Have tried Rabano 3 times now. Love the concept and the ability to order and pay online. On a recent to go order, I paid extra for extra grilled veggies on each of the 3 entrees I ordered but when I got home, instead of extra veggies, they added potatoes. Oh no! Im trying to eat healthy and keep my girlish figure! Maybe a mistake. So be sure to say No Potatoes" if you order extra veggies. Finally able to check out Rabano after waiting such a long time since we saw them put up their sign. Today they were opened up until 3pm and re-opened at 4pm. So just in case check the hours before you go. They have a good system in place where you can order from the tablets on the right or at the register. We liked the fact that they have boba a wide variety of drinks to choose from. We tend to like boba and have to make additional stops to get boba so this was of convenience. The boba has a good texture, its chewy and not too soft. We tried the Thai tea and the coconut milk. The coconut milk was tasty and a nice difference from the usual milk tea we get. I ordered the Cubans pork with half white rice and greens. The rice had a hint of lime which was quite nice with the pork. The pork was very tender was very decent portion of pork. It also came with plantains and black beans. It was a well rounded dish that hit both savory and sweet. I would get this again. The staff was attentive and nice. It was a little busy so there was some wait time for our food which is to be expected. I also tried their cauliflower mushroom soup (soup of he day) it tasted like a regular cream of mushroom but with a cleaner flavor which was delightful. So excited to try this place after waiting a while for it to open up and it did not disappoint. Great little spot that serves sandwiches, bowls, and salads. They also have a great variety of drinks to try. I got the bahn mi sandwich and it was very tasty! It's very similar to Mendocino Farms which is one of my favorite sandwiches ever and holds up against it. My girlfriend got the Cubano bowl which she really enjoyed. I had a taste and the pork was very flavorful and tender. I also like the plantains it came with. The portion was big and definitely enough to fill you up. For drinks we got a Thai tea and coconut milk tea with boba. The Thai tea was very good, but I really like the coconut milk tea. Service was good and ordering from iPads at the front entrance is quick and easy. I'll definitely be coming back and this will be one of my new go to spots. read more

Rabano is a welcome casual café serving healthy food in Hermosa Beach at the southeast corner of Artesia and PCH. There is a small lot in front as well as ample parking behind, but I expect that parking is a real challenge when there are services at Hope Chapel. The small café does a healthy carry out business. You choose whether to order at the counter or at one of the three iPads. The menu has appetizers, soup, salad, sandwiches and their signature bowls as well as fresh sodas, juices and smoothies. Once your order is placed, you can sit at one of the 3 high tops that each seat 6 (some are dining communally) or one of the 4 tops. There is not a lot of seating. The décor is very casual - molded modern chair, butcher block tables and wood stools are surrounded by green walls. The background music is muted, which is nice as the restaurant is not too loud. The staff is very friendly - teenagers from the area who are not necessarily pros but are very eager. The owners, who also own W's China Bistro, are friendly, informative and accommodating. The best thing about this place is their effort to make sure each plate comes out perfectly (even if that means a late delivery because they initiate a re-do). Our party of 6 took up an entire "communal" table and was able to sample quite a bit of the menu. We had: Broccoli Parmesan Soup ($5 for Bowl): the modest sized bowl of steaming verdant soup was stopped with a bit of shaved parmesan. The soup itself was a light and sweet puree of broccoli, chicken broth and potatoes. It was very good. Edamame Wontons ($6): a must order. These crisp envelopes containing an edamame, mushroom, Romano puree are drizzled with sweetened siracha and sprinkled with grated Romano and parsley. They are sweet and spicy with lots of crunch. For the bowls, you pick your base from white rice (standard), ancient grains (a nice blend of brown rice and quinoa) or raw greens (spring mix). I loved the spring mix based option, but the brown rice and quinoa mixture that DH had was also good. We had the following bowls: La Bamba: pulled pork was topped with a chipotle crema sauce and pico de gallo and was served with black beans and roasted corn. The meat was tender and moist but not fatty, the crema had a nice medium heat, and the veggies were sweet and very fresh. The black beans were a little saucy and brought it all together. Very good. Peruvian Saltado with Steak ($11): sliced steak with sautéed French fries, onion and tomato in a mild Peruvian mint sauce with a hint of red pepper and fresh cilantro. DD loved this, and I had no complaints about the bite that I had. EL Koreano with Steak ($11): this bowl was so good that I had to steal two bites. Tender, medium steak (which for me is usually overcooked but this was very good) is sliced with a little hot sauce and served with steamed baby bok choy, sliced cucumbers, shredded carrots, fresh cabbage-carrot kimchi and a sweet umami sauce. The medium heat with the sweet sauce and then the crunchy veg with the tender meat is a winner. Awesome. Sustainable Steelhead ($13): IMO, the best thing on the table. The fish was insanely fresh and rich and was served rare as requested. It was topped with