Honestly the worst of all the LA city courses. It's in terrible condition. The entire facility is ancient and horrible and yet it's slammed and more expensive than other, nicer courses. The course layout is great as there are a variety of challenging holes with areas that require more precise drives. However, management has really let this historic golf course go to *)&*&. The clubhouse has been in repair for over 5 years now with no end in sight. They have a small bar/snack shack using a hallway. The course fairways, greens, bunkers are all in poor shape. This is the busiest course in the la public course system, so where is the money going? The range itself must be bringing in significant income. Whoever is running the course needs to be fired. Sorry but this course used to host some big city tournaments. Now it can't even host a junior high event. I love this course, but new management needs to come in and fix this disaster. Decent place to to hit some balls on the driving range. My son and I also tried out the par 3 course. Surprisingly easy to park even when crowded. They charge $15 for a large bucket. The covered lower hitting bays were all full and two-deep with people waiting. The balls were in decent shape. They don't allow you to hit woods off the second deck but it's not as crowded. LA raising their prices to hit balls on worn out driving pads, no refreshments, five year reconstruction project for restaurant and meeting facility that should be no longer than two at most. My review is specifically for the driving range. Extra star for existing. There is no other driving range on the westside, so gave it an extra star. Balls are relatively cheap and easy. However, they've been "remodeling" for years and closed off the entire main side, leaving only a narrow passage way for everyone to enter/exit out of. There one vending machine has been out of order or simply turned off for who knows how long. No water fountains. Maybe they're trying to drive traffic to the bar? They charge for tap water from the faucet. If you're thirsty at night when the bar is closed, good luck. read more

Seems like tee times are super impacted so you have to get on it to be able to actually play 9/18 holes. Thata too advanced for me so gonna just talk about the driving range. The area is just super chill. Walk in, find a spot, buy some balls and away you go. Didn't see any "loaner" clubs for you to use. Maybe I missed it but be ready to bring your own. Do not attend without reservation. Even with reservation, do not expect to play a 9-hole round with typical timing (about 1hr). There are many beginner players who don't understand golf rules or etiquette, e.g. stealing your ball after you tee off and not yelling fore before their ball slices past your head. Further, groups are sent out in 5's and 6's, which further backs up the course. It also doesn't help that beginner players/groups are being coached by non-professionals who encourage their foul, unsportsmanlike behavior. read more

Tons of people at par3 on a Saturday. Get ready to wait a while for your turn. Some parts of the course was gloomy and had dead grass and bald spots. Overall it was ok for the size of the par3. There were some randoms that started kicking 4 soccer balls across the par3 course and I was so confused. I thought that was gonna ruin the day but they were probably drunk and didn't care that it was a golf course. Probably thought it was a regular park. Overall you could be finished in an hour except it's packed so make that 2 hours at least. read more

it's a nice place, good range and good courses (both 18 and 9). the range has relatively average balls, none too chewed up. you hit downhill on artificial turf from turf mats (no hitting from grass). the only real downside is it can get quite busy and you may have to wait a bit to find a stall. the 18 hole is surprisingly nice. it's wide and open and not at all what i expected for being in the middle of la. read more

CROWDED- multiple times I've went to book on their app and all the t times are gone by 6:01 and that's with a player card. The driving range is always packed and they keep raising prices on the range balls. I'm sure the staff who are great aren't getting raises... The course is in ok shape but if you can get a t time it's at least a 5hr round. Short game area's a joke but you can't use it anyways because it's packed. You're way better off driving an hour to a good course than playing here. read more

I come here in the afternoon for the driving range and it's a pretty well groomed, straight forward place. If you're coming in the afternoon or on a weekend, I'd be prepared to wait a while for a spot. But people are usually respectful and you can find someone who will let you slip in when they're done hitting. I appreciate how COVID conscious the staff and players are. Everyone is good about wearing their masks and in general good about keeping the noise to a minimum. The pros are really nice and are good about letting people use the space in between their lessons. There aren't that many experienced people who practice there, so you get a lot of newbies standing in practicers line of sight, talking on the phone, or not following full etiquette. But it's not so bad that it's unbearably frustrating for someone with experience. I haven't tried the course itself, but I'll write an update once I do. read more

