You know that ramen you have in the pantry that is "chicken flavored" but doesn't have any chicken in it? The one with the silver packet of MSG? The one that you buy if your paycheck doesn't hit until Monday but it's Saturday? This isn't that one. That stuff you got is a necessary evil; this stuff is a luxurious treat. That stuff is named for this stuff, as ramen style noodles are the staple here. At Ramen Hakata you'll get these noodles two ways: Wavy style, like the ones you see in the package at the store or straight ones. There's a little bit of a texture difference, but not a huge one. I prefer the straight ones as I think they are a bit more toothsome. Regular ramen bowls here come with mushrooms, sprouts, other veggies and the most perfect soft boiled egg. I'm not an egg person...except for this one. It's so freaking good. The broths here range from regular pork bone broth to spicy miso and you can't go wrong as they are all made in house, steeped to get full flavor. But let me tell you about the real star here: The spicy onigirl will make you testify. If you are going "what the hell is that" it's cool. Mama's here. It's chashu (pork belly) rice, spices and peppers minced up and then formed into a rice mold. It's amazing and extremely limited because it's made fresh. Get it. Get two and bring me one. Service is excellent and they won't tag on you if you ask questions. That's my job. Sodas are canned so beware if you are a big drinker. read more

I have been to Ramen Hakata in Carrollton once years ago. My review for that would have been 2 stars, it was because the tastes. It didn't meet my expectation at all. I am from Fukuoka prefecture, which is Hakata tonkotsu ramen was born. As everyone can imagine, local people seek authentic flavor and so do I. I was looking for the ramen with rich flavor in the broth, but not too rich. I found several other ramen restaurants in DFW and I am still visiting them little by little. This visit is also one of them. It was a good surprise. I don't mind if it is take out or dine in. Their ramen's base flavor was surprisingly better than before. Why am I just now finding out about this new location??? I have not been paying attention, apparently. We have been driving to the location in Addison to get their ramen and it is totally worth it. NOW, there is another location that is even closer!! Ramen Hakata has not disappointed since it opened up in Addison a few years ago. They have the best noodles, in my opinion. Apparently, their pork is braised. From the internet: "Braised meats are often seared first in oil or butter. Then, aromatics, spices, vegetables and some cooking liquid -- wine, broth, water -- are often added. The pot can either stay on the stovetop or go into the oven." Came to this place for an early lunch at 11:30. By noon it was packed! We tried a few different appetizers, including the cucumbers, fried shrimp and the pot stickers. All were super quick to come out and really good. The cucumbers were probably our favorite as they were soaked in a delicious asian sauce. The bowl I tried was the spicy Hakata miso bowl. It was mostly noodles I have to say. Kind of expected a little more vegetables mixed in but no big deal. Overall was a good portion of food and everything was delicious. With the spicy you can get the spicy part on the side which Id recommend if you're not sure how much kick you want. Good comfort food, waitress suggested the kimchi pork ramen, I was not disappointed, the pork was very tender. It had a lot of cabbage which is what Japanese kimchi has. I got it spicy just because the more spicy the better, but the one without spice is very flavorful, so don't feel obligated. I also got white rice on the side which made a very good companion of the ramen. The waitress are attentive if you need anything and will offer refills. This place was pretty unique. I got something like a deconstructed ramen - broth in one bowl, pork chasu in another, and noodles in another. I'm not a fan of a lot of noodles - I'm mostly there for the broth and variations of protein and veggies so this was a good option for me. I think the place can be a little cleaner. It wasn't filthy but there were straw and chopstick wrappers laying around. The waiters are very quick in taking your order and delivering your order. They did forget our extra pork chasu, but they were quick to bring it to us after we asked about it. Pro Tip: If it's just you or you and one other person, you can head to the bar area and self seat versus waiting for an actual table. It can get crowded so plan ahead! read more

I love this ramen spot, and I'm so glad they opened a location in Allen! I had never really had true ramen before, most of my ramen experience was from a packet. After we tried a spot in Dallas I was craving ramen daily, but didn't want to drive out to Dallas. I tried a few place in Plano that did not meet my expectations and then finally found this place! The ramen here, not matter which one you get, is delicious. The tonkatsu is my favorite, and what a recommend to everyone, especially if you're new to ramen. The broth is so meaty and delicious, unlike anything else. The noodles are always cooked perfect, not too soft or mushy. The miso ramen is also great, but once you e had tonkatsu, it's hard to try anything different! The spicy tonkatsu is very spicy! To beware there. I've also had the udon, which isn't always my favorite, but there's is delicious, and the noodles are so tasty. The space is a small and quaint and very well kept. I love their wood decor, it adds a lot to the experience. If you're staying for dessert try the strawberry mochi! The chocolate one is okay, but strawberry is the bomb! I highly recommend checking this place out if you like delicious ramen! They have multiple locations in the metroplex so you might have one near you if this one is too far. read more

Called 2 days prior to make a reservation for my daughters 16th bday. Had a party of 12 plus a baby. They said it wouldn't be a problem. We get there and brought a little cake and had other little items like a sealed bottle of cc lemon drink. They said we couldn't bring it in. They knew it was my daughter's bday. They could have told when I made the reservation that we couldn't bring any outside food in. So they offered to hold it for us in the fridge until we left. 2 of our guest like their yakisoba dish but 9 others thought the food was less than average. While sitting and looking at the menu, the waiter was so pushy in trying to get us to put our order in for appetizers. And then again when ordering entrees. Jeez. When we're ready, we'll call you over to order! Don't just stand over us and ask every few mins. When the food came, I didn't even get to take a bit and he asked how's the food. I said I don't know you didn't let me try it yet. They make you feel so uncomfortable. Towards then we're just chatting amongst us all and they tell me to move my kids to the other side of the table because they're blocking their path to other tables. They still had plenty of room to walk by or just take 5 extra steps around to the side they told me to move too. Seriously. And while we're stilling finishing up and chatting they stand about 5-7 feet away from our table staring at us like are you finished yet.