a generous and very fresh basil-cilantro pesto. Along side, there was grilled vegetables and relatively sweet Peruvian aji chile sauce. WOW! The smoky veggies with the rich fish and the herbaceous and sweet sauces were an absolute flavor explosion. The lemon squeezed over the top added just the right amount of tang and lightness to the dish. They also have handcrafted sodas. DD loved the acai lime and DM enjoyed the very spicy ginger ale. I might give this place another try. If you plan to go in and sit, beware it's very limited seating. And most of it was filled with young kids and families, and though I love kids and am a teacher myself, this seemed abnormally loud. Seating is also mostly high chairs or stools with no back support. The ac unit above our table dripped the entire time. On our table, our clothes, and thankfully we noticed quickly otherwise it would of been in our food and drinks as well. You order from a tablet that you have to awkwardly stand in line for which there were only two, and of those two only one worked. There was no option to leave a note or requests for your meal like sauces on the side. So In the end I had to wait in a second line to fix my order with a customer service person. Employees were really nice and very helpful. It seems like the place couldn't support the level of customers. Food was good, I wouldn't say extremely special which is why I may try it again and only for take out. And only if I were already in the area. There is something for whatever mood in which you find yourself. Plus! I am a big fan of milk teas and iced teas, and they do that here, too. Because of the mushroom/tofu combo, the Tofubello sandwich was filling in a satisfying way. The sauce provided a light, creamy moisture that would have been heavier and more pungent with cheese. Of course, the focaccia bread was flavorful and tasty. I ordered the Roasted Vegetables bowl subbing the grain base for black beans. If you do the same, I suggest ordering the black beans on the side (which I did the next time) because the black beans are soupy, which makes the vegetables soggy. I love the Roasted Vegetables bowl because the variety of vegetables (from zucchini to beets) gives me a spectrum of nutrients and leaves me feeling full but not bloated. Healthy, satisfying food. The array of dishes here will keep this place going for a while. There are 3 types of entrees to order - sandwiches, salads or bowls. We chose to get the Spicy Thai Chicken and the La Bamba. Nothing tasted heavy or greasy. All the ingredients tasted fresh and the meals were packed with flavor. The chicken was juicy and the rice was cooked perfectly. My only drawbacks are the chaotic ordering process and the staff. The user interface on the tablets is a bit difficult to use. It's also unclear why there are ordering stations on the side as well as a staffed cashier. Then, there's like 6 people behind the counter confusedly looking around, unsure who ordered what. It is literally HIT OR MISS. Inconsistent with customer service and quality of food. Sometimes my fries would be undercooked and soggy and other times they taste great! Sometimes the meat in my tacos would include generous portions and other times just filled with fat and no meat. Sometimes the patty in my burger would be cooked medium and sometimes -- almost completely raw. I am so sick of the inconsistency. The staff rarely has good customer service, then some days they would have exceptional customer service. We've never once ever thought the words "the vegetables are amazing" but that's what we felt! The vegetables we're so crisp and FRESH. My husband's take on the Pork Belly was that the spice level, jalapenos and the vegetables were just so fresh. He also got the Earl Grey Iced Tea and is literally so till savoring it. We also got the black beans on the side for protein (for me) and the truffle fries and they were amazing. I wish I could give it 6 stars. This place is pretty good, but they do have some short comings. I've had undercooked fries in my meal and they drown the saltado in onions, but that stuff happens... My main problem is the attitude you get from some of the staff. Usually they're decent for a bunch of kids, but they need to tighten it up. In one instance we asked a "server" for a condiment and she rudely replied "We don't have that" while walking away. No "let me check" or "would you like me to get you anything else instead" like you would normally expect. I then asked another "server" for the same thing and sure enough, they had it. In another instance I requested extra tomato on my saltado, as they usually give you a pound of onion with 1 or 2 slices of tomato if you don't ask specifically. The cook replied, "I don't have time to get extra tomatoes for you, I'm too busy." This guy is cooking fast food and says he's too busy to give me extra tomato on my $20 bowl... It's like Hey there big shot, you ain't no Master Chef, now get back there and make it how I told you to. If I were the owner I would have fired him on the spot. read more

Great place for vegans and omnivores alike! Food was great but the environment was very noisey and there is little to no seating. We went during lunch hour on a Thursday and had a long wait and no place to sit by the time we got our food. The ice tea (Blueberry Jasmine) was also nothing to write home about. Very simple and not very tasty. The ipad menu system doesn't make for easy customization of the meals so if you want anything extra or substituted you have to ask in peraon. This is a very clean place and it is obvious they care about the food they are preparing. There is one none gender restroom outside. You need to ask for the code.