I've grown up going to Rancho Park for 25 years. It's sad to see how LA Parks and Recs has allowed this facility with a prime location in LA to fall apart. In particular, the range balls are a disgrace. You're better off hitting a wet dish sponge in your backyard to work on your game. The safety nets at the range are falling apart, the mats are worn out, the lights are nearly all burnt out, there's constantly a wait for a stall at the range, tee times are impossible to book and even with this business the prices continue to climb for tee times and range balls. The staff is friendly but it's sad to see LA Parks and Recs to let this once-gem of a facility fall apart. Seems like actual golfers need to offer insight as to where funds should be applied to restore this once great facility. The management prides themselves on the history of hosting PGA events and golfing greats but that was years ago. I hope they don't think the PGA would recognize this facility as much more than a public park let alone a golfing facility. read more

This review is specifically for the staff. Course is okay. But my god the staff here must hate their job with a passion. For anyone that comes in contact with a man named Stephen in the hut please beware... he has no idea how to send people off the waitlist. Singles were waiting over 3 hours to get on when there were clearly single spots available in groups going off the first tee. It's such a simple job to make sure the waitlist keeps moving, but for some people it must not be so simple. If management reads this please don't let starters ignore the waitlist while sending groups of 3 out or you're going to lose a lot of business to another course. Stephen, if you read this, know that it will get better and I'm sorry you're stuck in that hut taking out your anger on the waitlist. read more

First time playing on an actual course, my friend recommended that I start with a par 3 course. I was a bit intimidated at first but this course was not too bad. There are 9 holes and it ranged anywhere from 80 to 150 (?) yards. We got here around noon and there weren't too many people so I didn't feel the pressure to rush my game. I paid 7 bucks for a game ( a dollar more for a cart)! I believe on weekends it's a dollar or two more. The only downside is you are right on Pico so the view is not great but it's convenient. Parking is plentiful also. read more

Holy snap! WTF happened to Rancho Park...18? I use to play this "SENIOR LA OPEN PGA" course back in HS in the 90s and it was in great shape for the tournament play.... I recently renewed my LA City Golf reservation card and finally got a decent Saturday morning reservation (1130ish) on the RP 18. 1130am tee time turned into a 1210pm tee off. SUCKA! Even with only 4-somes allowed, this place was a zoo and slow as heck. I think this round was way slower than GP Wilson or Knollwood with the 5-somes! BLAH: - Tee boxes suck and were on a slanted, sloped, etc. - Slow 6 hour round - 1-2 groups waiting on every tee box - Refreshment stand on the 14th hole? WTF! I forgot the hot dog stop wasn't after the turn at the 9th-10th hole. Starved. -1970s build restrooms? Geez!!! - Dumpy driving range. Make sure you dodge the range balls on the 9th and 18th hole if you hit it near the fence cause those range balls fly straight over those low fences. DUMB DESIGN, raise the fences!!!! Good luck finding your Titleist Pro V1. -Did I mention the slow play? - Fairways/greens sucked (make sure you fix your own and fix another ball mark when you get on the green please). Even though I didn't score too bad, the course is in terrible shape. LA City...please put some $$$ back into Rancho Park 18. What a joke the course has become. Played this course for 10+ years. I'm not sure if it's getting better or worse. The Good. Great Layout and championship quality history. Close to LA (westside) uh..., uh..., uh? o yeah the Men's Club makes it easy to get on the course through monthly tournaments. They have a women's and senior club too. Greens are usually very well kept for such a busy course. The Bad. The WORST driving range you will ever see in CA. A dusty dirt patch with no (few) targets and a low fence allowing balls to scatter over the surrounding course. Time 5-6 hours easy to play here, Yikes. No Marshalls. The grass in June was having some bare spot trouble I hadn't seen before and usually the course is very well maintained. Price. $45 for this place is almost too much then another $20 for a cart if you are riding make this a poor value. No more Pro Shop. The City mismanagement. read more
