Went there for the 1st time yesterday. Did not know what to expect as I did not look at any reviews but it is close to where I live. The menu is pretty limited but I guess it is a "specialty restaurant.". I was very surprised. The chicken is very crispy on the outside and very tender and juicy on the inside. The spices were well balanced and the Rambo sauce was similar to a Chick filet/chipotle sauce combination. Very tasty. The fries were well seasoned, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside but a tad salty. Overall had a delightful dinner. Would rate it a 4.25 stars. read more

We heard all the buzz on Rambo's Hot Chicken and we had to give them a try. I came in for takeout and it wasn't busy but it took 20 minutes after I ordered to get my food. I asked about the spicy levels and actually went with mild for the #1 combo and I got the #2 combo for my wife with no heat. I ordered at 5:50 and they were out of Mac N Cheese, which I thought they only offer 2 sides and how could they be out. I brought the food home and the food wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. The spicy level for me was good, but my wife said that hers had no flavor. I tried a piece of hers and it didn't taste like the do any seasoning of the tenders until they apply whatever spice level spice they add. We used to eat another hot chicken place in a neighboring city and stumbled upon Rambos here in our own town. The chicken is nice and crispy and has excellent flavor! Came by for opening day. Very excited that a hot chicken place had opened in Simi Valley. Now, I've tried many places from Dave's to Jaybirds and Tenessees famous Hattie B. This place had a lot to live up in my eyes but for first timers, it has to be good enough to warrant the return. In any case the line is what it'd expect for an opening day. Taking that out of the equation I order a hot and rambo's killer flare. Food was served hot and everything came out very colorful with nice golden brown fries and chicken that wasn't overly cooked or dry. Their hottest spice was just the right amount of kick. After being told I'd have to sign a waiver (which wasn't presented to me) I had to believe it'd be hotter than anything the neighborhoods Buffalo Wild Wings would offer (ie Blazing). To my surprise, it was enough to just be slightly uncomfortable but tasted great. What's the point of eating hot chicken if the spice has no flavor? Rambo's was not that. Spice gave the tenders some nice flavor to complement the naked wing. Their sauce was also very good. The sandwich comes with a bit of slaw that perhaps helped with the spice level but alone, I could see myself ordering it as a side. Fries were crispy and well seasoned. The only part they got wrong was the lack of sliced bread that was supposed to be included. Will I be coming back again? You bet I will. PRICEY! BAD SERVICE! NOT WORTH IT! The food is good, but not worth it as you can get the same or even better at other places. The service SUCKS!! They take forever to make your food and there is barely any workers visibly there as they all hide in the back. I have tried this place multiple times over and over and it still take about 30-40 minutes to get your food. I ordered online once and knowing they take a while, I left my house 15 minutes after ordering and I arrived 5 minutes later and still waited another 20 minutes for my food to be ready. Why promote that food is ready in 15-20 minutes when it takes 40 minutes to get your food!! They don't even care or check up on you when you have been waiting forever for your food. Even asking them how much longer is a waste of time because they don't even know. The ambience is nice and again their food isn't bad, just don't order here if you're hungry and need food right away because it will take A WHILE to get it. Even when you walk in and they are slow, it still take 40 minutes to get your food. Fix the service and maybe it will be worth it but for how pricey the food is compared to other hot chicken places and how the bad the service is, don't even bother going. read more

Went here last night excited to see Simi finally having its own chicken spot. The guy behind the counter said it was better than Dave's which I doubted but holy hell is this GOOD. The chicken was so juicy (it felt like eating Dave's in 2018 before they franchised and got eh), but not breaded to the point where in felt like I was eating a sandwich within my sandwich. The coleslaw wasn't too wet, and the hot level of spice was actually spicy (which is personal preference I know but I loved it). The house sauce was good, honestly pretty standard and I usually just make my own sauce at home so no complaints. The chicken was not that crispy, but that actually worked very well with the sandwich in terms of how rich the meat was. The fries were very crispy, but buttery soft on the inside. Overall, when you go to a fried chicken place nowadays you know almost exactly what you're getting. What matters is how everything plays together (at least to me) and Rambo's has an amazing flavor combo. It's nice enough that we get a place in Simi, but the fact that it's also stellar is literally so rare I'd call this place a unicorn. Go try it out!! read more

Went to Rambo's for the first time and was pleasantly surprised! The atmosphere inside was clean with a cool urban themed decor. They had trendy music playing on their sound system, which added a fun vibe. The service was quick and informative. The person taking our order answered all questions that we had about the menu, took our order, and handed us our drinks. We waited inside for a few minutes while they made the food. We are outside on the benches (also clean!) and had a pleasant food experience. I had Combo #2 which had well seasoned, crispy, hot fries, 2 chicken tender (medium spice level) which were cooked fresh, hot, and nicely seasoned. The tenders weren't overly oily or overcooked. The sauce was a nice zesty creamy sauce, which was well balanced! It also came with a texas toast, which was also cooked nicely! My husband had a chicken sandwich which he described as "good." which is a great compliment from him haha. The chicken sandwich had coleslaw, chicken tenders, and cheese. The combo included fries and texas toast as well. He got an extra sauce, since it only comes with one. We finished every bite! Wish this place had more and more customers because we had a great time and will be back again! Placed my order online estimate was ready in 15-35 min. When they finally confirmed again estimate was 25-35 min. I was already on my way there but waited a while to give them time to get my order ready. I walked in, the place was empty and I could see a bag sitting there that looked like it was probably my order. It was still five minutes untill the estimated completion time. There was a teenager and they were just sitting there on their phone texting and did not look up for five minutes. I tried to make noise, but there's no bell on the door and the teenager didn't look up. Finally someone from the back came out and let the teenager know that I was there and then they handed me the bag that I was correct had my food in it. They still hadn't updated my order status online to show that it was ready for pick up. I think I have been sitting there for a while because the french fries were cold. The food was just OK. The fries were over seasoned and they give you a very tiny container of sauce for quite big pieces of chicken. I got the non-spicy. It was just OK. I've been to many other chicken places and this one is really just average, nothing special. read more

TLDR: Got my order wrong twice, horrible wait time, terrible atmosphere for eating at the location. I ordered online and upon arriving I was informed my order was made incorrectly and had to be remade. Mistakes happen and I patiently waited another 20 mins for my food. The staff was nice to start, but after I asked about my order after about 15 mins they quickly changed their attitude to "very annoyed" and told me it was being made as quickly as possible. Once my order was ready the kid behind the counter read my order back to me and it looked correct at a quick glance and I left. In hindsight I should have opened every container to confirm all the items were present. Unfortunately, I believe they purposefully left out items that were ordered and also changed the spice level of the chicken. The chicken I ordered mild was so spicy it wasn't edible and the medium sandwiches purchased had zero flavor or spice. There a better places to get a chicken sandwich in Simi Valley and you don't have to listen to obnoxious music or deal with retaliatory kids making your expensive food. The food here is so good but I just can't get over how slow the service is. I've had Rambo's multiple times and almost every single time they have delayed my order a ridiculous amount. One time I even called in advance for a to go order and when I arrived they still made me wait 25-30 minutes after it was supposed to be ready. The music inside is also so loud that you can't hear anyone at the table and if you bring kids with you it drives them crazy. The food is seriously delicious and I'm so happy we have halal hot chicken in simi. The chicken is juicy and great quality, flavors are on point, the buttered toast is delish.
