Place is clean and inviting, a bit small but honestly seems like food is fast. As far as the food goes we ordered a katsu donburi and 2 chirashi donburi, the ordering "menu" had options for changes and choices, but I just stuck with a basic orders. We grabbed a table and the girl brought out our drinks, then the katsu came out and the girl apologized for the delay with the chirashi bowls. Few minutes later our chirashi bowls came out and the girl apologize for the delay. Awesome awareness on their part!! As for the food, my boy enjoyed the katsu bowl, as for the chirashi bowls, the fish was at a good cool temperature and the rice was perfectly warm - something that real sushi restaurants understand. For me and my chirashi bowl I don't really care for sushi rice, I prefer plain rice for my donburi, an option I will look for next time we visit - and we will definitely make it a regular stop when we visit Seattle. The katsu is crispy and crunchy, and the chicken itself retained a lot of its juiciness. Katsu sauce on the side is honestly optional since the meat itself is already salty enough. This place does share extremely limited parking with Cakes of Paradise next door, so get here early or be prepared to drive around the area to find some. I'm a Seattle native too yet I tried here for their first time along with two other friends - who also haven't had here - on a Saturday noon for lunch. It's peak lunch hour so all dine-in seating was nearly taken, and there was a small line to get food too. It's a very casual environment here and you can hear and see the kitchen behind the counter preparing all the food. Staff behind the counter was so kind and my friends and I got to chat with one of them a little bit while placing our orders. I got their chicken and gyoza combo, and asked for the sauce to be on top of my meat. Portions are generous for everything here, including the chicken, rice and even the gyoza. There's a ton of sauce both on the chicken and the salad, though I didn't mind that. Chicken was tender, piping hot and relatively sweet with the sauce, but that's where the rice comes in to balance the taste. Gyozas are standard but came really hot with some sauce on the side. Seating is a little sticky, and you do need to bus your own table. But we all came out full and pretty satisfied with what we had. I'm definitely coming back here for more of their stuff!

Teriyaki is to Seattle what Pizza (or halal carts) are to NYC, Burritos and KBBQ are to Los Angeles, Italian Beef Sandwiches are to Chicago and so on and so on, If you are not from or spent any time in Seattle and have had something called teriyaki, you had only a pale imitation as one must come here to experience the real authentic and transcendently delicious thing. If I had a gun to my head, and was forced to pick a favorite of the two teriyaki shops I tried, I would have to give a very slight edge to this spot, over the nearby and also very excellent, (and previously reviewed) Okinawa Teriyaki. In all fairness to Okinawa it most be noted that I ordered differently here than there. This time around, other than the standard regular chicken teriyaki/beef teriyaki combo I opted for the spicy chicken option, alongside the beef teriyaki and side of gyoza that I got the previous time. So not surprisingly the spicy chicken had bolder flavors and more of a kick than Okinawa's regular chicken, though still well within the realms of tolerability to all but the most spice-averse. I would say however that the beef was also significantly more flavor packed and perhaps of a slightly higher quality than Okinawa's, and here was served more finely sliced, in a manner that produced slightly more tender melt in our mouth beef than the stringier beef at Okinawa. The chicken was also perfectly juicy on the inside and crispy smokey, caramelized and charred on the outside. This was across the board a much saucier affair however, as both proteins had clearly been treated with a very healthy second saucing post grilling. The Gyozas were a bit larger than Okinawa's here, but just as deftly fried with an addictive crunchiness and no sogginess. One small caveat here I would note was that they give an excessively large side order of rice here, so much so that I still had rices leftover even AFTER using it so soak up the significant excess amount of sauce from the meats. This would easily have been remedied if I had taken the lovely ladies offer of an extra cuplet of sauce, which I would have never thought necessary when first glancing at that super saucy combo. While my maiden teriyaki experience with Okinawa was, like surely many others a product of following the advice of the now legendary listings of Seattle Teriyaki parlors by the great local food expert J. Kenji López-Alt. my experience here was the happy byproduct of relative chance, aided by a quick yelp cross reference. I was lucky enough to stumble upon this place and grab a crucially quick to-go combo on my way to the central train station to take the Amtrak down to Portland Oregon, the day after the election. The yelp reviews looked legit enough for me to take the chance on the clean, super bright spot with decidedly much warmer service than Okinawa, and devour the heaping platter of saucy, flavorful teriyaki and popping fresh gyoza while enjoying another lovely scenic trek down the rails of the Pacific Northwest and for a few moments anyway convince myself all was well in my beautiful country, and try to block out the encroaching darkness on the horizon, if only for a few minutes.
