wasn't a big fan of the miso soup; it was just a hodgepodge of ingredients, which was an afterthought. The meat was the highlight of dinner. I finally had pork belly done right because I'm usually too impatient to wait for the thicker cut of meat to cook and crisp thoroughly. My favorite plate was the spicy marinated pork, followed by the chicken and the beef. We ended up going through 11 plates of meat between the four of us. Dinner was enjoyable and service was quick and attentive, although you should probably place your next round of orders after you get your plates. Might be safe to say, it is the most authentic Korean food in Broward. The apps, the bbq, the entrees and the staff make this a must come. Never tried chicken gizzards before but I'm now a fan. The pork belly appetizer stood out the most for me though. For an entree recommend the Chicken Karage. Has some of the most authentic Korean fried chicken flavor around, blessed with Katsu and spicy mayo flavors. Overall this is a must come for authentic Korean food if you're in the area. read more

My family and I went here on superbowl sunday( so im writing this preety late). It was fairly empty as a result. We had the buffet, which was good and tasty in some parts. Shredded beef was the best. Pork belly was hard, and chicken wasn't too good. I liked that you could make a lettuce wrap. You have to really annoy the server if you want anything refilled though (besides the meat). they can be a little stingy. Also all the meat was wayyyy overly salted, but still good. Besides that, the service gives it one extra star. Our waiter was so nice and helpful. My mom can be very annoying when ordering, and he was great. She asked for some "sweet" sauce, and he had no trouble accommodating her. She also asked if we could have a dessert with our buffet, and he gave us a creme brûlée at no extra charge. Best Korean BBQ place I've ever been to. Great service and great selection of food. It's all you can eat and they bring you out the dishes already prepared, saves you the hassle of having to wait while it cooks on the little grill and the sauces and marinades are to die for. We decided on this restaurant for a business dinner as the reviews were quite good and the food looked delicious in most of the photos. The restaurant is seat yourself with a vast menu. We decided on the all you can eat option but a few things struck us as odd. Everyone at the table has to agree to the all you can eat which is basically forcing others at the table to pay the $22 or $27 upgrade charge. They also don't allow you to take your leftovers with you but have a huge sign on the chalkboard saying "don't waste food". Um, wouldn't me not taking my leftovers be wasteful? Confused. After all the rules and regulations we ordered and everything was delicious. This is an insane amount of food! There were 3 of us and that amount of food could've easily served 2 more adults. Maybe the plan here would be to offer all you can eat based on how many are seated so you waste less food and people can enjoy a multitude of options. Just a thought. The service started out great but quickly dwindled. The red bell button is awesome for getting their attention but it becomes obnoxious as you continue to push the button hoping someone will come and you're still ignored. They don't have any wine by the glass options only Korean wine sold by the bottle which was understandable but it left me wanting something with my meal, as I was the only one who wanted some wine I wasn't going to order an entire bottle to myself. Though the servers were informative they were somewhat slow and haphazard. We asked what they would recommend and they said "everything is good" which is a wonderful compliment to your cooking staff but doesn't really assist the guest in making a choice upon their first visit. We weren't told about dessert or anything after our main meal, not that we could consume anymore but it would've been nice to know what the options were. Overall, I'm sure the speed of service was somewhat of a fluke. Either way the food is insanely delicious so we will certainly be trying it out again. read more

No matter how what time I eat here, the food is good and service is always friendly. The AYCE is the way to go, especially if you're a big eater. The other dishes are also good. My favorites on the AYCE are the scallion salad, the potatoe salad, spicey pork, pork belly with the sesame oil and soy bean paste, and the soup. read more

What can I say? I'm in Love! I haven't had Korean food in over a decade, and now I'm asking myself WHY?! This place has been open about 6 months and apparently, nobody's figured out it's here yet. There were two tables when I walked in.. and I was the only table when I left. The staff was super nice and friendly and took the time to explain to me what incredible delicacies they set before me. I opted for the Buffet ($22 or $27 with beef ribs) so I could try a little of everything. Don't expect one of those hot-plate Chinese-like buffets where you have to keep getting up to stuff yourself senseless. You start with the works and then add extra of what you like or want more of. This is the first buffet I've been too where I couldn't finish what hit my table from the first go-round. An abundance of food, LOTS of wonderful dishes, fabulous flavors, and well, just WOW. The restaurant appears to be run by a family, and everyone was exceptionally polite... which could explain one of the other reviewer's comments about the server looking a little bewildered. Awesome KBBQ!! For $24 you get unlimited bulgogi, spicy pork, crispy pork belly, and marinated chicken along with all the traditional Korean side dishes. Will definitely be back. Went to this spot as a recommendation from a friend and we were quite disappointed with both the food, service and the level of noise being that it's also a karaoke bar as well and not well sound proofed rooms. Being that this isn't the first Korean BBQ type of restaurant I've been to, I can say with certainty that it's the one I've enjoyed the least. BTW you don't cook your own meats, they cook them in the back and bring them to you which I didn't like because you can't add your favorite sauces or seasonings to your meats and just settle for the bland tasting meats that arrive at the table. We all ordered the $22. Package and got everything but the spicy pork. The chicken was very good but the other meats lacked seasoning. We ordered a second round of meats and that took forever.
