I love this place!!! Exhausted from all the breakfast joints with oversized portions that are loaded with grease and just taste sub par, I was in the mood for something delicious and just the right size. And after a day of LA County Fair festivities, gluttony, and the most massive hangover, this looked like the perfect place when my husband Yelped a good place to get a late breakfast. I used to be a resident of San Dimas, but moved out of the city before this place opened, so was so happy to get to try it. It's located in one of the newer areas, but still had that good old classic San Dimas feel with a modern twist. The menu is displayed on the wall and there's an abundance of choices. I ordered the Wake Up #1 with prosciutto and substituted for egg whites. It was DELICIOUS!!! The boar's head meat was tasty, cheese was perfectly melted and I loved that they panini pressed the croissant to give a perfect crispy outside while still preserving the fluffy inside. The ratio of inside to bread was perfection!! When I picked it up one of the sliced in half sides I even said out loud, " look how beautiful my egg whites look!" It was also served with an adorable little side of strawberries and blueberries. The only thing that would've made it better was if they had breakfast potatoes on the menu. What can I say... I need breakfast potatoes in my life!! Because I was a little sicky I only ate half. I zapped the other half in the toaster oven after I felt better, and it was still delicious. It takes a handful of minutes for the food to arrive but it's not big deal because everything is cooked to order and FRESH as can be. We were in no rush considering the quant and cozy outside seating area. There's also indoor seating as well. The owner stopped at the table to chat a little bit with us. He is such a genuinely nice guy and you can tell him and his employees take great care and pride in what they do. Service was definitely that of a fine dining restaurant. We also loved the music playing I even called them later to ask what Pandora station they use. They said people ask everyday and they use French Cooking and Billie Holiday! Rail Side Cafe will definitely be on my list of my go to breakfast places. In fact, I think I'm going to have to try a lunch item next time!!! read more

I found this gem on Yelp. I was looking for breakfast. I love the menu here. A variety of healthy options to choose from. They serve my favorite coffee Lavazza too I ordered the Wake Up #2 with egg whites spinach and mozzarella. It was delicious! Limited seating inside. The outdoor patio offers seating. Very cute rail side cafe with an outside patio. Lovely train-themed decor. I can recommend the Panini 3-cheese, the Rail Caprese and strawberry smoothie. Everything is fresh made so it may take a little longer. (This is thankfully no fat food) Staff is very friendly and helpful. read more

How does this place have such a high rating. The waffle was no better than a frozen waffle. Definitely not made with a waffle iron, lame. My wife's scrambled eggs had large pieces of white in them. Not only are the food and drinks delicious but the customer service is fantastic. My husband, our daughter, and I were enjoying our meal outside when our daughter randomly got stung by a bee. It was her first sting and a nice woman came over to check on us. It turns out that she was one of the owners and she and her son went out of their way to check that she didn't have an allergic reaction, got our baby some ice for the swelling, and even brought her a cookie to cheer her up. It is a cute setting outside. You need to enter into the front of the restaurant which is very small inside to order up at the counter. If many people are inside, it feels uncomfortable. The soda is not from a fountain machine so no refills they just give you a can. I had a turkey panini and it was good and for some reason I couldn't finish it. And I usually finish my plate. Sister loved the gravy plate that she ordered she said it was very delicious. I did not try it. I ordered a scone not hard like traditional scone cookie more soft like a muffin but so so good. Pricing was expensive. Glad I experienced it but no need to go again now that I just wanted to experience it. read more

This cafe is in a great location on San Dimas Ave. They have breakfast and lunch and we opted for lunch panini's. My turkey panini was seriously one of the best sandwiches I've had. The sides are interesting and I opted for English cucumber slices. I had peach iced tea which was delivered to our table in a huge pottery mug. I love brewed tea so this was great. There are decent-sized pepper trees giving a nice filtered shady area for outside dining. There are tables with umbrellas as well. We lingered longer than we should have because everyone was so nice and the cafe so charming. This is definitely one of my new favorite places! Check it out! read more

The Rail Side Cafe is the perfect little neighborhood coffee shop! The outside seating is shaded and comfortable, kid and dog friendly. I love the Chai Tea Latte hot or iced blended. I went to this little cafe on a whim because I was the area and let Yelp persuade me to try the Rail Side Cafe. This place has a really cool and relaxing vibe about it with art deco on the walls, jazz playing in the background, and train memorabilia everywhere. While their menu is limited because of the space that is available to them, they use only quality products for their items. For their meats they use boars head, for their coffee Lavazza, and the pastries came from a local bakery. Everything that I had was delicious. What I enjoyed was one of their massive croissants with a side of fresh strawberries. The croissant was warmed using the Panini press that they have causing the buttery flavor of the pastry to be really present. I had their green jasmine tea and it is the absolute perfect balance of floral notes with the snap of green tea. I honestly enjoyed my time and my items from this cafe. I also enjoyed chatting with Jordan while I was there. I know he will do fantastic work with his cafe in the community. I would highly recommend trying this little cafe if you get the chance. It was the winds of chance that brought me here and I am super glad that they did. If you live in the area definitely check out their Canvas and Coffee events because they look super fun! read more

Started out our rainy day sleeping in and we needed some food. Something warm and good. Went on Yelp and found this place. The menu looked good and it looked like it would satisfy my picky 12 year old. Walked into this small, but cozy cafe and ordered a USA melt, turkey panini, loaded waffles, and an XL hot chocolate. We waited patiently for our food and I looked up and saw some Emmy's on a shelf. I'm a TV fanatic, so to see a real like Emmy was so cool. Our food came out and everything was perfect. My bread was perfectly grilled, the roast beef and cheese was perfect and the pesto was an excellent flavor. We are definitely coming back to try other things on the menu. What a great place to eat while enjoying the outdoors. We hiked it down from Via Verde area just to get to this place...and it was all worth it! But.... the food is bad. Very bland, without flavor. I choked it down reminding myself that "it's good for me". But there's no reason why healthy plates should have to be tasteless. I had a bowl with egg whites, spinach, sausage, red bell peppers, and I think there were tiny tomatoes as well. All the ingredients combined in my bowl to create a bland and rubbery breakfast. I attended Cal Poly Pomona and when I lived nearby the campus, Rail Side Cafe was the perfect morning hangout! Reasonably priced, I would order a London Bagel and a mocha latte to start my morning/brunch either before class or after. Their small outdoor setup was convenient since it's off a busy street (San Dimas Ave.) and the overhanging tree allowed shade for most of the space.
